Spell burst is a system in place in certain higher-level hunting areas such as Temple Wyneb and Old Ta'Faendryl that, when a character enters the area with an excessive amount of unknown spells cast upon herself will react violently with the inherant magic in the area, resulting in damage or death; the severity being dependant upon the number of unknown spells on the character.
The spell burst effect can be relieved, somewhat, by training in Arcane Symbols and Magic Item Use. The number of spell levels a character can wear is approximately equal to the number of ranks possessed in each skill, combined, and divided by three. For example, if a character has 24 ranks of Arcane Symbols and 3 ranks of Magic Item Use (for a total of 27 ranks) the character can wear 9 levels of spells, which could be 509, or a combination of spells to total 9 levels, such as 101, 102, and 406. Spells known by the character do not count against him or her when related to spell burst, so a rogue that has 6 ranks in Spell Research: Minor Elemental and 27 ranks of MIU+AS can have 509, 401, and 406 without penalty. The formula listed is not exact, but GM's have stated that it is close to be very viable in most cases.
