Description

Spirit Barrier It provides a base bonus of +20 to physical, ranged and bolt defensive strength and unarmed defense factor at the cost of -20 to physical attack strength. Physical attacks moving through the air wall (in or out) suffer -20 to Attack Strength and -20 to Unarmed Attack Factor.

For each rank of Minor Spiritual Base spells known:

  • the duration of the spell is extended by 60 seconds from its base 1200 second duration
  • the DS bonus is increased by +1 DS/UDF (reducing AS/UAF by -1) for every 2 ranks known over 102.

The mana cost also increases by +1 for every 6 Minor Circle ranks known over 102.

This spell is NOT selfcast only, but must pass a warding check when cast upon others, for a duration determined by the warding margin.

The DS bonus is capped at the caster's level.

Tactical Considerations

Bolt spells do not receive any attack penalty while Spirit Barrier is active, so this is a very useful defensive spell for casters of bolt spells or users of wands containing bolt spells.

Spirit Barrier can be cast on others subject to a warding roll to force the AS penalty on the target (or provide the DS bonus for an Adventurer's Guild escort task), with duration determined by the warding margin. If casting on a friendly target, make sure to check TARGET afterwards and TARGET CLEAR if necessary.
