Cobbling material

Cobbling materials are used in the cobbling system to create cobbled footwear. Cobbling materials come in two main varieties: uppers and soles. Uppers are required to make any sort of cobbled footwear while soles are optional. Some cobbling materials only be used to make uppers for certain types of footwear, such as only clogs, slippers, etc. Any pattern restrictions on the cobbling material are noted in its LOOK/SHOW. For full information on the cobbling system, see the main cobbling article. UpperUppers have a standard LOOK/SHOW description that indicates that they are cobbling uppers. In addition, uppers that are restricted to certain types of cobbled footwear include an extra sentence noting that restriction. The walnut has been carefully prepared to be used for creating uppers for quality footwear. Close examination shows pattern marks on the gilded walnut as the uppers for a pair of chopines.
You analyze the gilded walnut and sense that the creator has provided the following information: A block of gilded walnut is used for the cobbling artisan skill. It is considered a cobbling upper. You get no sense of whether or not the walnut may be further lightened. SoleCobbling soles are an optional material when making cobbled footwear. They are typically just a piece of leather and are readily available at the local cobbling supply shop. As with uppers, they have a standard LOOK/SHOW description that indicates that they are cobbling soles. Note: This item cannot be used as alteration fodder. The leather has been carefully prepared to be used for creating soles for quality footwear.
You analyze the tanned leather and sense that the creator has provided the following information: Some heavy tanned leather is used for the cobbling artisan skill. It is considered a cobbling sole. You get no sense of whether or not the leather may be further lightened. Additional InformationIn addition to purchasing cobbling materials at cobbling supply shops, cobbling uppers are frequently sold at festivals and pay events. They can also be made via several methods. Tanning MaterialsCobbling materials can be made via a tanning process, by bringing a skinned animal pelt to the town's tanner. In Wehnimer's Landing, Kharam Dzu, and River's Rest, the tanner is located in the furrier's shop. In Cysaegir, you will find the tanner downstairs from the storage room in the guildhall. In Mist Harbor and Ta'Vaalor, the tanner is also in the cobbling warehouse. In Kraken's Fall, the tanner is in the Tanner's Corridor of the Converted Weather Station that serves as a cobbling warehouse. If you GIVE your pelt to the tanner, she will assess its suitability and ask you some questions about how you want the pelt tanned. The lowest quality tanning process is cheapest and quickest, but will markedly detract from the quality of the finished cobbled goods. The three curing processes are:
The quality of the tanned leather depends on the quality of the pelt. When trying to produce best-quality shoes, seek out skilled skinners who can provide magnificent pelts. Dying UppersCobbling uppers can be dyed directly via alchemy dye. Dyes from the Dyer's tent also can be used to dye uppers but they must first be converted to the alchemy dye script by bringing the vial to the clerk and using ORDER BOTTLE. These can also be used with alchemy dye additives. Cobbling dyes can also be used as part of the cobbling process. Crafting UppersA Cobbling Upper Maker Box can be used to craft cobbling uppers from a fabric or leather item. It is also capable of being customized with three upper style options in addition to the default twenty options available with it, each for cloth and leather uppers. A Leatherworking Tool can be used to modify an existing leather cobbling upper by applying a design to it. A single Leatherworking Tool is capable of being customized with three leather upper designs in addition to the default twenty options available with it. A Silk Screen Press is the cloth counterpart to the Leatherworking Tool. It can also be customized with three fabric upper designs in addition to the default twenty options available with it.
