Beginnings

The story of Rovvigen's life doesn't start with his birth, but rather his finding; the finding of Rovvigen. As the story goes, in Imaerasta in the year 5084, an elven water mage by the name of Caeliss rode forth from his tower in Wehnimer’s Landing with his dutiful page Mikalmas. Caeliss was on the trail of an ancient tome of ice spells and had recently seen clues indicating they might be found in the library of a rich merchant in Icemule. Caeliss and Mikalmas set forth on a bright winter’s day, comfortably shielded by warm furs and confident in their magics; fearing little by way of beast or man.

The journey was largely uneventful until they neared White Ice Lake when the smell of smoke alerted them to a nearby camp.

Considering the length of travel ahead, the pair decided to break for a rest, and left the trail in an effort to hail the nearby camp and perhaps gain permission to sit and rest, and to share in a hot meal.

However, their calls were met with silence and the smell of smoke continued to intensify, when Caeliss quickly suspected something amiss. Riding forth toward the camp, he readied a defensive spell and warned Mikalmas to be on guard. But as they neared and the camp was revealed, it was soon evident that they were past the point of risk, for the camp had been razed and no soul stirred. The two were met by ashes sifting through the cold winter air, and the sight of burnt goods and a broken wagon. Littering the campsite were the hacked and burned bodies of several travelers, many childlike in size, yet garbed in armor and adult wear. Caeliss realized this had been a Halfling troupe, most likely travelling from Icemule.

As Caeliss dismounted and began to explore the wreckage of the sacked camp, he heard a small sound. Tilting his head to the side he heard a faint cry and realized he was hearing a cry of distress. Quickly searching the area, he discovered a large basket, while covered in ash, had not been disturbed by whatever bandit or brigand had destroyed this small caravan. Tipping over the wicker dome they discover a wee babe, covered in blankets wearing a locket engraved with the name "Aniket" on it.

Rovvigen's Most Prized Divination Tools

a translucent silver-hearted crystal
Finvale's Crystals
Ovoid in shape, the crystal is translucent with tiny bubbles trapped just beneath its surface, while at its heart a crystalline structure of silver spreads its branching arms outward in all directions. Rolling and flitting in sinuous patterns that at times ascends the metallic enigma, and at other times descends it, is a miasmic mist that undulates in and out of barely recognizable patterns. A simple chain has been attached to the device, its metal seemingly dull in comparison to the rest.

an ora-framed leather wolf mask
Scrying mask
Images of stars and willow leaves have been incised along the strips of pale grey ora that cover and shape the exterior of the wolf mask. The leather beneath is tanned to a fine, supple softness and dyed chocolate brown. Two disks, each half mistwood and half ebony, hang on a leather thong to rest just above the right eye. A black and silver sigil has been painted on the brow. A few bloodstains mar the bottom edge of the mask.
