In 2023, Herblore Tomes were updated. The pictoral index is still available, showing all forageable items which grow in one room. The 50 hard-coded pages have been replaced with a dynamic search of all forageables available in the tome's realm. When each entry is read, it will list the climate and terrain appropriate for the forageable, any entry from the Elanthian Flora Guide, and any entry from Speech Unspoken: The Language of Flowers.

GAZE will show whether the selected forageable is present in the particular room, and if it is foraged out. PONDER will show where in the immediate area (maybe same LOCATION, maybe not, depending on how the area was built) the forageable grows. Moving while holding the tome with a forageable selected will alert you when you enter a room that the forageable grows in. If you have an active foraging bounty task in the tome's realm, when you hold the tome it will alert you without you needing to select it first. The movement messaging is overridden if you have a movement style selected. All benefits apply in the tome's realm only.

When holding the tome while foraging, the negative bonus stemming from having only one hand free is removed, and a +25 bonus is granted.

You analyze your blue tome and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

Originally for the 5100 auction, a tattered tome is an Herblore Tome of Elanthia.
This is the Herblore Tome for Wehnimer's Landing, the only one of its kind. You could:
LOOK: - When open, this tells you what page it is open to; when closed, it tells you what town it's made for.
READ: - Provides information on foraged items, including appropriate terrains and climates; any official flora documentation; and any Flora Language documentation if applicable.
TURN: - Locate a particular forageable found in the tome's realm.
TURN {my tome} TO [{keyword} | INDEX | PICTURE]
GAZE: - Survey the current area looking for the selected forageable.
PONDER: - Check the immediate area looking for the selected forageable.
FLUFF: - You could OPEN, CLOSE, TOUCH, CLEAN, CLENCH, FLIP, NOD, and TICKLE the tome.
USE: - When held and open, the tome will:
- Be referenced in movement messaging if your movement style is normal (you have a movement style set and will not see the messaging).
- Alert you when you enter a room that satisfied an active Adventurer's Guild foraging bounty.
- Alert you when you enter a room that a forageable selected via TURN grows in.
- Negate the held-item foraging penalty and provide a 25% foraging bonus.

Alterations of the long and/or show description are fine, but it must remain some type of intact book with pages. The realm cannot be changed.

Revision as of 14:26, 22 March 2023

An herblore tome is a scripted book used to determine the herbs in the rooms in a select region. These tomes are old items, the last of which were auctioned at the Solstice Dreams event in 2005. The tomes were updated in 2023 to account for the functionality of the original tomes being made obsolete by the introduction of FORAGE SENSE.

2023 Updates

Analyze

Pictorial Index page 50

Each page contains information about the specific herb. Below is acantha leaf as an example:

Acantha is one of several herbs in a group which will heal mild concussion damage when eaten (the leaves are the most beneficial). It can be found in a wide range of climates, from near-desert conditions to moist ocean beaches.

Page 50 is a pictorial index. When used in a room with items that can be foraged, the pictorial index will appear as below:

This page is devoid of words, save for the small caption under each of the countless images of plants, roots, and other flora.

Glancing at the page full of pictures of herbs, the calamia fruit, haphip root, trollfear mushroom, soft white mushroom, withered black mushroom, daggerstalk mushroom, flathead mushroom, genkew mushroom, blue trafel mushroom, wild gooseberry, water chestnut, stalk of cattail, small wild rose, lady slipper blossom, wood violet, pepperthorn root, wavepetal blossom, bolmara lichen, talneo root, wingstem root, bur-clover root, pink peppercorn, black peppercorn, vanilla bean, cumin seeds, and star anise pictures light up.

In a room without items that can be foraged, the pictorial index shows only the top line.

Additional Information

The herblore tome was once considered an auction-level item. With the advent of forage sense it has become all but obsolete.

There was speculation at one time that RUBbing the tome when it is on an herb page (say, acantha leaf), would give the user a bonus to foraging for that herb. This has not been substantiated.
