For spells with multiple effects cast through CAST {target}, open cast, CHANNEL, and/or EVOKE, such as Pious Trial (1602) and Web (118), INCANT can be set to cast a specific version of the spell.
For channel-type verbs, to change the default behaviour of incant, use "set CHANNELINCANT [on|off]" or through StormFront's advanced option features.

For spells with both targeted and open casting versions, such as Pious Trial (1602), INCANT defaults to the targeted version. It is not possible to cast the open version with a single command (except with client-side aliases or macros).

Revision as of 16:11, 25 September 2015

Since mid-2015 there has been a considerable amount of development with Hot Summer Nights 2015, the Elemental Lore Review, and the Teleportation review.

Pages with this banner have been affected by development and are in various stages of update progress, but not yet complete.

INCANT is a verb which combines both the preparation and casting or channeling of a spell into one command. Cast roundtime is incurred normally. Unlike the CAST verb, INCANT can not be used to specify a target at the time of casting. However, one can specify targets for INCANT by using the TARGET command.

 • INCANTing offensive magic without a set target will default to the first available living creature. Further incants will continue being aimed at the original target until it is no longer available (dead or left the area).
 • INCANTing defensive magic without a set target will default to one's self.
 • INCANT will try to find a target before trying to prepare an offensive spell.
 • It is recommended to TARGET CLEAR after casting magic at another player, so that INCANTing in the field does not accidentally target them.

For spells with multiple effects cast through CAST {target}, open cast, CHANNEL, and/or EVOKE, such as Pious Trial (1602) and Web (118), INCANT can be set to cast a specific version of the spell.

Multi-casting

Training in the appropriate mana control skills (Elemental Mana Control, Mental Mana Control, Spiritual Mana Control) can unlock additional usages of this verb.

A caster may more quickly stack the duration of buff spells, one additional shot per threshold tier. The relevant spell circle (single-sphere or hybrid) will determine how to calculate the necessary ranks for each tier. For single-sphere professions, each tier is 25 ranks of the appropriate mana control. For hybrid professions, fully count each rank of mana control in the sphere of the particular spell circle, and sum with it half the mana control ranks of the complementary professional hybrid sphere mana control, each tier represented in blocks of 25 skill ranks of this total. For hybrid circles, the primary mana control skill is whichever of the two is higher. The mana cost scales with the total number of casts while casting roundtime remains fixed.

For example, a cleric with 25 ranks of Spiritual Mana Control (tier one) could cast two shots of Spirit Warding I (101) simultaneously. This can be done for example to one's self:

>incant 101 2
You gesture while calling upon the lesser spirits to aid you with the Spirit Warding I spell...
Your spell is ready.
You make a complex gesture, increasing the potency of your spell.
A light blue glow surrounds you.
