WRITING can be done on a variety of media such as labels, writable books, and parchment/paper from Wax Eloquent‎ in Ta'Illistim. Writing on these items requires a quill. Writing on a chalkboard requires chalk.

Usage:
WRITE {target} - Make a writing motion at someone or something

In certain locations or with certain targets, one of the following may also apply:
WRITE {target} - Write on someone or something
    WRITE {message} - Write a message
    WRITE {target}; {message} - Write a message on something

The various writable items have been built differently throughout the years and one must do a little trial and error to see which of the options above work best.

One can write in a different language by using the SPEAK (option) to switch.

For more detail on each item, see the individual item's page, if available.

Parchment/Paper

  • Use WRITE {target}; {message}.
    • Use | to insert a line break.
  • Use CLEAN to erase (only person who wrote may clean).
  • Can be dyed with any dyer's tent or alchemy dye.
  • Can be treated with perfume to add a scent.

Label

  • Using a the writing implement, WRITE {message}.
  • One should not write label {message} or the first word on the label will be "label." For writing stats and use the + sign, use a semi-colon before the + if the + is the first character of the label (e.g., WRITE ;+5 to aura bonus, +5 wisdom bonus, persists).
  • Remember to READ the label before doing anything else to make sure it is correct. CLEAN label to remove what has been written to start over.
  • PULL label to remove backing.
  • PUT my label on my (item) to attach the label to the item.
  • If the label is still messed up write on a new label and cover up the old one using the same steps.

Chalkboard

  • Use WRITE {target}; {message}
  • RUB to clean.
  • Single line only.
>write chalk;This is my chalkboard
Holding your black slate chalkboard steady in your left hand, you tighten your grip on a thin piece of white chalk and write the following message upon the slate in the Common tongue: "This is my chalkboard."
>speak elv
You are now speaking Elven.
>rub chalk
You vigorously rub the surface of your chalkboard with the palm of one hand, rapidly cleaning the slate to make room for a new message.
>write chalk; This is my chalkboard Holding your black slate chalkboard steady in your left hand, you tighten your grip on a thin piece of white chalk and write the following message upon the slate in the Elven tongue: "This is my chalkboard." >read my chal In the Elven language, it reads: This is my chalkboard.

Writable book

Writable books are actually two items: the book and the pages within. Sometimes one manipulates the BOOK, and other times the PAGE. They have a 1021 character capacity.

  • With the book open and either a stylus or quill in hand -- WRITE book;{message}
    • To insert a line break in your writing, use the | symbol.
  • PUSH PAGE: Used with the PAGEs in the book as the target to provide the current page number
  • CLEAN PAGE: Used with the PAGEs in the book as the target in order to erase the contents of a page
  • TEAR PAGE: Used with the PAGEs in the book as the target in order to tear a page from the book

Other items

These items also use WRITE in some fashion, but not as adeptly as the items above.
