Summary

 • Rooks are spotted moving on rooftops toward the east side of town and the docks, where a group led by Sir Cryheart had already been gathered on the rainy night. A lightning flash briefly reveals Rone at Moot Hall as well before the vigilante leaps out of sight.
 • However, before anything happens at the docks, shouts go up from town--the blood markings from Malluch Burdos have been cleaned up and some angry people don't want to stop there. A dockworker runs by into a crowd of people waving torches and vowing to pay "blood papa" a visit. And right on cue, fires spark at Murdos Burdos' shop!
 • Cryheart's group rushes toward the area to begin putting out the fires, and meanwhile three ships are spotted approaching on the horizon of Darkstone Bay. Just as the crew gets the fire under control, human, elven, and half-elven thugs assault the gemshop, throwing more torches at the fire and attacking those nearby.
 • Rone dashes about, knocking out rogues in the streets before vanishing into the shadows. Cryheart's group awaits arrival at the docks while Mayor Leafiara's group battles at the gemshop, where some thugs manage to run off with sacks of loot from Murdos. Rone knocks out one more and slips away.
 • Meanwhile, the ships continue approaching as thugs clash with adventurers in the streets. Cryheart's group guards the dock while Loamian moves to the sea gate near the Order of Voln monastery. As the last of the thugs are eliminated, all groups but Loamian converge at the docks.
 • The ships come closer, though not close enough to see their banners, flashes of white light flicker along their sides--right before they explode! Debris, shrapnel, and screams fly as an energy shockwave hits all the way to the docks!
 • After everyone recovers, Leafi scours the bay for survivors and information but sees nothing. Loamian notes that the current should push flotsam in his direction--and, indeed, the survivors swim toward his location. However, as they arrive, the bandits rush and cut them down!
 • Rooks run toward the docks and are met with a clash against the bandits as other town defenders continue ridding the streets of the rest of the bandits.
 • Rone rescues a single surviving sailor and takes him back to outside of town, then nods as a crowd arrives to investigate and slips away. He coughs and spits up blood and the skin near the shrapnel in his body begins to bubble... then he coughs up oily green ichor. He manages to rasp out that he was trying to prove and seek the best living he could. Empaths seem unable to treat him and everyone's unable to get information from him in his condition.
 • Mother appears in the crowd and approaches the sailor, placing her hand behind his neck. She whispers something to him and he nods, then she slips a needle into his neck and lowers him to the ground, now dead. She says she won't see her people suffer; Leafi asks if he was one of ours and she says in all ways yes.
 • Faerinn asks if she showed similar mercy to the caravan and she says the Rooks didn't harm the caravan and whoever did is likely responsible for tonight. He says that's a bold claim she has yet to prove.
 • Captain Shinann says Mother is framing what she did as an act of kindness and Mother says it was, and he asked for peace; she (Shinann) says we didn't hear that because she (Mother) whispered to him. She says she thought about it herself but would have said it out loud. Mother says he was suffering and more than the explosion was killing him.
 • Questions come in about what was killing him, what was on the shrapnel, and what was the corruption coming from his wounds, and Mother says we'll begin to discover that together, as something released during the explosion. She says they attacked the Brotherhood and "some of our interests."
 • Leafi asks if Rone might have been behind it, since Mother had called Rone a thorn once; Mother says Rone is a thorn, but no, this was brutality on another level. She calls it a message sent and other Rooks arrive to carry away the corpse. Mother says if they wish to test the will and reach of the Brotherhood, they will regret it, then disappears into the night.
 • As the gathered crowd reassembles at Moot Hall and attempts to make sense of the night's proceedings, a young Hendoran squire arrives and nervously whispers something to Magister Raelee.

Idle Chatter

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see a sinuous bone white serpent, the Ormar disk, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, the Guarrin disk, the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, the Berost disk, the Zinetsu disk, the Uskeye disk, the Stormicore disk, the Jessamana disk, a large acorn, a scratched ring, some stone benches with some stuff on it and an herbal remedy donation bin.

Also here: Chaoswynd, Syntharis, Barrister Faerinn, Lord Thrassus, Ormar, Guarrin, Mayor Leafiara, Sir Cryheart, Miss Goblyn, Lady Peggyanne, Zinetsu, Uskeye, Kippe, Stormicore, Jessamana, Veramilion, Orlicks

The sky begins to fill with huge clouds, dark and grey on the bottom, pale and white atop, their puffy crowns ascending toward the heavens.

Speaking vaguely to Uskeye, Goblyn promises, "You will like the trees in some day, I do think."

Uskeye says, "True."

Uskeye says, "I like trees just fine. So long as they aren't trying to kill me."

Uskeye says, "Oy."

Leafiara muses, "I don't see or sense Pukk."

Speaking slowly to Uskeye, Goblyn says, "Maybe we will have different definitions of what is to be 'killing'."

Leafiara recites:

"Everybody join Cryheart!"

Uskeye asks, "What's going on?"

Speaking confusedly to Leafiara, Goblyn asks, "You are making like you are... Pukk?"

Speaking sagely to Goblyn, Leafiara exclaims, "Have to fill in for my dear friend, of course!"

Speaking amusedly to Leafiara, Goblyn suggests, "Maybe you will make the jokes like he does like to do?"

Speaking cautiously to Goblyn, Leafiara admits, "I'm not good at those like he is!"

Speaking to Shinann, Faerinn says, "You've missed...some events."

Speaking to Faerinn, Shinann says, "I have had a short report from Stormyrain."

Speaking happily to Leafiara, Goblyn exclaims, "This is why you will make the jokes many times until you are better in them!"

Speaking to Shinann, Faerinn says, "Short report."

Speaking to Leafiara, Goblyn mouths, "You can also maybe then be making this jokes to Grishom Stone, yes?"

Shinann says, "Well, enough."

Goblyn offers Draught a crisped kitten pot pie.

Speaking amusedly to Goblyn, Leafiara says, "Done it before, probably will again."

Draught declines Goblyn's offer.

Speaking to Leafiara, Peggyanne says, "I owe ye chocolate."

Draught says, "I'm still recovering from the last one."

Speaking to Shinann, Faerinn says, "I'm not sure how to fit all that into a short report."

Speaking helpfully to Draught, Goblyn suggests, "Maybe if you do eat this one, it will help you to be recovering faster."

Draught asks, "Oh?"

Goblyn offers Razanetika a crisped kitten pot pie.

Speaking to Draught, Goblyn asks, "Maybe next time you will be having the pie, yes?"

Razanetika gawks at Goblyn.

Draught says, "Erm...very well."

Razanetika weeps at Goblyn softly, quiet tears falling from her eyes.

Speaking thoughtfully to Draught, Goblyn asks, "Or maybe I can be sending you the kittens outside of the pie?"

Guarrin shakes his head at Goblyn and clucks his tongue.

Razanetika accepts Goblyn's kitten pot pie.

Draught says, "That is preferable."

Razanetika offers Asben a crisped kitten pot pie.

Draught says, "Live kittens."

Razanetika covers her nose tightly.

Razanetika gives Asben a friendly prod against the back.

Asben accepts Razanetika's kitten pot pie.

Speaking to Razanetika, Goblyn declares, "It is delicious, you will be liking it, Razanetika!"

Razanetika looks over at Goblyn and shakes her head.

Speaking softly to Goblyn, Razanetika says, "Me no eat kitties."

Razanetika whimpers.

Speaking dreamily to Draught, Goblyn exclaims, "Fresh and juicy!"

Draught says, "As long as they are living."

Peggyanne says, "I'm just gonna walk away now."

Asben put a crisped kitten pot pie in his rolaren-trimmed greatcloak.

Speaking slowly to Guarrin, Goblyn asks, "But it is not tricking, yes?"

Uskeye says, "Thunder makes me nervous, for some reason.. Particularly in this town."

Speaking to Razanetika, Goblyn grumbles, "You will give it back then, yes?"

Speaking to Goblyn, Guarrin says, "I thought so. He seemed a bit pale for a bit."

Speaking softly to Goblyn, Razanetika says, "I gave to Asben.. he likes those things."

Goblyn whispers something to Razanetika.

Goblyn nods approvingly at Asben.

Asben removes a crisped kitten pot pie from in his rolaren-trimmed greatcloak.

Asben offers Razanetika a crisped kitten pot pie.

Speaking to Guarrin, Goblyn ponders, "Maybe I will be bringing a different flavor for him in this future times."

Razanetika shows Goblyn her fiery scarab choker.

Asben whispers something to Razanetika.

Razanetika declines Asben's offer.

Speaking to Razanetika, Goblyn exclaims, "This is very good... maybe instead of this eating, it will be wearing!"

Razanetika flutters her eyelashes at Goblyn.

Speaking slowly to Razanetika, Goblyn asks, "Razanetika, I do think maybe there is something in your eye, yes?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Uskeye asks, "We expecting trouble of any kind?"

Speaking in Giantman to Draught, Guarrin asks something you don't understand.

Speaking helpfully to Razanetika, Goblyn asks, "I can be removing it, if you will like?"

Cryheart says, "Tis raining...aye."

Speaking musingly to Uskeye, Leafiara says, "Probably not. It's been quiet for weeks."

Speaking to Goblyn, Asben says, "I traded the last pie ya gave me for a piece of halfling."

Cryheart says, "Of some sorts."

Leafiara admits, "Well, depends on the definition of trouble."

Speaking to Asben, Goblyn asks, "It was delicious, yes?"

High Lord Gutstorm just stumbled in, flailing his arms wildly while trying to right himself!

Speaking softly to Goblyn, Razanetika asks, "The thing in my eyes, surely not my eyes?"

A patchy ship rat scurries into the room.

A buck-toothed brown rat scurries into the room.

A burly river rat scurries into the room.

A short-tailed ship rat scurries into the room.

Shinann says, "Umm."

Uskeye says, "Doesn't trouble me unless it might crush my skull... So as long as it isn't raining boulders...."

Ormar says, "Rats."

Speaking skeptically to Razanetika, Goblyn says, "Maybe, maybe not? If I do remove this eye, I can be telling you more certainly."

Cryheart says, "Oh no...the rat patrol."

Faerinn says, "Not the rats..."

Shinann asks, "Rat patrol?"

Leafiara sagely says, "Gutstom's rat army."

Cryheart says, "Look at all the rats."

Speaking to Shinann, Asben says, "Army."

Speaking softly to Goblyn, Razanetika asks, "You be giving back this eye thingy?"

Draught says, "This town is filled to the brim with rats."

Cryheart asks, "Rather than kittens, how about a rat pie?"

Goblyn says, "Maybe it will be rat pie in some short time..."

Cryheart grins at Goblyn.

Speaking to Cryheart, Asben says, "They have diseases."

Speaking to Goblyn, Leafiara says, "They make rat on a stick down in Solhaven."

Speaking drunkenly to Goblyn, Gutstorm says, "Me got fifteen ub dem nowsh."

Speaking to Draught, Kothos says, "Yes, most of us earned our keep off of them for a short while."

Speaking to Kothos, Faerinn asks, "Greeting's from Rat's Landing. How has the Temple been doing?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Goblyn says, "There are so many..."

Speaking amusedly to Gutstorm, Leafiara says, "You and your endless rats."

Speaking to Faerinn, Kothos says, "Quite well, though we still need to set about your plan, and Alvyara's, here."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Razanetika says, "Tis his mini wanna be army."

Speaking to Kothos, Alvyara asks, "My plan?"

Speaking to Kothos, Alvyara says, "My only plan was to go to bed."

Speaking gently to Goblyn, Kothos says, "I never liked hunting them, to be honest. I didn't for long."

Speaking to Kothos, Faerinn asks, "Plan?"

Speaking to Alvyara, Goblyn says, "I do not think it is time for sleeping yet, Alvyara."

Speaking to Goblyn, Alvyara asks, "What do you mean?"

Speaking to Kothos, Goblyn asks, "There is a reason why this is?"

Speaking to Goblyn, Kothos says, "I rather like the little monsters."

Speaking to Faerinn, Kothos says, "We need to find some lonely masons to work out how to get the northern wall fixed."

Speaking to Kothos, Alvyara says, "Do you really want it fixed? I feel like it fits with the theme of the entire place."

Speaking to Kothos, Goblyn says, "... they are not very good monsters, though, maybe."

Speaking amusedly to Goblyn, Alvyara says, "You're very cheerful, aren't you."

Speaking to Kothos, Guarrin asks, "How are things out at the temple?"

Speaking to Goblyn, Kothos says, "No, but I admire their tenacity. They're everywhere. Almost like humans."

Madmountan hauls off and slaps Leafiara up'side the head!

Madmountan says, "Wait.."

Goblyn asks, "I am... as I always am, yes?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Madmountan says, "I'm so sorry."

Speaking to Kothos, Faerinn says, "Ah...yes. You'd think lonely masons would be something to easily drum up."

Speaking to Goblyn, Kothos suggests, "Gorgeous?"

Speaking amusedly to Madmountan, Leafiara says, "No worries, figured maybe it was for taking a two-week vacation at the arena."

Leafiara whistles tunelessly to herself.

Speaking to Goblyn, Alvyara says, "I guess I don't.. know you that well, really."

Speaking shyly to Kothos, Goblyn says, "I am maybe not -that-."

Madmountan says, "I just...missed my salute or something."

Speaking to Goblyn, Kothos says, "I would welcome getting to know you better."

Alvyara sternly says, "Kothos."

Gutstorm takes quick aim at Madmountan and pulls the silver lever on the monir water cannon!

With a click and a loud *WHOOSH*, a torrent of water hurtles out of the cannon directly at him! The spray hits Madmountan right in the head with a loud *SPLAT*, knocking him backwards to land comically on his rear!

Madmountan stands up.

Gutstorm cackles!

Madmountan cackles!

The voice of Goblyn carefully asks, "Maybe you will look in my head in some day, Alvyara, and then you will know better, yes?"

Alvyara asks, "Why would I look in your head?"

Alvyara asks, "And how?"

Cryheart asks, "Err...look in your head?"

A flash of lightning briefly illuminates the sky as storm clouds grow over Darkstone Bay.

Speaking slowly to Kothos, Goblyn asks, "And maybe I will be fixing -your- eyes, so that you will see better, yes?"

Gutstorm drunkenly exclaims, "Darkstone bay!"

Speaking to Goblyn, Faerinn asks, "Was that an invite?"

Leafiara says, "Ah, end-of-summer storms."

Draught asks, "Are there any healers present?"

Speaking slowly to Faerinn, Goblyn says, "For Alvyara, maybe, yes, in some night."

Gutstorm drunkenly exclaims, "MUSH losht ranger Cryheart, Mush!"

Guarrin whispers something to Cryheart.

Cryheart says, "We may be heading to the North docks."

Cryheart says, "All join."

Guarrin whispers something to Draught.

Cryheart says, "We have some visitors coming perhaps."

Cryheart says, "Moving out."

Expected and Unexpected Arrivals

[Wehnimer's, North Dock]

The dock's planks are dull and weathered from the salt spray of many seasons. Northward beyond the massive sea gates, a flock of ice geese passes, silhouetted against the sky over the waters of Darkstone Bay. The hulk of a derelict coastal sailer is tethered to the end of the pier. You also see a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it, the murky waters of Darkstone Bay, a stack of empty crates, some huge wooden crates, some stacked piles of supplies and an elegant riverboat with a gaily beribboned mahogany gangplank.

Gutstorm drunkenly says, "Letsh go shink dere boat before dey dock."

Goldstr asks, "Aye?"

Cryheart says, "We dinnae know who is coming yet."

Speaking baffledly to Gutstorm, Goblyn asks, "We are making this boat smaller?"

Leafiara optimistically says, "Maybe nothing's coming except a storm."

Speaking drunkenly to Goblyn, Gutstorm exclaims, "I knowsh yooz tinkin da shame fing!"

Speaking to himself, Guarrin mutters, "Don't the rats usually arrive with the ship?"

Kothos says, "I bet we're about to find out who all is coming."

Faerinn says, "I'm sure whoever is coming will see us and promptly leave."

A dappled ocelot saunters in.

Speaking to Faerinn, Kothos says, "I doubt it."

Speaking to Guarrin, Kippe says, "They're desperate to leave."

Goblyn whispers something to the dappled ocelot.

Speaking to a dappled ocelot, Loamian says, "No."

Speaking to Goblyn, Loamian says, "Don't incite her."

Speaking carefully to Loamian, Goblyn asks, "How will I be making this inciting?"

Leafiara muses, "I guess one could say we have a strong culture of storm chasers."

Alvyara asks, "..we're waiting for someone? But we don't know who?"

Speaking amusedly to Chaoswynd, Leafiara says, "But especially you."

Speaking to Leafiara, Ormar says, "Seems so."

Speaking to Alvyara, Kothos says, "No idea."

Faerinn says, "It's a thing we do."

Speaking to Goblyn, Loamian asks, "Through whisperings?"

Leafiara says, "I didn't see any ships, just a storm."

Speaking to Alvyara, Kothos says, "We're watching the summer rains to see where they swell."

Leafiara admits, "But it is dark out..."

Some dark hooded figures can be seen creeping along some rooftops, moving towards the eastern side of town and the docks.

Ormar says, "Ah."

Draught says, "Rooks."

Speaking to Kothos, Alvyara asks, "Swell, hm?"

Ormar says, "Now we see."

Uskeye says, "Great."

Leafiara curiously says, "Oh, odd."

Speaking to Loamian, Goblyn encourages, "Maybe you will tell me what will be happening when she is incited, yes?"

Kothos says, "...and there's the rest of the welcoming committee."

Faerinn says, "Every couple of months we gather by the docks during a storm - the worst time to do so."

Thrassus asks, "Wonder what problems they will be causing tonight?"

Alvyara whispers aloud, "Is that the Rooks?"

Cryheart says, "Well..seems the Rooks are either watching us...or."

Guarrin whispers something to Cryheart.

[General] Nennius thinks, "Rooks on the rooftops."

Kothos says, "I hope they brought the cake. Last time they forgot and brought death and explosions instead."

Faerinn says, "Then show interloper at whoever arrives until they leave."

Lightning flashes above Moot Hall and for a single moment the ghostly white shadow of a masked figure appears, then it leaps out of sight.

Speaking to Goblyn, Loamian says, "Who knows? She's a wild animal."

Leafiara wonders, "What could they want at this time--"

Speaking to Kothos, Madmountan asks, "So...the cake was a lie?"

Draught says, "Ah."

Alvyara asks, "Did you see that?"

Uskeye says, "Ah crud."

Leafiara says, "Ahh, there's our latest Rone as well..."

Goblyn whispers something to Loamian.

Speaking to Madmountan, Kothos says, "I see what you did there."

(Faerinn shouts "Interlopers!" at the figures running across the rooftop.)

Thrassus says, "It's going to be one of those evenings."

Randosa says, "I was seeing some strange weather outside of town as well."

Goblyn yells, "Come out, come out, Rooks!"

Speaking to Goblyn, Madmountan asks, "Can we eat them?"

Gutstorm yells, "Or yooz get fire in da shky!"

(Faerinn waves and shouts "Good evening Casiphia!" as the white figure jumps away.)

Madmountan exclaims, "Rook pie!"

Speaking musingly to Madmountan, Leafiara says, "But there's no Crux..."

Speaking cheerfully to Madmountan, Goblyn exclaims, "This is a -very- nice idea, Madmountan!"

There erupts some shouting in a nearby street of town, "We cleaned their blood from the streets and our buildings, who wants to stop there?"

Cryheart says, "I dinnae think they will be tasty."

Dergoatean says, "Clearly I've missed a few happenings."

Kothos asks, "...I do?"

Someone else shouts in reply, "Not me!"

Madmountan says, "Yeah, all that jumping around makes them very gamey."

Alvyara asks, "Who's yelling?"

Alvyara says, "We ought to find them."

Speaking to Cryheart, Goblyn whispers aloud, "Maybe with some days to sit in this sun after the death, they will have better flavor..."

Leafiara wonders, "As opposed to not stopping? What would that entail?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Randosa says, "Some questions are best left unasked and unanswered."

Speaking to Goblyn, Kothos asks, "Making man jerky?"

Leafiara slowly says, "...unless they're implying--"

Gutstorm yells, "Yall need prayah in yer livesh!"

Bbee asks, "Who do I join?"

Cryheart says, "I am surprised ye are nae drooling at that thought, Miss Goblyn."

Dergoatean says, "Cryblob."

Faerinn asks, "Was the blood from all the circles Rook blood then?"

Goblyn whispers something to Randosa.

Leafiara concludes, "That they want to be rid of remnants of Malluch's followers, perhaps."

Shinann says, "Seems lots of the markings have vanished... unless.."

Speaking to Leafiara, Ormar says, "Understandable, I suppose."

Goblyn whispers something to Yukito.

Cryheart says, "Perhaps this rain will wash out the rest."

Speaking musingly to Ormar, Leafiara says, "Well, it's a free town. I'm just curious since Malluch's been gone for weeks with no further signs of activity."

Gutstorm picked up a coin.

Gutstorm sings with jollity:

"Yoink"

Alvyara asks, "No news of where he is, or what he's doing?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Ormar says, "Perhaps the Rooks are aware of something we are not."

Kothos says, "Perhaps they're curious about the Marshall."

Faerinn says, "He's probably starting a campaign for Town Council."

Alvyara says, "He ought to be hiding in shame. But it seems too much to hope that he actually is."

Speaking to Alvyara, Leafiara says, "Just ran off into the forest for unknown reasons."

Faerinn says, "While preparing Stone's next 'crop'."

Thrassus says, "They had best keep away from the Spire."

Kothos says, "No. He's had his faith tested."

Speaking to Leafiara, Goldstr asks, "He went to da Bleaklands wid Stone aye?"

Kothos says, "But I am thinking he still has it."

Saverik softly asks, "What's goin on here?"

Speaking to Faerinn, Guarrin says, "I suppose that's possible."

Alvyara says, "Some respond to a testing of faith by.. doubling down."

Cryheart says, "Storm across the bay."

Speaking to Saverik, Alvyara says, "Nothing, at the moment. Truly."

Speaking to Goldstr, Leafiara says, "No, Stone didn't want him in the Deadfall... he told Malluch to prepare another group for another harvest."

Cryheart says, "Rooks watching."

Speaking to Saverik, Ormar says, "Storm watching and rook yelling."

Leafiara says, "But nothing since then. It's... really odd."

Saverik softly says, "Fair e'nuff."

Speaking to Cryheart, Randosa says, "It looked particularly bad from the cliffs."

Speaking to Leafiara, Goblyn asks, "Maybe he is doing this in the... subtlyfuge?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Goldstr says, "Ah I missed dat."

A town dockman rushes in, some dark-clothes clinging to his bulky frame. He waves a torch around. "Come on! Let's go pay blood papa a visit!" He rushes off and joins a crowd of others waving torches.

Cryheart says, "I can imagine."

Speaking to Leafiara, Goblyn whispers aloud, "This is the right word?"

Speaking tentatively to Goblyn, Leafiara says, "Yeah, maybe. He was starting to--"

Alvyara says, "Ugh."

Uskeye says, "Oh good. Malcontents."

Kothos says, "Oh no."

Ormar asks, "Storm papa?"

Leafiara slowly asks, "Are they going to try to burn down the forest?"

Cryheart asks, "Where is Malluch?"

Kothos says, "The gemshop."

Xorus says, "They might mean Murdos."

Speaking in Faendryl, Dergoatean says something you don't understand.

Shouts erupt from South Ring Road as flames rise near the Gemshop.

Alvyara says, "Oh -"

Leafiara says, "Ahh, that would f--"

Leafiara says, "Move."

Alvyara exclaims, "Oh, no!"

Goblyn amusedly says, "'Blood papa'..."

Cryheart says, "Gads."

Ormar says, "No."

[travel]

Alvyara says, "We have to go."

Goldstr asks, "Blood Papa?"

Ormar says, "We need the shop."

[Wehnimer's, South Ring Rd.]

A short distance to the east lies a broad intersection. To the west, the road narrows slightly as it is impinged on by closely-spaced shops, beyond which the western and southern city walls intersect. A few townsfolk mingle under the circles of lamplight in the cobbled street. You also see a crackling fire, a crackling fire, a crackling fire, a crackling fire, a crackling fire, a crackling fire, some smeared animal blood written on the gemshop that reads, "Blood Son Lover." and a fresh painted gemcutter's shop.

Cryheart suddenly bursts into flames!

Leafiara mutters, "Just like the old days."

Cryheart suddenly bursts into flames!

Leafiara suddenly bursts into flames!

Asben says, "That's a lot of rats."

Cryheart says, "Ouch."

You are unable to follow Cryheart.

Brighde suddenly bursts into flames!

Chaoswynd heaves an iron bucket onto the fire, which sputters and hisses!

The silhouttes of three ships can be seen on the horizon of Darkstone Bay, slowly approaching Wehnimer's Landing.

Leafiara says, "Oh, of course, now the ships come..."

Speaking quietly to herself, Raelee says, "... honestly."

Eph suddenly bursts into flames!

Leafiara yells, "You safe in there Murdos?"

From nearby, you hear Goblyn yell, "If you are not, we can be making pie!"

[General] Alvyara thinks, "I'll be there once I have hands again."

A white cloaked figure moves quickly in and out of the nearby alleyways, and chases a few dark-clothed rogues before knocking them out, leaving them stunned or dazed in the streets. The figure vanishes into the shadows.

[General] Chaoswynd thinks, "The fires are out."

Draught says, "That wasy easy enough." [OOC: whatever level these were, it was 89 or less since capped characters weren't getting exp]

Alvyara asks, "Fires out already?"

The voice of Asben says, "Fun times."

[General] Nickonai thinks, "That was quick."

Nuc says, "Quick and painless."

A dark-clothed human thug and company just arrived!

[extended combat]

[General] Pietra exclaims, "I am far too tired for this nonsense. Fight well, bring marshmallows!"

[extended combat]

[General] Leafiara thinks, "The fires are mostly out, but these... anti-zealot zealots are running rampant now."

[extended combat]

[Wehnimer's, South Ring Rd.] A short distance to the east lies a broad intersection. To the west, the road narrows slightly as it is impinged on by closely-spaced shops, beyond which the western and southern city walls intersect. A few townsfolk mingle under the circles of lamplight in the cobbled street. You also see a handaxe, a handaxe, a handaxe, an iron bucket, a dark-clothed human thug, a dark-clothed elven knave that is lying down, a dark-clothed half-elven hoodlum that is lying down, a handaxe, a handaxe, a wooden shield, a wooden shield, a wooden shield, a wooden shield, an iron bucket, a dark-clothed human thug that appears dead, a dark-clothed elven knave that appears dead, a dark-clothed half-elven hoodlum that is lying down, a dark-clothed human thug that appears dead, a dark-clothed elven knave that appears dead, a dark-clothed half-elven hoodlum, a dark-clothed human thug, a dark-clothed elven knave, a dark-clothed half-elven hoodlum, a handaxe, a dark-clothed human thug, a dark-clothed elven knave, a dark-clothed half-elven hoodlum, an iron bucket, a dark-clothed human thug, a dark-clothed elven knave that appears dead, a dark-clothed half-elven hoodlum, the bucket-shaped Saverik disk, the Brighde disk, a pretty flower girl, a jubilant luck spirit that is flying around, a ruffled raven, the Stormicore disk, a wooden shield, a wooden shield, the Uskeye disk, a table leg, the Asben disk, a spotted great horned owl, an iron bucket, a sinuous bone white serpent, an iron bucket, an iron bucket, the Towermen disk, an iron bucket, the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, some smeared animal blood written on the gemshop that reads, "Blood Son Lover." and a fresh painted gemcutter's shop.

[extended combat]

[General] Guarrin thinks, "Thugs outside gemshop."

[combat]

[General] Pangin thinks, "I think I'll stay in the pawnshop."

[very extended combat]

[General] Cryheart thinks, "A small group is at the docks."

Leafiara slowly says, "Well, so much for attempts at subduing."

Xorus says, "Hooliganism."

[General] Shinann asks, "Did those ships dock?"

[General] Cryheart thinks, "Not yet."

[General] Shinann thinks, "Thank you."

[General] Leafiara asks, "Does anywhere need backup?"

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Things are under control at Murdos' now."

Some dark clothed thugs run off from the gemshop, sacks in their hands as they flee down some streets.

[General] Goblyn asks, "He is alive or he is a corpse?"

Draught says, "Thieves."

[combat]

[General] Loamian asks, "Is the fire under control?"

[General] Ellottos thinks, "Looks like the thugs looted the gemshop."

Leafiara asks, "All joined?"

[General] Guarrin thinks, "Seems so. Looks like they were really just after some gems."

[General] Cruxophim exclaims, "Sounds hectic!"

Uskeye says, "There's more further up the road."

Shinann says, "I am a bit worried about Burdos."

Saverik softly says, "Ok."

A white cloaked figure descends from a rooftop in town, landing like an ivory gargoyle on top of one of the bandits, knocking them to the ground. With two gauntleted fists, the figure slams them into the thug's face then kicks them in the chin. The bandit rolls to the side, unconscious and bloodied. The white cloaked figure slips away.

[scouting]

Leafiara says, "Hm..."

Incoming Ships--

Three ships maneuver through the murky waters of the bay and head towards the sea gates of town.

[General] Goblyn asks, "I will prefer if there is a corpse, yes?"

Uskeye says, "Great."

[General] Leafiara exclaims, "If any on those ships can hear our thoughts, this might not be the best time to dock!"

[Town Square, Southeast]

Pedestrians and wagon traffic move off in all directions here, some going to the large intersection with South Ring Road, others crisscrossing the square via the bazaar. Men and women carrying neatly tied parcels or sacks and coils of rope slung over their arms emerge from the wooden facade of the old general store. You also see the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, the Uskeye disk, the Towermen disk, the Stormicore disk, the bucket-shaped Saverik disk, the Asben disk, the Brighde disk, a gypsy fortuneteller, a dark-clothed half-elven hoodlum, a dark-clothed elven knave, an iron bucket, a short maple plank wagon, a black-bearded coachman, a small oak stand with a coil of thick rope on it, a long wooden table with a small plate of steel on it and a mushy black door.

[General] Leafiara thinks, "We seem to be getting the situation under control, but it's a work in progress."

[combat]

[General] Cryheart asks, "Some folks at the sea gates by Voln?"

[combat]

[General] Leafiara asks, "Eyes on the docks?"

[General] Cryheart thinks, "Think."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Our group here is patrolling. Keep us posted."

[combat]

[General] Cryheart thinks, "Small group here at the North docks."

[combat]

[General] Loamian thinks, "I am at the river gate."

[combat]

[General] Loamian thinks, "Nothing to see here at the moment."

[General] Cryheart thinks, "Thanks, and keep us posted."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Hopefully not too early to say, but we seem to have calmed things down on the streets."

Nuc says, "Another problem solved with brute force."

You also see an iron bucket, an iron bucket, an iron bucket, the cauldron-shaped Inck disk, the Ormar disk, a friendly luck spirit that is flying around, a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it, the murky waters of Darkstone Bay, a stack of empty crates, some huge wooden crates, some stacked piles of supplies and an elegant riverboat with a gaily beribboned mahogany gangplank.

Also here: High Lord Gutstorm, Cruxophim, Lord Kothos, Grand Lord Mongonator, Magister Raelee, Dergoatean, Inck, Randosa, Yukito, Goldstr, Ormar, Miss Goblyn, Veramilion, Sir Cryheart, Lord Thrassus

Stormicore, Uskeye, Brighde, Saverik, Madmountan, Faerinn, Xorus, Kippe, Shinann, Guarrin, Nuc, Towermen and Chaoswynd followed.

Speaking to Ormar, Kothos says, "Rone. The...third one that I know of."

Speaking wryly to Cruxophim, Ormar says, "Other than that, all quiet."

Leafiara says, "Seemed like a rather... short-staffed attack."

Speaking to Faerinn, Kothos asks, "You all right?"

As the three ships come into closer view, even before their banners become visible in the night, there are three flashes of white light that flicker rapidly along the side of each vessel. Not even a second later the three ships suddenly explode! Bits of debris, wood, flames and metal shrapnel explode outward and upward and screams fill the night, from the ruins of the ships and the onlookers from the docks and town. Embers and debris still float in the air above where the ships once were as a wave of energy ripples out over the town with a tremendous force from the original blasts!

Taulramil falls to the ground! [and everyone else]

Kothos says, "...oof."

Taulramil says, "Damn."

The voice of Asben says, "Oof."

Leafiara slowly says, "...because they were planning something bigger..."

Cryheart says, "Whoa."

Inck says, "I fell on my keys."

Uskeye says, "Great."

Nuc exclaims, "We need da navy!"

Thrassus says, "Goodness."

[General] Loamian thinks, "I'm sure all of Wehnimer's saw that but it looks like the ships are no more."

Leafiara recites:

"Group on Cryheart! This could get ugly! ...uglier!"

Faerinn asks, "Why even destroy those!?"

Raelee remarks, "And now, it is interesting."

Xorus says, "I wonder if those had flesh golems on them, as well."

[General] Cryheart thinks, "Aye."

Speaking to Leafiara, Goblyn asks, "... or prettier, yes?"

[General] Nickonai thinks, "You could see it from the moon."

Speaking to Xorus, Kothos says, "I was just wondering that."

[General] Alvyara thinks, "Are there survivors in the water? Please tell me we can help somehow."

Cryheart says, "Look for flotsam and debris in the Bay."

Thrassus says, "There could be survivors, perhaps."

Leafiara musingly notes, "At this point there are at least three separate factions and we've little clue who's on what side."

A dark hooded figure falls from a rooftop near the docks. Blood gushes from his throat and his beaked mask falls from his face when he lands with a hollow thud. [I... assume from flying debris?]

[General] Loamian thinks, "Impossible to tell from here."

Draught says, "Another dead Rook."

Inck says, "Clumsy fellow."

Leafiara says, "Hm."

Tsarok quietly says, "He might be ded."

You leap off the docks and jump into the waters of Darkstone Bay!

[scouting]

[General] Leafiara thinks, "I'm swimming through now."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "But... I don't see anything..."

[return to the dock]

[Wehnimer's, North Dock]

The dock's planks are dull and weathered from the salt spray of many seasons. Northward beyond the massive sea gates, a flock of ice geese passes, silhouetted against the sky over the waters of Darkstone Bay. Cryheart says, "Looked for em..could nae seem em yet."

Speaking to Leafiara, Ormar asks, "Spot anything?"

Speaking to Cruxophim, Taulramil says, "Thank you so much sir."

Leafiara says, "No one I could find, at least not that I saw in the darkness."

Cryheart says, "Someone is trying to start a war."

Randosa says, "Even the birds know that something is wrong."

[General] Loamian thinks, "The current should push all the flotsam in my direction, will keep an eye out for survivors if any pop up."

Nuc says, "Ain't so easy to see through the waters of the bay."

[Realm] Yukito thinks, "Is this... How... This is..."

Speaking to Nuc, Leafiara says, "That's why most attacks are under cover of night, after all."

Leafiara says, "Strategically, it's usually the right move."

Nuc says, "You gotta come prepared."

[General] Cryheart thinks, "Let us know if ye see any or anyone."

[General] Shinann thinks, "Still being attacked in town."

[General] Leafiara asks, "Where at?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Guarrin says, "Going to clear out the square."

Leafiara says, "The captain's reporting more attacks."

[General] Porom thinks, "Small Park, for one, I think I'll be fine, though."

Leafiara says, "Moving out likewise."

[scouting and combat]

[General] Cryheart asks, "Still having trouble with those thugs?"

[General] Guarrin thinks, "Appears clear now."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Only a few strays remain."

Faction Warfare

Some people can be seen swimming away from the debris of the ships, swimming towards the eastern shore of the Locksmehr River and the sea gate where Loamian stands and watches. Suddenly, as some of the survivors swim ashore, some burnt, some badly wounded, all dazed, they are assaulted by dark-clothed bandits and knaves who rush into view and begin to cut them down, hacking into them as they try to scramble away!

[fogging over]

[Wehnimer's, Exterior]

You are standing on the eastern shore of the Locksmehr River at the point where it rushes out of the great river gates of Wehnimer's Landing. The twin guard towers that protect the gates rise far above the beach, perhaps as much as fifty feet above the level of the water. The heavy sea gates that span the river have been magnificently crafted so that they can be closed quickly and easily to prevent unwanted intrusions by seafaring craft. You also see a dark-clothed human thug, a dark-clothed elven knave, a dark-clothed half-elven hoodlum, a dark-clothed human thug, a dark-clothed elven knave, a dark-clothed half-elven hoodlum and a dappled ocelot.

[General] The ghost of Loamian thinks, "I was about to say I still didn't see anything but then I did."

Leafiara says, "You picked the wrong fight, doing this outside the gates..."

Kothos says, "Killing surviors of a fire while they scrabble for shore."

The ghostly voice of Loamian says, "I am but a canary in this coal mine."

Cryheart says, "Need aid for this brave fellow here."

Leafiara says, "Who are these people, t--"

[extended combat]

Some dark hooded figures leap off of rooftop and run towards the docks. They are met by some dark clothed thugs and bandits and begin to clash!

[General] The ghost of Loamian thinks, "As safe as anyone at the moment, at least they can't hurt me any longer."

[brief disconnect; hopefully nothing important lost]

[General] The ghost of Nickonai thinks, "I found them."

Ormar says, "Sorry."

Leafiara slowly says, "As much as Malluch might want to think otherwise, I was right in the end. Extend a pardon and it would provoke the vigilantes, I said..."

Thrassus says, "They are at the north docks now."

Speaking to Randosa, Kothos says, "Do me a favor. Don't go to the north docks for a few moments."

Cryheart says, "We hae some ill here."

[General] Guarrin thinks, "Docks clear again."

Fiery embers still glow over Darkstone Bay where the ships exploded. Much of the cries and agonized groans have died off as the remnants of the ships burn.

Leafiara says, "...moving to scout."

[General] The ghost of Nickonai thinks, "No they aren't."

[General] Cryheart asks, "We are back at town square central...mayor ye ok?"

You also see the Zinetsu disk, the Towermen disk, the Stormicore disk, the seaweed-covered Xayd disk, the Asben disk, the Ormar disk, the cauldron-shaped Inck disk, the Uskeye disk, a dappled ocelot, a friendly luck spirit that is flying around, a pale-faced coppery barn owl that is flying around, the Gherraltis disk, a sleek raven that is flying around, the Demandred disk, a raven, the Syntharis disk, a bacon-wrapped blood pudding donut, a bacon-wrapped blood pudding donut, a bacon-wrapped blood pudding donut, the Scarswyrth disk, a large acorn, a scratched ring, some stone benches with some stuff on it and an herbal remedy donation bin.

[General] Leafiara thinks, "All alright, except we've no idea what's going on."

Guarrin asks, "Were there any survivors in the bay recovered?"

Leafiara says, "A few made it to near Voln but were quickly struck down."

Speaking slowly to Raelee, Goblyn says, "I will maybe be back. I am going to see about this... Rook corpses."

Thrassus says, "There's still a few milling about on Locksmehr."

Leafiara says, "The question is what these people believe they're accomplishing."

Taulramil says, "Might need to patrol the shanty town, those knaves would blend into the shadows there."

Cryheart says, "I saw ye knocked em down..well done."

Last Vestige

A white cloaked figure emerges from Darkstone Bay, carrying in its arms the body of a burnt and battered human sailor. The sailor coughs, squeezing onto the white cloaked figure for dear life. The white cloaked figure makes it to the shore and helps guide the human sailor onto the ground near the wooden dinghy.

[travel]

[Wehnimer's, Exterior]

Recreational fishermen have beached their vessels on this sandy stretch of beach. To the south, you can see the wooden palisade that surrounds the Landing. You also see a sinuous bone white serpent, the Stormicore disk, the Uskeye disk, the Towermen disk, the seaweed-covered Xayd disk, the Asben disk, the cauldron-shaped Inck disk, the Rawdune disk, a friendly luck spirit that is flying around, a cloud greatfang, a burnt human sailor, a long rhimar-inlaid chest, a wooden sign and an abandoned wooden dinghy.

Also here: Magister Raelee, Lord Thrassus, Goldstr, Rawdune, Guarrin, Xayd, Shinann, Kippe, Towermen, Master Taulramil, Draught, Stormicore, Uskeye, Xorus, Lord Asben, Dergoatean, Inck, Yukito, Sir Cryheart, Cruxophim who is kneeling

Chaoswynd and Loamian followed.

Taulramil says, "What magic does that."

A white cloaked figure nods, slowly stepping away from the burnt sailor as the crowd arrives. Rone slips away into the night.

Thrassus asks, "Well, this one is quite maimed isn't he?"

Speaking to a burnt human sailor, Xorus says, "That is an impressive Thadston impersonation."

>l sai

The human sailor is burnt and battered with countless wounds covering his body. Metal shrapnel jut out of an entire side of his face and one eye is swollen shut and might be missing. Blood soaks his torso and fingers are missing from both hands.

The sailor coughs and spits up blood.

[General] Cryheart thinks, "Sailor by the dinghy."

Draught asks, "Where do you hail from?"

Thrassus asks, "Is he able to be saved?"

Speaking to Shinann, Leafiara asks, "Is he... can he be healed?"

Speaking thoughtfully to Thrassus, Cruxophim offers, "Working on it."

Taulramil asks, "Anything for his pain?"

Raelee remarks, "No obviously recognizable insignia."

Guarrin asks, "Can anyone tend to his wounds?"

The skin around the shrapnel in the sailor's skin begins to bubble.

Shinann says, "Umm."

Uskeye says, "Oh no."

Tsarok quietly says, "Never a good sign."

Leafiara slowly says, "...that might be a no..."

Loamian exclaims, "Beware!"

Goblyn whispers something to the human sailor.

Cruxophim grimly warns, "Might want to stand back."

The sailor coughs up blood and an oily green ichor.

Goldstr says, "Dat nae looks good."

Speaking earnestly to a burnt human sailor, Leafiara says, "You might want to make peace with Lormins--"

Inck says, "Hmmm."

Draught asks, "Just the one?"

Taulramil says, "What is that."

Cryheart says, "Yep..poison of some kind...or special explosive."

Draught asks, "All hands lost aside from this one?"

Leafiara uncertainly says, "Erm... odd."

Speaking to a burnt human sailor, Goblyn coos, "You are very pretty in this time."

Draught says, "One sailor from three ships..."

[General] Nickonai thinks, "As usual, that was an exercise in frustration and dying."

Taulramil says, "Poison or the source of the fire and explosion."

Thrassus asks, "He didn't explode?"

The sailor rasps, "Just...just wanted to..."

Cruxophim amusedly suggests, "If anyone would know the poison, she would."

Speaking to Thrassus, Guarrin says, "Not yet at least."

Leafiara says, "Coughing up... something."

Alvyara says, "Oh, no - you need healing, terribly."

Speaking to a burnt human sailor, Kothos says, "We have healers here."

Cryheart asks, "Where do ye hail from sailor?"

Inck says, "Someone collect a sample."

Taulramil says, "I heard the monks from a distant land dabble in the art of powders that go boom."

The sailor coughs more, the stain of blood along the stomach of his tunic spreading outward more.

Speaking gently to a burnt human sailor, Leafiara says, "Take your time and don't push yourself too hard--"

Speaking to Kothos, Goblyn complains, "But he does look very nice this way..."

Speaking quietly to a burnt human sailor, Kothos says, "Try to calm yourself. I know it hurts."

Speaking to a burnt human sailor, Goblyn croons, "It will be very nice for you soon."

Speaking to a burnt human sailor, Alvyara asks, "Won't you let us heal you first?"

The sailor rasps, "...best living, we could? Trying to provide...you know..."

Speaking to Goblyn, Kothos says, "The smell is a bit much, poor thing."

Leafiara asks, "Is... whatever's afflicting him beyond healers?"

Shinann nods at Leafiara.

Loamian says, "So senseless."

Taulramil says, "Hm."

Speaking encouragingly to a burnt human sailor, Kothos asks, "...the best you could?"

Goldstr asks, "Provide wha to who?"

Speaking to Goldstr, Dergoatean says, "I'm guessing just a safe life for his loved ones."

Speaking carefully to a burnt human sailor, Cruxophim warns, "You may have missed the mark a tad."

Cryheart asks, "What was your inventory on your ship?"

Cryheart asks, "Where did ye come from sailor?"

[General] Zireael asks, "We still under attack?"

The skin begins to blister and boil around the shrapnel wounds along the sailor as more green ichor seeps from his mouth.

Speaking to a burnt human sailor, Leafiara asks, "Where did you hail from?"

Speaking to Dergoatean, Goldstr says, "Ah good thinkin."

Speaking slowly to Cryheart, Goblyn says, "I do not think he is for the talking in this way..."

Opalina softly asks, "Does he need healing?"

Dergoatean says, "Well that's unnatural."

The sailor rasps, "...things were supposed to be better....better now..."

Taulramil says, "Any alchemist here."

Speaking to Opalina, Alvyara says, "He does, but he won't come close enough."

Kothos says, "I wonder if this has anything to do with the krolvin traps."

Taulramil says, "Collect some of that liquid."

Speaking calmly to Taulramil, Cruxophim informs, "Done."

Speaking cheerfully to a burnt human sailor, Goblyn coos, "They are maybe better now."

Cryheart says, "Aye...need to inspect that inchor."

Mother slowly steps out of the crowd of onlookers.

Guarrin whispers something to Yukito.

Speaking to a burnt human sailor, Leafiara says, "In case any more ships are coming, please... tell us where you came from so we can try to avoid more of this."

Mother moves through the crowd and over to the sailor.

Mother kneels down.

Speaking to Mother, Faerinn asks, "Why am I not surprised to see you here?"

Goldstr says, "Sounds like he be lookin to join Malluch ya knows da Blood son."

Dergoatean says, "Good thing the Star wasn't 15 minutes early."

Cryheart says, "A possibility."

Leafiara tentatively says, "I don't think I got that out of his story, no."

Leafiara adds, "Short as it was, and as a little as he can tell us in this condition..."

Cryheart says, "Tis also possible they were seeking refuge."

Mother places her hand behind the sailor's neck, holding his head closer to hers. She appears to whisper something to him and he nods. She slips a needle up into his neck and tucks it back into her cloak. She lowers the sailor's head back to the ground and he has gone quiet and still in death.

Mother stands up.

Speaking to Mother, Alvyara asks, "What did you do??"

Mother softly says, "I will not see my people suffer."

Speaking to Mother, Kothos says, "We could have tried to heal him."

Leafiara asks, "He was one of ours?"

Draught asks, "Those were Rook ships?"

Speaking to Mother, Taulramil asks, "He could not be saved could he, mother?"

Draught asks, "One of ours?"

Mother softly says, "In all ways, yes." [didn't catch this at the time, but I believe what she means is that they're one of "ours" in the sense of being the Landing's and in the sense of being a Rook]

Thrassus asks, "Ah, yes, and not give any information out as well eh?"

Mother nods at Leafiara.

Leafiara nods at Mother.

Speaking grimly to Kothos, Cruxophim speculates, "I suspect the malaise had him too far gone."

Leafiara says, "Hmm."

Taulramil says, "In all ways."

Speaking to Mother, Shinann says, "Then you should not be whispering to him... we do not know what you asked that he agreed to."

Speaking to Mother, Faerinn asks, "Did you show that caravan similiar mercy?"

Taulramil says, "Even his core was beyond help."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Kothos says, "Certainly true now."

Taulramil says, "His spirit..."

Mother softly says, "We did not harm that caravan."

Draught says, "Pirates fighting pirates it would seem."

Faerinn says, "That's a bold claim you have yet to prove."

Leafiara says, "Ah, yes, here we go with the wild accusatory questions."

Speaking serenely to Kothos, Cruxophim concludes, "Out of my hands now."

Speaking to Mother, Shinann says, "You frame what you just did as an act of kindness..."

Speaking to Mother, Kothos asks, "And Murdos' shop?"

Mother softly says, "Whoever harmed them, and wished to draw ire to the Brotherhood, is likely responsible for tonight."

Cryheart whispers something to Leafiara.

Uskeye says, "Well.. that's clear as mud."

Cryheart whispers something to Shinann.

Speaking to Mother, Leafiara asks, "Three Rook ships were on their way and were attacked, then?"

Mother softly says, "It is kindness Shinann. He asked for peace."

Alvyara asks, "And what was wrong with him, that he wouldn't accept a healer's touch?"

Xayd says, "In a state like that who could blame him."

Speaking to himself, Guarrin mutters, "Sometimes it is the only option."

Speaking to Mother, Goldstr says, "Please nae shows me kindness."

Shinann says, "We did not hear that. You whispered to him."

Speaking to Mother, Taulramil asks, "If what you say about his whole being, then yes it was a mercy, but how do you know he was beyond the healing power of some of our own?"

Shinann says, "I agree he was suffering and I thought of it myself, but I would have said it out loud."

Speaking to a dappled ocelot, Loamian says, "It's not polite to stare hungrily at others."

Leafiara offers, "You all do realize our healers did try to reach out, right?"

Mother softly says, "It is what he wished. He was suffering. It was more than the explosion that was killing him."

Speaking to Thrassus, Inck asks, "Find anything?"

Speaking impatiently to Mother, Alvyara asks, "What was it, then?"

Speaking to Mother, Faerinn asks, "Do you know what was on that sharpnel?"

Speaking to Mother, Shinann says, "So you said."

Speaking to Mother, Ormar asks, "What was it?"

Cruxophim whispers something to Goblyn.

Speaking to Mother, Loamian asks, "What... was that corruption coming from his wounds and his mouth?"

Speaking to Thrassus, Kothos asks, "Does it look similar to what you saw on Glaoveln?"

Speaking to Mother, Taulramil says, "And that is what my main concern is, what was it that did that to him."

Mother softly says, "We will begin to discover that together." [unclear who this was a response to, so I'll frame it as a response to everyone]

Speaking to Mother, Taulramil says, "What did your ships bring to our shores."

Speaking softly to Mother, Opalina says, "It was a peaceful finish."

Mother softly says, "Something released somehow during the explosion."

Ormar asks, "As in what?"

Mother softly says, "Tonight they attacked the Brotherhood."

Uskeye asks, "Something?"

Mother softly says, "...and some of our interests."

Inck asks, "Is it in the water now?"

Thrassus says, "It just looks like metal, we'd need someone with a laboratory to get much information out of it."

Loamian says, "Another taint upon the Landing."

Speaking to Thrassus, Faerinn says, "It was green ichor. It's in his body now."

Speaking to Inck, Taulramil says, "It something that cause the sailor to spew green oily ichor from his insides."

Speaking to Mother, Leafiara says, "Do you think Rone might have been behind this? I remember you calling her a thorn once, but I wasn't sure if that was a presumption on your part based on the previoius Rones or there was history there."

(Raelee reaches down and plucks another stray piece of shrapnel from the dead sailor's flesh.)

Thrassus says, "Which residue of could still linger on the shards."

Leafiara says, "And we did catch glimpses of Rone tonight."

Speaking curiously to Leafiara, Cruxophim inquires, "Her?"

Uskeye asks, "Wasn't Rone the one who pulled the sailor out of the water?"

Speaking offhandedly to Cruxophim, Leafiara says, "That's what Mother called her at the time."

Speaking to Cruxophim, Leafiara agrees, "But yes, we don't truly know..."

Faerinn says, "Casiphia, I mean, Rone did pull him out of the water, yes."

Speaking to Raelee, Loamian asks, "Anything obvious?"

Mother softly says, "Rone is a thorn, but no, this was brutality on another level."

Leafiara rubs her chin thoughtfully.

Speaking to Loamian, Raelee says, "Not immediately."

Leafiara nods understandingly at Mother.

Speaking to Mother, Shinann asks, "What do you know about it?"

Leafiara slowly says, "So yet another rogue faction."

Mother softly says, "A message sent."

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure just arrived!

Leafiara calls upon the local spirits and directs them through the area...

Leafiara gestures.

A sense of peace and calm settles over the area.

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure just arrived!

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure just arrived!

Loamian says, "Poor boy."

Mother nods to the dark hooded figure.

Guarrin whispers something to Cryheart.

Taulramil says, "Could someone be making it look like the landing is helping a people who have some magic that is unknown."

The dark hooded figures lean down and carefully carry away the corpse of the sailor.

Leafiara says, "...sad night."

Speaking to Mother, Loamian asks, "What was his name?"

Mother steps towards the edge of the beach, looking out at where the ships had exploded and blazed into the night.

Cruxophim whispers something to Goblyn.

Shinann says, "We will never know if he was going to leak something you did not want us to hear. You saw to that."

Speaking sadly to Leafiara, Taulramil says, "War is sad."

Goblyn keeps her distance while openly glowering at Mother.

(Raelee tilts her shard of metal to catch what little light there is, as she gazes at it ponderously.)

Bbee asks, "What is happening, I have spent most of my night flat on my bback?"

Chandrellia softly exclaims, "What in the Rift happened!"

Speaking thoughtfully to Taulramil, Leafiara says, "More like civil war, perhaps... but it depends whether these thugs were among our citizens."

Mother softly says, "If it is the will and reach of the Brotherhood they wish to test, they will regret such a thing."

Alvyara whispers something to Kothos.

Mother nods.

Speaking to Taulramil, Leafiara says, "It seemed like they were."

[General] Cryheart thinks, "It has slowed down now."

Speaking to Shinann, Uskeye says, "I think that sailor was in too much agony to be of any use to us."

Speaking to Bbee, Thrassus says, "It seems the local criminal group has some competition now."

Mother slips back into the crowd and disappears into the darkness of the night.

Discussion Afterward

Bbee says, "No thanks."

Taulramil says, "What did you have on your ship that made someone attack them for it."

Inck says, "Pfft."

Speaking to Uskeye, Loamian asks, "Use?"

Taulramil says, "She dissapeared like that."

Alvyara exclaims, "What utter nonsense!"

Ormar says, "She is gone."

Leafiara notes, "She usually leaves so quickly..."

Uskeye says, "Poorly worded."

Leafiara says, "Ah, well."

Goblyn yells, "You will have a not very nice night, Mother!"

Inck says, "What a tease."

Cryheart says, "Just what we needed..a bloody civil war."

Uskeye says, "He was in pain. I don't think he could have provided much information."

Speaking to Goblyn, Kothos says, "You should, though."

Speaking dubiously to Cryheart, Cruxophim ventures, "Another one?"

Speaking dryly to Cryheart, Raelee says, "... bloody indeed."

Faerinn says, "Rook civil war...wonderful."

Thrassus says, "I don't know if it could be called a civil war."

Inck asks, "Where'd they take the corpse?"

Cryheart grins at Cruxophim.

Kothos says, "Good night, gorgeous."

Thrassus says, "Perhaps a crime war."

Cryheart says, "Ye like the blood."

The voice of Goblyn shyly exclaims, "I am -not- this thing!"

Cruxophim amusedly states, "Always something."

Loamian resignedly says, "That much is true."

Speaking to Uskeye, Taulramil says, "From what the woman mentioned he was beyond any help, which I take as something was eating him or in him that is evil and they have broght it here."

Uskeye says, "Meant no disprespect to the dead, whether they were friend or foe."

Uskeye says, "Let's hope we don't see more of THAT particular phenomenon."

Taulramil says, "I'd get that stuff to your scholors."

Alvyara says, "There'll be no end to trouble, it seems."

Speaking to Uskeye, Leafiara says, "No, just the opposite--this seems only the beginning."

Uskeye says, "Always something, it seems."

Alvyara says, "Well, staying up and waiting for more isn't going to do me any good."

Speaking to Uskeye, Loamian says, "Sorry to get bristly, it's been a long, frustrating night."

Speaking to Leafiara, Randosa says, "And it was quite a way to start things..."

Cryheart asks, "Back to town, Moot Hall?"

Uskeye says, "Agreed."

Leafiara nods absently at Cryheart.

Cryheart says, "Moving out."

Taulramil says, "See what that ichor is, elemental or divine in origin."

[travel]

[Town Square, East]

Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions. Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night. You also see a sinuous bone white serpent, a large grey-headed hawk and a large purple wooden barrel.

Chandrellia softly asks, "So what happened?"

Inck says, "Well, that was interesting."

Speaking to Leafiara, Shinann says, "I am disappointed."

Inck asks, "Is the gemshop alright?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "The short of it is that we don't know yet."

Shinann just went north.

Cryheart says, "A tit for tat, I'd think."

Leafiara slowly says, "And *she* always leaves so quickly too."

Stormicore asks, "Does it smell like a kitten in over here?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Leafiara asks, "What was the tat?"

Cryheart says, "The followers lost a caravan...and the Rooks lost ships."

Uskeye says, "Nothing good will come of this."

Thrassus says, "A new group of criminals are apparently moving in to take the Rook's territory."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Bbee says, "It was an illusion, a mass figment of our imaginations."

Speaking to Cryheart, Leafiara says, "But the knaves were the same ones clearing off the Blood Son's markings."

Chandrellia softly says, "I was tending to things at my house when I heard the commotion but was unable to arrive in time it seems."

Speaking to Leafiara, Ormar says, "Aye."

Cryheart asks, "So why did they attack?"

Leafiara says, "That is the question."

Leafiara says, "I can't make sense of it."

Speaking to Thrassus, Goldstr says, "Mayhaps."

Draught says, "One of several questions."

Speaking to Cryheart, Randosa asks, "Frustration, perhaps?"

Cryheart asks, "So the thugs could be stirring up the trouble?"

Ormar asks, "It's been quiet, no?"

Chandrellia softly says, "No it's more than just frustration."

Uskeye says, "They obviously had advance knowledge."

Ormar asks, "And suddenly attacks?"

Bbee asks, "The bbloocd they cleaned up stained their souls?"

Leafiara asks, "The Rooks opposed Malluch, but these thugs who *also* opposed Malluch are after them, specifically?"

Cryheart says, "Divide and conquer."

Leafiara says, "It doesn't line up."

Speaking softly to Bbee, Chandrellia says, "That could be possibile."

Goldstr says, "I was fightin Thugs and Knaves at da Sea Gates."

Cryheart asks, "So these thugs and knaves are a separate group perhaps?"

Uskeye says, "Different factions of thieves waging a turf war, maybe? Who knows."

Leafiara says, "It does seem so, but..."

Cryheart asks, "Stirring up trouble between the followers and Rooks?"

Ormar says, "Still does not explain why."

Leafiara says, "I just can't understand what they're after. At least yet."

Chandrellia softly asks, "Wouldn't Mother have some knowledge of these persons through spies?"

Uskeye says, "Mother doesn't seem particularly free with her information...."

Chandrellia softly says, "I mean if they are waging a turf war."

Goldstr says, "We shoulds be a knowin soons enuf."

Ormar says, "Mother is not forthcoming."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "That's a curiosity too. She usually knows what's going on in town, but these thugs seemed like our own citizens and she doesn't seem to know this time."

Cryheart says, "Well... I think I need some rest...so I can digest it all."

Bbee asks, "I think the bblood they cleaned up stained their souls?"

Stormicore says, "Maybe her son was the enemy and she killed him for it."

Speaking to Leafiara, Uskeye asks, "Can we assume she's allied with us, or is that pushing it too far?"

Speaking to Uskeye, Leafiara asks, "In what sense?"

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Sorry I missed the show."

Uskeye asks, "Do you think Mother is acting for our benefit?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Oh, it's okay. I.. am quite sure there'll be more."

The flower girl nudges you and whispers, "These are magical flowers!"

Goldstr says, "I go sleep on dis. Fare well folks."

Speaking to Uskeye, Leafiara says, "That would still need more clarification before I could give that a yes or no."

Speaking softly to a pretty flower girl, Chandrellia says, "Yes I know they are magical flowers dear."

Speaking to Uskeye, Thrassus says, "No, it's always been for their crime organization's benefit."

Uskeye says, "Enigmatic, she be. I understand."

Speaking to Uskeye, Thrassus says, "They just like to swathe it in floral-sounding nonsense."

Chandrellia softly says, "I heard we have ships in the bay or had..."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "That's the claim, yes... apparently Rook ships."

Bbee asks, "Yay, whose ship blew up?"

Uskeye says, "A pleasure to meet you again, Madame Mayor. Looks like I came back to the landing just in time for fun."

Speaking wryly to Uskeye, Leafiara says, "Well, something like that, anyway. Welcome back."

Chandrellia softly asks, "So there were ships bound for our bay with Rooks but Mother has no idea what is going on?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Right, she's unclear on the identity of the attackers."

Leafiara says, "Or motives."

Leafiara adds, "As are the rest of us."

Thrassus says, "The ships were carrying the Rook's illicit cargo."

Delyorik says, "Aww..."

Leafiara says, "We can't know that."

Bbee asks, "Perhaps there is some flotsam floating up on the beaches?"

Thrassus says, "That's what they do, though."

Chandrellia softly asks, "Do we have an itinerary of the ships' cargo?"

Thrassus says, "Smuggle illegal goods."

Speaking to Bbee, Leafiara says, "Not that any of us could see, while looking around all night."

Chandrellia softly says, "And Mother wasn't expecting any ships? Oh wait... she left in a hurry."

Speaking to Leafiara, Randosa asks, "I didn't get a good look. Did anyone see what happened to the ships?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "She was expecting the ships."

Bbee says, "Just a thought."

Thrassus says, "They exploded from devices attached to the side, from what I saw."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia asks, "Wouldn't the harbor master know what ships were pulling into dock with what cargo?"

Bbee asks, "Strapped to the side?"

Thrassus says, "I noticed flashes of light on the sides of the vessels before they went to pieces."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Not necessarily. The militia usually inspects upon arrival."

Thrassus says, "Likely something like those prisms or orbs."

Bbee asks, "Faulty cannons?"

Speaking softly to Bbee, Chandrellia says, "I would hope they wouldn't fire cannons onto our streets with innocents here."

Leafiara says, "Even the prisms... they'd need quite a supply to blow up three ships like that."

Leafiara clarifies, "There was no cannon fire."

Bbee says, "They tried to burn us down."

Speaking to Leafiarar, Randosa says, "Not only that, but enough for us all to feel it on the docks."

Thrassus asks, "It could be a new sort of device, perhaps?"

Speaking softly to Bbee, Chandrellia says, "Only some and not those in the ships."

Speaking to Thrassus, Leafiara says, "Very possible."

Bbee says, "Oh very well."

Thrassus says, "The knowledge of such things seem to be spreading amongst the less savory groups of the world."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Perhaps it's time to have a serious sit down with Mother Madam Mayor."

Bbee says, "Maybe they hit a mine."

Leafiara says, "Knowledge and resources are different things, though. To regularly create such devices..."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara asks, "Regarding?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara adds, "I mean, good luck regardless--she's not exactly open for regular meetings."

Chandrellia softly says, "What we can do to try and avoid something like this again, so mayhaps if she is expecting ships we can help guard the docks a bit closer."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "The ships never even made it to the docks, that's the thing."

Leafiara says, "They exploded while still out at sea."

Chandrellia softly says, "Yes they had to have others already in the water."

Bbee says, "Yay, they hit mines or something."

Speaking softly to Bbee, Chandrellia says, "I would tend to believe that if the flashes weren't seen above the water as it's been stated."

Bbee says, "Floating mines."

Speaking softly to Bbee, Chandrellia says, "According to Thrassus the devices were attached to the sides of the ships when they exploded. It doesn't make sense."

Randosa asks, "If that was the case, wouldn't the seas absorb most of the blast?"

Randosa says, "It was enough to knock many of us over."

Speaking softly to Randosa, Chandrellia says, "No, explosions radiate up and out."

Bbee says, "Maybe they were laying the mines and had a bboo bboo."

Leafiara admits, "I didn't get an especially clear view, but I'll check in with what others saw."

Leafiara says, "It's true there's something inexplicable about how the ships blew up if it wasn't a setup."

Speaking softly to Randosa, Chandrellia says, "And depending what was on those ships could also determine the size of a blast."

Leafiara says, "On the other hand, if it was a setup, that too is inexplicable since we saw people killed."

Leafiara says, "Staging blowing up one's own ships, to pin something on an unknown faction... I can't say I haven't seen stranger things, but it would be up there."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia asks, "How many of our citizens were lost do we know?"

Bbee asks, "Perhaps it just goes to prove that our enemy is not infallible?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara confesses, "We don't know if any of them truly were."

Leafiara says, "No, the survivors made it to shore near Voln and were killed off."

Leafiara says, "But their identity is unclear."

A young Hendoran squire arrives, nervously whispers something to Raelee, then walks off.

Leafiara says, "Mother claims they're the Brotherhood's."

Raelee glances around the area.

Leafiara says, "But consider, we're speculating about the possibility of who's staging what, if anything."

Speaking softly to Raelee, Chandrellia asks, "Everything ok?"

Chandrellia concernedly says, "You seem, at odds."

Speaking to Leafiara, Randosa asks, "Do you think you could have someone gather up the debris that made it ashore?"

Bbee says, "I suggested that."

Leafiara says, "Sure, I'll do that. Though, I will say I already did that last time with the caravan attack and we weren't able to find anything."

Raelee slowly says, "... quite fine..."

Leafiara adds, "And the same factions seem to be involved again."

Bbee says, "They poo pooed it."

Speaking offhandedly to Chandrellia, Leafiara asks, "In any case, what did you want a meeting about?"

Leafiara says, "I didn't mean to forget your question from a while back."

Chandrellia softly asks, "What building besides the Gemshop get attacked?"

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "That was the only building, though they did run through the streets attacking people too."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Just to maybe talk about added security at the docks, if ships are being targeted then there is a reason."

Bbee says, "They were over by the temple too."

Randosa says, "I saw some by the park, too."

Leafiara says, "Where they were is one thing, but they only set fire to the gem shop."

Leafiara adds, "That I know of."

Chandrellia softly says, "Yes but Murdos's building was the only attacked."

Bbee says, "They robbed the gemshop."

Thrassus says, "And looted."

Leafiara says, "Interesting..."

Chandrellia softly says, "And it was his son they claimed to be this great healer, and avoided jail time."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "I dont think it was as random as they are trying to make it look."

Bbee asks, "Perhaps it was all done to rob the gemshop?"

Leafiara says, "Previously I was considering the possibility that the prism attacks and hired mercenaries could have been a frame job by Malluch..."

Leafiara says, "Since he'd have the funding to do such a thing."

Leafiara says, "But looking at it now, that seems less likely."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Unless."

Leafiara says, "The looting of Murdos's shop does, though, seem a good way to continue to fund operations."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "He is trying to get Thaddy to look away from his dad in the regards of his escape."

Speaking tentatively to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Maybe, but we're already potentially on the verge of removing Thadston."

Bbee says, "Wonder if there was something in the backroom that was of interest to them."

Chandrellia softly says, "On the verge is one thing until it's done, Thadston still retains his power, and Malluch has no idea what we are doing."

Chandrellia softly says, "Just trying to open up more sides of the box I guess."

Chandrellia softly says, "Look at things from every angle."

Leafiara muses, "Fair enough."

Bbee says, "Me too."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "The last thing I want is to put more stress on you as Mayor."

Speaking curiously to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Stress? Not at all, I like thinking through these things."

Chandrellia softly asks, "But if you have more sides to look at and around maybe it will be easier to see?"

Speaking amusedly to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Probably harder, if anything, but I think I get what you're saying."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "More things to consider, but also more likelihood of finding the truth. Something like that."

Chandrellia softly says, "Yes exactly."

Bbee says, "Well I am going to go crawl in a hole and dream about all this, I get my bbest insights when sleeping."

Chandrellia softly says, "And as we look into all the angle we can close each side of the box one at a time until we have what are looking for trappd within."

Speaking amiably to Bbee, Leafiara says, "Fair enough, that happens with many."

Raelee's hands fade to complete transparency as she intones a spell...

Raelee gestures.

Raelee suddenly disappears.

Leafiara amusedly says, "And there goes the Magister."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Well... much to contemplate, I suppose."

Chandrellia softly says, "Well I am sure you have a lot of paper to get done."
