Subject: Next Duskruin Run and Limited Prize Updates

Hey everyone, it's been a hectic week back. When you have 20+ staff members at SimuCon, it's really tough to get back into swing of things right away. First thing I want to talk about are the dates. In order to refresh some inventory, we're going to need to look at September 4th as the next run date. Duskruin stays open until the following Sunday, so it will be open until the 13th at 9pm ET.

The next thing I want to talk about are the limited prizes. The way we handled it last run were good on paper, but seeing how many spell knowledge enhancives went out creates some worries for gear down the road. Yes, a lot of time, effort, and money goes into getting 300,000 bloodscrip. There is no doubt about anything like that. We just need to weigh all the issues properly.

In Platinum, we had an auction and a game of White Urgh (Brutality, Dirty Santa, etc). In Prime, I think we'll likely take two routes. We'll put the certificates on sale at the start of the event in a limited quantity. When they are gone, they are gone. At the end of the event, we'll have an auction for each certificate being offered. This isn't set in stone, but it's something I've discussed with the senior staff on several nights already.

The next run will have the coin hand and blink weapon certificate for sure. I'll tell you what the other 2 will be soon.

>>Will lower tier items remain the same? Or will those be refreshed a bit too?

Inventory refreshing is what takes a lot of the time. Changing items, boosting them, etc is what puts us weeks to months out between runs. We can do it, but for the most part, it's only a small handful of staff working on it, which is a lot of time. One of those people being me.

>>Also Wyrom.. since you plan to release limited items at the start, possible to give us a total of how much scrip is still wandering around in the lands?

Close to 2 million spread out and/or redeemed by hundreds of characters. It will grow increasingly hard to track where they are in physical bloodscrip by next run. If people redeem, I can track a lot easier.

>>Would you reconsider changing the dates?

If we keep the dates, there will have to be no new items for sale, maybe only 1 new certificate, and no new updates. So if you want Duskruin like last run, then that's what can come out the 21st. The next run will be the last run until the end of the year. So if people really want next weekend, that's what you're looking at.

>>So with less than a week to go, the dates are changing, and it's getting moved into the middle of a holiday weekend?

Duskruin runs two weekends, hopefully that helps. Oddly enough, school around here starts before Labor Day, so there are no vacations in my future. But I didn't realize people even did anything for Labor Day other than laze around and/or BBQ.

>>Pretty sure DR runs itself, it's only the prizes that are an issue.

Duskruin needs about one or two GMs watching over it while it's running. It's mostly on autopilot after the first night, but there are a lot of little things that happen that require someone. That person is usually me. But inventory also takes time to design, build, QC, and shop.

>>What about putting out a certificate a day for five days or something?

The next run will not be unlimited supplies of certificates. That's why it will likely be a number of limited for sale, and then 1 for auction (of each that are out there).

>>I'm not sure why you are bringing back the coin and blink cert. Clearly it was overpriced and no one purchased it.

Neither were really overpriced, but with the spell knowledge not too far from your reach by the time you got to a coin hand, it was worth going the extra 50k. That was the feedback I received from 6 individuals who all grabbed spell knowledge. The blink certificate will likely be altered to work with your own weapon for next run, but the price will be going up.

>>The auction that was done in plat was for bloodscrip, not silvers.

Correct. It would be bloodscrip. Due to our raffle system not being able to use bloodscrip, raffles would be out.

>>Re: Why Limit?

When the unlimited quantity certificates was first brainstormed, it was with an understanding with how many bloodscrip were out in the game currently. I monitored a lot of what was gained, what was hoarded, and what was being sold. So I was like, "Okay, we got a few people who could grab these, we're probably looking at 1 of each." Well, everyone argued for them being available afterward too because it only rewarded people who saved (even after I mentioned to save, but hey, what do I know). That's where it changed big time, because we could earn tons and tons if you had the time and resources to do so.

I didn't know what to expect, so I rolled the dice with the idea. That resulted in 14 spell knowledge enhancives and 3 RotFlares. That number is pretty high, but putting it into a high-end event perspective, that's about right. If we ran 4 CCFs and offered 3 spell knowledge each run, that's 12, so it's about the same. Duskruin is probably LESS Monty Haul than a CCF really.

There is a lot to think of when it comes to pushing out a lot of items into the game. Sadly, it's sort of a touch and go method right now. We'll find a balance, you can trust me there. It took 3 tries with making the arena right. I also realize I need to slow down the sewers some to make the time more in sync with the arena (by half). Just hard to do that without just giving you hard RT. That's boring.

Quick note before I hit post. I get a few emails after I post a long responses saying I appear to take things too personal. I'm definitely not. I'm just offering thorough communication on the subject. If I come off as being defensive to any responses, you're reading it with the wrong tone.

Eh, after posting, I'll see what I can have ready by this coming weekend. If you guys took time off and made plans around it, I should try to keep the dates solid. Ya'll hardcore about this, yo! Just putting it out there though, this will be the last run until the end of the year.

I'm going to see what all I can pull together. It won't be as complete as I want, but we'll honor the dates. It's never my intention to screw anyone. Considering the event is 10 days long, I didn't think pushing it back would be as big as a deal, since there is nothing scheduled or planned for the event. But hearing people took time off, I don't want to jeopardize life. I should have announced it during SimuCon when it was discussed with the players there.

So quickly, give me MUST HAVE mid-range items you'd like to see. As a point of reference, heavy padded, weighted, sighted, higher enchant, and things super special isn't mid-range. So anything too far off probably won't happen. Somewhat or decent padding, weighting, and sighting I could see though.

Yeah, I really think the idea of mid-range, even with the bloodscrip cost, is a little off base for me on a lot of things being suggested. I'd consider anything over 10000 bloodscrip to be over mid-range. And while I understand those that have a lot would consider some things like DCP or SCW to be super lower end, I know that's the range that was being requested for last run.

I don't want to disappoint everyone who wants certain things, but I realize I'm going to with the list of items some of you are suggesting.

I'll be announcing what the big ticket items are before that sale begins. We've also updated a lot of inventory. Not a massive amount, but we've added some more 5x equipment, as well as some of the somewhat and decently levels of padding and weighting that were desired. I'll try to add a few other desired items tonight as well.

Subject: Loot in the Arena/Sewers

I didn't mention this last run, but figured I would this run. The loot you win in the arena or find in the sewers no longer will be restricted to your level. It's always a bit random (like it has always been), but I just wanted you all to know that. I just cleaned up the logic before this run though (nothing mechanically changed from last run). Winning an arena match always has the best chances of better outcomes. Nothing is guaranteed though.

I'm pleased to announce that if you accidentally purchase slips instead of tokens, or tokens instead of slips, you can now get into either area no matter what. The NPC will say something different, but basically, the entrances will now take tokens OR slips for the arena and sewers.

<<Why was it set up this way instead of just treating bloodscrip like notes?>>

Couple of reasons.

1. It was intended to not be an encumbrance issue.

2. Limits on trading.

So reason one is fairly self explanatory. We were being nice.

Number two might be less so. Basically, some of these currencies we might not want traded. Some might be redeemed as soon as you pick them up. So when setting up shops to take tickets, I went with the redeemed version since it would be mandatory for some types. Double the work for no reason is not my style.

Over the course of the weekend, we'll be having HAPPY HOUR releases in the arena (and only the arena). During these times, you will earn a new mysterious item in your prize package, a wrotwood chest! It will take the place of the promissory note. Later this year, you'll get to unlock its secret! All will be revealed! Be sure to collect quite a few of them, they might be useful in the near future!

The first HAPPY HOUR begins at 10pm ET tonight. There will be several opportunities over the weekend to collect more!

There were a few RP elements involved with Duskruin. Watching other players, sitting and listening to the tavern NPC, and some background story with traveling there. This event was an eye-opener in terms of what some of you want when it comes to buying in at the level you want to earn. But we'll always focus on our RP venues.

Yeah, sorry, I should have been more clear. It's 1 - 25, 26 - 50, 51 - 75, 76 - 100. You're not getting a level 100 difficulty just because you're in that grouping. Each creature is scaled to your level, and progressively gets harder. All those level ranges do is determine the health of the creature. Characters under level 10 have a minor handicap to difficulty in general.

Subject: Arena Hazards and Timing of Creatures

Okay, so got to the bottom of this one. It's an interesting one. The routine I've coded in that protects you from being hit by a hazard once a creature enters is now what causes the creature to be able to do this. Once a hazard has been either dodged or inflicted, the hazard resets in 4 seconds. The moment it resets, the creature can pull it off again, which is instantaneous. You would not even have a millisecond to respond, since the routine fires all at once. Prior to me making it protect you on a fresh creature, you'd have a chance to dodge. But now that the creature got hit, the gloves are off.

I'm going to see what I can do, but there might very well be nothing I can do without reverting it to a fresh creature killing you instantly, which I won't be doing.

Subject: Disconnects and No Packages

Just wanted to put out an official post. If you complete an arena match and don't die, you should always have a package at the end. If you don't, it's due to a rare screamer with prize creation. The prize isn't ever anything good, so it's not like you're losing out on a urglaes claidhmore or something (it's a temp resistance item). It's under 1% of all prizes generated. If this happens to you, email me, I'll refund you a slip, or give you a flat bloodscrip amount to compensate you for your troubles.

If you get disconnected in the arena, again, email me. I'll refund you a slip. I have a preventative measure ready to be deployed, but it will likely need to be tested some before I can make it live.

If you're posted about any of these recently, please email me so I can get with you and get you back in good standings.

Sewers

Subject: A proposal for the sewers

I realize the sewers are a controversial subject, since you can move much faster to gain bloodscrip. From a pricing standpoint, I wanted the arena to be twice as effective as the sewers, and last run I hit that mark. That means in order to earn as much as you can in the arena, it would cost you twice as much in the sewers. Money is a very big factor here. I'm contemplated what to do to slow down the sewers over and over. I feel hard roundtime is the wrong way to go. When I added the washout effect, I had emails, posts, and messages on how awful that was, so I dropped it down to a "fumble" type search. The only real measure that is feasible is a cooldown, and that is going to come with some serious ramifications. It's not something I have the time to deal with right now, and it's going to need to be something that will get deliberated on next time.

Scripting, by itself, is allowed in GS. If it wasn't, we'd also have to enforce no third-party overlays like Lich. The people in the sewers are there or have really good ways to make sure they can be there. I'm a no nonsense staff member when it comes to script checks. I don't worry about if I was clear on my check because I'm usually pretty upfront. You miss one of my checks, you're not there. As a big time warning though, you and ALL OF YOUR LINKED ACCOUNTS get their bloodscrip confiscated and you become banned from the sewers for 30 days. That means if you transferred a character to someone else, you're still responsible for whoever takes control of that character. Any history follows that character. You can ride, but you can't hide, etc etc. But again, everyone has been pretty good at being at the keys when I check.

In the glass case you see a crescent-shaped dark golvern cleaver, a sleek rolaren palache with a carved lor hilt, a silver-runed blackened vultite gladius, an imflass katana with interlocked steel rings along the hilt, a serpentine-hilted dark rolaren falx and a golvern basilard with an obsidian-inlaid hilt.

These are fully unlocked MistBlades.

I also added this:

a dark leather-hilted mithril knife

...which is not unlocked.

Enjoy!

Oh, and I added another 2H to the non-unlocked ones. I realized I hadn't added one in there, so now there's also a black imflass doloire, 4x heat flares.

So - the katana is standard weighting, +22. It's also a bit more expensive than the others, at 5k scrip.

You're all welcome!

But I added some polished vultite haubergeon (asg 15) with vacuum flares.

In addition, all items in the shop are now 5x, and script prices were adjusted accordingly.

I had wanted to do an update to Skyfire, but there just was not time with reopening to quickly, so next time my pretties!

Subject: The Limited Items

We're going to change the angle of how we do this high-end item list. There is no way I can limit item sales in a reasonable way to make all parties happy. I toss them on first, it rewards those that saved, I toss them on last, it opens the playing field to anyone with the time and money. The original scope was 3 certificates this time around, limited to 2 to 5 certificates total, but we're completely changing gears. I realize this is going to be pretty drastic. But due to this, we're going to offer some once in a (Elanthian) life time item opportunities.

We are going to be offering 13 limited items/services this time around. We are offering one of each of the following:

Item or Service Notes
Blink Weapon To be added to your own weapon, some restrictions may apply.
Splitter Weapon To be added to your own weapon, some restrictions may apply.
Bandolier Weapon Create a new bandolier with a newly created weapon of your choice, some restrictions may apply.
Undead Bane To be added to your weapon, cannot have a bane already.
Coin Hand Creation of a new coin hand from any Elanthian race that has a hand.
Cross-Realm Transportation Pretty self explanatory.
A Trio of Enchanting Potions To create 8x, 9x, and 10x enchants.
Additional Weighting An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points.
Additional Padding An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points.
Additional Sighting An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points.
Additional TD An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points.
Additional Defender An addition 10 points, nothing over 40 points. Cannot offset the Zelnorn defender properties.
Pet Phoenix The one that follows you around, attuned to the wearer, needs to be manually set up.

These will all be auctioned for bloodscrip on the last Sunday. Restricted to 1 per account and 1 service per item. You will need to have all the bloodscrip redeemed at the end of each auction. No exchanges of bloodscrip after the auction will be allowed. Leaving the room will disqualify you. Not having the bloodscrip redeemed shortly after the auction will also disqualify you. If you are disqualified, the person with the next highest bid will win by default. Same rules apply.

Quick note on the bandolier weapon. The weapon is freshly made, not your own weapon. I don't want you going bananas over that. I said create a new one, but I realize it's not clear after re-reading it.

Also, these aren't certificates, these are services that need to be redeemed Sunday night.

>>Wyrom, you are good at putting out a selection of nifty items so that everyone has something to drool over. Bravo!

My list wasn't as good, to be honest. The list before you is from a last chance powwow with GMs Coase, Estild, and Finros. We went back and forth on some ideas right up to the time I posted.

>>My dream weapon would be blink+rot.

Blink+Rot is fine. You could be living the dream.

>>Could you discuss the some restrictions which may apply?

It's kind of like CCF, it's not so much that there is a list of issues, it's just in case something ridiculous exists out that that won't work. For splitters, the weapon needs to be TWC safe, so that's one thing there.

>>How is it just when I think I don't want any of the high end prizes Wyrom always manages to find something I to tempt me with? Stop readin my mind!

You want the pet phoenix, doncha!?

>>I think you've done a great job, of making it so no one person is going to get everything, while giving a nice selection and a fair distribution method. Kudos to you and thanks again, for the hard work and amazing job.

I realize this format is not going to appeal to everyone. If something like this is going to leave a bad taste in your mouth or lead to problems with your gaming experience, I highly recommend avoiding the gear grind here. The point is still fun.

We'll keep trying different formats. Given the schedule changes though, we had to make some tough calls under the gun. We're not just selling items or services. I realize some may lose sight of that. But if that were the case, we'd not limit anything. We'd blow down the doors of game balance. As much as you may think keeping things in an unlimited fashion would be okay, the game would probably suffer a death blow. Maybe not from this, but for the longevity of the game. I also realize we could have added a lot of other things, swap some things, scrap other. The list would go on and on.

I don't want any of you to sit on a pile of bloodscrip. This isn't a cash grab, more a scrip sink. I'm also exploring some options here. Remember, Ebon Gate is around the corner, we have some awesome stuff again this year.

Adding services will not be something we venture down too often. It will be preserved to the higher end stuff. The certificates for lower tier stuff isn't something I foresee doing.

I've added several new bases of greater elemental flares (gloves, flamberge, handaxe, war hammer, awl-pike, and runestaff - 20000 bloodscrip).

I've added several bases of 5x DCP armors [7 points] (full leathers, double leathers, leather breastplate, brigandine, augmented chain, and metal breastplate - 3000 bloodscrip).

I've added back the fully unlocked pirate bandolier with the inviso-sphere feature AND have inviso-spheres for sale. I decreased the price from 12500 to 10000.

I've added a fully unlocked pelt bag that bundles (5000 bloodscrip).

I've added 2 new multi-cast wands (303, 310, 313 1x and 602, 104, 105, 207, 1x - both 10000 bloodscrip).

I've upped all of Ode To Resistance have been upped to 5x (2500 bloodscrip).

Haliste added new unlocked Fana wares (everything in the case - 2500/5000 bloodscrip).

Valyrka added the aug chain and upped all her flaring items to 5x (2500 bloodscrip).

The NerveStaff that was described glowbark but was really lor has been fixed to really be glowbark.

I think that's all our updates. I realize we didn't hit a lot of the 10k to 50k like asked, but we hustled.

It's likely going to be the same one we did at SimuCon. You initially set it between 2 realms and can go back and forth between them. If we don't use that one, we'll announce it before Sunday.

>>Any chance of adding new or bringing back some of those mid level 20-60k items as the week progresses, as opposed to having everything done and set in stone when the grounds open later today?

Adding old shops after we're live is not something we can do really. The shop inventory is where we're at right now. The 3-slot fusion armors will not be back at Duskruin. The cloaks we might be able to do in a future run.

>>I'd love to see the 6x/6x nervestaff back

It never left. It's been there since the second run. Was there last run. And it's there this run.

>>Awl-pike? Get real, who's gonna spend 20k scrip for that? Why not just make it a lance?

Because it was requested as an awl-pike. Plus, a lance would not be the same price.

>>For Mar and Scar: Can we get a definitive listing of which items have which flares? Some seem obvious, some I have no clue on.

a pair of vruul hide gloves charred with fiery runes (+30) Fire
a blued zorchar flamberge banded down the blade in solid white - (+30) Lightning
a square-headed imflass hammerbeak fluted with veniom - (+27) Air/Steam
a circular imflass moon axe fluted with veniom - (+27) Air/Steam
a gornar-tipped ranseur adorned with uncut gemstones (+30) Earth/Vibe
a gnarled ironwood runestaff capped with a sphere of ur-barath (+30) Gravity/Vacuum
a jagged-edged blue rhimar warblade flecked with silver inclusions (+30) Ice
a jagged-edged crimson drakar warblade streaked with gold flecks (+30) Fire
an ur-barath-runed pike with a faenor spearhead (+28) Gravity/Vacuum [NEW]
a tri-headed vaalorn spikestar with a heavy rhimar chain (+28) Ice [NEW]

Also, added a hunk of red ur-barath in the shop. This is just alter fodder to use at a merchant to adorn your item with ur-barath. It can't be the primary material, unless a small little trinket. This is one of the new materials we released during HSN.

The auction will take place around 5pm ET inside the Viridian Coil (exact room is The Viridian Coil, Tavern). Order of items will not be discussed prior to the auction to prevent collusion. All wins need to be redeemed after the auction. If for some reason we can't work out the details at that time, I'll give you some time to come up with a second plan.

I want to try to ease some issues that are arising with the auction and go over everything one more time.

The auction is on Sunday, 8/30, at 5pm ET. That leaves you a few hours to shop. This is the last run of Duskruin for awhile. The next time it's available, I'm hoping to have a new activity that is a mix of the arena and sewers. This isn't confirmed, it's my hope. Moving forward, I'd like to get some more character customization services for the limited stuff. We're pounding the high-end service into the ground lately, and I do want to give it a little break. That's not me saying you're not going to see really cool services or items again. You will. I say all this in this thread because I want you to know the future of your bloodscrip and how to spend them.

Once you enter the auction area, the Viridian Coil and the auction begins, you'll not be able to leave. There will be no passing items around. You must have all your bloodscrip on your character that wins the auction, should you bid. They do not need to be redeemed, but you need to have them. After you win an auction, you are required to stay in the room. You cannot pass your unused bloodscrip off to anyone else. All auctioned services and items must be redeemed after the auction has concluded, so please have your first idea ready to go. If we run into an issue where I can't work with you right on the spot, you will have time after Duskruin closes to get things together. The order of the auction will not be disclosed.

Each item up for auction has a reserve bid before we'll let it go. Don't worry, the reserves aren't brutal. If I have to reveal the reserve, I'll announce the buyout price. I realize there are fears and worries of collusion. I know auctions favor people who have the time and money. But we're working on making this as streamlined as we can for you. Since these things take so much planning, we may refine it again if we ever go down this route.

Subject: The Limited Items - The bandolier

>>Is the weapon bandolier limited to certain weapons or can any weapon be chosen?

Needs to be one of the hurling weapon bases. So you can choose from dagger, handaxe, spear, war hammer, dart, chakram, discus, net, bola, and javelin.

>>What will the enchant be on the weapon bandolier? Will it have flares? Do we choose the flares? What flares can be choosen? If we choose no flares can it be blessed? What is your favorite color?

Enchant and ability will go toward an allotment you have to choose from. So it can be 5x and a common flare (fire, ice, lightning, and impact), or 4x and an uncommon flare (unbalance, disruption, crush, slash, puncture, and disintegration) or 5 points of weighting. Being able to bless a bandolier weapon INSIDE the bandolier is a bug and will eventually get fixed (just like the unlimited arrow quivers), but you could technically leave it blessible and bless it once in hand.

When I was kid, my favorite color was orange. But as I got older, I started to like muted and earth tones. Dark green, grey, brown, stuff like that.

Rolfard already stated what I have in another post. You cannot leave the room or pass bloodscrip off once you've entered the auction. In fact, I will be closing off the exits for the duration of the event. You will be locked in for the auction. You can still arrive late, but you cannot leave. If the auction has already been concluded to be in the control of 5 or 9 people, then they have a lot more time and money than I can fathom here. I realize it's been awhile since we've had an official auction, but I'd try not to get into a fixed mindset of it being game over already.

To touch on another thread, the good thing about bloodscrip, compared to silver, is it's a new currency. One that doesn't have 25 years of accumulation in game. Yes, some people have a decent headstart. Some people have a lot more time and money to earn more than others. But it's better than going against Ciston or Speaker back in the day. Yeah, I name dropped. No, I'm not bitter about losing out in 1997 still... maybe.

I would prefer the bloodscrip be redeemed before, but Durakar already hit on my concerns that I do not want anyone being trapped with thousands of dollars worth of bloodscrip to a character. For game balance concerns, we have decided that removing bloodscrip from your character is not a direction we want to go, but we would offer it as a choice with physical copies. Not all scrips will be treated equally though. Some quests or events will lock your character to having the scrips automatically added.

Some small fixes going out for Realm Weapons:

1. UAC gear will now check if it has the right flares when it is used in combat instead of when you draw the weapon, as gloves and boots don't get handled all that much.

2. The Elemental Confluence area will now impart Disruption flares to smack those pesky Air Elementals.

Some history: Realm Weapons debuted at the 2000 auction. We brought them back for the Droughtman runs and then again for Duskruin with updates for more realms, an improved list of flares (no lightning in Solhaven which has many watery rooms, for example), and support for UAC gear.

Realm Weapons are intended to offer a good flare for every realm. It is not the optimal flare for every single hunting ground or creature you might want to kill, but it's a good, flavorful choice for each realm that won't actively set off environmental hazards. Fire and ice elementals heating and cooling gear is an environmental hazard that is up to individual hunters to deal with. A weapon that switches its flares to combat different elementals would be a neat script on its own and something I'll consider for the future, but that's outside the scope of this script. It was intended to be a serviceable weapon anywhere you go in the game.

Things that remain blessable while providing flares are incredibly rare, as that's a huge mechanical advantage over other weapons. Don't expect to see that with any sort of regularity. It's not something I'm overly interested in providing in any sort of large quantities as it makes existing gear much less desirable.
