Elemental Dispel (417)

|
Elemental Dispel, when targeted at a character or creature, has one of three results:
- It causes the target to lose any currently prepared spell, along with the mana it would have required to cast that spell. May inflict nerve damage when dispelling a prepared spell from a target.
- It causes a spell that is currently cast on the target to be dispelled (i.e. if the target had Elemental Defense I active then Elemental Defense I would be removed). The mana cost for removing a spell is reduced by one (1) mana per seventy-five (75) skill bonus in the Elemental Mana Control skill.
- It causes the target to lose a portion, or even all of its mana. This costs a flat 5 mana and is not reduced by training in Elemental Mana Control.
When cast on an item, the spell has a chance to drain charges, dispel any stored spells, or remove another type of special quality. When cast at an Elementally Bladed weapon or bolts/arrows then it will remove the elemental blade magic; the same is true for a weapon enhanced with Minor Elemental Edging, or a runestaff that is temporarily ensorcelled.
A sphere interference cascade effect triggers when single dispel spells of different spheres are used on the same target in combination. The second spell cast on a target determines the damage type of the effect. When Elemental Dispel is cast second, it will cause an elemental aura around the target to flux chaotically, and trigger electric, impact, fire, or ice damage (randomly). The degree of critical caused is level based for the caster vs. target.
When channeled, Elemental Dispel will remove a negative effect elemental spell from the target. When doing so, it will force the caster into an offensive stance and cause 5 seconds of roundtime.
Mana Control Benefit
When dispelling a spell, the mana cost is 1 mana for every 4 levels of the target spell, and +2 mana when the dispel doesn't match the sphere of the target spell. Every 75 skill in Elemental Mana Control reduces the mana cost by 1. Minimum of 1 mana and maximum of 5 mana.
The chart on the Mental Dispel (1218) page might be applicable to this spell for one less mana each threshold.
Lore Benefits
Training in Elemental Lore, Fire provides two benefits:
Removing Both Prepared and Defensive Spells
When using Elemental Dispel to cause the target to lose a prepared spell, 10 ranks of Fire Lore unlocks the chance to strip a defensive spell from the target, in addition to the prepared spell. This ability has a base 10% chance with an additional 3% every 10 ranks.

Increased Mana Drain
Fire Lore increases the mana drain by skill bonus ÷ 15.
