Synopsis

Elidal meets with people in the barony campsite, saying that Enisius will be doing community service by teaching magic to orphans. Later, after he leaves, Wehnimer's Landing town guards give a shout and green lights are spotted in the forest! As people investigate the area, eventually they discovered a pale girl with sunken pits for eyes, a lipless mouth, and flies clinging to her--though it's really an entity taking the appearance of such.

The entity warns everyone to stop being "pissants and meddlesome fools" who poke around Darkstone Castle and map the manastorms or she'll turn their women barren, render their fields festering with blight, run their water red and then dry, lead children to cannibalism of the elderly, and starve them with the manafires. As the entity or incarnation begins to disintegrate, everyone present suffers an affliction of boils and cracking skin.

Editing Protocol of this Log

Idle Chatter in the Snow

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the porcelain Alexandrena disk laced with tiny cracks, a skeletal bone white serpent, a pretty flower girl, a bistre-rosetted caramel kitten with pale blue eyes, the Drazaa disk, a bushy-tailed golden brown coyote, a lazy wild deep crimson dog, a flame-eyed burnished ember fox, a sad luck spirit that is flying around, the Glanzfaust disk, the Saesyra disk, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, a large acorn, an acid-pitted steel strongbox, a handful of white flower petals, a swirled disk of blue and yellow ground cornmeal, a wafer of candied seeds, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it, an herbal remedy donation bin and a round silver-banded barrel.

Pukk exclaims, "Aha!"

Speaking ruefully to a white-masked reddish brown puppy with high triangular ears, Leafiara says, "Aww, you stopped being a phoenix puppy right when it was snowing."

Pukk exclaims, "It worked!"

Speaking to Leafiara, Kiyna asks, "Phoenix puppy?"

Pukk says, "It's called being hard headed."

Speaking cheerfully to Kiyna, Leafiara exclaims, "Sometimes she lights up on fire. It's quite a sight!"

[General] Pukk exclaims, "Yes. Kiyna laughs at the gods and knows that nothing can stop her!"

Pukk recites:

"Everybody step away from Kiyna"

Raising her hands before her, Leafiara quickly backpedals away from Kiyna.

Alexandrena leans away from Kiyna.

[General] Kiyna thinks, "You're damned right I do."

Speaking to Pukk, Perigourd says, "I think you missed your calling as a dance instructor."

Speaking to Perigourd, Pukk says, "I always thought so too."

Speaking to Alexandrena, Monza says, "Can has any of thems."

Monza says, "Be right backs, turn in my bounties."

Alexandrena says, "Hmmmm."

Pukk recites:

"Tonight looks like it is going to be a chilling night of suspense and possibly murder with a side of Xorus. Join Kayse"

Xorus says, "That sounds redundant."

Pukk says, "Well murder and Xorus are two different scales."

Xorus says, "Fair enough."

Pukk says, "Like saying a killing and a massacre."

Pukk says, "If you haven't heard. We are joining Kayse, just in case."

Pukk says, "Myasarie just wants to be close to me."

Speaking to Myasarie, Pukk says, "You just didn't know it yet."

Myasarie quietly says, "One believes that be the other way about."

Alexandrena asks, "You need money, sis?"

Lylia whispers something to Xorus.

Bernadette just strode in.

Speaking quietly to Pukk, Myasarie says, "You m'lord are encoragable flirt."

Speaking to Kiyna, Perigourd says, "I would assume so."

Pukk flirtatiously says, "I flirt with her. My heart belongs to you though."

[Solhaven, Beacon Tower]

White limestone mixes with the tower's dark foundation from its base to its crown and is a marked sign of renovation to the ancient premises. Against the outer wall, a stone stairway spirals upward, its course illuminated by bracketed torches and interrupted by four landings. Above the stairway, the roof of the tower has been removed to expose the night sky and all eight crenellated points have been repaired. You also see some ambrominas leaf, some ambrominas leaf, a cherry red fire puppy ablaze with a dancing blue-violet inferno, an engraved gold strongbox, a badly damaged monir chest, a plain fel box, an enruned fel trunk, a battered brass chest, a badly damaged steel chest, an engraved maoral box, an acid-pitted brass strongbox, an enruned maoral strongbox, an acid-pitted brass strongbox and a steep ramp.

[General] Gone asks, "I'm in a dungeon. how would i know what is going on at the north tower?"

[General] Leafiara asks, "...is there trouble?"

[General] Directed to Leafiara, Kiyna thinks, "Maybe."

[Wehnimer's, Outside Gate]

Citizens, merchants and assorted dregs of society jostle against you before the great wooden gates of Wehnimer's Landing. Harried guards and militiamen try to keep the chaos to a minimum, but it is hard to keep track of those entering, let alone leaving, this large trading post. A dirt path encircling the wooden palisade of the town leads east and southwest. Nailed prominently to the wooden wall beside the gate is a sign you really should read. You also see a ruby-throated emerald hummingbird that is flying around, the sparking Neithan disk and the Wayside inn.

Leafiara wryly says, "Yes, that's half the reason I came back."

Leafiara mutters, "Rather listen to a five-hour Amos seminar than ten minutes of that guy."

Speaking laughingly to Leafiara, Neithan agrees, "I didn't want to be the first one to say it."

Leafiara says, "Hm."

[General] Leafiara clarifies, "To be clear, we're talking about lights in the Dragonsclaw forest?"

[General] Murharzarm thinks, "I'm reading the ballista just in case."

A wisps of green light appears within the Lower Dragonsclaw forest.

[General] Leafiara acknowledges, "Okay, yes indeed we are."

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Wooded Hills]

Clumps of modwirs obscure your vision up the hill, but also act as a windbreak. The strong pine scent of the trees fills the area, making your eyes water. Strange chitterings and cracklings make you very aware that you're not alone here. You also see the Leafiara disk, a crackling sickly-green fire and a black-whorled ashen bone pillar.

Speaking dubiously to a crackling sickly-green fire, Leafiara says, "Unrelated to you, I suppose..."

[General] Neithan calmly notes, "Leafiara is scouting. I'm watching the front gates. And we have ballistae manned. If a defensive point forms, please let us know."

A cold wind stirs through the Wooded Hills.

A ruby-throated emerald hummingbird asks, "Wooded Hills?"

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Plenty of others scouting the forest too, so we'll see if anything gets spotted."

Darkstone's Warning

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Wooded Hills]

The ground shifts from flat forest to jagged hillside, the trees thinning out as the ground gets rougher and rockier. The oaks disappear farther up the slope, leaving the modwirs to dominate the hill. You also see a velnalin, a ruby-throated emerald hummingbird that is flying around, the Leafiara disk, a velnalin, the Lylia disk, the bloodstained Xorus disk with scuffed and dented sides, a kobold, a rolton, a kobold and a young pale girl.

The girl is pale, her skin almost translucent with narrow blue veins casting webs along her fingers, bare feet and throat. Her eyes are sunken pits, wreathed in dried blood. Tiny wisps of viridian energy seep from the depths of her eyeless sockets. Ragged clothes barely cling to her lanky form, and her lips have been peeled from her face, replaced by a gruesome wound carved into a wide, grotesque frown. Flies cling to bare patches admist the stained blonde hair along her scalp.

[General] Leafiara curiously thinks, "Well, we've spotted... uh... I'm not quite sure."

Thrassus says, "Well, haven't seen something like that in a while."

A young pale girl's frayed lips part and she says, "You should stop."

Leafiara curiously asks, "Stop what?"

[General] Pukk thinks, "If Leafiara isn't sure...it means doom."

Speaking softly to a young pale girl, Neithan inquires, "Do you need help?"

Kiyna says, "She's badly injured... or scarred."

Thrassus says, "I do not think she is a normal child."

A young pale girl's frayed lips part and she says, "Stop being stupid little pissants and meddlesome fools."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "A very injured looking girl with no lips is nonetheless speaking to us. It's where we're at during this point in time."

Goldstr says, "Verra sick."

[General] Irval thinks, "Kill it with fire."

Tikba mildly says, "I suspect we will not."

Neithan laughingly recalls, "Oh, she's talking about Elidal."

A young pale girl's frayed lips part and she says, "A child is what your people listen too the most, do they not?"

Leafiara says, "I heard that Elidal recently left, so you probably need to relay it to him."

Speaking to a young pale girl, Kiyna says, "So we're irritating you. Then it's working. Good reason not to stop."

Thrassus asks, "Who are you?"

Lylia simply says, "Yes."

[General] Monza exclaims, "If thats doesnt work, just use more fire!"

Perigourd says, "Truth comes from the mouths of children more often than most."

Xorus says, "I do not care for children. But your point is taken."

Lylia says, "Adopting the guise of a child is enough to make most sit down and listen. True enough."

[General] Aihan exclaims, "And that is why I don't take on child rescue missions for the Adventurer's Guild!"

[General] Heshlon thinks, "If spiders start coming out of her mouth, I'm moving back to the nations..."

Neithan notes, "Maybe a ... better .. version?"

The pale girl begins to weep, rivulets of blood drizzling down her cheeks. Her frown seems to widen, as if she tries to smile, but her flesh only twists in the opposite way.

[General] Jastalyn asks, "What is she saying?"

[General] Jastalyn thinks, "I'm manning the north gate."

Goldstr says, "Hmmmm."

[General] Lylia thinks, "She said we are pissants and meddlesome fools, and we should cease what we are doing."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "She's telling 'us' to stop being meddlesome fools."

[General] Lylia thinks, "And pissants. I distinctly heard 'pissants' too."

[General] Heshlon thinks, "Sounds friendly."

[General] Directed to Lylia, Kiyna thinks, "Oh, you did."

[General] Leafiara admits, "I assumed that one was meant for Elidal even though he's not here."

Thrassus asks, "What is the specific thing we are meddling with?"

Tikba carefully asks, "You have told us what to not do. What do you wish us to do?"

[General] Lylia thinks, "And she, or it, has adopted the look of a child because it is what will force us all to stop and listen. It is clever in this way."

Thrassus says, "As I said, this is not an actual child."

A young pale girl's frayed lips part and she says, "I will turn your women barren, and your fields festering with blight. Your water will run red and then dry. Children will feast on the old, and the emerald fire will starve you. Don't pretend you were never warned."

Lylia breathes, "Oh, I see."

Xorus says, "Oh, I like her."

Thrassus asks, "The Bleak?"

Thrassus says, "I thought we had you all locked up."

Speaking to Thrassus, Lylia murmurs, "I thought perhaps, yes."

[General] Pukk thinks, "True. Most times people see something different they kill it first and then ask it questions."

A young pale girl's frayed lips part and she says, "I am not your Bleak. I am far beyond that, and until now, you were far beneath me."

Lylia asks, "And does that emerald fire burn in you?"

A young pale girl's frayed lips part and she says, "But you meddle, and poke, and map the storms."

Missoni confusedly asks, "What do you have to do with the storms?"

A young pale girl's frayed lips part and she says, "Was there not enough your eyes were cast upon?"

Speaking to a young pale girl, Raelee says, "... there is never enough."

Leafiara mutters, "Yes, well, *some* of us told the new barony--repeatedly--not to mess with the Reach or Darkstone, but there they go."

Lylia says, "Something greater, then."

Goldstr says, "I tinks dis be da Reach."

Lylia says, "There is never enough to satisfy my gaze, no."

Speaking to a young pale girl, Kiyna asks, "Once again, you suggest we are making progress. Perhaps we should simply press on?"

Speaking to a young pale girl, Thrassus asks, "So, are you the one that is causing the ghosts of the past to haunt us?"

[General] Murharzarm asks, "All that drama just to basically mean mug in an attempt to get folks not to meddle then?"

Neithan agrees, "Why stop a good thing? Not broke? Don't fix it."

Speaking to a young pale girl, Kiyna repeats, ""And until now, you were far beneath me". So... we're no longer beneath you. Making progress."

Tikba says, "It is broken. We were attacked by Blameless not more than a week ago."

Speaking to a young pale girl, Raelee asks, "Others have asked, but a question is worth repeating until it is answered - what are you?"

Lylia says, "It is as if time has broken, yes. Battles already fought, coming back again."

Mourdeyan says, "Or whom."

Speaking calmly to Raelee, Neithan mentions, "I say we take her inside, get her some nice hot cocoa, a towel, maybe some extra ... lips ... and come at this all from a more friendly angle?"

Tikba politely agrees, "We have been warned."

Speaking to Neithan, Raelee says, "This is not a real child - I suspect she is not interested in cocoa."

Lylia says, "Every corner of this world is ours to explore, and eventually to do with as we wish."

Leafiara muses, "Good time to not be an Envoy who should probably relay this message to the organizers of the meddling."

Speaking to a young pale girl, Raelee asks, "Perhaps the question, then, is what is it that you do not want us to know?"

Thrassus says, "Since she is so concerned about the castle, it makes me wonder if she isn't more and embodiment fear than afraid."

Speaking to Neithan, Faiyth asks, "We've been lost at sea for three weeks and YER hungry?"

[General] Monza thinks, "Probably just meddle mores."

Mourdeyan says, "And insults....don't forget us Pissants."

Speaking to Faiyth, Neithan says, "Oh yeah, you're here for five minutes and it's all about You."

Speaking to Faiyth, Irval asks, "This isnt the crow from my crow's nest on my brig is it?"

Speaking to Neithan, Faiyth says, "Sounds perfect."

Lylia says, "I see the skies alight with power."

Speaking to Irval, Faiyth says, "One eats what one must."

Speaking calmly to Faiyth, Neithan notes, "A modest proposal indeed."

Speaking thoughtfully to a young pale girl, Raelee says, "... I have so many questions for you."

Lylia says, "We have our own interests there, on the hill."

[General] Murharzarm thinks, "Generally telling people not to meddle does just make them curiouser."

Raelee quietly says, "... and so many questions unanswered again."
