Rumor Woods 2023 Teasers & Announcements

Announcements

Announcement 1 - Dates

Rumor Woods will take place June 16 - 30th in 2023.

This year's theme is the Rolton vs. the Wolf!

Announcement 2 - Player Customization System updates

Player Customization System updates
The Player Customization System will be updated for Rumor Woods to also include custom Manna and Major Sanctuaries. This will allow you to have more than one of each and choose between them at will.

We've been working on a new Player Customization System to give players more control and flexibility around things like spell customizations. The first phase of this system was seen at Ebon Gate last year, where custom death messages became an option for the first time.

The next phase of this system will roll out at the upcoming run of Rumor Woods. Starting at Rumor Woods, you will be able to unlock and choose between multiple different Major Sanctuary appearances and custom Manna flavors. These are no longer limited to one per character. Your existing custom Major Sanctuary or Manna, if any, will also remain available to you under the new system.

Special thanks to GM Yusri for getting this system ready for Rumor Woods.

A note on body and coat:

Options for body will range from fluffy, plump, shaggy, sleek, and thin to all of the new rolton describing nouns found in the Roltons, Wools, and Cheeses of the Lands document.

Announcement 7 - Jousting

Not as big of an update as the hunts, but the raikhen rewards have been adjusted. The base raikhen reward is 275. Each of the 5 passes you can score 0, 5, or 10 raikhen. The max being 325 raikhen. Do to the random nature of the NPC, the average should work out to be 300 raikhen with the edge being toward the player, as last year the average was 137. The item rewards will be updated and discussed in another thread, as all activities draw from them.

Announcement 8 Fox & Pixie Hunt

Some updates to both the Fox and Pixie Hunts will be going in this run.

In prior runs you needed to be 2x (or more) in survival for TRACK or 2x (or more) in perception for OBSERVE for a 50% chance to find the fox or pixie in the room you were in. There is different messaging to indicate your skill level. Going forward if you're 2x (or more) in the proper skill, you will have a guaranteed chance to see if the room you're in has the fox or pixie. If you're 1x (or more, but not 2x) you'll have a 50% chance, instead of a 33% chance. If you have under 1x, it will be a 25% instead of 20%.

As a reminder, the fox and pixie have chosen a "favorite" spot randomly when you enter, but will run around the area with you. In the fox hunt, the fox can travel out of the dead end rooms by going through some of environs to get to its "favorite" spot. This is intended and has been the same since the initial debut of this. It is possible to track a fox into the dead end by the stone hut, but the fox can sort of cheat and end up in the Raven's Circle. The pixie hunt doesn't have these dead ends, so the pixie doesn't really have any rooms that it can bounce around to. It typically goes room to room, but like the fox it is always trying to get you to its "favorite" room. In both cases, the movement is very random and can do a whole lot of running back and forth. Best rule of thumb is, follow the animal if you see it, but don't keep tracking or observing in the same rooms if it does the whole back and forth bit. Just move to a new room. You won't always see the fox or pixie so it's best to try to keep moving around.

The raikhen rewards will be 275 to 290 for not finding finding the fox. If you have properly tracked/observed a room and don't see ANY signs, this room will award a more prized animal and get you more raikhen. If you see paw prints (fox) or tiny footprints (pixie), this means you failed your skill check and you will get the lesser prized animal. If you don't track/observe at all, you get the worst outcome (275). If you find the fox or pixie, you will get 400. Due to how long it takes to track/observe, it's not possible to always find the fox or pixie, so trying each time rather than just searching will be more rewarding. As long as you're successfully track/observe, you will get between 286 and 290. If you tracked/observed, but weren't successful, you'll earn between 276 and 285. The intended rate at which you get the max reward is about once every ten runs. I know this wasn't the case in previous runs, but my numbers show that most people didn't look and just quickly ended their runs inside by searching.

New messaging has been added for searching without doing anything else (you are given a warning if you want to do this, this part isn't new). Don't get finding the fox or pixie confused with finding the pet. There are specific items that summon them, a bugle for the fox and a bell for the new pet. Finding the fox or pixie are just for raikhen rewards and have nothing to do with finding the pets or the item rewards. I will discuss an updated list of rewards in another thread, as all the other activities can draw from them.

Lastly, exp awards have been increased from 10 for track/observe to 12 and search went from 25 to 100. You can track/observe multiple times, so you can earn over 280 exp if you are efficient at using your time.

Announcement 9 - Activity Rewards

With all the other changes, we have some upgrades to the reward structure.

First, just want to discuss what isn't changing and give the breakdowns on any drop rates. Raikhen rewards are based on the performance of the activity, rewards are all random. You can get a partial SimuCoin item each run. There is a 1 in 250 chance that you can get one of the better SimuCoin items (value-wise). These are purely incidental. The bugle and bell (the pet drops) are a 1 in 5000 chance per game (so fox hunt and pixie hunt track separately). This improves the longer one doesn't go out (similar to the exp orb at Duskruin, but on a global level, not an individual level).

Now for the updates!

The common SimuCoin item rewards are:

  1. a potent blue-green potion (8 uses, 14400 seconds per use, SK enhancive temp recharger)
  2. an urchin guide contract (30 days)
  3. a flexing arm token (15 uses, enhancive pause)
  4. an Elanthian Guilds voucher pack (2 vouchers)
  5. a blue feather-shaped charm (1 use, encumbrance)
  6. an Adventurer's Guild voucher pack (2 vouchers)

The rare SimuCoin rewards are:

  1. a swirling yellow-green potion (30 days, enhancive recharger)
  2. an Adventurer's Guild task waiver (standard)
  3. a sun-etched gold ring (30 days)
  4. a locker runner contract (30 days)
  5. a larger locker contract (+50 locker spots for 30 days)

Previous years had the urchin guide in the common list and Chronomage spheres and a single Reim orb in the rare. The takeaway is that we're increasing the value of the rare rewards from 75 - 100 SC to 250 - 400 SC.

The bell to summon a lamb pet is all new this run and can only be found in the Pixie Hunt. The bell is wearable on your belt, like the bugle in the Fox Hunt. The EVENT STATS will be updated with some naming here.

Teaser 3 - Dreamfire

Dreamfire - Rumor Woods Edition

A Dreamfire panel peddler has appeared at the Rumor Woods festival grounds to sell some festival-themed Dreamfire panels. Take home a souvenir panel designed for this year's combatant theme or previous years' combatants. The large six-sided stock panel display will not be making a visit at this time.

Teaser 4 Lamb Among Wolves

Lambs Among Wolves

Themed after this year’s participants, there will be four new, RW-exclusive perfumes.

I’m told they’re nasty, but nastiness is…er…in the nose of the sniffer?

Teaser 5 Let's Dance

Let's Dance!

Debuting at Rumor Woods is a new miscellaneous item script, Let's Dance! Available in the shop, "Whirl and Twirl", Let's Dance! items allow a character to dance, alone or with a willing partner, in time with a musician playing an instrument or without.

Married partners need not be joined or ask permission to dance with their spouses. Non-married dance partners must consent to dance via redacted.

The items do not appear in any messaging and there are no alteration guidelines. This script can technically work on almost any held or worn item, as a script or subscript. Players can add the off-the-shelf script to their own items via Darning Awl, Cobbling punch, or Lock Mastery clasps. The script is not otherwise available for adding to existing items at this time.

Players may choose to unlock additional dance styles via certificate in line with the styles available to musical instruments: joyful, mournful, soft, fast, slow, intense, jaunty, flamboyant, aimless, somber, and inspiring. The dancer may TURN the item to cycle through each option; TURN it to a particular unlocked style; or TURN it to MELODY and then will dance in the style of any active music, if that style is unlocked. Certificates are available in 1 use; 10 use; or one use of all unlocks at once.

Messaging was provided by players via Premium contest.

Examples:
Husband holds Wife at a proper distance to maintain decorum as they execute an elegant, stately dance together in time with Musician's flute's mournful tune.
Their feet furiously tapping to the rhythm of Musician's flute's joyful reel, Husband and Wife twirl eagerly across the ground.
Husband raises one arm high overhead and hooks the other arm around Wife's back as she follows suit, clasping their hands together and swaying in a tight embrace like two tangled snakes.

Teaser 6 New Pet

New Pet, the Lamb!

This year, the newest edition to pets is the lamb. You can find the lamb by chance in the Pixie Hunt, or you can purchase it in the shop Ewe Vixen. Fox bugles will also be available here.

The lambs in the Pixie Hunt are completely random. However, the possibilities are:

a golden-eyed coppery red bighorn lamb
a brown-eyed tawny gold flatfoot lamb
a dark-eyed ruddy brown Bresnahanini lamb
an amber-eyed shaggy ivory rakka lamb
a yellow-eyed mottled grey risthil lamb
a brown-eyed silky rust red Vaslavia lamb
a copper-eyed black and white dorper lamb
a tawny-eyed shaggy cream ixacikta lamb
a grey-eyed yellowish white steelhorn lamb
a brown-faced shaggy white Darkling Wood lamb
a petite tawny brown maeltijd lamb

Those that are found in the shop will be rolton lambs.

All of these lambs can be fed, held, hugged, kissed, cuddled, petted, nudged, pinched, played with, poked, scratched, tickled, and waved at, to, or with.

You can also add or remove a bow from them to make them look a little fancier.

For more teasers on these pets, visit the Discord Forums Discussion: Discord Forums Post about the Lamb

Teaster 7 Stables & Lofts

Stables & Lofts – Announcement
With this upcoming Rumor Woods, we are going to be rolling out the ability to purchase a loft for everyone that wants to obtain one. Lofts are only accessible through your stall. A ladder will be placed in your stall once you have paid for the loft upgrade with the stablehand. You will be able to purchase this only in the stable where your stall is located.

The base loft is a room that has a railing in it, peering at the railing allows you to have a wizard window to display your stored mounts ambients.

All lofts can be upgraded from their run-of-the-mill look to one of five options. As soon as you upgrade your loft, you will gain access to the following room props:

A rope suspended from the rafters allows you to swing down into your stall.
A hay-filled bed (new script).
A window (InnFun Script).
A lantern (you can turn it on and off).
A rug (scripted).
A seat of some kind (scripted).

While the loft can never have storage items, we have not removed the ones you can obtain for your stall. While the loft is not noded, you can purchase a node upgrade certificate.

There will also be vouchers that allow you to CUSTOMIZE each of the room props, which can only ever have a SHOW description. Included in the customizations, some props have additional customizations:

Lantern – You can customize if it uses mundane (default) or magical fire.
Seat – You can customize first, third-person, and hidden-person SIT messaging.
Rope – You can customize departure and arrival messaging for your stall.
Window – All images that can be created via EXHALE can be customized.

Please note: While these are not private properties and they can’t use any of the customization slips or additions that a private property can have, they are customizable to a fairly decent degree. This year, there are five room types, but in future years we may offer more.

Prices:
Stall: 75,000 raikhen
Loft: 25,000 raikhen
Loft Upgrade (addition of six room props): 20,000 raikhen
Loft Prop Customization Slips: 5,000 raikhen (rug & bed), 10,000 raikhen (lantern, seat, rope, and window)
Node Addition: 10,000 raikhen

Discord Message Link: WoodChopper Box Updates
Author: Xeraphina
Date: 6/15/2023

Here at Woodn't Yew, we aim to please, and we hope that these updates are pleasing to you!

  • Sick of carting around all those wands? The WoodChopper box will now accept spells (Minor Shock (901) and Major Shock (910), along with wands for the magic-impaired. Additionally, when charging the box with wands, the box will now transfer the charges of the wand directly into it. No need to insert or remove the wand all the time! Additionally, if for whatever reason you wish to clear the charges (by why would you?!), you can just PULL the box (you DO get a warning that the box will be cleared of charges by doing so).
  • Speaking of charges! Your WoodChopper Box can now hold up to 40 charges! Mind you, each item creation will still eat 10 charges, but a fully charged box will let you make 4 items before needing to be recharged!
  • You WoodChopper box will now refuse gems that do not meet the threshhold for use (less than 500 silvers value). Additionally, when inserting a gem, you will now be notified which tier the gem would work best for. Additionally, you no longer need to PINCH your box to clear a gem out once used... however if for whatever reason you decide the gem isn't good enough for what you want to make, you PINCH it to clear it out (but again... WHY?!)
  • That's it for convenience updates, but what else can make you consider purchasing on of these fine specimens of craftsmanship?
    • Weavable Beads - The WoodChopper Box will now create a collection of 25 weavable beads instead of one single measly weavable bead!
    • Fletching Shafts - The WoodChopper Box will now create a bundle of 5 fletching shafts instead of one single measly fletching shaft!

Discord Message Link: WoodChopper Box Updates v.2
Author: Xeraphina
Date: 7/18/2023

Just when you thought things couldn't get better... Woodn't Yew returns with some excellent news! (Yes, we know it's after Rumor Woods, and we're sorry, but some things take time and it's better late than never.)

The WoodChopper Box Tier 3 has seen some new and wonderful functionality added!

At Tier 3:

  • POKE will now allow you to customize the finish (aka article) of your toothpicks, weavables, LM clasps, cobbling materials, and HairPicks!
  • You can now PROD weavables to do beads/spacers, or ornaments for more fun shapes!
  • Cobbling patterns have been updated to include clogs, wedge-heeled sandals, and high or low chopines.
  • SPIN has been added to allow you to customize the shape of your weavable beads/ornaments, LM clasps, cobbling settings, and hairpicks!
  • PONDER has been added so you can see available finishes/nouns for the item you're considering making.

But wait, there's more! You will now be able to add up to 3 finishes and 2 nouns to make your WoodChopper Box do what you want it to do!

The ANALYZE has been updated to reflect this information, as well! We at Woodn't Yew are humbly proud of our latest innovations and hope you enjoy them, as well.

Please note: Due to the added functionality of Tier 3, the Tier 3 unlock may be priced higher at future Rumor Woods runs.

Special thanks to GMs Isten and Retser for the QC, and GM Vanah for the additional help with some feature creeeeeeeping.

Teaser 9 - New Material - Vethinye or Starsong

New Material - Vethinye or Starsong
A new material is being released at Rumor Woods 2023. It is called vethinye or starsong.

Vethinye weapons will be sold in The Starry Lotus.

Vethinye or starsong is a metal that can be used to craft armaments. When struck in combat, it has a chance to vibrate and release a song that is disruptive to multiple targets in an area.

OOC: The flares are innate to the material and do not use the ability field. They deal standard critical damage and use disruption criticals. When the flare triggers, it will affect 1d3 targets. If there are less creatures in the room than the number of flares, the the remaining flares will hit the initial target. Vethinye/starsong has a material difficulty of 150.

In the example below, there are 2 creatures in the room (a seer and herald). The flare triggered 3 times: first against the seer, second against the herald, and third against the seer again since there were no other targets available in the room.

>attack seer You swing a sharpened vethinye ono at an Ithzir seer!

 AS: +403 vs DS: +271 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +32 = +194
... and hit for 59 points of damage!
Quick, hard slash to the Ithzir seer's right arm!
  CRACK
As a resonating song emanates from your vethinye ono, it entwines you in night blue wisps of ephemera. Suddenly, a star-sparked rush of percussive pressure from the ono whips out at an Ithzir seer!
  ... 30 points of damage!
Bones shatter in the Ithzir seer's leg!
It is knocked to the ground!
As a resonating song emanates from your vethinye ono, it entwines you in night blue wisps of ephemera. Suddenly, a star-sparked rush of percussive pressure from the ono whips out at an Ithzir herald!
  ... 10 points of damage!
You snap the tendons in the Ithzir herald's foot. Looks painful.

As a resonating song emanates from your vethinye ono, it entwines you in night blue wisps of ephemera. Suddenly, a star-sparked rush of percussive pressure from the ono whips out at an Ithzir seer!
  ... 20 points of damage!
The Ithzir seer's stomach muscles ripped apart violently.

The Ithzir seer falls to the ground in a crumpled heap. Roundtime: 4 sec.

Answered Questions
  1. Yes, off-the-shelf availability
  2. No tiers/unlocks
  3. 400,000 raikhen base (surcharges on katanas, naginatas, and claidhmores)
  4. This works on weapons (including UCS, ranged, and runestaves), armor/armor accessories, and shields. This year only sees weapons OTS as we had limited time
  5. AOE flares, yes
  6. This is inherent to the material itself, so the ability flare slot and the script slot are still available
  7. Inyexat have slightly altered messaging on the flare, since they create the stuff
  8. Inyexat have a very minor boost to damage
Announcement Modification Starsong...

We have heard your feedback!

Teaser 11 - Private Property

Private Property Shop

This year at Rumor Woods, we are trying something new. We are adding a private property shop. While some of the vouchers, slips, and certificates that you can obtain in this shop will be able to be utilized and manipulated by you, others will require you to use a new system we are creating. We will have more on this new system after the weekend. However, since many of you were asking for the items and their pricing, I'm going to share it now.

  1. a minute furniture mover request (5k raikhen)
  2. a colorful property deed (250k raikhen)
  3. a plain white vellum slip (10k raikhen)
  4. a key-painted work order slip (10k raikhen)
  5. a simple basin repair order (10k raikhen)
  6. a property design slip (50k raikhen)
  7. a window repair work order (10k raikhen)
  8. a keyless entry voucher (10k raikhen)

A minute furniture mover request will allow you to move a permanent item in your property in, on, behind, or under another item in your property. You must stand in the room the item is in and whisper to the request before submitting it.

A colorful property deed - this will allow you to make your property permanent. You must stand in your property and whisper the name of the property to the deed before submitting it.

A plain white vellum slip - this will allow you to embed a permanent item into the room description of your property. It will need to go through QC and the requested item MUST already be mentioned but unlinked in your room description. We are not rewriting room descriptions at this time. In order to use this slip, you must stand in the room with the item and whisper the room name and the item you want to be embedded before submitting the slip.

A key-painted work order slip - this will provide teleportation services for your item. You must whisper to the slip the specific key you wish to have the service added to.

A simple basin repair order - This can either be POINTED at a non-functional basin on your property to give it the InnFun script OR it can be RAISED in a specific room to add a basin.

A property design slip - Also known as the Bungalow Slips, these allow you to design and alter an item on your property. Simply POINT the slip AT the item you want to design and then begin working with the slip.

A window repair work order - This will allow you to add the InnFun script to a window. Please remember, you can customize the EXHALE design before applying.

A keyless entry voucher - This will allow you to apply keyless entry to your property's entry and any other doors that you do not want others to go through. To use it, stand on the SIDE of the door that you want to be able to enter through. This will allow the OPPOSITE SIDE to let others exit the space if you are not around.

Items 5, 7, and 8 do not require any GM interaction.
Items 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 will be part of the new system I mentioned above. It will allow us and you to track and monitor all delayed services, which will allow us to handle implementation and design.

Teaser 12 Rolton Mount Rare Ability

Rolton Mount - That rare ability...

Much like other rare mounts, the rolton has its own unique ability that can randomly do.

Snuffling about the foliage, a fluffy black rolton coaxes forth (butterfly/cikya/moth) from its hiding place. It flutters just above the rolton, sunlight/moonlight dancing upon its delicate wings. A quiet bleat from the rolton startles the insect, and it darts off, but as it does, something gently drops to the ground.

During the day, the rolton can randomly find butterflies or cikyas, while during the evening it can randomly find moths or cikyas. These insects are part of the Bugs on Parade insect series and you will have a 50/50 chance to get either a gemstone or a paper insect. Each gemstone is coded just as all the other Bugs on Parade insects are and can be used in your crafting, the paper insect is similar but not quite the same. In honor of the noble animal that found it, and because it is the Year of the Rolton, the paper designs are completely based on roltons.
