The Griffin Sword Saga (storyline)/2002-05-11 - Kendryth (log)

Kendryth emerges from within the Temple of Lorminstra to speak with the small crowd gathered around the Griffin Sword in Wehnimer's Landing on the afternoon of 5/11/02. In recent days, there are rumors of giant worms emerging from beneath Solhaven, presumably summoned there by Morvule. The rumors are so significant that they are mentioned in the Elanthian Journal. Kendryth plans to travel south to investigate and to determine if this is a genuine threat or simply a ruse to Ulstram from the sword's taint.

When he arrives in Solhaven much later, he speaks with the locals, who share about how Nevrek, a prominent Luukosian, has been attempting a ritual near the Cascade of Tears. Their concern is that Morvule has some interest in either the dead dwarves entombed within or the history of the kraken that destroyed them centuries before.

Later that night, Ulstram briefly emerges to speak with those standing outside of the temple in the Landing. He inquires about how well the mana focii is holding, enhanced by many infusing mana into the area, and confirms that a ritual is needed to purge the taint in the coming days.

Kendryth Speaks in the Landing

[Wehnimer's, Erebor Square]
The dome of a large temple rises before you.  The circular building is surrounded by marble porticos and teak columns.  A promenade leads to two pillars, through which you can peer into the inner sanctum.  You observe priests, acolytes, monks and worshippers engaged in various rituals of devotion.  A locked almsbox is securely bolted to an iron pole alongside the pillars.  You also see a wrought-iron gate and the Griffin sword which is embedded to its hilt in a glowing white stone.

Kendryth quietly strides in.

You see Kendryth Tulurin the Human Paladin.
He appears to be in his 100's, has deep black silver-streaked hair, dark steel-grey eyes, and tanned skin.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a suit of golden golvern plate traced with dark rolaren filigree, a pair of dark leather boots reinforced with plates of rolaren, a billowing white cape heavily worked with patterns of golden knotwork, a massive white-gold sheath, a dark golden golvern shield inlaid with a lustrous white-gold crown, and a small golden crown pendant.

Boomsplat bows to Kendryth.

Morgiest says, "Hail Sir Kendryth."

Avira asks, "Oh?"
Avira turns to face Kendryth.
Avira asks, "This is Lord Kendryth?"
Avira curtsies to Kendryth.

You survey the area.

Kendryth says, "Hello.  It was good to sleep last night, but how brief it was."

Avira says, "Greetings, My Lord."
Avira asks, "Do you bring news today?"

Morgiest says, "Have nae fear M'Lord. A watch hae been kept."

Boomsplat asks, "Wat'ums news ye bring?"
Boomsplat peers quizzically at Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "I intend to travel to Solhaven tonight to investigate the matters folk have told me about last night."

You rub your chin thoughtfully.

Avira nods.
Avira asks, "What were these matters?"

Kerani asks, "Solhaven? What has happened there?"

Kendryth says, "Worms crawling.  I will find out if it is a real threat or not."

Morgiest says, "The Luukosians been stirin up some trouble down that way..."
Morgiest nods to Kerani.

You nod to Morgiest.

Kendryth says, "Deception is one of their tools."

Kerani furrows her brow.
Kerani says, "That is me home. But perhaps they are trying to lead us astray."

Kendryth says, "I will determine if it is trouble we should concern ourselves with, or trouble that is intentionally made."

Morgiest asks, "Hae ye investigated the Shrine along the Coastal Cliffs M'Lord?"
Morgiest smiles at Kendryth.

Yviara says, "I heard that they were trying to draw townpeaple away from the temple"

Kerani says, "The Chalise. Oh me. I seen it was fine jes 2 days ago."
Kerani frets.
Kerani closes her eyes for a moment.

Kendryth says, "They've blocked it off.  That or an earthquake rocked the area."

Morgiest says, "Morvule collapsed it aye."
Morgiest nods to Kendryth.

Boomsplat mutters something about Morvule.
Boomsplat grumbles.

Kendryth says, "You have Houses here, and military?  I have heard that Lord Malwind had established an order of knights here long ago."

Morgiest nods to Kendryth.

Yviara nods to Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "We need to find something they have not infected with their lies and deception."

Morgiest says, "They hae been warned M'Lord."

Kendryth nods.

Morgiest says, "The Phoenix protectors, the Northern Fury, And Daingneach Onoir hae also all been called up tae stand ready as well."

Kendryth says, "I would meet with them, if their leaders might be informed.  I am very much a foreigner in this town."

Morgiest says, "Well. Ahm the leader a Daingneach onoir M'Lord."
Morgiest smiles at Kendryth.
Morgiest says, "Lord Paladin Morgiest Frostgiant at yer service."

Kendryth is admiring Morgiest.

Morgiest bows to Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "You looked skilled, good to see a man of your stature in such position.  I will see if I might meet with the rest, so we may form a plan of action."

Kendryth asks, "I take it that you are strict in keeping your ranks clean of the treacherous lot?"

Morgiest asks, "Ahm in contact with all of them. Would ye like me tae arrange a meetin M'Lord?"

Kendryth says, "I will have to confer with my Liege, the Prophet.  My duty is to him first, but we must be prepared."

Kendryth says, "If he consents, I will meet with you."

Morgiest says, "There are none but those that follow the light in Onoir, of that ah assure ye."

Kendryth nods to Morgiest.

Morgiest says, "Well, there are typically one or another about this place that kin git hold a me M'Lord should the need arise and ahm nae here meself."

Kendryth says, "I will see to my Liege, then.  He has already sensed darkness in many..."

Morgiest says, "Jes ask, and ahm sure someone shall let me know."

You notice Kendryth looking straight at you.

You give your eyebrow a little workout.

Yviara says, "You will also be wanting to meet with leaders of the Silver Gryphons"
Yviara smiles at Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "I will go, then.  I thank you for the cooperation."

You furrow your brow, probably adding a wrinkle or two in the process.

Morgiest says, "ye mett Lord Cryheart last eve ah believe M'Lord. He leads the Gryphons now."
Morgiest nods to Kendryth.

Kendryth nods.

Morgiest turns towards Kendryth and renders a sharp hand salute.

Kendryth says, "The justice of Lord Koar shall fall upon these fiends, and we will be triumphant."

Kendryth quietly strides off.

Kendryth Travels to Solhaven

Later, Kendryth travels south to Solhaven, where he speaks with locals to determine if rumors of a threat are real or simply a ruse. Nevrek had been found trying to perform some sort of ritual by the Cascade of Tears; he had also previously killed Alisaire in public. Many of the locals were concerned that something was attempting to be done to the dwarven ruins sealed beneath, whether to raise the dead dwarves within as undead or to somehow use the kraken that had destroyed them. Partway through Kendryth's visit, Nevrek is spied again on the Cascade. He is interrupted again, and the discussion with Kendryth continues until he is summoned north by Ulstram.

[Oleani's Temple, Sanctuary]
An expansive rotunda opens to form a bright, airy room, illuminated by long, narrow windows.  Tall pillars of gold-flecked white marble stretch upward toward the domed ceiling that hovers above the benches facing an alabaster altar and a rose quartz baptismal font.  A delightful fresco serves as a colorful backdrop in the nave.  A modwir door leads to a prayer garden and, towards the back of the rotunda, a haon door leads to the oratory.  A maoral door leads to the priest's vestry.  You also see a rose quartz baptismal font and a carved alabaster altar.

Kendryth says, "I would see if they purposely seek to stir trouble here, in lieu of covering their true motives, or if their true motives are rooted to here."

Songie says, "ahh"
Songie nods to Kendryth.

Tarkisis asks, "And this prophet whom you protect? What can you tell of this?"
Tarkisis says, "I am most curious, you see."
Tarkisis leans on her staff.

Marvella asks, "Are you here to guard the sword?"
Marvella glances at Kendryth.

Songie asks, "the sword?"
Songie rubs her chin thoughtfully.

You say, "Ah, good.  You have come to see to the Luukosian threat in the freeport."

Marvella says, "I wish I paid more attention to the paper today"

Allanor says, "Threat my arse"
Allanor says, "Dem worms ain't nothin we can't handle"

Kendryth says, "The Prophet who I protect is blessed with Jastev's gift, and uses it toward the Lady's aims.  He is old, though, and while strong in magic, he could use another pair of eyes."
Kendryth smiles.

Songie says, "ahh"
Songie nods to Kendryth.

You grin at Allanor.
You say, "Perhaps for you, though I would rather not be smitten down by Nevrek's blade again."
You nod to Allanor.

Allanor says, "Dun give him attention then."

You think to yourself, "I must choose my words carefully.  Nothing but truth, yet.. nothing to show otherwise."

Nofret asks, "Why does he not have an empath restore his eyes, then?"

Tarkisis says, "Ah but with even Jastev's gift, he would see his own end--and be prepared, or simply accept his fate."

Kendryth says, "It is a story much longer than I could tell in one sitting, m'lady.  His wound is beyond the reach of conventional magic."

Arkhaine's face turns slightly pale.

Songie asks, "what is it we can provide ye with m'lord?"
Songie peers quizzically at Kendryth.

Rinika bites her lip.

Kendryth says, "Information.  This is the front lines of defense."

Songie nods to Kendryth.

Tarkisis grins wryly.
Tarkisis asks, "And whom exactly is your enemy?"

Marvella says, "Who should we be watching for or the signs we should fear"

Kendryth says, "I do not know if there will be a threat, though this Morvule is like a violently swaying pendulum.  He has the capability, but I do not know if he will use it.  I assume he will, so I gather as much information as I can."

Marvella says, "I heard he was not to be trusted"
Marvella says, "That he likes to create chaos"

Songie nods to Kendryth.

Rinika says, "chaos seems to be what feeds the,"

Kendryth asks, "Could you tell me of what happened, what the center of conflict might be?"

Allanor says, "Buncha worms seeking attention."
Allanor says, "Das bout it."

Nofret says, "I heard that the main trouble was over a ritual and a prophecy."

Kendryth nods.

Out of the corner of your eye, you catch a brief glimpse of something sparkling.

Tarkisis says, "Evening Nevrek."

Marvella says, "The prophecy part was what I remember"

Kendryth says, "He is gone already."

Tarkisis shakes her head.

Kendryth says, "He tiptoes like a lemur."

Kendryth shakes his head.

Herry says, "quick little beggar"

Arkhaine asks, "was that sparkle him?"

Tarkisis says, "Nevrek should be interested I should think, as he serves Morvule."
Tarkisis nods to Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "I am very much a foreigner in this city, I hail from Mestanir."

Songie nods to Kendryth.

Rinika scratches her chin.
Rinika asks, "Mestanir?"
Rinika blinks.

Allanor says, "Mmm shop here sells Mestanir lager"
Allanor says, "Das some good stuffs"
Allanor starts chortling.

Nofret says, "He serves Luukos. Morvule is a High Priest of Luukos. And, thus, Nevrek's superior in the faith."

Tarkisis nods to Nofret.
Tarkisis says, "So I have heard."
Tarkisis says, "Regardless, I am unaware of uprisings outside of the Landing."

Kendryth asks, "Would you tell me who first warned you of these dangers?  And in what manner it was done?"

Nofret says, "I have only heard rumors in the Landing."

Marvella says, "I read it in the Elanthian Journal, that it was rumored"

Sayori says, "No one was warned."
Sayori says, "The Luukosians infiltrated this city in a single night."
Sayori says, "Solhaven is a suspicious place, nothing goes unnoticed."

You ask, "Rimalon, you were there the first eve.  Perhaps you could explain the threat?"
You cock your head at Rimalon.

Rinika says, "oy. And taunted an gloated at folks."

Rimalon says, "The threat..."
Rimalon says, "Yes, of course, the threat."
Rimalon forces a grin and laughs nervously.


Sayori says, "The rumors flew quite easily."
Sayori laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement.
Sayori clears her throat.


[Kendryth briefly disconnects.]


Tarkisis asks, "What threat to Solhaven are we discussing here?"

Nevrek stares at you.

You clench your jaw.

Rinika takes a few steps back.

Tarkisis curtsies to Nevrek.
Tarkisis says, "Good evening, Nevrek."

(Nevrek renders a sharp nod to Tarkisis.)

Nevrek says, "The paladin is gone, I hope.."

Tarkisis says, "The glitter of coin, and I know it is you."
Tarkisis nods to Nevrek.

You say, "You seem to have frightened him off."

Nevrek says, "Good."

You narrow your eyes.

Marvella says, "That mark of Luukos"
Marvella says, "He has fang marks on his neck"

Tarkisis nods to Marvella.

Kendryth quietly strides in.

Nevrek glances at Kendryth.
Nevrek scowls.

Nevrek says, "Humans on a holy quest.  Seeds for ruin, yes."
Nevrek turns around.
Nevrek strides away moving south.

Tarkisis asks, "This threat.. tell me of it?"

Kendryth says, "The threat?  They seek the sword once again."

Rinika asks, "but fer what purpose?"
Rinika cocks her head.

Tarkisis asks, "I understand it is those that serve Luukos that wish it. What of the others from the first struggle?"
Tarkisis peers quizzically at Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "To pervert its holy power into something foul and unnatural."

Kendryth says, "I do not know, this is why I ask information.  I have only arrived here with my Liege several days ago."

Tarkisis says, "So a taint is being carried TO the sword, not being drawn out."
Tarkisis ponders.

Marvella asks, "We would not be able to release the undead if the sword is taken?"

Kendryth says, "My Liege has sensed there is a taint inside it, small, but a crack in a dam can cause a flood."

Rinika says, "or is it already in, and dey may be trying ta get it from it."
Rinika shrugs.

Nofret asks, "Well, isn't much of Lorminstra's power in that blade?"

Tarkisis says, "Ah, that is the thing. A sword meant to assist in Voln's work, stripped of it's power."
Tarkisis says, "Is it a blow to him, or to her, that is the question."
Tarkisis says, "Perhaps both."

Kendryth says, "If they seek to desecrate the temple using the sword, it will forever become a place of the dead and the cursed."

Herry's face turns slightly pale.

Arkhaine's jaw drops.

Marvella says, "And in the center of town too"

Kendryth says, "And there is no doubt in my mind they would use it to destroy others in a similar manner."

Rinika asks, "but wich temple would dey assault?"
Rinika asks, "Wehnimer's, or the one here?"

Nofret says, "To start with, Lorminstra's in the Landing."

Marvella asks, "What has the Voln Grandmaster to say of this?"

Kendryth says, "Wehnimer's Landing.  But I know their ways, they would march toward other towns, they are ceaseless in their want for destruction."

Tarkisis says, "And what would her priestess think if the graveyard, supposedly blessed by her Goddess.. rose with the dead."
Tarkisis ponders.
Tarkisis chuckles.

Kendryth nods to Songie.

Rimalon folds his arms over his chest.
Rimalon says, "Nevrek is on the Cascade."
Rimalon narrows his eyes.

Burndearh says, "Dammit and I just left there"

Kendryth asks, "I would ask how these deceivers treat you, what are their mannerisms?  Do they boast, or do they maintain silence, but are found out by you?"


[There is a growing concern by the locals that the dead within might be raised as undead by Morvule, and that the worms could be trying to force entry to the buried ruins.  Nevrek had previously been found there trying to do some sort of ritual, hence the sudden alarm.  Many locals had been keeping a vigil there, in case something else was tried.  A small group leave, making their way to the Casacade.]


[Cascade of Tears, Promontory]
The view of the falls is breathtaking.  As the rushing river cascades over the cliff's edge, droplets of water mist the air and the moonlight refracts into a glittering curtain.  Yet for all its beauty, there is still a haunting sadness about this place.  You also see some crimson blood incense and a white owl.

Rimalon glares at Nevrek.
Rimalon sneers.
Rimalon covers his nose tightly.

(Nevrek scowls with stern disdain, his left eye twitching in obvious anger.)

Burndearh says, "Get that stinkin incense out of here"
Burndearh kneels down.

Skaster asks, "What's this?"

Burndearh removes a snow white beeswax candle from in her spidersilk backpack.

You hear your own faint thoughts echoing in your head:
"Will some come to aid us?  Nevrek attempts to perform his rituals at the Cascade of Tears yet again."

You say, "Remove yourself from this place, Nevrek.."
You narrow your eyes.

Burndearh lights the beeswax candle, which flickers and begins to burn.

Nevrek says, "To the grave vith you all."
Nevrek mutters bitterly.
Nevrek says, "My time vill come."

Rimalon grits his teeth.
Rimalon says, "I'm sure it will."

Nevrek says, "You left this unguarded once, it vill happen again."
Nevrek turns around.
Nevrek strides away moving down.

You kick at the blood incense, and it fizzles and stops burning.

Burndearh removes some white vanilla incense from in her spidersilk backpack.
Burndearh carefully places her vanilla incense on the ground.
Burndearh lights the vanilla incense, which flickers and begins to burn.

Rimalon mumbles something that you don't quite catch.

Burndearh says, "Damn damn damn... I knew I shouldn't have left"
Burndearh mutters under her breath.

Rimalon says, "I am glad that Swoops let me know."
Rimalon nods to the white owl.

You hear the faint thoughts of Nevrek echo in your mind:
"You left the place unguarded once ... you will do it again."

Burndearh says, "I have failed in my guard Alisaire, forgive me"

Lady Songie's group just arrived.

You ask, "And all gather here again?"
You say, "At least the vigil will maintain for a while yet, even if it was.. ceased long enough for who knows what.."
You nod to Burndearh.

Arkhaine says, "looks like someone was perfroming a ritual"

You hear the faint thoughts of Kendryth echo in your mind:
"It is I who should thank you, good sir.  Your taunts are already gaining me insight into your purpose here."

Tarkisis asks, "Something wrong with that?"
Tarkisis raises an eyebrow.

Marvella says, "It's crimson blood one that has me worried"

Allanor says, "Me agrees witcha"
Allanor nods to Kendryth.

Sayori says, "I think it's a rather invigorating scent."
(Sayori licks her lips.)

Kendryth paces back and forth, his steely-grey eyes searching the area.

You hear the faint thoughts of Nevrek echo in your mind:
"Oh, no, it is not taunting I do.  You see, it would be Best for them to vacate the place, likely, if they have any regard for their safety."

Skaster says, "I do not see what interest he would have here.. this is far withdrawn from the sword."

Kendryth nods to Skaster.

Burndearh asks, "Who says the sword is the only target?"

Nofret says, "I'd just like to know what that riddle means."

Marvella asks, "Not if the body under the boulder is linked?"

Sayori says, "I heard Morvule speak."
Sayori says, "That is what he said."

Kendryth says, "This is why I have come.  The sword is their main objective."

Tarkisis says, "Perhaps something to be used in ritual for whatever they have planned."

Skaster asks, "Perhaps it is a ploy?"
Skaster asks, "To distract us from the sword?"

Marvella asks, "Are they attempting to raise the body under boulder?"

You hear the faint thoughts of Kendryth echo in your mind:
"A man of your following would logically have no concern for others' safety."

Rinika asks, "or is it something they need for this sword thing in tha landings?"
Rinika shifts her weight.
Rinika shrugs.

Marvella asks, "Something that would release it?"

Rinika asks, "mebee. Otherwise tha sword would be enough, wouldnt it?"

Skaster asks, "What would the tears and the sword have to do with eachother, though?"
Skaster raises an eyebrow.

Tarkisis says, "Perhaps it is here, that the prophesy can be visualized."

Rimalon says, "If I could have the floor..."
Rimalon says, "I could explain the Solhaven point of view."
Rimalon smiles.

You hear the faint thoughts of Nevrek echo in your mind:
"It is not their blood I need."

You hear the faint thoughts of Kendryth echo in your mind:
"A mouse does not brag to the cat that he has stolen the cheese, else the cat become twice as watchful."

You hear the faint thoughts of Nevrek echo in your mind:
"I will take it, but it does not serve the ritual."

Kendryth says, "This is becoming very informing."

Tarkisis says, "I am merely speculating. The truth comes to those that observe."

Rimalon scratches his nose.
Rimalon says, "Nevrek came here a few days ago... looking for bones, and blood, and a tree, and rubbish."
Rimalon says, "Apparently he was up to something... and it had to do with these Falls... the Cascade of Tears."
Rimalon points down.

Kendryth nods.

You hear the faint thoughts of Nevrek echo in your mind:
"A clever analogy ... were I mouse.  It is the snake that steals this night, let the cats come."

You hear the faint thoughts of Nevrek echo in your mind:
"Hmm.  And it is not cheese I stole, eh."

Kendryth leans in toward Rimalon, obviously quite intent on his words.

Rimalon says, "Now... we have a couple of theories. One might be that he and the others wish to revive the thousands of dead dwarves, killed by the Kraken, buried beneath the Falls."
Rimalon cocks his head.
Rimalon says, "Another might be that they seek to revive the Kraken itself, for use in Luukos' army."

Marvella shudders.

Rali asks, "undead dwarfs..?"
Rali shudders.

Kendryth nods.

Allanor says, "Nother might be dat he's full of offal."
Allanor rocks back on his heels.

Rimalon says, "And... another, perhaps, that they want nothing at all. That it is just a diversion for... other pursuits."
Rimalon folds his arms over his chest.
Rimalon tilts his head back.

Marvella says, "Or three all of the above"

Kendryth says, "I have heard of the problems with krakens this region has.  I remember hearing tales as a boy of the dwarves and the doom that befell them here so many, many years ago."

Rimalon nods to Kendryth.
Rimalon says, "Aye."
Rimalon says, "I am not sure which I believe anymore."
Rimalon says, "But... that is it."

Out of the corner of your eye, you catch a brief glimpse of something sparkling.

Herry exclaims, "there it is again!"
Herry searches around for a moment.

Kendryth says, "You must always remember, the weapon of choice for the followers of the dark is deception and lies."

Songie smiles at Kendryth.

Skaster says, "Which is exactly why they would create such a diversion, Lord."
Skaster nods to Kendryth.

Kendryth nods to Skaster.

Skaster asks, "Are we sure that the sword is secure while we dabble here?"

Herry says, "there is a group guarding it"

Rinika asks, "mister Paladin?"
Rinika taps Kendryth lightly on his shoulder.
Rinika cocks her head.

Kendryth smiles.

Rinika asks, "may i ask a question?"

Kendryth asks, "What, fair lady?"

Rinika smirks.
Rinika asks, "what is a Luukosian seeks for in the end?"

Marvella says, "These Kraken sound evil"
Marvella exclaims, "Chaos!"

Rinika says, "but..."
Rinika ponders.
Rinika works her fingers under her flower-trimmed hat and scratches her head.
Rinika asks, "for what purpose?"

Nofret says, "The triumph of Luukos, I would say."

Skaster asks, "But how would they achieve that?"

Kendryth says, "They seek to disrupt, deceive, and destroy.  All that their foul master seeks."

Katealya says, "so if we dont let them disrupt our lives they can not destroy us and they can not win"

Skaster says, "Lord.. if I may.."
Skaster nods to Kendryth.
Skaster says, "I do not mean to instigate, Lord.."

Kendryth says, "Speak freely."

Kendryth smiles at Skaster.

Skaster says, "But the humans are easily swayed."
(Skaster glances to the southeast.)
Skaster says, "If the snakes were to persuade them.. they would present a very formiddable foe."

Katealya asks, "since when did you come to your senses?"

Marvella says, "If that is the goal but I fear it's much worse"

Tarkisis asks, "Why cannot Lorminstra simply create another symbol, or sword, or focus of power?"
Tarkisis peers quizzically at Kendryth.

Kateerina says, "but why should they get this one"

Marvella says, "The sword is tainted already"

Tarkisis says, "Let them take what they think is important."
Tarkisis says, "Then, sweep them when they least expect it."
Tarkisis ponders.
Tarkisis shrugs.
Tarkisis says, "Simple tactics."
Tarkisis waves her hand in a dismissive gesture.

Rimalon looks rather confused.

Kendryth says, "It is not so easy as that.  I do not profess to know the minds of the Gods, good lady, but I know that they rarely are directly involved."

Tarkisis says, "The sword is of little use to anyone now, as it's power is seldom used."

Kendryth says, "The sword is not of little use.  You do not see its power daily."

Rali says, "did the priest not place wardings ta protect the sword the other eve"

Tarkisis says, "It is nothing the priest inside cannot do, or a cleric of profession."
Tarkisis nods to Kendryth.

Marvella says, "But you said the tainting of the sword has begun"
Marvella says, "Will spread to consume the swords"

Skaster says, "Sir.. perhaps we should organize a full strike against the snakes in this place."
Skaster says, "They are beyond the quick reach of the landing.. and if trouble were to brew, we could do little to stop it."
Skaster nods to Kendryth.

Kevralynn nods to Skaster.

Katealya says, "that could be the diversion they are looking for"

Skaster says, "I do not think so."
Skaster looks over at Kateerina and shakes his head.

Tarkisis says, "It is not the ONLY method of blessing."
Tarkisis says, "If it were, then there would be a serious threat."

You ask, "Would you rather wait while they continue their rituals and injure those among us?"
You cock your head at Katealya.

(Allanor lounges against a tree, observing.)

Herry says, "the sword has great power, if it is turned to evil we are all in trouble"

Kendryth says, "You do not see its true significance.  A smallest trickling, the drop of a drop of a drop of its power can bestow a blessing upon a blade, good lady."

Tarkisis says, "But it isn't, so the threat is small--except to procure something that -belongs- to Lorminstra, or rather reminds the people of her."

Kendryth says, "Now, knowing that, imagine what it can do when wielded."

Katealya says, "i'd rather not draw people away from the real problem at hand"
Katealya says, "and leave it vulnerable"

Tarkisis ponders.
Tarkisis says, "Then it's power is stifled in that stone."

Kendryth says, "Imagine what it does for the temple, and for the town."

Kevralynn says, "Something needs to be done though."

Tarkisis asks, "Just what DOES it do?"

Kendryth says, "The clergy know, and I am not one of them."

Kateerina asks, "well what should we be doing?"
Kateerina says, "i feel this gets us no where"

Fita asks, "hunt them out, who is them?"

Skaster says, "We should call a snake hunt here."

Kateerina applauds.

Kevralynn smiles at Skaster.
Kevralynn says, "I agree."

Rimalon says, "Don't you get it...? That's what they want us to do."

Tarkisis says, "Embedded into stone, with an almsbox? It is a tool for gaining silvers for the temple, and simple spell which any sidestreet cleric can perform."

Katealya asks, "do you actually think this fool has any power to do anything but annoy?"
Katealya asks, "if he had any power to do anything do you think he would have let us know he was here?"

You say, "I and my neck do."
You glance at Katealya.
(Alisaire winces slightly, rubbing the back of her neck.)

Allanor rubs you gently.

Burndearh asks, "So what? We hunt them, kill them, and they'll just agree to go away?"

Kendryth says, "Do not hunt them out.  Spilling blood does nothing."

Kevralynn glances at Kendryth.
Kevralynn says, "I disagree m'lord."

Fita says, "Doesnt killing do exaclty what "
Fita asks, "Luukos wants?"

Skaster asks, "Then you say we should stand by our sword and valiant await the armies of undead?"
Skaster peers quizzically at Kendryth.
Skaster says, "We don't need to kill them.. there are other ways of securing them."

Kateerina says, "well we should just ignore them and see what transpires"

Kendryth says, "I believe their true aims stands by the sword.  I would keep my eyes there."

Tarkisis asks, "I find it illogical to defend an unusable sword. For if it had such power--why is it not being weilded in the hands of an Arkati, or avatar?"

Kevralynn says, "Well, we could imprison them, anything to stop whatever it is they are doing."

Rali says, "theres folk watchin that sword nite an day"

Kendryth says, "Killing them does nothing.  It only pushes them on, it only lets them know they've gotten through to you.  It opens the door for them to manipulate you."

Skaster says, "We can keep our eyes there.. but surely a small detatchment could scan this area."

Kateerina says, "we have been watching this spot"

You ask, "Would you have us abandon all defense here, then?  In spite of such persistant advances and damages incurred?"
You cock your head at Kendryth.

Allanor says, "Dem Arkati's have such use for weaponry.."
Allanor says, "Oh wait..."

Tarkisis says, "Instead it is embedded in a stone, and used to gain profit."
Tarkisis says, "Tell that to V'Tull, Ronan, or Voln."
Tarkisis nods to Allanor.

Katealya asks, "what damages here have been incurred?"

Sayori says, "Perhaps the Landing would be better suited full of zombies."
Sayori says, "Why not simply..."
Sayori asks, "Move the sword?"
Sayori says, "I'm sure you're all strong enough to pull it out."

Tarkisis says, "Logic suits not those blinded by the light."
Tarkisis nods to Sayori.

Kevralynn says, "There are times I would agree that is true already."

Rali says, "mebbe thas it...the sword is waitin fer a champion ta pull it from the stone an wield it gainst Luukos"
Rali glances at Kendryth.
Rali says, "a..paladin perhaps"

You say, "Remove it from a backwater town to a city for safekeeping?  Logical.  And that is where it would be better defended."

Kevralynn says, "Ta'Vaalor..."

Kendryth says, "The sword's magic is beyond the comprehension of the most skilled of your clerics.  It is of old design, and none other will be made like it again."

Fita says, "put the sword in the place they wont look for it"

Skaster says, "Lord, I merely present my opinion that if the snakes are left to their devices here, they could conjour something that could destroy us all.. we cannot sit idly by, waiting for our people to die."

Kendryth says, "It cannot be moved."

Songie says, "I recall those days long ago when it was in the hands of darkness"

Kevralynn softly kisses her Huntress symbol, murmuring to herself.

Katealya sighs.
Katealya says, "i have a question"

Kendryth says, "I do not believe they will conjure anything.  All I have seen here..."

Kendryth smiles at Katealya.

Kendryth says, "Please ask."

Katealya asks, "can someone explain to me, why anyone who had this power to do this ritual to do great evil would announce what they were doing here?"

Kendryth says, "This is exactly my concern."

Allanor says, "Dey wouldn't."
Allanor leans back.

Katealya says, "exactly my point"

Rinika says, "oy, unless simply to create confusion and split our forces."

Nofret asks, "I have a question. What do you think that that riddle meant?"

Katealya asks, "what riddle?"

Nofret says, "Riddle. Prophecy. Whatever it was."

Skaster shakes his head.
Skaster asks, "If they wished to create a diversion.. why here?"
Skaster says, "Surely, if they wished to split our forces, they could split us over the dragonspire."

Marvella exclaims, "Two by sky that is puzzling!"

Katealya says, "i'm not familiar with the riddle or prophecy"

Kendryth says, "Just from what I have heard now, I am highly alert.  They are too loud.  They are too boastful."

You say, "It was recited here a few eves ago, presumably Morvule's own words."
You nod to Katealya.

Katealya says, "presumably"
Katealya asks, "who is the one who said it was Morvules own words?"

You ask, "Do you know more of it?"
You turn to face Nofret.

Katealya says, "what better way to make us believe him than to spout off some proficy"


[There has been repeated fighting over the incense throughout the entire time, with them being lit and relit, depending on if an individual person favored the blood or the vanilla scent.  It starts to escalate again.]


Kendryth suddenly crushes both the piles of incense beneath his boots.

Marvella says, "I thought Morvule was a bit of liar and he wasn't to be trusted"

Kevralynn nods to Marvella.
Kevralynn says, "As are all his servants."

Skaster says, "Sir.. may I present something else.."
Skaster says, "Even if the snakes were attempting to create a diversion.."
Skaster says, "And they had "announced" the forthcommings of this place.."
Skaster raises an eyebrow.
Skaster asks, "Perhaps this is a diversion as well?"

Kendryth says, "I have been raised to fight against these walkers of the dark path.  I distrust anything they say, I would always look in the opposite direction they may point me to."

You ask, "Then none speak truth?"
You cock your head at Kendryth.

Kendryth says, "Maybe they did.  Maybe they just didn't use someone who's openly with them."

Kendryth nods to Skaster.

Skaster says, "This could be a diversion as well, Sir."
Skaster says, "They could be gathering forces deeper to the south.."
Skaster says, "Or performing rituals."

Kendryth nods.

Kateerina says, "i fear they are putting on a show"
Kateerina says, "and really dont have any power at all"
Kateerina says, "well i dont fear it"

Katealya says, "neither do i"

Kevralynn says, "They gain power the more we believe their deceptions."

Skaster says, "The only decisive action is that of force."

Skaster says, "I do not suggest that we murder the snakes.. merely capture them."
Skaster looks over at Marvella and shakes his head.
Skaster says, "We capture them, then sort it out later."

Kendryth says, "If something is rooted in truth, but twisted by their lies, people are more inclined to believe it."

Marvella says, "Capture?\"
Marvella rubs her chin thoughtfully.
Marvella says, "Even the thieves can break outta the jail"

Katealya says, "if you capture them you keep them in your zoo"
Katealya says, "we had enough problems with captures creatures"

Sayori says, "Kendryth, you speak truly."
Sayori says, "Let me tell you, however..."
Sayori says, "That the people prefer lies rather than truth."
Sayori says, "I tried to tell the truth the other evening, and no one would listen."

Tarkisis asks, "Interesting tactic. Capture one of the servitors, then request they refrain from their plans with the sword?"
Tarkisis chuckles.

Katealya says, "they dont care about their servitors"

Tarkisis says, "They would willingly sacrifice all, to obtain the objective."

Skaster says, "Of course not, capture them all, then they are unable to perform their rituals."

Tarkisis asks, "How do you propose that one does this?"
Tarkisis peers quizzically at Skaster.

Rali says, "and cut off their hands and cut out their tongues..then they can't speak or gesture any magics"

Kendryth says, "I would not hunt them.  It will do no good."

Rimalon strides over to stand before Kendryth.
Rimalon says, "Kendryth..."

Kendryth asks, "Yes?"

Rimalon asks, "What is your take on Morvule's Riddle?"

Katealya says, "could someone tell me the riddle already"

Kendryth says, "I am not a philsopher, riddles are not for me.  I could not say."

Kendryth says, "You have not seen the forces of the dark in full."

Marvella says, "They would corrupt the sword, possibly pretend to guard it even"

Kateerina says, "but we of haven have seen much"
Kateerina says, "our small forces kept darkness out a few months back"

Skaster says, "Yet, if we leave them here to themselves, they will continue to grow."

Kendryth says, "If you think that those who don a symbol and pray in abandoned shrines are the true threat..."

Kendryth says, "Then I pray you never see the true threat."

Songie nods to Kendryth.
Songie says, "nay many recall the days o'the four and the sword"

Marvella says, "If the sword became so corrupt it might not recognize it's true master"

Skaster says, "You do not know the powers of those that could be imbued with the spirit of the snake."
Skaster says, "They could be the true threat."

Rali says, "tell the riddle"

Rimalon asks, "Have you even heard the Riddle, Kendryth?"
Rimalon scratches his chin.

Kendryth says, "I think that one of you recited it."

Nofret says, "I did."

Kendryth nods.

Nofret says, "But no one seems to have been listening."

Kendryth paces back and forth.

Lyvonia asks, "how are they planning on using the sword?"

Sparks of golden light flit into view, circling and dancing around each other.

Kateerina says, "pretty"

Tarkisis raises an eyebrow.

Arkhaine raises an eyebrow.

Kendryth suddenly whips his head up and stares at the sparks.

Kendryth says, "Do not be afraid."

Kendryth smiles.

Rinika says, "with dat power, they could easily raise an army."

Marvella asks, "Kendryth could they be corrupting the sword so that another can wield it?"

The golden orbs of light form a circle in mid-air, and the center begins to ripple like a pool.

Rimalon asks, "What is going on, Kendryth?"

Burndearh gazes in wonder at her surroundings.

Kendryth continues smiling.

(Alisaire steps backwards a pace, looking upwards.)
You say, "A very unusual light.  It reminds me of those shards, and the chalice."

Kateerina asks, "like golden shards?"

Tarkisis asks, "Has your patron taken a personal interest?"
Tarkisis raises an eyebrow in Kendryth's direction.

Rali says, "golden light is good...I think"

Songie says, "this hath been a holy place before, seems it may be again"

You nod to Songie.

Rinika says, "i hope so."

Kevralynn says, "I didn't sense any evil."

Within the center of the circle, the image of an eldery man with no eyes comes into view.  Though his lips doesn't move, a voice speaks, "Wardsman, please return to the Council of Clergy's chambers, I wish to speak with you."

Kendryth nods.

Kendryth says, "I thought it was you, my Liege.  I will return henceforth."

Marvella gasps.

Skaster says, "The prophet.."

The golden circle waivers, and the glowing orbs flit off into the distance.

Songie asks, "do ye require a guide?"

Kendryth says, "I have made it here before, if any creatures might siege me on the road, I will make it through."

Kendryth smiles.

Kendryth says, "Thank you for the offer."

Kendryth says, "Lord Koar's justice will be served."

Kendryth bows.

Nevrek says, "This ..changes.. nothing."

Ustram Speaks in the Landing

Later that evening, Ulstram emerges briefly to speak to those assembled outside of the Landing's Temple of Lorminstra by the Griffin Sword. There is a ritual planned to cleanse the taint at some point in the future. The first few comments after his arrival were not recorded.

The dome of a large temple rises before you.  The circular building is surrounded by marble porticos and teak columns.  A promenade leads to two pillars, through which you can peer into the inner sanctum.  You observe priests, acolytes, monks and worshippers engaged in various rituals of devotion.  A locked almsbox is securely bolted to an iron pole alongside the pillars.  You also see the Brinnea disk, a raven, a wrought-iron gate and the Griffin sword which is embedded to its hilt in a glowing white stone.

He has jagged scars marring his face where his eyes should be.

He is holding an ebonwood staff inlaid with slivers of ivory in his left hand.
He is wearing a slender white-gold circlet inlaid with a cabochon onyx, a fine silver chain bearing a gold-inlaid onyx key, a black velvet cloak trimmed with golden knotwork, some long flowing white velvet robes embroidered with golden spirals, a supple white leather pouch and a pair of white leather sandals.

Thronsor says, "Aye, Ulstram blasphemes."

Ulstram raises an eyebrow.

You hear the voice of Tarkisis say, "Kill the one that removes it, and take it from them"

Zacciwie says, "Another will come and replace the killed one"

Ulstram says softly, "The Sword will not be removed."

You hear the voice of Tarkisis ask, "Perhaps not the sword, but what of the stone?"
You hear the voice of Tarkisis say, "If it can be tainted where it stands..."
You hear the voice of Tarkisis say, "Or the stone can hold the taint.."

Arimantis glances at the Griffin sword which is embedded to its hilt in a glowing white stone.

Dracoblood says, "This prophet guards the unholy sanctuary of Lorminstra; she of the offering plate.  His tales are that of pyrite; false wealth."

'Ulstram says softly, "The taint is remaining from the past, when the Dark Alliance had it in their possession."'

Ulstram says softly, "We thought we cleansed it all, but they hid some from us."

Kevralynn asks, "Cannot it be completely purged?"

Ulstram says softly, "I hopefully will purge the rest of the taint soon, with the ritual."

Allyxia asks, "Why not do it now?"

Zacciwie says, "An Alliance of Light should be formed"

Jipzy says, "If we have time."

Arimantis asks, "And if it isn't purged?"

Ulstram says softly, "I don't have everything necessary to do it now, or all the information."

Ulstram looks over at Ferdirand and shakes his head.

Ferdirand nods to Ulstram.

Aetheri asks, "If the taint is removed, are we clear? Or will they still try and desecrate it once again?"

Ulstram says softly, "That is uncertain."

You hear the voice of Tarkisis say, "If the taint was not purged, then why has it not affected Lorminstra all this time? It should be an easier task to remove the taint, if those of Luukos' calling decide to recall the full power of the taint again."

Ulstram says softly, "It is not within her temple."

Ferdirand asks, "can't it be moved within?"

Arimantis asks, "Are these things that you need something we might aid in gathering?"

You hear the voice of Tarkisis say, "Hrm.. why not simply let them have it--then purge the taint after. This way they will think they won."

Ulstram says softly, "It would cost too many lives to get it back, were the Sword to fall into their hands."

Jipzy says, "Those o Luukos be able ta dafile her Temple. They put a rat in there once at her alta."

Kevralynn nods to Ulstram.
Kevralynn says, "That is why our vigil will remain."
Kevralynn softly kisses her Huntress symbol, murmuring to herself.
Kevralynn says, "By the Huntress."

Ryshan asks, "A rat?"

Goldstr says, "was a rat right at da altar"

Zacciwie says, "It wasn't alive"

Gahread asks, "And if the Sword is simply destroyed instead?"

You hear the voice of Tarkisis say, "Would it not cost many lives to keep it safe? Your vision indicated they would return it anyway..."

Ulstram says softly, "True defilement would case this entire town to become a place of cursed dead."

Ferdirand's face turns slightly pale.

Kevralynn gasps.

Ryshan says, "Tis frightenin'."
Ryshan nods.

You hear the voice of Tarkisis say, "It has been so before."

Ulstram says softly, "The Sword protects you more than you think it does.  If it was destroyed, many things would rise that have been supressed."

Arimantis asks, "What must we do then, ta best protect the sword?"

Ferdirand asks, "like what, good prophet?"

You hear the voice of Tarkisis say, "And who is to say those hoards of undead will just come anyway, to obtain the sword."

Ulstram says softly, "You have see some of it from the Serpent's High Priest."

Kevralynn says, "Wheres Talbot Dabbings when ye need im..."

Skaster says, "The snakes are preparing in the south.. If we stay here to defend, we are just waiting for impending doom."
Skaster says, "And we do not need to send all of our forces down there."

Arimantis says, "And if we follow them, they will have succeded in luring us away from the sword"

Merryleon asks, "How south?"
Merryleon says, "I've been killed by the High Priest of Luukos."

Zacciwie says, "The undead stand no chance. The Order of Voln will release them before they can come within a few paces of the sword"

Ulstram says softly, "The focus is here on the Sword, not in the South."

Jipzy says, "They be tryin ta pull us way from here."

Kevralynn asks, "May I ask why you wish to know of the mana foci around ere?"
Kevralynn glances at Ulstram.

Ulstram nods in Jipzy's direction.

Skaster says, "The focus will be here when the forces from the south march here to steal the sword, Sir."

Merryleon says, "Scouting parties, skirmishers to stall is all we truly need to deploy away from here."

Arimantis says, "They want us to follow, leavin it unguarded"

Dracoblood says, "This blind elven phrophet feeds you lies, and you lap it up!  He wishes to fool us into protecting a worthless sword, rather than take the war to the enemy."
Dracoblood stares at Arimantis.

Skaster says, "Of course we wouldn't leave it unguarded."

Gahread says, "I think we have a volunteer to lead a skirmishing party already."
Gahread grins at Dracoblood.

Azerius says, "he was hit in the head as a child,dracoblood cananae helps it"

Goldstr begins chuckling at Azerius.

Merryleon says, "Dracoblood looks like he got spat out of the Eye of V'Tull."

Ulstram says softly, "There is taint amongst you, masquerading as friend.  You must be aware of this, and be vigilant."

Arimantis asks, "There anyone that appear in town recently, that no one knew afore?"

Skaster says, "Something I do not understand.."
Skaster says, "Ulstrum speaks words to make us paranoid.. yet he urges we stay all stay to defend the sword."

Zacciwie says, "Blind people have very good senses. I hear they've senses normal people don't have"

Loerya asks, "Ye say ye can tell a person's faith just by being around them?"

Ulstram says softly, "It is not for me to unmask those with the taint, yet anyhow."

Jipzy says, "that's what the snakes be afta."

Skaster says, "It does not make sense. We see a boulder rolling towards us yet we wait for it."

Ryshan asks, "Ya means, dere be more dan one tainted soul?"
Ryshan gawks at Ulstram.

Ulstram turns his face towards Skaster, as if he was gazing at him.

Azerius says, "well..if yas see da boulder..jump out da way"

Ulstram says softly, "As I said, I will be doing a ritual in a few days to remove it.  It has been in the Sword since the last war over it."

Merryleon says, "Hrm, there was a taint in the Chalice when the Vishmiir were banished."

Ulstram says softly, "I should be returning to the Council of Clergy chambers, the meetings should be reconveneing soon."

Merryleon says, "Wonder if there is a place in the temple where we could speak without concern of tained ones."

Dispater says, "We should cleanse them from the face of our world.."

Merryleon says, "Walk in Her light, Ulstram."

You lean back.

Ulstram says softly, "I most likely will be stuck in meetings through dawn, but do stay and watch the Sword if you're able."

Ulstram turns and walks slowly into the temple, his staff touching the ground in front of himself.

Merryleon says, "May her Light shine upon thee, Prophet."


[A short time later.]


Brinnea says, "Still want this sword to do some tricks or something."

Goldstr chuckles.

A circle of golden runes suddenly appears on the ground, flaring a brilliant hue for a moment before they fade away again.
