Summary

 • Breshon Caulfield invites everyone to the War Room of the Hendoran outpost for dinner. There he says that Prax has painlessly extracted some blood samples from Larsya and will be along later, needing an escort to Melgorehn's Reach.
 • Prax arrives, affirming that he has recovered from the attack weeks prior. Hlendril threatens him with a claidhmore over being an Imperial until he is barred from the area by Prax's giantman assistant Snout and Hendoran soldiers.
 • Maylan asks Prax if he's made any progress toward a cure and he replies that he hopes to do that tonight by observing a blood sample in the moon chamber.
 • Maylan asks if she can attempt to heal his legs, but Prax says there is no healing them; Xorus asks what happened and he says Kragnack and his demons wielded "dark and corrupted magics" when they struck Idolone. Shinann asks how Idolone was defended and Prax says it wasn't at first, but allies from Wehnimer's Landing and the Empire eventually drove them back--including the aid of a chimera in the sky rumored to have been controlled by Magister Bekke.
 • To proceed to the Reach, Sir Cryheart gives lead to Sir Geijon, who gives lead to Commander Roblar, who leads but relies upon Chaoswynd to lower the drawbridge, press the runes to lower the stairs, and bring the wooden cab down from the summit.
 • While riding the cab, Prax mentions the need for a portal and Magister Raelee suggests that it might be possible to adjust the portal to the Bleaklands, left behind by Grand Magister Dennet Kestrel, for multiple destinations.
 • Ysharra asks Prax if he knows why the White Sparrows attacked, but he says he does not. However, he heard that Thadston sent word south and he (Prax) provided him (Thadston) with names of contacts in Idolone to aid him.
 • After arriving at the top of the Reach, Prax withdraws a vial of black blood and pours half of it onto the altar in the moon chamber in a near perfect circle. As rays of moonlight shine down upon the altar, the blood begins to shift, rise, expand, stretch, spread, rise, and fall, thrashing about as if grasping for something, before finally going still when the moonbeams cease.
 • Prax cleans the altar, saying that the blood is "perfected," "pure," and "a paragon form of what it could be." He says that Larsya's stasis can be reverted, but that he does not yet know how.
 • Ysharra asks if he is The Alchemist; Prax says he is an alchemist and not sure what else she means, though he heard her tone as accusatory and says it was poorly timed.
 • Zosopage says the blood was drawn by the moonlight and asks what if Larsya laid on the altar, but Prax says that it wasn't the moonlight, but time itself--"a temporal reaction to another temporal reaction." Xorus says it is consistent with his study of the matter.
 • Leafiara asks if this means that Breshon has declined Grishom Stone's offer; Prax says not yet, but based on this new revelation he will strongly advise him to decline.
 • Balley asks Prax why he thinks it would be a bad decision to accept Stone's offer if he (Prax) can't heal Larsya; Prax says Grishom Stone is an evil man and it's always a bad decision to take his aid.
 • Mayor Lylia asks if the blood can be neutralized to become less pure or potent; Prax says perhaps.
 • Prax muses about whether the creation holds more purpose than aging a target to death; Magister Raelee believes it does. He asks her for tomes regarding Toullaire both before and after its fall, regarding herbs, plants, and other things in the environs.
 • Prax mentions a concern over what will happen to Larsya's mind even if her youth is restored and that additional protections might be needed. He expresses a desire to meet with Xorus soon. As a one time temporal event occurs that allows everyone to return to the ground level with the Symbol of Return, Cruxophim also offers his aid in any way necessary. At last, Prax departs for the night.

Breshon's Dinner

Thunder rumbles in the distance.

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see some stone benches with some stuff on it and an herbal remedy donation bin.

A clap of thunder echoes across the heavens.

A hooded figure walks by, pulling at their cowl to keep their face shielded from the pouring rain. The figure stands near Leafiara for but a brief moment, then walks off.

[Over the amunet, Breshon is heard inviting us to dinner.]

Breshon: "Good evening all."

Breshon: "I am finishing a few things, then I will call for you all soon, if you wish to join me for some dinner this eve."

Breshon: "I shall meet you all down at the courtyard of the Outpost."

Cryheart: "We are on our way."

[Sir Cryheart leads us to the outpost.]

[Outpost, Outer Courtyard]

A pair of Hendoran soldiers stand at attention on either side of a black iron portcullis which leads outside the outpost. Beyond them, the courtyard fills a space between the outer wooden wall and an inner wall made of stone, where a fortified keep rises behind it. Above, imperial soldiers slowly walk the parapet of the outer wall, their eyes focused on the horizon. You also see a grey brick tavern.

Cryheart: "Ye meant the outer courtyard, Lord Breshon?"

Breshon: "Ah, well, yes. There's plenty prepared."

Breshon: "I trust Sir Cryheart recalls the way to the War Room upstairs?"

[Sir Cryheart leads us about, searching for the war room...]

Breshon: "I suppose not. I hear plenty of footsteps outside."

[...and eventually finds it.]

Sir Cryheart's group just went through a set of large wooden doors.

[Hendoran Outpost, War Room]

The room is bare but for a long conference table and a number of chairs pushed under it while not in use. Situated in the middle of the table is a map of Wehnimer's Landing and nearby environs. Neatly lined up on one side of the map are a set of miniatures depicting Hendoran troops and potential enemies. Near a small window rests an empty gilded birdcage. You also see a set of large wooden doors, a huge metal-framed slate hanging on a nearby wall and a long oak table with some stuff on it.

Breshon stands up.

Breshon bows.

Breshon says, "Were I a maiden in danger, good Sir, I am now dead."

Breshon begins chuckling at Cryheart!

Cryheart begins chuckling at Breshon!

Cryheart says, "If ye were a maid, I would make faster haste."

Breshon says, "We need wider halls."

Cryheart winks at Breshon.

Breshon says, "...and signs."

Speaking to Breshon, Lylia says, "Or perhaps some maidens save themselves, and she would merely be awaiting us while tapping an impatient foot."

Breshon nods at Lylia.

Speaking to Breshon, Maylan says, "I thought it best not to show up empty handed."

Maylan offers Breshon a bottle of gilt silver-labeled rich port wine.

Breshon says, "More often than not."

Breshon accepts Maylan's port wine.

Breshon bows to Maylan.

Breshon says, "My thanks."

Lylia flashes a quick grin.

Breshon says, "Please, have a seat."

Breshon indicates a simple wood chair as a possible option.

Breshon says, "And enjoy."

Breshon indicates a long oak table as a possible option.

[Most of the assembled audience members have a seat and help themselves to food and drink.]

Speaking to Puptilian, Raelee asks, "And why were you in there to notice in the first place?"

Speaking to Breshon, Hlendril says, "Hi."

Breshon nods at Hlendril.

Breshon says, "Eve."

Sir Bristenn just arrived.

Hlendril says, "I thought the reply was a Lightning bolt, Breshon."

Breshon grins at Bristenn.

Breshon grins at Raelee.

Speaking flatly to Breshon, Raelee says, "... Lord Breshon."

Breshon peers quizzically at Hlendril.

Bristenn bows respectfully before Breshon, his eyes fixed firmly on the ground.

Breshon asks, "Pardon?"

Hlendril shrugs at Breshon.

Speaking firmly to Breshon, Bristenn greets, "Lord Caulfield."

Speaking to Breshon, Ysharra asks, "Is the manticore one of your own hunt's yield?"

Ysharra glances at a skewer of grilled manticore on a long oak table.

Breshon nods at Ysharra.

(Xorus glances at the table with the soldier miniatures.)

Breshon grins at Xorus.

Breshon asks, "Eyeing the map and pieces?"

Breshon says, "I suppose we must add some carved wooden elven ones in time."

Breshon says, "In time."

Xorus grins at Breshon.

Speaking to Breshon, Ysharra says, "Do you hunt with a bow? I don't eat meat, so I don't hunt such for sustenance. They move so quickly."

Xorus says, "That would be the wisdom of foresight."

Cryheart recites:

"A toast to Lord Breshon and Lady Larsya"

[Many of we guests raise our drinks in toast.]

Breshon takes a drink from his port wine.

Cryheart recites:

"May their lives be long and fruitful"

Breshon nods at Ysharra.

Breshon says, "A bow, and a blade."

When To and When Not To Extract Blood

Breshon says, "Thank you all for coming. I apologize for last evening, I was attending to other matters late into the eve."

Breshon says, "We carefully extracted some blood samples from my sister."

Breshon says, "Painlessly, I will add. Thankfully."

Breshon says, "Prax is skilled most certainly."

Dergoatean says, "She wouldn't remember it."

Breshon says, "I would."

Breshon nods at Dergoatean.

Dergoatean agrees with Breshon.

Speaking to Breshon, Hlendril asks, "Is the food ok to eat?"

Breshon says, "He should be about later, he claimed to need some assistance tonight."

Breshon takes a drink from his port wine.

Hlendril asks, "Sure Breshon?"

Breshon paces before a window, staring out at the open courtyard and rain-filled sky.

Breshon asks, "It rains always doesn't it?"

Breshon chuckles.

Breshon peers quizzically at Hlendril.

Breshon asks, "Sure what?"

Speaking to Breshon, Hlendril says, "Might be laced with poison."

Breshon says, "I understand Frontier Days is coming up. I've arranged for the labratory in the Outpost to be raffled off."

Breshon grins at Raelee.

Neovik says, "Sometimes it even rains blood or fire... or demons..."

Breshon says, "I jest..."

Breshon chuckles.

Waq says, "Better than the cold in Ice Mule to my thinking."

Speaking to Breshon, Raelee asks, "... why?"

Breshon says, "I merely wanted to see how white the Magister's fires truly got."

Breshon chuckles.

Raelee glances at Breshon.

Raelee's gaze takes on an intense focus as her eyes flare brilliantly with a hot white glow.

Breshon says, "Point taken."

Breshon nods.

Breshon smirks.

Breshon takes a drink from his port wine.

Breshon looks rather relaxed.

Breshon helps himself to a handful of dried blueberries.

Breshon takes a bite of his dried blueberries.

Speaking pointedly to Breshon, Raelee says, "You were speaking of blood samples."

Breshon nods at Raelee.

Breshon says, "Nothing like discussing blood over dinner."

Breshon begins chuckling at Raelee!

Breshon says, "But yes. Prax has mentioned he needed some escorting this eve. I invited him to the dinner."

Shinann asks, "Where is his giantman?"

Bristenn evenly ventures, "To where and what end, your lordship?"

Speaking softly to Breshon, Balley asks, "What kind of escorting is he requiring this eve?"

Breshon says, "Ah, the large giantman Snout? He is here as well."

Breshon says, "He mentioned to the Reach."

Shinann says, "I see."

You hear the sound of crude wheels rolling nearby.

Breshon says, "Ah, it seems he will join us."

Breshon nods.

Hlendril nods at Breshon.

Speaking to Breshon, Hlendril says, "I prolly should go."

Breshon bows to Hlendril.

Breshon says, "Very well."

Speaking to Breshon, Maylan asks, "I assume Larsya is fast asleep and will not be joining us?"

Breshon nods at Maylan.

With hands on the sides of his crude wheeled chair, Praxopius rolls into the room, smiling then folding his hands in his lap.

Speaking to Breshon, Hlendril says, "Quick to dismiss."

[Our town greets Prax.]

Breshon says, "You dismissed yourself sir."

Praxopius grins.

Praxopius says, "Hello everyone."

Praxopius says, "I'd bow but..."

Praxopius smirks.

Speaking to Praxopius, Leafiara says, "Hopefully no more trouble since that nasty time in town a few weeks back."

Breshon shakes his head.

Speaking slowly to Praxopius, Raelee says, "... Praxopius."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra asks, "How are you? Have you recovered from your spill some weeks ago?"

Praxopius grins at Raelee.

Praxopius says, "Oh, indeed."

Praxopius nods at Ysharra.

Praxopius exclaims, "Thanks!"

Bristenn measuredly observes, "..Master Praxopius."

Praxopius says, "Please, call me Prax. Sir Bristenn."

Praxopius nods at Bristenn.

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "You know, there was a fellow a few nights afterward who had his eyes removed. Some sort of street justice, no doubt."

Bristenn neutrally corrects, "Master Prax, then."

Praxopius frowns at Ysharra.

Praxopius says, "I am not surprised, truth be told."

Praxopius says, "I may be a minor imperial noble now, but cut me and I bleed Wehnimer's Landing."

Praxopius says, "Just, don't cut me please."

Praxopius chuckles.

Breshon shakes his head.

Breshon walks over to the chair and settles down.

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan says, "I pilfer...procured some fine wine for you."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "I was not about when it occurred. I was sorry to hear of such savagery. Even upon one who brought some of his own measure of street justice himself."

Maylan offers Praxopius a bottle of gilt crimson-labeled pale white wine.

Praxopius declines Maylan's offer.

Praxopius says, "No wine for me please."

Speaking to Praxopius, Hlendril asks, "Imperial?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Puptilian says, "Do not believe we have met yet. I'm Puptilian but please call me Pup."

Praxopius nods at Hlendril.

Hlendril says, "Oh boy..."

Hlendril says, "Oh boy oh boy oh boy..."

Hlendril starts jumping around like a twelve-year-old.

Praxopius says, "Ah. Puptilian. Well met Mayor."

Hlendril starts jumping around like a twelve-year-old.

Hlendril removes an ancient claidhmore with a blood red heart-shaped ruby set in the pommel from in his thrak hide back scabbard.

Hlendril says, "Heck no."

Praxopius asks, "Well, old mayor, how do we address that?"

Hlendril looks over at Praxopius and shakes his head.

Breshon peers quizzically at Hlendril.

Breshon says, "Sheath your blade sir."

Hlendril says, "It's a butter knife."

Breshon says, "You realize you stand in an imperial outpost, and sup at an imperial table, carved by imperial hands, in an land of an imperial protectorate."

Breshon nods at Hlendril.

Breshon says, "I won't ask again. Your blade sir."

Hlendril put an ancient claidhmore with a blood red heart-shaped ruby set in the pommel in his thrak hide back scabbard.

Breshon nods.

Speaking to Praxopius, Hlendril says, "You're lucky you're surrounded by the Landing Elite, Four-Wheels."

Breshon glances at Praxopius.

Praxopius says, "I was born and raised in Wehnimer's Landing."

Praxopius nods at Hlendril.

Speaking to Praxopius, Hlendril says, "I was born to slit throats of people like ye."

Hlendril says, "I'll leave then."

Hlendril says, "This mess is too revolting for me to bear."

A huge scar-faced giantman stomps in.

Speaking to a huge scar-faced giantman, Hlendril says, "Hi."

Praxopius says, "I'm afraid my friend Snout does not take kindly to your threats."

Praxopius nods at Hlendril.

Praxopius says, "I am in another Lord's home, but I doubt either of us will tolerate much more."

Praxopius nods at Hlendril.

The large giantman stands near Hlendril, and the window.

Speaking to Praxopius, Hlendril says, "I obeyed."

Hlendril glances at a huge scar-faced giantman.

Breshon says, "I mentioned the successful extractions last eve."

Breshon nods at Praxopius.

Praxopius chuckles.

Prax's Plans

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan says, "Ah I meant to ask, and I hope I am not prying..."

Praxopius peers quizzically at Maylan.

Praxopius asks, "Ask me what?"

Speaking eagerly to Praxopius, Maylan asks, "Have you by chance, made any progress towards a cure?"

Praxopius says, "I hope we can do that together tonight."

Breshon asks, "The Reach?"

Praxopius nods.

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra asks, "Do you think you have everything you need?"

Praxopius says, "Oh, no."

Praxopius looks over at Ysharra and shakes his head.

Praxopius says, "I am still in the observation stage."

Praxopius says, "Which truly begins tonight."

Praxopius says, "I will need an escort up to the Reach."

Praxopius says, "It has been some time I am afraid."

Praxopius says, "And I was never truly good at it, even when I had my legs."

Hlendril just disappeared.

Praxopius says, "The air quality improved. Strange."

Speaking to Praxopius, Evician says, "I would love to help escort you to the reach, but my eyes are heavy and I have to sleep soon. No offense."

Praxopius nods at Evician.

Praxopius says, "None taken."

Breshon asks, "What do you intend, on the Reach?"

Praxopius says, "Observation of a sample of your sister's blood."

Zosopage asks, "On the altar?"

Praxopius says, "In the chamber. Maybe the altar. We shall see."

Praxopius says, "With a temporal component to her curse, it bears observing."

Speaking to Breshon, Ysharra asks, "Perhaps her blood samples might come with us?"

Breshon says, "I have none." [Unclear what this was in reference to.]

Praxopius says, "I will be bringing one, yes."

Speaking quietly to a huge scar-faced giantman, Pukk says, "You really should let other people talk some. You just chat all the time...yak yak yak..."

The giantman snorts at Pukk.

Pukk glances at a huge scar-faced giantman and grins.

A woman's voice cries in the distance, "Argghhh!"

Speaking quietly to a huge scar-faced giantman, Pukk says, "Got you to snort."

A voice cries in the distance, "I am the Black Pirate Larsya! Dreaded Scourge of the Seas!"

A voice cries in the distance, "Lay down yer weapons! Yer ship is ours!"

Breshon frowns.

Praxopius says, "Go to her Lord. I will be fine. It is good company."

Breshon nods.

Breshon says, "I am sorry everyone. I will return if I am able."

Praxopius says, "Don't worry. We'll be on top of a mountain primed with magical energies coveted by many entities and empires in the world."

Praxopius chuckles.

Speaking sincerely to Breshon, Leafiara says, "Do all you can for her--she's more your concern than we are, of course."

Breshon says, "...delightful."

Breshon bows.

Breshon nods to Leafiara.

Breshon stands up.

Lord Breshon just went through a set of large wooden doors.

To the Reach

Raelee slowly asks, "... can we get on to work then?"

Raelee glances warily around the room.

Praxopius grins at Raelee.

Praxopius wheels over to the wooden table.

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan says, "Say, mister."

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan says, "Would you ever...."

Maylan ponders.

Praxopius helps himself to a ripe dark red apple.

Speaking hesitantly to Praxopius, Maylan says, "Would you ever wish for me to examine your erm."

Praxopius polishes the apple on his sleeve.

Praxopius takes a bite of his dark red apple.

Praxopius asks, "My erm?"

Praxopius peers quizzically at Maylan.

Praxopius chuckles.

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan asks, "Do you think I should attempt to heal your legs sometime?"

Maylan blushes a glowing shade of red.

Ysharra says, "I understand Malluch couldn't be healed."

Praxopius says, "There is no healing them."

Praxopius says, "At least not yet it seems."

Xorus asks, "What happened to them?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Shinann asks, "You saw Malluch?"

Praxopius says, "Kragnack and his demons."

Xorus nods understandingly.

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan says, "To be fair, I suppose I'm not the best authority on healing legs."

Maylan thumps her candlestick pegleg on the floor in three rapid successions.

Speaking to Shinann, Leafiara says, "He was talking about healing his legs... I think."

Shinann acts puzzled.

Praxopius says, "My legs."

Praxopius nods at Shinann.

Shinann says, "I see... I am sorry. So many conversations."

Shinann nods at Praxopius.

Praxopius says, "When they struck Idolone, they wielded powerful, dark and corrupted magics."

Praxopius says, "I have life. Therefore, I still have purpose."

Praxopius says, "I must be thankful for that."

Xorus says, "Larsya, of course, is transformed with demonic blood, perhaps one cure might lend aid to another."

Praxopius says, "Oh you know. I hadn't thought of that."

Praxopius nods at Xorus.

Praxopius says, "Perhaps."

Speaking to Praxopius, Shinann asks, "How was Idolone defended from them?"

Praxopius says, "In truth? It wasn't."

Praxopius nods at Shinann.

Shinann nods slowly.

Speaking to Praxopius, Darcena says, "You seem to get around just fine."

Praxopius says, "At first."

Shinann raises an eyebrow in Praxopius's direction.

Praxopius grins at Darcena.

Praxopius says, "The demons were not endless, thankfully."

Praxopius says, "The allies of Wehnimer's and the Empire eventually helped drive back the krolvin. Or a large portion of them."

Praxopius says, "Long enough for more imperial fleets to put on some pressure."

Praxopius exclaims, "There was even a chimera in the sky!"

Praxopius exclaims, "Igniting the krolvin ships!"

Praxopius says, "Rumor has it, aided by the control of Magister Bekke."

Praxopius says, "...whom I have not seen since arriving here. Strange."

Praxopius says, "Now, the hour is late. Even though I sit all day, I still tire."

Praxopius chuckles.

Cryheart nods at Praxopius.

Praxopius asks, "Shall we head to the top of the Reach?"

Raelee remarks, "You see little of any Magister, despite being here."

Praxopius grins at Raelee.

Raelee gives a sidelong glance at Praxopius.

Praxopius asks, "You are wounded?"

Praxopius says, "Very well."

Praxopius says, "I will accept your invitation to a date."

Praxopius nods at Raelee.

Praxopius says, "You have a strange way of asking, but to each their own."

Praxopius chuckles.

Speaking bluntly to Praxopius, Raelee says, "Fine. We will meet in the laboratory."

[OOC: Prax gets disconnected, then comes back shortly after.]

Praxopius twists his head slightly, cracking his neck. He looks relieved.

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan says, "I trust you had a productive privy trip."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "Got your -"

Praxopius says, "Indeed."

Praxopius asks, "So then, do I just, follow you?"

Praxopius peers quizzically at Cryheart.

Praxopius chuckles.

Cryheart says, "Apparently."

Cryheart says, "I can get ye there, I think."

Praxopius wheels towards Cryheart, navigating through the crowd.

Praxopius joins Cryheart's group.

Praxopius says, "I should get front line access."

Praxopius taps his chair.

Geijon asks, "What is our destination?"

Praxopius says, "The top of the Reach."

Praxopius asks, "Well?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Geijon asks, "May we go armed?"

Cryheart says, "Shall we go."

Praxopius says, "Why not."

[Sir Cryheart gives the lead to Sir Geijon, who begins leading us toward the Reach.]

Praxopius takes a bite of his dark red apple.

Praxopius takes a bite of his dark red apple.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Gate House]

You are in a cylindrical chamber carved from the stone of the mountain. Prominent in the center is a large, stone chair with an iron chest next to it. Against the east wall is a raised platform, about 20 feet high, with a wooden battlement on top.

Praxopius asks, "We can teleport home, can we not?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Geijon says, "We can."

Praxopius says, "Thank Kai."

[OOC: ordinarily I believe we can't teleport home.]

Geijon designates Roblar as the new leader of the group.

Chaoswynd walks up to the platform and, after a moment's consideration, begins to climb up one of its sides...

With great care and skill, Chaoswynd maneuvers his way up the tricky stone surface and then pulls himself over the top of the battlement. You hear a small thud as he lands out of sight. [There he was lowering the drawbridge.]

You hear very soft footsteps.

Leafiara amusedly says, "Well, at least someone remembers what to do."

Chaoswynd joins Roblar's group.

Commander Roblar's group just went out.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Landing]

The cliff trail comes to an abrupt halt at a sheer drop off. It seems the ledge continues onward after about a forty yard gap. Cut into the mountain side, by means that you cannot imagine, is a perfectly round opening which is large enough to enter. You also see a mountain path and what appears to be a giant, stone draw bridge which is presently spanning the gap to the ledge on the other side.

Speaking to Leafiara, Chaoswynd says, "I imagine I'll be doing that a lot along the way."

Commander Roblar's group just went across what appears to be a giant, stone draw bridge which is presently spanning the gap to the ledge on the other side.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Stone Bridge]

The stone bridge is smoothly cut and has weathered its age well with few cracks. It spans the gap between the east and west ledge easily. Two large, hemp ropes on either side run tautly up to slots in an overhang above.

Commander Roblar's group just went east.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Landing]

The downward side of this trail rests at the pivot of a giant, stone draw bridge and continues upward to the east. The ledge is narrow here, and there is an overhang above which limits your view. You also see the stone draw bridge that is presently lowered and you can cross it.

Commander Roblar's group just went east.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Ledge]

The trail winds up the mountain eastward, and down westward. At this section the ledge is in terrible shape. Large, fresh cracks run over the side and small chunks of rock continue to tumble away as you walk on it. This looks dangerous!

Commander Roblar's group just went east.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Slope]

You are at the base of a slope which runs straight up the mountain, leading to a point where the trail turns and climbs westward to the mountaintop. The slope is very steep but does not appear too difficult to run up. The way continues down from here.

Chaoswynd points at a steep slope.

[Though with some difficulty, our group proceeds up the slope.]

[Melgorehn's Reach, Ledge]

You are on a thin, rocky ledge that continues up the mountain to the west. A slope provides a precarious descent to the trail leading down below you.

Praxopius grins.

Commander Roblar's group just went west.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Ledge]

You are on the narrow ledge trail of the mountain. The path up continues to the west and down to the east. Far above you can see what appears to be a gigantic gash in the face of the mountainside, looking somewhat like a cave created by an explosion from within.

Commander Roblar's group just went west.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Staircase]

The trail up the mountain ends here at the base of a sheer, 50-foot cliff face. In front of this is a series of four stone pillars that seems to be some sort of unusual staircase. There are also some strange markings on the mountain wall.

Roblar deeply says, "Ok les move."

Roblar deeply says, "Will let da master of lore handle dis."

Roblar whistles tunelessly to himself.

Chaoswynd touches the Z rune. With a loud grinding sound, the third step raises into the proper position. Only one step is in position. Curiously the E rune seems to have shifted position. It is now lined up under the R rune.

Chaoswynd touches the S rune. With a loud grinding sound, the first step raises into the proper position. Two steps are in position. Curiously the E rune seems to have shifted position. It is now lined up under the S rune.

Chaoswynd touches the O rune. With a loud grinding sound, the second step raises into the proper position. Three steps are in position. Curiously the E rune seems to have shifted position. It is now lined up under the R rune.

Chaoswynd touches the S rune. Nothing happens.

Chaoswynd touches the E rune. With a loud grinding sound, all three of the raised steps lower into the ledge.

With some difficulty, Chaoswynd just scampered up the huge stone steps of the staircase.

[The group proceeds up the staircase.]

[Melgorehn's Reach, Cliff Top]

You are on a narrow ledge heading west. The east side stops at a cliff which drops about 50 feet before the trail continues west again. You also see an unusual stone staircase which leads down.

Lylia says, "Whatever works, I suppose."

Speaking incredulously to Chaoswynd, Leafiara asks, "How did you do that?"

Roblar deeply says, "Guud work."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chaoswynd says, "Magic."

Lauranathalasa says, "I think he got lucky."

Roblar deeply says, "Trial and error."

Chaoswynd amusedly says, "I've only been up here a few hundred times."

Praxopius breaks out in a sweat.

Maylan removes some clear spring water from in her paeline cloak.

Maylan offers Praxopius some clear spring water.

Praxopius accepts Maylan's clear spring water.

Praxopius nods at Maylan.

Praxopius takes a drink from his clear spring water.

Commander Roblar's group just went west.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Stream]

The mountain trail ends here, opening into a wide area that provides a good place to rest. Progress to the west ends with an exposure of several thousand feet. You notice a wooden beam trellis which runs from this point up the side of the mountain to quite a distance above you. On one side, a freshwater mountain stream tumbles out of an opening into a pool. You also see a stream that is currently running under an open wooden dam which is allowing it to drain back into a mountain fissure.

Chaoswynd walks up to the wooden dam slat and pushes on it. It slides closed after a few heaves. The mountain stream is diverted and begins to wash over the side of the mountain where it splashes against a large paddle wheel contraption jutting out of a tall slot in the side of the mountain. The wheel groans a little and then begins to turn forward under the pressure of the stream.

Chaoswynd slowly says, "Now you wait."

Roblar deeply says, "Surely we not all fit."

Praxopius says, "We will try."

Praxopius chuckles.

Chaoswynd amusedly says, "I think you folks can figure out the rest, hmm? Going to head on back home and call it a night, methinks."

Praxopius takes a drink from his clear spring water.

Chaoswynd waves.

Praxopius waves.

[Quite a bit of idle chatter as we wait for the cab to arrive.]

Speaking to Praxopius, Geijon asks, "Have you been up here before?"

Praxopius says, "Yes, long ago."

Praxopius says, "Voln has quite the sense of humor."

Praxopius looks up at the mountain side.

Praxopius says, "Still not here."

Praxopius frowns.

A wooden cab, riding on the trellis, crawls down the side of the mountain and comes to a clunky stop, level with the ledge. You hear the sound of the paddle wheel slamming to a halt and the water splashing uselessly off of it.

Praxopius lets out a cheer!

Praxopius just entered a wooden cab which is riding the wooden trellis and is presently parked at the level of the ledge allowing easy entry.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Lift]

This is an open-air, wooden box which is suspended on a beam trellis that is precariously attached to the side of the mountain. There are plenty of openings which afford a great view, but the cab itself is covered (probably to guard against falling rocks).

Maylan says, "Ha! THIRD."

Lylia smugly says, "First."

Praxopius joins Roblar's group.

Praxopius says, "Second."

Praxopius says, "We need a portal setup."

Praxopius nods at Raelee.

Praxopius chuckles.

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee says, "Agreed."

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan says, "Alright. If you see a little blue thing, kill it on sight."

Maylan reaches inside one of the containers hanging from her leather bandolier and grabs a silver-hilted white jade dagger coated with fresh blood.

Maylan offers Praxopius a silver-hilted white jade dagger coated with fresh blood.

Speaking to Praxopius, Lylia says, "This should give us a moment to talk, then, I believe."

Praxopius declines Maylan's offer.

Maylan shrugs her shoulders, lifting her wings slightly.

Maylan tosses a silver-hilted white jade dagger coated with fresh blood into one of the containers hanging from her leather bandolier.

Speaking neutrally to Praxopius, Raelee says, "Grand Magister Dennet left something behind that may help in constructing such."

Praxopius asks, "Oh?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "You heard us talking about the krolvin earlier, surely."

Praxopius says, "I think so? I'm sorry, plenty of voices."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "Do you know why the Sparrows attacked us? You know their ways so well, obviously..."

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee says, "A room was constructed to anchor portals out of. It is currently directed at the Bleaklands, but closed. I see no reason why some adjustments could not be made for multiple destinations."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra asks, "You've adopted their customs. Perhaps you've heard something?"

Praxopius says, "I am afraid I do not. The Sparrows were never, something I'd describe as a custom."

Speaking to Praxopius, Shinann asks, "How do you describe them?"

Praxopius says, "I appreciate their hatred for the krol. But, our differences end at their relentless savagery and fashion."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "I've not heard of them attacking other human settlements before. Well, predominently human."

Speaking to Praxopius, Lylia says, "Indeed, and that savagery was turned on us not long ago."

The cab continues up the side of the mountain.

A ledge comes into view and the cab grinds to a clunky halt.

Commander Roblar's group just went out.

[Melgorehn's Reach, Lift Apex] You are on a small shelf on the face of the mountain, very near its summit. The air is terribly misty and above you lurks the bottom of a cloud, looking strangely unnatural this near. The view of the lands below is spectacular and frightening at the same time. The side of the mountain from this point up is completely hidden behind an opaque wall of fog descending in plumes from the cloud above. You also see a wooden cab which is riding the wooden trellis and is presently parked at the level of the ledge allowing easy entry.

Praxopius says, "No, that is uncommon. I have heard Sir Thadston sent word south. I had given him a few names to help aid him."

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee asks, "... and which names would those be?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "Thank you. I hope it yields some information."

Praxopius says, "Some contacts in Idolone."

Praxopius nods at Raelee.

You move into the wall of fog...

[Melgorehn's Reach, Lost in the Fog]

You are in a dense fog bank and can see absolutely nothing. You realize that you can probably back out of here easily enough.

Possible paths: out

Great Lady Darcena just climbed up some thick vines.

>go vine

[Melgorehn's Reach, The Summit]

You emerge onto a stone landing which looks like an island in a sea of cloud. The sky above is sparkling with thousands of tiny stars. The Great Moon Liabo hangs silently in the sky, its surface shrouded by the clouds of its atmosphere. A tiny black point against this backdrop, Tilaok, can be seen in its orbit around Liabo. A large opening leads into the mountain at this height.

[Eventually everyone arrives at the summit.]

Praxopius wheels in.

Zosopage asks, "Ok how is Prax gonna get up here?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Leafiara praises, "You're doing great."

Speaking to Praxopius, Meureii marvels, "Amazing."

Roblar deeply says, "He az magic wheel."

Cryheart says, "He is here."

Lylia says, "He is right here."

Roblar deeply says, "Veniom lined."

Zosopage says, "Oh there he is."

Roblar deeply asks, "Gnomish eisenruck work?"

Roblar squints at Praxopius.

Roblar deeply says, "Perhap."

Speaking to Praxopius, Neovik says, "You definitely get around really well in that."

Praxopius grins at Neovik.

Praxopius says, "I manage."

Roblar deeply says, "Ere we go."

Commander Roblar's group just went into the large opening.

An Experiment in the Moon Chamber

[Melgorehn's Reach, Moon Chamber]

You are in a vast, domed enclosure cut from the native rock of the mountain. The floor is perfectly smooth but the vaulted ceiling is chiseled in an array of gothic designs. In the center of the room sits a single onyx altar. You also see a round shaft cut into the floor of the chamber.

Praxopius slowly empties his lungs.

Roblar deeply says, "Welcome to da moon chamber dose dat not been, or been awhile for."

Praxopius nods.

Praxopius says, "Thank you."

Praxopius wheels further into the room, slowly, methodically, watching the walls, floor, and ceiling, eyes darting about.

Praxopius wheels towards a wall, running his hand along the smooth surface.

Praxopius wheels towards the onyx altar and carefully removes a small vial of black blood from his pouch. He places a small patch of velvet on the altar, then the vial on the velvet.

Praxopius says, "Please, nothing on the altar at this time."

Praxopius watches intently at the vial, leaning forward on his wheeled chair, inspecting the blood within.

Claudaro says, "I think it's about 10 minutes til the moonbeams return."

Claudaro nods at Praxopius.

Praxopius says, "Sometimes, sooner."

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee asks, "Have you an operating hypothesis? An expected reaction?"

Rays of moonlight shine down from the domed ceiling, moving inward towards the altar like lines of flowing silver. They merge, bathing the altar in a pale light, then fade.

Praxopius nods at Raelee.

Praxopius says, "Oh, of course not."

Praxopius says, "It won't work inside there."

Praxopius rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Praxopius carefully lifts the vial from the altar, and the velvet cloth, folding it neatly and placing it back in his pouch. He uncorks the vial then, and pours half of the contents on the altar. The black blood spreads out slightly, but stays in almost a perfect circle.

Praxopius corks the vial, placing it back in his pouch.

Praxopius says, "Now we wait."

Speaking to Praxopius, Dergoatean asks, "How will we know if this goes well?"

Praxopius says, "I would not say, goes well. I would say, if we see a reaction."

Praxopius says, "We may be one step closer."

Raelee quietly adds, "... the observer does not fail."

Praxopius agrees with Raelee.

Rays of moonlight shine down from the domed ceiling, moving inward towards the altar like lines of flowing silver. They merge, bathing the altar in a pale light....

While the altar glows in the pale light of the moon, the small pool of blood begins to shift and rise.

Suddenly a beam of moon light peeks through several tiny holes in the intricate ceiling and converges in a star pattern upon the altar. The light carries with it a strange shearing sound. The onyx of the altar begins to glow faintly blue.

The tiny pool of black blood begins to expand, stretching, spreading, rising, falling, like a shadowy amoeba.

Praxopius says, "It is drawn to it. Perfect."

Suddenly the moonbeam ceases and with it the strange shearing noise it made. The altar's blue glow fades back to black onyx.

The tiny pool of black blood continues to shift, and thrash, small ribbons stretching out, then coiling back in, like miniature talons grasping for something, before the blood finally goes still.

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee asks, "... and does it match your hypothesis?"

Praxopius removes his velvet cloth, and begins to clean the blood from the altar. He is not finished until every drop is cleansed. He folds the blood-stained cloth up and tucks it into his pouch.

Praxopius nods at Raelee.

Praxopius says, "Fascinating, really."

Speaking quietly to Praxopius, Ysharra asks, "You're The Alchemist, aren't you?" [Prax responds to this later on.]

Ysharra says, "Not just 'an alchemist'."

Praxopius says, "The blood is...perfected. So pure, despite its effects. A paragon form of what it could be."

Praxopius says, "So the good news is."

Praxopius says, "We can revert her stasis."

Speaking eagerly to Praxopius, Maylan asks, "Truly?"

Praxopius says, "Truly."

Praxopius says, "The bad news is, we still do not know yet how."

Praxopius asks, "The Alchemist?"

Praxopius peers quizzically at Ysharra.

Ysharra nods at Praxopius.

Praxopius says, "I am an alchemist, yes."

Praxopius says, "Truth be told, I am not even sure what else you mean."

Speaking to Praxopius, Zosopage asks, "The blood was almost drawn by the moonlight. What if she were to lay on the altar?"

Praxopius says, "There's more than just me in this world, hah."

Praxopius chuckles.

Praxopius says, "No, not the moonlight."

Speaking to Praxopius, Zosopage says, "There may be another step needed as well but."

Praxopius says, "But time itself."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "Indeed. But I think you might have some idea, all the same."

Praxopius says, "A temporal reaction to another temporal reaction."

Leafiara surreptitiously asks, "By the way--I suppose this means Grishom's offer was declined?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee says, "As to the how, that has been an ongoing project...."

Raelee glances between Praxopius and Xorus.

Xorus nods at Raelee.

Praxopius says, "I'm no fool, your tone is a bit accusatory, but...a little poorly timed, regardless."

Praxopius nods at Ysharra.

Praxopius says, "Let's agree to disagree at this time."

Ysharra chuckles.

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "Now there's an answer I expected."

Praxopius says, "Lord Breshon has not declined Grishom, as I am aware."

Leafiara looks thoughtfully at Praxopius.

Leafiara nods understandingly.

Leafiara amicably says, "Oh, well... that's good, then. Leaving options open."

Praxopius says, "But I will strongly advise him to decline."

Praxopius says, "Based on this new revelation."

Leafiara nods at Praxopius.

Lylia says, "It was a question on more than one mind, I am certain. Some ask boldly, some whisper."

Praxopius shrugs.

Praxopius says, "I'll never turn down questions."

Praxopius shrugs.

Xorus says, "This is consistent with my own study of the matter."

Lylia replies, "I appreciate that."

Lylia smiles at Praxopius.

Speaking to Praxopius, Thrassus asks, "What would have happened with the blood if you had left it on the altar?"

Speaking softly to Praxopius, Balley asks, "Why do you think it would be a bad decision if he takes Stone's offer if you can not heal her?"

Praxopius says, "You'll just have to forgive me. I was not really prepared for such a vague question."

Praxopius says, "Especially in light of what I just witnessed."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "I have others, of course. Lots of questions, and not all of them accusations."

Praxopius shrugs at Thrassus.

Praxopius says, "The moonlight left in time, the temporal event faded."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "But if you mean to help that girl, I'll keep them to myself."

Speaking to Praxopius, Ysharra says, "...for now."

Praxopius says, "Grishom Stone is an evil man. It's always a bad decision to take his aid."

Praxopius nods at Balley.

Praxopius says, "When you use the aid of a man like Grishom Stone, he merely removes one cup of dirt from your grave, while adding two more."

Praxopius says, "But the good news is, by the reaction of the blood..."

Praxopius says, "In theory, it can be reversed. So now we have some good news."

Speaking softly to Praxopius, Balley says, "Well I certainly hope you can figure this out and cure the girl so we do not need to find out the strings Stone has to offer."

Praxopius says, "I wonder though..."

Praxopius rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Speaking to Praxopius, Lylia says, "Could it be reversed in such a way, do you think, as to neutralize it in some fashion? To make it less...hmm, less pure? Less potent? I realize this is all highly theoretical."

Praxopius says, "Such a pure creation, with a temporal connection..."

Praxopius says, "I wonder if it holds more purpose than just aging a target to death."

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee says, "Of course it does. The potential in all of this is immense."

Praxopius says, "The blood? Perhaps."

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee says, "The gravity of all of this is diminished if we pretend it is just about an aged girl."

Praxopius nods at Raelee.

Lylia says, "You are an alchemist, if not The Alchemist. If the girl is a sort of calciner on legs, purifying whatever vital strain remains in this blood..."

Praxopius says, "And given what we know of the source..."

Praxopius says, "Magister."

Raelee raises an eyebrow in Praxopius's direction.

Praxopius says, "I admit, my library of records brought with me, is still wanting."

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee says, "As are most libraries this far north."

Praxopius says, "I need some tomes on Toullaire."

Praxopius says, "Before their fall. Herbs, plants, things particular perhaps to their land and environ."

Speaking to Praxopius, Dergoatean says, "The sorcerer's guild in the black sands has uneven depth, but occasionally really impresses."

Praxopius says, "Actually, both. Before and after the fall."

Praxopius nods at Dergoatean.

Praxopius says, "Then please, seek some out too in that regard."

Speaking to Praxopius, Dergoatean says, "We found a way to revive collaborative implosion in there, even."

Dergoatean nods at Praxopius.

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee says, "I may have something, or a means to acquire such."

Praxopius nods at Raelee.

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan says, "Listen, I"m going to get out of here before the blue thing shows up."

Speaking to Praxopius, Maylan says, "But I thank you for allowing us to witness your experiment. It does fill me with hope."

Maylan says, "Be well, friends."

Merrymaker Maylan just went down a round shaft cut into the floor of the chamber.

Praxopius nods.

Praxopius says, "We'll meet then soon Magister, for that date."

Praxopius says, "Bring some heavy reading."

Praxopius says, "It'll be delightful."

Raelee removes a gilt-inlaid faded leather book from in her silk components pack.

Raelee shows Praxopius her faded leather book.

Speaking to Praxopius, Raelee says, "... there is more where this came from."

Praxopius says, "Interesting."

Praxopius says, "If we can reverse the blood's temporal component..."

Praxopius says, "Which is fascinating in itself..."

Praxopius says, "She will return to her youthful age. I worry about the mind."

Praxopius says, "We may need additional protections in place to help with that."

Praxopius says, "So much to consider now."

Praxopius says, "We should meet soon as well."

Praxopius nods at Xorus.

Xorus nods at Praxopius.

Xorus says, "I have extensive notes on this matter."

Praxopius whispers something to Lylia.

Praxopius nods.

Returning Home

Praxopius says, "I should sleep. But no. Much work to do."

Praxopius says, "I should return."

Praxopius asks, "Can someone....teleport us home?"

Praxopius grins.

[Commander Roblar brings us back toward the cab.]

[Melgorehn's Reach, Lift Apex]

You are on a small shelf on the face of the mountain, very near its summit.

Cruxophim's eyes cloud over with dark shadows as he prepares a spell...

Cruxophim gestures.

The magic fizzles ineffectually.

Claudaro says, "No magic up here."

Lylia whispers something to Praxopius.

Praxopius asks, "Are you sure?"

Lylia nods at Praxopius.

Praxopius says, "Try again to teleport."

Faint golden lines trace across Raelee's skin as she appears to focus...

Raelee gestures.

Dark, swirling mist billows before you from nothingness, tiny pinpoints of light glimmering from its inky depths. Slight crackling can be heard from within and the scent of ozone tickles at your nose. Suddenly, a blinding arc of lightning tears through the air and stikes Raelee!

... 1 point of damage!

Light shock to neck. That stings!

The dark mist swirls once and quickly dissipates.

Your surroundings blur into a white fog . . .

[Courtyard]

A well maintained and healthy garden occupies the entirety of the courtyard. The air here is cool and crisp, but the bulk of the monastery shelters you from wind and makes the air bracing instead of chilling. In the center of the garden is a natural spring bubbling up several inches above the surface of the encircling pool of crystal clear water. A large stone and iron gate blocks the entrance to the monastery flanked by a statue of a woman carrying a crystal staff and a set of crystalline keys facing a second statue of a kneeling young man bedecked in battle-worn black chain armor. You also see a scorched black marble bench with some stuff on it and a large fel tree.

Praxopius says, "Maybe a one time temporal event occured allowing you to teleport."

Praxopius winks.

Speaking surreptitiously to Praxopius, Cruxophim states, "And yes, I'd be happy to aid in any way that I can."

Cruxophim gives Praxopius a strong, encouraging smile.

Praxopius nods at Cruxophim.

Roblar deeply says, "Lets get to da outpost."

Roblar nods at Praxopius.

[Commander Roblar returns us to the outpost.]

[Outpost, Outer Courtyard]

Guards flank the outpost's second portcullis, the entryway into the interior of the Hendoran's compound. Both soldiers clutch halberds and gaze directly forward from under polished helms. The inner wall, built of stone, looms up over the entryway with arrow slits running the length of the visible wall. You also see a stone bench.

Praxopius says, "Thank you all again for your aid this night."

Praxopius wheels off, but not northwest.
