Lobsters are live sea creatures that can be caught from boats rented via Fisherman's Quay in Solhaven. To catch a lobster, DROP a lobster cage somewhere in Solhaven Bay after renting a boat from the mangy red-haired man. Return several hours or up to a day later to retrieve the cage and you might be rewarded with one or more lobsters inside! Once caught, lobsters can be freed by dropping them near water along a shoreline or pier, cooked into edible form via the small shack at the end of Fisherman's Quay, or kept alive by regular dunks inside a lobster sphere. Lobsters are aquatic creatures and will die if left outside water for too long.

Lobster

Lobsters make for adorable, if dangerous, pets. They are caught off of Fisherman's Quay with lobster cages.

Caught lobsters have randomly generated appearances. This might include a size (small or large) as well as coloration or other physical features. As they are aquatic creatures, live lobsters require water to live and cannot stay outside water for too long or they will die. They must be returned to their watery home or submerged inside a lobster sphere, which is filled with water, in order to stay alive.

If dropped onto the ground, a lobster may try to wander off - most likely seeking water to escape before it dies. Wandering lobsters can only be picked up by their owner, which is considered the character who dropped them.

Analyze

This is your pet lobster. You could EAT, KNOCK, POKE, RAISE, DROP or INSPECT the lobster.

Usage

Verb First Third
DROP You drop a small spindly-legged lobster. Person drops a small spindly-legged lobster.
EAT For some completely inexplicable reason only known to yourself, you try and take a bite out of the live lobster in your hands. RAISE You raise the spindly-legged lobster around, its claws shaking in the air as you proudly display it for all to see. Person hefts her spindly-legged lobster into the air triumphantly, its large claws shaking around.

Lobster Cage

Lobster cages are used to catch lobsters in the Solhaven Bay. Once dropped into the water, a cage will transform into a long (color) rope-line. Only the person who drops a cage into the water can retrieve it again. Cages should be retrieved several hours to a day later.

Lobster cage can be purchased on Fisherman's Quay.

Analyze

You analyze the small segmented cage and sense that there is no recorded information on that item. It may or may not be able to be worked on by a merchant alterer.

Try as you might, you cannot get a good sense of whether or not the cage's pockets could get any deeper, but you might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the small segmented cage for you.

Usage

Verb First Third
DROP You drop the small segmented cage over the side and watch it sink into the depths of the sea, its green line floating upon the surface languidly. This section has not been added yet; please add to it now!
GET You pull on the rope-line and slowly the cage comes up from the depths of the water. This section has not been added yet; please add to it now!

Lobster Sphere

Lobster spheres are full of water. They allow a captured lobster to stay alive (and contained), by allowing the lobster to safely submerge in the sphere's water. A single sphere can hold only one lobster. Lobster spheres can be purchased from Morayna's Pet Shop.

Analyze

You analyze the glass sphere and sense that there is no recorded information on that item. It may or may not be able to be worked on by a merchant alterer.

You get no sense of whether or not the sphere may be further lightened.

Usage

Verb First Third
CLOSE You run your hand across the glass sphere, and its edges glow softly. Abruptly, the opening upon its top shifts and melds together, sealing it completely. Person run her hand across the glass sphere, and its edges glow softly. Abruptly, the opening upon its top shifts and melds together, sealing it completely.
GET You remove a small spindly-legged lobster from in your glass sphere. Person removes a small spindly-legged lobster from in her glass sphere.
OPEN You run your hand across the glass sphere, and a thin glowing seam races across the top of its surface. It splits open to reveal a small opening into the water within. Person runs her hands across the glass sphere, and a thin glowing seam races across the top of its surface. It splits open to reveal a small opening into the water within.
PUT You drop your spindly-legged lobster in the sphere, allowing it a breather from the harsh, unfamiliar world of air. Person drops her spindly-legged lobster into the waters of her sphere.

Additional Information

Lobsters left outside of water for too long will die. As aquatic creatures, they need to regularly be submerged in water. A lobster sphere is a must if keeping one as a pet.

Dropping a lobster on the ground near a body of water, such as on the coastline or on a pier, will allow the lobster to escape and return to the water.

Alternatively, live lobsters can be cooked in the small shack on Fisherman's Quay.

Using KICK to move the lobster while it is on the ground will kick it into a random adjacent room. This is typically considered cheating when racing lobsters!

Dropping more than one lobster on the ground in the same room will eventually result in them fighting one another. Fighting lobsters are brutal and will rip limbs off of one another. Lobster fights can sometimes lead to death. The Krawling Kraken in South Haven features two lobster fighting pits in its basement for those degenerates who enjoy the sport.

Ambient Messages

The spindly-legged lobster in your hands writhes and clacks its claws menacingly but can't grab you.

The spindly-legged lobster in your hands flaps its tail around wildly trying to get away.

The spindly-legged lobster in your hands writhes its segmented legs around wildly.
