A Curious Sea Creature |
A Prickly Pufferfish (Curious Sea Creature or Nyessem fish) is a scripted item that can be acquried via the Mana Trawl mini-game as part of The Inquisitor event. It can be used as a thrown weapon, similar to a "returner" weapon in that it returns to the thrower's hand, and it can support a variety of upgrades that are applied via automated certificates, also found in Mana Trawl. It can be grown larger while alive, which has a direct impact on a pouch made from them if dried out. |
||
stub |
|||
Curious Sea Creatures need to be watered regularly via their container or water; failure to do so can cause them to dry out and die. If they dry out, either through neglect or manually via WAVE, then they turn into a pouch that can be thrown. |
|||
All fish can be upgraded. Rare item drops from Mana Trawl include a rare version of the fish that already comes with several upgrades. One very useful upgrade is for the fish to no longer need to be watered. Other upgrades include sharpening the fish's spines, which increases its damage as it is thrown, although the spines dull with each thrown use. |

Standard fish come with limited or no upgrades. Feeding a fish can cause it to grow in size. The size of the fish impacts the size of the pouch when it dries out and dies. Standard fish typically appear as a disfigured water (noun). They are a "Grand Reel" prize from Mana Trawl. They can also be purchased for aevit. |
|||
Standard fish nouns (incomplete list): abysslet, blobfish, blobray, brinefish, driftfish, dumple, gloomfish, gloopfish, gobblet, kelpfin, lumpfin, lumpfish, mudgill, murkspawn, noodlefish, nubblefin, oceanborn, plopfish, pufflet, sandskate, squibfish, squidgeon, stubfish, trenchling, wigglefin, wobblefin |

This is a small aquatic creature that needs daily tending, otherwise it may dry out and turn into a macabre pouch that will likely fit a few small items depending on how large it managed to grow while it was actively cared for. In order to tend it, it must be kept in or doused with water daily. It does not appear overly hungry, but perhaps feeding it small pieces of food might help it thrive outside its normal environment while it's alive. |
|||
You may find these VERBS helpful for tending to your nubblefin: |
|||
inspect: Examine your water nubblefin for sharpened spines. Because of its intricate detail, |
|||
you may find inspecting it again for additional detail helpful. |
|||
grind: Sharpen the spines on your water nubblefin with a suitable gemstone held in your hand. |
|||
throw: The water nubblefin is quite sharp and dangerous. |
|||
hug: Your water nubblefin is irresistibly cute! |
|||
rub: Your water nubblefin is irresistibly cute! |
|||
cover: If you would like to hide the additional detail of the creature, you can cover it. |
|||
Covering it again will allow the option for showing additional detail. |
|||
nudge: Nudge your water nubblefin to hide or show its spines when inspecting or showing it. |
|||
feed: Feed your water nubblefin some food in order to keep it healthy. |
|||
prod: Prod your water nubblefin to aid its digestion. |
|||
wave: Makes your water nubblefin dry out instantly. |

| You gently flip your water trenchling and determine you have a fine specimen before you, with healthy ridges in places that could be sharpened. You count a total of 0 fully sharpened ridges, out of 50. There are 50 ridges that have been partially sharpened a total of 0 times, leaving 50 ridges that have not been sharpened at all. You think the ridges of the water trenchling could be sharpened another 500 times by grinding it with a sufficiently sharp gemstone. It looks like the water trenchling would do some serious crushing damage if thrown! |

You estimate it was last kept in or doused with water 0 days, 2 hours, 12 minutes ago. It does not appear to have eaten recently and looks very hungry. If a fish has dried out, either through neglect or via WAVE, it turns into a throwable pouch. All size upgrades should be done before turning a fish into a pouch. Once the fish dries up and dies, it cannot grow and is stuck at its current capacity. |
|||
Drying out a fish is permanent. Dried fish pouches can still be turned into the girl NPC at Mana Trawl for aevit relative to the fish type that was used as the pouch base. |

Curious Sea Creatures need to be watered regularly via their container or water; failure to do so can cause them to dry out and die. If they dry out, either through neglect or manually via WAVE, then they turn into a pouch that can be thrown. Standard FishStandard fish come with limited or no upgrades. Feeding a fish can cause it to grow in size. The size of the fish impacts the size of the pouch when it dries out and dies. Standard fish typically appear as a disfigured water (noun). They are a "Grand Reel" prize from Mana Trawl. They can also be purchased for aevit. Standard fish nouns (incomplete list): abysslet, blobfish, blobray, brinefish, driftfish, dumple, gloomfish, gloopfish, gobblet, kelpfin, lumpfin, lumpfish, mudgill, murkspawn, noodlefish, nubblefin, oceanborn, plopfish, pufflet, sandskate, squibfish, squidgeon, stubfish, trenchling, wigglefin, wobblefin
You may find these VERBS helpful for tending to your nubblefin:
inspect: Examine your water nubblefin for sharpened spines. Because of its intricate detail,
you may find inspecting it again for additional detail helpful.
grind: Sharpen the spines on your water nubblefin with a suitable gemstone held in your hand.
throw: The water nubblefin is quite sharp and dangerous.
hug: Your water nubblefin is irresistibly cute!
rub: Your water nubblefin is irresistibly cute!
cover: If you would like to hide the additional detail of the creature, you can cover it.
Covering it again will allow the option for showing additional detail.
nudge: Nudge your water nubblefin to hide or show its spines when inspecting or showing it.
feed: Feed your water nubblefin some food in order to keep it healthy.
prod: Prod your water nubblefin to aid its digestion.
wave: Makes your water nubblefin dry out instantly.
Rare FishRare fish come with upgrades already applied. Their verbs are the same as standard fish. They are a "Mythic Haul" prize from Mana Trawl. Rare fish: a confused bumpy seahorse, a spiny puzzled lionfish, a prickly perplexed pufferfish
You analyze the confused seahorse and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

You get no sense of whether or not the seahorse may be further lightened.Dried Fish PouchIf a fish has dried out, either through neglect or via WAVE, it turns into a throwable pouch. All size upgrades should be done before turning a fish into a pouch. Once the fish dries up and dies, it cannot grow and is stuck at its current capacity. Drying out a fish is permanent. Dried fish pouches can still be turned into the girl NPC at Mana Trawl for aevit relative to the fish type that was used as the pouch base.
You analyze the trenchling pouch and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

close: Close your macabre trenchling pouch.

remove: Remove your trenchling pouch.
You can tell that the pouch is as light as it can get and that its pockets could not possibly get any deeper.
Cosmetic FormationsFormations are a type of automated upgrade certificate for the fish. Some formations provide cosmetic changes, such as impacting the name (noun) of the fish or the ASCII art of the fish. These cosmetic formations are acquired via Mana Trawl as "Fair Catch" prizes. See the list of formations for the list of cosmetic options found, including both name and ASCII art.Damage Type FormationsFormations are a type of automated upgrade certificate for the fish. Some formations provide combat oriented, changing the damage type for the fish when thrown. These combat formations are acquired via Mana Trawl as "Deep Bounty" prizes. Damage type formations include the following options:
Durability UpgradeThe creature will become more durable when thrown! The damage your creature's protrusions will take when you hit your target will be decreased by 5%. This upgrade is acquired via Mana Trawl as "Lustrous Haul" prizes.
Grow Capacity UpgradeThe creature's maximum growing capacity will be increased by 1 (how many 3 encumbrance items it would be able to hold if it were to dry out and become a pouch). This upgrade is acquired via Mana Trawl as "Deep Bounty" prizes.
Critical Potential Bonus UpgradeThe creature will become deadlier when thrown! The bonus to the critical hit potential when you hit your target will be increased by 1. This upgrade is acquired via Mana Trawl as "Lustrous Haul" prizes.
