Introduced as an Event Vault Special Item, the Spidersilk Apothecary is an altering device. It allows you to collect spiders with special abilities and alterations to them that can modify your items if they qualify. They can modify items that are unscripted, allowed to be dyed, and a number of other scripts that have permission. The primary qualifiers are listed on the spiders, which can be obtained by a spiderweb in Naidem at Graveyard Temporalis, Outer Rim - (8083361). |

==Spiders== |
|||
Spiders are the working half of the apothecary. They are found by searching the gossamer spiderwebs in Graveyard Temporalis, Outer Rim in Naidem, and each one is added to the apothecary with PUT. Each spider is one of two broad kinds: alteration spiders, which add a long description to an item, and transmorphing spiders, which change or replace the item. INSPECT or ANALYZE a spider to see its type and what it works on. |
|||
If you are getting a spider customized through SADIE, do not store the tagged spider in an apothecary or a House of Spider - SADIE cannot find spiders stored in either one. |
|||
<prelog2>An Apothecary Spider |
|||
An ebonwood black wolf spider is a unique specimen that functions with A Spidersilk Apothecary, which can be obtained through an Ebon Gate Vault. |
|||
This particular specimen is considered an alteration spider that can only work with items crafted of wood. |
|||
It is uniquely crafted to add a long description on qualifying items. It can transfer one of the following designs: |
|||
1. (article) (adjective) (item noun) worked into a lattice of interlocking rings |
|||
2. (article) (adjective) (item noun) scorched with curling vinework |
|||
3. (article) (adjective) (item noun) trimmed with a filigree of copper wire |
|||
A qualifying merchant can change these designs for you. |
|||
To utilize this unique spider, you will need to add it to a Spidersilk Apothecary.</pre> |
|||
===Alteration Spider=== |
|||
Alteration spiders add one of three +long designs to a qualifying item. Most work with a single base material: cloth, gemstone, glass, leather, metal, organic, stone, or wood. Metal spiders also accept glaes, and wood spiders accept any wood material, including villswood. |
|||
In 2026, specialty alteration spiders were added. These work on a category of item instead of a material: |

* The apothecary is attuned to its owner. Only the owner can use GAZE, GLANCE, PEER, TICKLE, TWIST, or PLUCK with it. |
|||
* PLUCK only works after the apothecary has been made permanent with PROD. |
|||
* It holds 80 unique spiders, and 100 charges. Each cast of Web (118) adds 18 charges, and each web made with PINCH uses one charge. |
|||
* Alteration spiders only work on unscripted items or on scripts that allow alterations. |
|||
* Metallurgy spiders will not work on rare metals, on metals that cannot be dyed, or on items already made of the spider's metal. No spider can turn an item into a rare metal. |
|||
* BREAKing an unprotected apothecary destroys it and gives an experience orb. Any stored spiders are lost. |

The Spidersilk Apothecary is a fluff crafting and storage script that applies to miscellaneous items. It was originally released at Ebon Gate 2025. The following facets are able to be customized by a merchant: alteration spider designs. Stores up to 80 unique spiders that alter or transform qualifying items. Spiders are found in a spiderweb in Naidem. Charged by casting Web (118) at it or waving a Web wand at it.
Analyze
You analyze the shadow box and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
The Spidersilk Apothecary
Found in Naidem, the box is an octagonal contraption that provides customizations to specific items based on the spiders it has stored inside of it. These spiders perform their magic best when a web is at the heart of the box. These special spiders can be found by searching through a web in Graveyard Temporalis, Outer Rim (eastern side).
How the Apothecary Works
PUT - a spider (or up to 80 different ones) into the apothecary
GAZE - to view all of the alteration spiders stored inside by type {ie: wood, stone, etc.}
GLANCE - to view all of the transmorphing spiders stored inside
LOOK - to see the status of the apothecary
PEER - to display a full list of all spiders stored in the apothecary
PINCH - to create a web inside the apothecary
PLUCK - to remove the spider that is on display
TICKLE - to cause the stored item inside to be transformed by a spider
TURN - to 1, 2, or 3 in order to cycle through alteration designs (alteration spiders only)
TWIST - to add an item that you want the spiders to modify
WHISPER - cycle through the spiders and/or prepare a spider for removal
It can house 80 unique spiders in total. Currently: 10 of 80.
BREAK - Destroy the apothecary
PROD - Make the apothecary unable to be destroyed
CHARGES - the apothecary is charged by the web spell. You can either cast it at the box or wave a wand at it to add charges. It currently has 96 out of 100 charges stored inside.
Alterations
The box cannot be altered in anyway, but the spiders can. Please pay special attention to them.
Attunement:
An octagonal ebonwood shadow box is an attuned item. It may only be used by Firstperson.
Usage Information
he apothecary must be held, worn, or PLACEd at your feet to use most verbs. PINCH uses one charge to spin a web, TWIST places the item in your other hand on the web, and TICKLE has the spider on display do its work. The web collapses after each successful TICKLE.
| Verb | Option | First | Third |
| BREAK | - | You hold an octagonal ebonwood shadow box and contemplate breaking it apart! [Doing this to an octagonal ebonwood shadow box is a permanent decision and will result in not having it anymore. If you really want to do this, BREAK box again within 30 seconds.] Raising an octagonal ebonwood shadow box above your head, you suddenly hurl it at the floor with all your might. It smashes into a million pieces, the one spider stored inside rushing off into the shadows. Pushing through the broken pieces, you pull free a shimmering violet orb and then scrape the rest away with a brush of your foot. |
Raising an octagonal ebonwood shadow box above his head, XXX suddenly hurls it at the floor with all his might. It smashes into a million pieces, the one spider stored inside rushing off into the shadows. Pushing through the broken pieces, he pulls free a shimmering violet orb and then scrapes the rest away with a brush of his foot. |
| CAST | Web (118) | Silvery webbing unfurls from your fingertips, causing silvery strands to land upon the obsidian mirror at the back of the shadow box. The reflection twists inward, drawing the threads into its dark depths until nothing remains but a faint shimmer. | Silvery webbing unfurls from XXX's fingertips as he focuses on an octagonal ebonwood shadow box, the strands spreading briefly across its mirrored back. The obsidian surface warps and drinks in the threads, leaving behind only a muted gleam. |
| GAZE | - | Please select a base material type that you'd like to review alterations options for. Your choices are: chopsticks, cigars, cloth, gemstone, glass, leather, metal, organic, paper, stone, utensils, or wood. [Syntax: GAZE {my} box at {option}] |
- |
| GAZE | AT {option} | You gaze over the lines of your shadow box, taking note of each of the spiders stored within that can work on wood. They are: Spider Number 1 - a disjoined golden orbweaver can provide the following +long designs: (item base) inlaid with silver (item base) etched with a cascade of spiders (item base) painted in a silver web Spider Number 3 - an ebonwood black wolf spider can provide the following +long designs: (item base) worked into a lattice of interlocking rings (item base) scorched with curling vinework (item base) trimmed with a filigree of copper wire To arrange for one of these spiders to work for you, WHISPER to the box the spider # you desire. Once you have arranged your spider, TURN the box to 1, 2, or 3 to select the appropriate design. |
- |
| GLANCE | - | You glance over the species of spiders stored within the box, looking for those that can handle a transmorphing project. Here's what you find: Spider Number 9 is a transmorphing spider of the lapidary type, who can transform a foraged item into a gemstone. (an ebon black widow spider) Spider Number 10 is a transmorphing spider of the tinkerer type, who can transform an effigy, figurine, miniature, sculpture, statuette, or statue into a weaving charm. (a dark brown white-tailed spider) To arrange for one of these spiders to work for you, WHISPER to the box the spider # you desire. |

| LOOK | No web | Meticulously crafted, the octagonal shadow box is framed in glossy ebonwood. Its back wall is fitted with a smoky, obsidian mirror that seems to absorb all light. Eight tiny, glinting silver anchors rest within the corners, their tips curled so that the ring is almost closed. Cool to the touch, the shadow box smells faintly of nightblooming flowers and varnish. | - |

| PEER | - | You quickly glance over your shadow box, noting as you do fine skeins of silver script rising to its lacquered surface. Slowly, the writing resolves into a list: 1. a disjoined golden orbweaver that is an alteration specimen, who specializes in wood. 2. a translucent glass spider that is an alteration specimen, who specializes in glass. | PINCH | - | Pinching open a small alcove on the inside of an octagonal ebonwood shadow box, you release a tiny spider that quickly scurries about the interior. - |
| PUT | {spider} in BOX | Placing a dark brown white-tailed spider in the palm of your hand, you move it closer to an octagonal ebonwood shadow box. | TICKLE | Alteration spider | You are about to change a smooth mahogany ball to "a smooth mahogany ball trimmed with a filigree of copper wire." If this is your desire, then please TICKLE the box again in the next 30 seconds. Carefully traversing the skeins of spiderweb that fill the interior of your shadow box, a disjoined golden orbweaver moves to a smooth mahogany and carefully crawls over it. Spiders
If you are getting a spider customized through SADIE, do not store the tagged spider in an apothecary or a House of Spider - SADIE cannot find spiders stored in either one.
An Apothecary Spider An ebonwood black wolf spider is a unique specimen that functions with A Spidersilk Apothecary, which can be obtained through an Ebon Gate Vault. This particular specimen is considered an alteration spider that can only work with items crafted of wood. It is uniquely crafted to add a long description on qualifying items. It can transfer one of the following designs: 1. (article) (adjective) (item noun) worked into a lattice of interlocking rings 2. (article) (adjective) (item noun) scorched with curling vinework 3. (article) (adjective) (item noun) trimmed with a filigree of copper wire A qualifying merchant can change these designs for you. To utilize this unique spider, you will need to add it to a Spidersilk Apothecary.
Alteration Spider
Alteration spiders add one of three +long designs to a qualifying item. Most work with a single base material: cloth, gemstone, glass, leather, metal, organic, stone, or wood. Metal spiders also accept glaes, and wood spiders accept any wood material, including villswood.
In 2026, specialty alteration spiders were added. These work on a category of item instead of a material:
| Specialty | Works on |
|---|---|
| Eating utensils | forks, spoons, teaspoons, and knives |
| Paper | paper and stationery, including stationery paper, stationery envelopes, mail paper, mailing envelopes, mailing parcels, unbundled greeting cards, shoe boxes, and calling cards. |
| Cigars | cigars |
| Chopsticks | chopsticks |
Use GAZE at the box with utensils, paper, cigars, or chopsticks to list specialty spiders.

To utilize this unique spider, you will need to add it to a Spidersilk Apothecary. If you are obtaining customs for the spider through SADIE, please remember that after using your tag, you should not store it in a Spider House or the Spidersilk Apothecary, as SADIE will not be able to find it.
Transmorphing Spiders
Transmorphing spiders change an item, or replace it with a new one, for use with other systems. The 2025 release had two types. Four more were added in 2026.
| Type | Works on | Result | Added |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lapidary | foraged items | A gemstone for crafting (the foraged item is consumed) | 2025 |
| Tinkerer | unscripted effigies, figurines, miniatures, replicas, sculptures, statuettes, or statues | A weaving charm (the original is consumed) | 2025 |
| Minimalist | any item with a long description | Strips the long description, leaving the item's plain 15/15/15 | 2026 |
| Metallurgy | metal jewelry | Changes the item's metal to the spider's metal | 2026 |
| Confectionery | foraged items | An edible spun sugar version of the item (the foraged item is consumed) | 2026 |
| Websmith | skeins of yarn | A collection of yarn for weaving. The skein stays on the web and loses one use unless it is unlimited. | 2026 |
Minimalist, Metallurgy, and Websmith spiders ask you to TICKLE a second time to confirm, because their changes cannot be undone.

Restrictions
- The apothecary itself cannot be altered. Only its spiders can.
- The apothecary is attuned to its owner. Only the owner can use GAZE, GLANCE, PEER, TICKLE, TWIST, or PLUCK with it.
- PLUCK only works after the apothecary has been made permanent with PROD.
- It holds 80 unique spiders, and 100 charges. Each cast of Web (118) adds 18 charges, and each web made with PINCH uses one charge.
- Alteration spiders only work on unscripted items or on scripts that allow alterations.
- Metallurgy spiders will not work on rare metals, on metals that cannot be dyed, or on items already made of the spider's metal. No spider can turn an item into a rare metal.
