There are several premade options available, and depending on the release method, the player may be allowed to submit their own customization. If the player does submit their own idea, it may be considered a [[delayed service]]. When writing a custom firework, the description has to make sense for anyone viewing the firework, whether or not they are in the same room as the person casting it. In addition, portions of the spell cannot be changed. Only the italicized phrase can be customized as part of this service:

Custom fireworks are a type of advanced spell customization which changes the appearance of the firework created when casting either Fire Spirit (111) or Major Fire (908) without a target. Pre-written custom fireworks are available at various festivals, pay events, and at Bayview Villa on Mist Harbor. Fully custom fireworks are a delayed service when the player is writing their own. Custom fireworks are part of the Player Customization System and are managed via the CUSTOM verb.

Note: Custom fireworks only impact the firework created when casting either Fire Spirit or Major Fire without a target. Changing the attack messaging when casting either spell at a target is a separate service for custom bolt messaging.
