Twisted shields are scripted shields that debuted at the February 2024 run of Duskruin, in a Bloodriven Village shop called Amalgamations. They were created by GameMaster Marstreforn. They are the shield counterpart to twisted weapons and twisted armor. Acid Edition, which is the first version of these shields released, comes with acid flares and a +20 enchantment. They are constructed of black alloy, and are exclusive to the Duskruin event. Fire Edition, Frost Edition, Lightning Edition, and Vacuum Edition were later released during the Ebon Gate event in 2024, sold in the Evermore Hollow shops Twisted Glory and Twisted Lodge. Tier 1 (OTS)At tier 1 (as sold in the shop) these shields have standard (Category B) flares. Some messaging varies slightly based on demeanor. For Stance Verbose messaging, the shield will use its own messaging if weapon being used does not already have its own Stance Verbose messaging.Analyze* Twisted Shield - Acid Edition * Available Actions * CLENCH * RAISE * TILT * GET | STORE * WEAR | REMOVE Special messaging when changing stances if STANCE VERBOSE is toggled. Merchants that are skilled with this type of shield may also customize the following: * Bouche: "an angular notch" * Grooves: "labyrinthine" * Fumes: "virescent" * Enarmes: "rigid leather brace" ** Lever: "a twisted metal lever" (not unlocked) ** Flares: "a twisted, prismatic spray of acid" (not unlocked) Combat Unlocks: ** Twisted Interdiction Flares (reactive: acid): NOT UNLOCKED - Chance for extra flares when you block an attack. - Will only flare this way while in an aggressive stance. *** Twisted Assault Flares (offensive: acid): NOT UNLOCKED - Chance for extra flares when you strike a foe with a shield ability. - These flares damage the target twice when they hit. Twisted Interdiction Flares must be unlocked to enable the Lever and Flares customizations. You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the black alloy shield for you. Usage
Tier 2 - Twisted Interdiction FlaresAt tier 2, the shield gains reactive (Category D) flares on a successful block while in an aggressive stance (forward, advance, or offensive). This tier also allows access to the TURN verb, which can toggle an added line below held objects when someone looks at the character: Virescent fumes twist and churn over the labyrinthine grooves on his black alloy shield.Usage
Tier 3 - Twisted Assault FlaresAt tier 3, the shield gains offensive (Category D) flares when used to strike with a shield ability like Shield Bash or Shield Throw. These flares damage the target twice.Additional InformationReactive Flares Combat ExampleObtained with the Tier 2 unlock: A wind wraith claws at you! You bolster yourself against the wind wraith's incoming blow! ** A twisted, prismatic spray of acid surges from the labyrinthine grooves on your black alloy aegis and strikes the wind wraith! ** ... 25 points of damage! Quick strike to the left leg! The wind wraith makes no bones about it. You easily block the attack with your black alloy aegis! Twisted Assault Flares Combat ExampleObtained with the Tier 3 unlock: You lunge forward at a wind wraith with your black alloy aegis and attempt a shield bash! [SMR result: 222 (Open d100: 39, Penalty: 18)] Your size contributes considerably to the attack! You lash out with an awesome shield bash! ... 25 points of damage! Attack whistles right through the chest! It's like fighting fog! ... 20 points of damage! Smash to the chest! Good thing there were no ribs there to shatter. Your attack exposes a vulnerability in a wind wraith's defenses! Your black alloy aegis trembles with power! ** A twisted, prismatic spray of acid surges from the labyrinthine grooves on your black alloy aegis and strikes the wind wraith! ** ... 25 points of damage! Strong attack rips through the neck! To your horror, the wind wraith's substance flows around the wound without leaving a trace! ... 10 points of damage! Hard strike connects with the wind wraith's back! A thin arc of mist spews forth, evaporating quickly. Roundtime: 3 sec. See Also |
