This isn’t Yardie's fault -- he wasn’t even there. He has never once found the world boring. He has trouble reading Elven because his mother tongue is Surprise and Denial. There is a pile of bodies somewhere behind him, but I’m sure there’s an innocent explanation somehow. - Poem Written by Alosaka (prime)

Yardie is like fresh mown grass, knowing in your heart a newly forged blade cuts deepest. A trains clickety-clack may run you down, but you know he does know Jack and has been around. A fleeting Shadow that does not consume the light but caresses it gently while staring it eye to eye. - Poem Written by Dendum (prime)

Yardie is a Faendryl Dark Elven Rogue who was "reborn" in Icemule, lived in Wehnimer's Landing, and now claims citizenship in Kraken's Fall. Dubbed the "Panicky Phantom", his serves under many affiliations and organizations and is the rank Blade of the Palestra class of 5122 (Vanguard of Mahkra). Foolhardy and often wont to get in trouble, he remains a mystery, as his name, associations, and appearance in the Landing are a part of conflicting stories and speculations ranging from the Elven Nations to his assumed origins in New Ta'Faendryl.

In 5120 Yardie became infected by a squid and gave birth to squid babies.

Appearance

You see Yardie.
You see Blade Yardie the Palestra of Kraken's Folly.
He appears to be a Faendryl Dark Elf.
He is of ordinary height and has a trim build. He appears to be young. He has intense indigo-limned amethyst eyes and silken black skin. He has very long, straight blue-black hair streaked with a white stripe down the center. He has a narrow face, a flaring nose and full lips. He has a puckered, raised scar on the back of his left hand that forms a perfectly symmetrical spiderweb. He also has a tapered jawline and well-proportioned features. He has a salt-stained bright satin parrot perched on his shoulder.
He has a vaalin-swept black stone half-ring in the upper ridge of his left ear, and an inked crimson crest depicting a crossed quill and rose on his wrist.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing an enameled onyx night sky pendant, an intricately woven necklace of coppery damask and sable flyrsilk ribbons, a mithglin coil suspending a small quill, an ebon-sheened silvery lor quill, a lor triskele inset with three ebon-veined despanals, a mithglin-hued marbrinus shirt buttoned with silver, a faceted obsidian signet band, a thin etched eahnor band, a delicately crafted hexagonal mithglin ring, a polished silver pocket watch with a fine silver chain, a pair of tailored sable linen trousers, and a pair of cushioned silver-threaded black socks under a set of charcoal-hued bourde brogues with rounded toes.
An ebon-sheened silvery lor quill is tucked behind his ear.
A medley of woodland creatures stand behind Yardie, leaving a blur of fur and feathers as they scamper around.

History

Little is known about Yardie. His appearance dates to Lumnea of 5120. After a brief stint in Icemule Trace, he appeared in the streets of Wehnimer's Landing, wandering until Wolfloner, his rogue mentor, took Yardie under his tutelage and helped the lost Dark Elf refine his skills and settle into the town. Without a home to call his own, Yardie spent many nights sleeping in the great tree in Town Square Central. He spent a great deal of time in the Landing before several setbacks sent him on his way. Encouraged by his brother, Iskandr, Yardie traveled East to learn the ways of the Vaalorians for himself.

Despite these facts, there are rumors surrounding the Faendryl rogue. According to diviners and a child witness from the east, a Dark Elf fitting Yardie's description was last seen fleeing a bloody demon attack somewhere in the area.

It is also rumored that there is a connection between Yardie and another Faendryl who disappeared from New Ta'Faendryl.

Father of the Squid

While the whole story remains shrouded in the oral history of legend, some details recently emerged after another adventurer shared the same fate as Yardie in become host to a squid child.

Timeline of events

Discovery of Calamari Yardie, reportedly tempted by a stranger’s enticing promise of “deliciousness,” devours a piece of Zelian calamari.

Immediate Consequences Bizarre side effects ensue. Yardie complains of “after-effects,” though no one believes him—until the rumors of a weird “father-mother” incident spark curiosity.

Father-Mother Rumors Gawkers gather as talk of Yardie’s alleged “squid birth” circulates. He vehemently denies any wrongdoing, though “Squidie” and “Squidfather” become his new nicknames.

The Birthing Much to everyone’s shock, a creature is birthed. It addresses Yardie as “mommy,” a detail he finds more embarrassing than biologically perplexing.

The Great Plop-Off The squid-ling (gender unknown) is last seen flopping off Cruxophim’s boat into the waters of Kraken’s Fall. Yardie remains deeply torn, vacillating between relief and parental worry.

Lingering Questions Jokes about half-elf squids, possible grandchildren, and whether Yardie “sleeps with creatures” persist. Yardie insists he’s not freakish, not sick, and not interested in repeating the experience.

Recent discussion and historical context

In 5125 additional details emerged on the Amunet about Yardie's parenthood.

[General] Ealdwulf exclaims, "Looks like I'm about to be a father-mother!" [Help] Ealdwulf: "Died in front of a moulis or whatever.... Gonna have a squid baby burst out of my chest soon." [General] Ayvain thinks, "Yardie's already one of those, we don't need another." [General] Directed to Ayvain, Yardie exclaims, "Gahhhhh!! It wasn't a moulis!!" [General] Nordred thinks, "True, his kid did destroy caligo's isle." [General] Directed to Yardie, Ayvain thinks, "You're not denying the father-mother part though." [General] Directed to Ayvain, Yardie thinks, "At this point, I would be lying." [General] Yardie thinks, "I blame Zelia." [General] Asben thinks, "It's well known that Yardie birthed a squid." [General] Thuldir asks, "Yardie birthed a squid?" [General] Thuldir asks, "Also who's Yardie?" [General] Opalina thinks, "I thought it was a slimy kobold." [General] Yardie whines, "I am called Yardie, and it was years ago!!" [General] Thuldir asks, "Are you part squid?" [General] Karamilla thinks, "Well yardie is an 8 armed date...I mean Man with ...oh never mind.." [General] Nordred thinks, "Yeah, he was young. We all experiment with things when young." [General] Yardie thinks, "I am Faendryl." [General] Thuldir asks, "How did you get impregnanted?" [General] Directed to Thuldir, Yardie sighs, "I ate a piece of calamari from a Zelian." [General] The ghost of Ealdwulf exclaims, "Well... that was fun. Help is on the way. I'm the proud father of a few moulis sprouts..." [General] Directed to Thuldir, Yardie exclaims, "That's what happened! I'm not..freakish!" [Help] Thuldir: "Sure." [General] Thuldir thinks, "Sure. A likely story." [General] Leafiara exclaims, "Yardie was touched by Zelia, after all!" [General] Directed to Thuldir, Yardie exclaims, "It's true! I'm happy in my status!" [General] Thuldir thinks, "And apparntly 'Yardie' is into calamari." [General] Thuldir thinks, "Oh wait 'into' calamari." [General] Directed to Thuldir, Yardie exclaims, "She said it would taste good! It did! I didn't expect the after-effects!" [General] Thuldir thinks, "Sure Squidie... i mean Yardie." [General] Directed to Thuldir, Yardie insists, "I am called Yardie!" [General] Thuldir thinks, "You keep sayin that but yet you're also an elf who birthed a squid." [General] Yardie exclaims, "That's not my fault!" [General] Brunoj thinks, "So that squid could be considered a half elf." [General] Thuldir exclaims, "A likely story Squidie!" [General] Khaell asks, "Yardie, you still sufferein from the green rot?" [General] Directed to Khaell, Yardie thinks, "I did not have the Green Rot. Tabubu got me sick. She gave me the Tabubu Flu." [General] Thuldir thinks, "But Tabubu didn't birth a squid...? That's just a Yardie special." [General] Brunoj thinks, "Though birthing a squid may be a taboo tabooboo." [General] Directed to Leafiara, Yardie sighs, "You gonna help me with this?" [General] Asben asks, "What does Leafi have to do with you birthing a squid?" [General] Directed to Asben, Yardie thinks, "Nothing! I just feel that Leafi unders......nevermind." [General] Leafiara grandiosely exclaims, "Hail the Squidfather!" [General] Directed to Leafiara, Khaell thinks, "You don't want to pick up his sickness..." [General] Thuldir asks, "Why would Leafi understand?" [General] Directed to Khaell, Yardie exclaims, "I'm not sick!" [General] Opalina thinks, "Sounds like you have everything under control there Yardie." [General] Directed to Yardie, Ealdwulf thinks, "We should start a 'father-mother of the squids' club." [General] Thuldir thinks, "He's not sick... he just sleeps with squid." [General] Leafiara thinks, "Nobody truly understands Yardie. We just attempt to identify patterns in vain." [General] Nordred thinks, "All fairness, Yardie abandoned his squid upon birth. It ran into a field happy to be born and he never went after it." [General] Yardie exclaims, "I do not sleep with squids! I don't sleep with creatures! I'm happy in my status!" [General] Thuldir asks, "The squid 'ran'?" [General] Khaell asks, "Don't squids eat their.... squidlings?" [General] Thuldir asks, "What in the mutant squid did you create?" [General] Karamilla asks, "Into a field? Didn't it like Flop into some water and swim away?" [General] Directed to Thuldir, Yardie sighs, "He....she...it...was last seen plopping off Cruxophim's boat in the waters of Kraken's Folly." [General] Sraven asks, "What do you sleep with? bed bugs?" [General] Directed to Sraven, Yardie exclaims, "I don't sleep with bed bugs! I'm not sleeping with anyone! I'm not that type of elf!" [General] Thuldir asks, "You don't even know the sex of your child that came out of you?" [General] Directed to Thuldir, Yardie admits, "It's...it's like figuring out the gender of birds. I...couldn't tell. And its voice was deep." [General] Thuldir thinks, "Wait wait wait." [General] Thuldir asks, "Your squid baby spoke?" [General] Yardie thinks, "...mommy. I...still don't know how that works." [General] Khaell asks, "Did it say, 'Daddy!'?" [General] Leafiara acknowledges, "To be honest, I'm never surprised by tentacle creatures in Crux's vicinity speaking." [General] Thuldir asks, "How drunk were you when you birthed this elf baby that you're pretending was a magic talking squid?" [General] Nordred thinks, "Well, we know Yardie isn't sleeping with anyone. That's how a squid kid came about." [General] Directed to Thuldir, Yardie thinks, "Completely sober." [General] Opalina thinks, "Nothing but jokes today." [General] Directed to Nordred, Yardie thinks, "I'm not that type of person. Besides, I never look for a relationship based off sleeping. I enjoy things. And....I think someone sleeping with me might be...much." [General] Thuldir thinks, "They'd be jokes if there weren't a half 'Yardie' half squid talking monster roaming around out there." [General] Nordred asks, "Ever wonder if you're a grand parent now?" [General] Thuldir thinks, "He could be a grand parent!" [General] Yardie thinks, "I....worry I might be." [General] Asben asks, "Do the little squids have your face?" [General] Falvicar asks, "Wonder if it mutated into a kobold?"

Tattoos

Yardie possesses the following tattoos:

an inked assortment of animals on his shoulder

This tattoo is heavy with white and light blue hues, casting the entire tableau in a haze of freezing mist. Standing side by side, a series of forms are crouched and ready to charge into battle, though the target is lost amongst the frost before them. A white-striped black mongoose is flanked by a white samoyed and a massive grey wolf on either side, each clearly ready to pounce. Low to the ground nearby, a large pale white ridge jackal stalks the mists with keen eyes, his ears perked sharply upward.

an inked crimson crest depicting a crossed quill and rose on his wrist

Sanguinous ink in varying degrees of depth has been used to create this image, though flecks of silver and white are interspersed throughout to give the image a more liquid appearance. A sharp-bladed quill with a flared feather shaft and a tightly-budded rose with curving thorns lie crossed at their midpoints atop a bright crimson pentacle. Every turn in the geometry of the image glistens with beaded crimson liquid, poised to fall.

a pair of silver-inked shackles split in twain by a dagger on his back

An elaborate scene has been inked along the entire back. Taking forefront, a dagger plunges between cuffed hands, capturing the moment when the dagger frees them from their silvery shackles; while in the background, an obsidian tower goes up in crimson-inked flames. Below the tableau in elegant script is written, "Freed."

a tattooed leaping rogue silhouetted against a silver-inked moon on his arm

Centered on the top of the forearm is a wide full moon, its surface inked in various shades of silver and white. Silhouetted against the pale backdrop is the image of a leaping rogue, his shadowy figure stretched forward in a deadly strike, the folds of his cloak billowing behind him. Detailed on the wrist beneath him is a crouched demon with wings outspread, the obvious target of the ambush.

Path to Palestra

While much surrounding the Faendryl remained mysterious, his fear of demons stood at the forefront of his public anxieties. Because of this and other personal fears, he devoted much of his training in preparation for the inevitable, when the demons would return to reap sorrow and havoc upon the lands. While he understood the eventual confrontation, he steered away from the Trials and concentrated on aiding himself and others.

On 21 Eoantos, 5121, Yardie met Blade Arku and his wife Isola. It was the first encounter with an actual Palestra. After speaking to him and learning the ways of the Palestra, Arku offered to teach Yardie and even sponsor him. Yardie took the offer under consideration, hoping that through Arku, he would learn more about combating demons.

When the announcement of the Palestra Trials occurred in Phoenatos, Yardie entered in the hopes of defeating both personal and physical demons. After being in a person's mind due to a ritual scenario involving the demonwall and other demons, Yardie pondered his current fighting prowess. Unsatisfied with his talents, he sought out Arku on Oleasta of 5122, learning as much as possible while preparing his weapons to be effective against demons. Withdrawn and anxious, he kept to himself, lamenting the day his greatest fears would come to pass.

After his performance on the first day of the Trials, Yardie fought Ketsimney but was swiftly defeated. Afterward, he fought the Palestra mentor, Mishrac. Through his talents of shadows and stealth, Yardie bested Mishrac. Finally, the class faced the demon, a vathor. With the aid of his peers, Yardie scored the killing blow against the demon and was one of four who earned the rank of Blade, the highest rank of the Palestra.

Personality & Traits

You are incredibly ill-spoken, and you tend toward dull actions. But you are passably entertaining and loyal to your friends. Tell anyone that I complimented you and you will end up a greasy spot below my spikestar.

Skittish and nervous, Yardie carries himself with a fearful and often paranoid disposition. This nature swells to exaggerated degrees when in contact with sorcerers. He tends to shy away from any semblance of combat and confrontation, using words and conversations to diffuse situations. However, due to his penchant for putting his foot in his mouth, those attempts to quell situations often worsen said confrontations and/or result in offending individuals he encounters. Curious and mercurial, Yardie will often converse with just about anyone, his lack of social skills notwithstanding. His lack of attention to detail also contributes to many of his troubles. He is often secretive and avoids opening up to most individuals. Contrary to the stereotypes of most Faendryl, Yardie rarely exhibits any sense of pride and will toss it aside, as he is often the butt of the joke.

Despite this, Yardie illustrates an uncanny loyalty to his closest friends. This loyalty is best illustrated by his connection between Iskandr Tamarack, the Squire Legionnaire of Vaalor, and Draelor (prime), an Aelotoi. Despite the shaky history between the three races, Yardie considers them his "brothers" and will often voice this publicly, despite whoever may object. While the inner circle of individuals he cares about is small, he would put himself in harm's way for their safety. His intelligence is not geared to books and logic but rather an awareness of combat and survival tactics. It is often mistaken that Yardie's avoidance of combat equates to inability, an error in judgment that he often exploits. A survivalist, Yardie operates on instincts, often trusting his feelings over most logical decisions. Yet, behind the panicky temperament, there are hints of self-awareness concealed underneath the surface.

The Bungalow

Yardie's primary residence is the burnished orange-doored bungalow located in 33418 West Boardwalk, Nereid's Cradle, Kraken's Fall.

Living Space

Spacious and tidy, the floor of the living space is fashioned of polished oak and covered with a plait-woven dark blue-grey vaslavilen rug scattered with white splotches. Colorful artwork decorates one beadboard wall, the pieces hanging above a golden teakwood sofa covered in marshmallow-hued pillows flanked by a natural bleached driftwood coffee table crowned with a mottled glaesine slab. Near the open archway to the kitchen, a rustic widowwood desk with chamfer edges and spiral-textured witchwood armchair with a sauna backrest rest beneath a copper lantern, while in the opposite corner a buffed smoky haon loft ladder tangled in lush moonflower vines leads to the second floor near the open door. You also see a diminutive dark walnut pantry and a cherrywood market stall topped in a checkered awning.

A plait-woven dark blue-grey vaslavilen rug scattered with white splotches

Like a small piece of the ocean, shimmers of deep blue shift with the natural light, the splotches of white sizzling like a rolling wave. Plait-woven fibers twine into perfect lines and hold fast to the soft yet sturdy wool, filing from end to end with disciplined durability. Vaslavilen elevates the texture with a buttery silkiness, kissing bare skin with its velvety surface.

A golden teakwood sofa covered in marshmallow-hued pillows

Oiled and burnished golden teakwood anchors the foundation of the expansive couch, its arms held aloft in an awaiting embrace for an occupant. Puffy marshmallow-like pillows rest against the back, its pliant width encasing plush griffin down for added soft cushioning. Enveloped in a velvety bourde cocoon, the inviting seat provides all who wish to recline a snuggly comfort draped in pale fleece.

A natural bleached driftwood coffee table crowned with a mottled glaesine slab

Rescued from obscurity, a large piece of sun bleached driftwood resides beneath a smooth, ovular slab of glaesine mottled in hues resembling a storm-blown ocean at dusk. Almost as if playing hide and seek with your eyes, beneath the glass a scene made from hammered copper and bronze depicts portions of reef life below the waves. From cannonball jellyfish to a realistic reef shark, the brilliant fish and plant sculptures lend a touch of whimsy to the otherwise demure table.

A rustic widowwood desk with chamfer edges

Hues of blue and black sparkle and glisten, the oil-stained polish casting one's reflection upon the ample surface like a still pond. Sanded chamfer edges lessen the tabletop's width, providing a sleek and smooth space for reading and writing while relieving the strain on the wrists. Trumpet-style legs hold the counter steadily while providing sufficient leg room for comfortable seating.

A spiral-textured witchwood armchair with a sauna backrest

Four spiral-ridge legs reinforce the desk chair's stability, evenly distributing the weight of the seat's occupant. Flat armrests match the seat in their thickness, the witchwood's softer texture acting as a natural support without additional padded fabric or stitched cloth. The sauna-patterned backrest cradles the musing scribe, allowing for well-crafted inspiration aided by a supple recline.

A buffed smoky haon loft ladder tangled in lush moonflower vines

With soft ivory blooms cascading down either side of the leather-wrapped rungs, the ladder's smoky lilac sheen is displayed prominently with a smooth satin finish that compliments the design. Unfurling shyly with limited outdoor light, giant moonflowers interweave themselves with glimpses of blue and lilac trumpets bursting from the dense greenery. At the apex of the climb, two argentum sentinels awaiting an arrival in the form of an iridescent obsidian crow and a scrimshaw jackal.

Kitchen

Surrounded by storm-shutters, a pair of glass-paned windows looks out onto the beach from their position along the northern wall. Beneath the viewing portals, a farm-style stone wash basin is recessed into a scroll-edged smooth hickory countertop, while the walls above and to either side are filled with smoky grey haon cabinets set with helical vaalorn hardware. Resting at the heart of the kitchen upon blue and yellow-checked tiles is an ovular glossy zydris table with a floriated edge surrounded by ivory wicker armchairs. You also see a diminutive dark walnut pantry with some stuff on it, a decorative wooden box and an overflowing obsidian glaes jardiniere ringed in moonlight silver.

You see a scroll-edged smooth hickory countertop. Looking at the countertop, you see a compact copper pot still, a small metal churn, a shell-shaped copper burner, a small cast iron stove, and a farm-style stone wash basin. A dense, rectangular slab of hickory stabilizes the counter with a level and spacious area. Rays of light glide across the satin surface giving it a warm and luminous sheen, spotlighting the assortment of kitchen supplies ready for use. Scrolling glyphic patterns shape the edges, providing a rustic finish to the centerpiece of the lively kitchen.

Concealed behind twin doors carved to feature a wide willow-like tree split into bisection, its leaves feature a high gloss to contrast the satin finish of the smoky grey haon cabinetry. Vaalorn twisted into elaborate helixes offers a way to reveal cubbies and shelves holding a plethora of spices and herbs, oils, and other bottles of preserves happily tucked away inside. In the upper corner, a small albino widow spider sleeps next to a tall bottle of wine.

Glints of light provide the zydris table with a soothing shimmer, the wood-shifting hues that change with the exterior lighting from the various seasons. Four sturdy legs tapered into equivalent designs descend like spires anchored onto the well-kept ground. Floriated edges provide an artificial herbal ambiance around the table's circumference, like a hearty wreath for an elegant finish.

Ivory wicker armchairs

Held aloft by four symmetrical curving sabre legs, the chair's weight is evenly distributed for the peak of comfort. Woven white wicker adorns the seat and backrest, the weave itself soft but supportively firm. The smoothly sanded cane glows with an ivory wash, its refreshing appearance contributing to the tropical atmosphere.

An overflowing obsidian glaes jardiniere ringed in moonlight silver

Natural grooves of obsidian jut out from the jardiniere's surface like twinkling freckles dancing upon polished glaes, yet smooth to the touch despite its craftmanship. Peat moss coats the earthy brown soil, its hue darkened by copious amounts of nutrient water primed for vegetation. A moonlight silver halo encircles the verdant quintet with a cherubic chaplet.

Loft

Stretching from one end of the space to the other, exposed rafters support the peaked ceiling and are strung with dried herbs and flowers. A resin-infused driftwood bed with plush starsilk sheets rests against the flat northern wall where a pair of vaelfyren-leafed lor trees helically embraced hangs over its headboard and a large wooden footlocker rests against its footboard. Spindled balusters support a small railing that overlooks the room below, a nearby ladder providing egress. You also see a jet-inlaid pale enamel tub.

Resin coats the outside of the polished driftwood, setting it aglow with its natural lacquer. Crowned in the center, a plush, elevated mattress holds rigidly, the elegant texture firm yet soft enough to cradle those who repose. Starsilk eclipses the white mattress, concealing the well-honed fabric with dulcet touches that caress the skin and soothe weary muscles.

Standing upright and reaching for the heavens, a pair of argentine lor trees loom over like arboreal moons. Their sturdy trunks remain rooted while branches reach each other, entwined in a serpentine dance until cuddled in loving coils. Vaelfyren leaves extend like greenish-black fingertips at the end of each branch, outstretched for their counterpart's devoted connection.

The tub is filled with warm water. Enameled in shades of cream, white, and soft grey the tub is enough to fit a single occupant comfortably for bathing. Various cuts of solid jet are inlaid along the interior to form a meandering fill line. Each is cut into the shape of a petal or leaf, and set at differing angles to give the impression they are being blown or tumbling. Six woody feet are affixed to the base of the tub, with decorative mithglin vines extending up the exterior of the tub and each boasting inlaid jet thorns.
