Diamonds, a form of condensed carbon, are the hardest substance on earth. While a ruby or sapphire is a 9 on Moh's hardness scale, and a diamond is a 10, a diamond is actually several times harder than a ruby, as Moh's hardness scale is relative to other substances.[1]
Diamonds of all types are associated with Eorgina, though the black diamond is often considered to be her gem, and many elves avoid wearing black diamonds unless they specifically intend on representing her. Diamonds resist channeling multiple forms of mana through it at once, making it unsuitable for sorcery. However, it is effective for spiritual and elemental magic when channeled separately.
List of Diamonds
- Note: The rarities listed are estimates and depend on the status of the treasure system in the area hunted. Average values listed are approximations and are generally taken from the sell values of a character selling gems with no trading bonus. See the Trading article for more information on variations of sell values.

a blue diamond
Description: Extremely hard, with a multitude of sharp edges and points, a blue diamond is one of the rarer gems in Elanthia. In this, its uncut state, a blue diamond is a translucent white with just a hint of pale blue throughout. Its waxy sheen softly reflects the light, and the diamond feels much heavier than other non-diamond stones of its same size. |

Average value: | 5000 |
Location: | Elven Nations |
a dragon's-tear diamond
Description: Despite the chips to its delicately faceted surface, the dragon's-tear diamond sparkles like a miniature star. At the heart of the jewel, shades of blue mingle with cool silvery light and minute flecks of scarlet to create a tiny, brilliant inferno. Whenever light glances across the exterior at certain angles, the stone reflects back an intense shade of sky blue instead of ordinary white. |

a dwarf-cut diamond
Description: Despite the chips to its delicately faceted surface, the dwarf-cut diamond sparkles like a miniature star. At the heart of the jewel, shades of blue mingle with cool silvery light and minute flecks of scarlet to create a tiny, brilliant inferno. Whenever light glances across the exterior at certain angles, the stone reflects back an intense shade of sky blue instead of ordinary white. |
Rarity: | Excessively Rare |
Average value: | 5500 |
Location: | The Rift |
a faceted black diamond
Description: As caliginous as a starless sky, the countless faces sparkle with an unearthly blue fire. The dark beauty of the diamond is exquisite, like black star plucked from the heavens.
Holding the gem while walking through the Sphere in the Rift will cause it to absorb the spirit loss effects. As a black tendril of anti-mana reaches toward you, it seems to be drawn to the black diamond in your hand. The tendril rapidly wends away within the diamond, disappearing into the gem's depths... As a black tendril of anti-mana reaches toward you, it seems to be drawn to the black diamond in your hand. The tendril rapidly wends away within the diamond, disappearing into the gem's depths... The black diamond begins to shudder with a low hum, then shatters in a violent burst of shadow! |

a large yellow diamond
Description: Even in the rough, the beauty of this yellow diamond is breathtaking. Light refracts from within the gem, showering sunshine-yellow rays in all directions. |
Rarity: | Extremely Rare |
Average value: | 5000 |
Location: | Isle of the Four Winds |
a purple stormcloud diamond
Description: Encapsulated in a clear, crystalline structure, the rich plum hues of the exotic diamond are striated with chaotic whorls of gold and silver. Just beneath the smoothly faceted surface is a rolling mass of dark inclusions that strike against the exterior to reflect in prismatic sprays of violet, lavender, and purplish-black striations. |

an uncut diamond
Description: This little cube with a rough, frosted surface is nothing other than an uncut diamond. It has a pale, silvery color and although the surface pattern makes it appear opaque, when held up to the light its clarity is revealed. For something so small, it is unusually heavy.
Note that uncut diamond is highly sought on the street due to its use in several Alchemy formulas. |

Average value: | 5000 |
Location: | Elven Nations |
an uncut maernstrike diamond
Description: The small, hard gem might be mistaken in the dark for a pebble, but anyone bringing it into the light would swiftly see the error in perception. Even in its uncut state, the maernstrike diamond is unmistakable. While the typical diamond is clear and white in hue with only a trace of yellow, the maernstrike diamond bears no trace of white whatsoever -- instead, an inferno of brilliant rainbow hues blazes at the center of the stone, and all parts of the jewel contain some portion of that fire. Shafts of emerald, scarlet, cerulean, violet, silver, and gold radiate from the spectacular core in a display of beauty muted only partially by the stone's rough, uncut state. |
Rarity: | Extremely Rare |
Average value: | 5000 |
Location: | Solhaven River's Rest |
an uncut star-of-Tamzyrr diamond
Description: Rubbed smooth by the action of sand and wave, an uncut star-of-Tamzyrr diamond is a misshapen lump. For the most part, the gem is perfectly translucent, its clarity only marred by light distortion due to the uneven shape. At the center, however, faint sky blue tendrils like frozen electrical discharge radiate outward in all directions. |
