There is bad math in the "New Lore Considerations: Bards" section. Yes, you are giving up 14 ranks of ML:Manipulation and regaining them with Ascension points, but you only gain +14 BONUS to ML:Telepathy. Since you are adding to 26 extant ranks, this comes out to 4 ranks (each at +3) and then 1 more rank (at +2). Net of +5 ranks, not +14. Telepathy BONUS gained from transferring 14 ranks from [[Mental Lore, Manipulation|manipulation]] to telepathy is +32 (140 - 108) or 4 ranks at +3 each and 10 ranks at +2 per. The telepathy net bonus is +18 (140 - 122) where 122 is the current bonus of 108 plus an additional bonus of 14 from the ascension ranks. Does it make any difference if you have 40 ranks with a 122 bonus or 40 ranks with a 140 bonus? Probably not for [[Bard Base]] since the ML, Telepathy benefits are all rank based, but better safe |
