Animated cauldrons were sold at the Ebon Gate 2009 auction. These are sentient cauldrons that will follow their owner around. While not attuned, they can only be picked up by the one who sets them down. They are heavily scripted, and will react to the alchemist as they practice their Alchemy. PropertiesIn addition to being heavily scripted, the cauldrons assist the alchemist with his work. If at any point you try to add an ingredient or do a step that would effectively ruin the recipe, the cauldron will stop you if it's alive. If it's asleep you can throw any garbage in there and get the foul smell and smoke like usual. Otherwise, if you tried to add the wrong ingredient, boil instead of simmer, infuse, channel or anything else like that in the wrong order, the cauldron will dodge you. If its an ingredient, it will stay in your hand. The goal is to make the cauldron into sort of a smart lab assistant that will never let you goof up a recipe that you already know. Yes, there's the potential to try to discover new recipes this way, and that's fine. It's not going to be a very effective method of research. Even if you had a nearly-complete recipe that was just missing one step and you knew exactly where in the process that step was, you'd still go crazy trying to find it blindly out of the hundreds of usable ingredients in the system. On the other hand, it might have been more effective in situations like the recent lichbane subplot, where everyone knew that a recipe called for a sapphire but didn't know what kind of sapphire. Ambient messagingA darkly patinated bronze cauldron stretches as far as it can leaning on each of its three legs in turn, shivering slightly as it does so. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron raises one of its legs and waves. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron steps on Belnia's foot! A darkly patinated bronze cauldron paws at the ground with one of its metal legs. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron suddenly leans to one side for a moment. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron suddenly scampers through Belnia's legs! A darkly patinated bronze cauldron marches up to you and salutes with one of its legs. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron waddles over to Eugenides, leans back, and begins wiping its feet on the ground in his direction. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron ambles around Belnia in a circle, occasionally leaning in for an inspection. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron tips itself over and rolls around on the ground in a wide arc before standing upright again. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron spins around like a top, balancing on one leg. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron trots around in a circle. A darkly patinated bronze cauldron crouches low, then suddenly somersaults into the air! Alchemy MessagingA darkly patinated bronze cauldron shifts its belly around on its legs, clearly enjoying the heat beneath it. Kembal reaches out to a darkly patinated bronze cauldron, and it snuggles against his touch. Kembal suddenly jerks back. ... 5 points of damage! Minor burns to right hand. Ouch. You reach into the cauldron and fill your flask. The cauldron leaps up and down, applauding with two of its metallic legs. You reach into the cauldron and take out a silvery monogram rocket. The cauldron raises up two of its legs and clasps them in victory. References |
