Step 11

The Symbol of Sleep, governed by Lord Ronan, is obtained at the eleventh step of the Order of Voln. This symbol can be used, as either a single target (targeted version) or mass disabling attack (untargeted version), against both undead and living creatures. The mass disabling version (untargeted) of this symbol does not affect player characters in the room. However, player characters can be 'slept' with the targeted version. Symbol of Sleep uses the Standard Success Resolution System to detemine success or failure.

Syntax

Type:
Symbol of Sleep (by itself for the mass untargeted version)
Symbol of Sleep <target> (for the single targeted version)

Messaging

Initial cast (first person):

sym of sleep

You draw a glowing pattern in the air before you.

A wraith's eyes roll up into its head as it slumps to the ground.

Wearing off (first person):

The wraith slowly comes back to consciousness.

A Targeted Player sees:

Voln Member draws a glowing pattern in the air before you.
Your thoughts drift off to a battle field where a lone figure, bedecked in battle worn armor, sends wave after wave of undead to a more peaceful eternity.

Wearing off a Targeted Player:

Your thoughts slowly come back to you as you find yourself lying on the ground. You must have been sleeping.

An Untargeted Player sees:

Voln Member draws an intricately glowing pattern in the air before you.

Symbol Effects

Causes target/targets to fall asleep, temporarily disabling them from engaging in combat and reducing their ability to defend themselves.

Favor Cost

The base favor cost for Symbol of Sleep is dependent on the member's level (not member's rank). See Order of Voln Symbols table [1] for specific examples.

When there is one creature in the room, only the base cost applies for both targeted and untargeted versions. The untargeted (mass attack) version's favor cost increases when more than one creature is present. With two creatures present the cost doubles. Each additional creature, greater than two, adds approximately 1/2 base cost. Although more than 8 creatures can be affected by the untargeted version, the favor cost is capped at 8 creatures.

Favor Cost Table

Creatures Favor Cost
1 Base
2 Base × 2
3 Base × 2.5
4 Base × 3
5 Base × 3.5
6 Base × 4
7 Base × 4.5
8 or more Base × 5

Example for a level 20 member with 5 creatures present.

  • Base cost at level 20 is 58 favor.
Base Cost × 3.5 = favor cost (5 creatures)
58 × 3.5 = 286 favor

Example for a level 100 member with 10 creatures present.

  • Base cost at level 100 is 435 favor.
Base Cost × 5 = favor cost (10 creatures)
435 × 5 = 2174 favor

Note: Because of rounding the actual cost will be slightly different than the formula result. Sym Sleep when activated against 8 or more creatures has the same favor cost as one Symbol of Return use.

Favor Required to Obtain Symbol of Sleep

Formula: 1000 + (( level2 × 20 ) ÷ 3 )
Ex. level 10 member: 1000 + ((10 × 10 × 20) ÷ 3) = 1666 favor
Ex. level 20 member: 1000 + ((20 × 20 × 20) ÷ 3) = 3666 favor
