Hand of Tonis is named after Tonis, the Arkati of speed, travel and thieves. There are two versions of this spell: a warding attack which attempts to stun a target by stealing its breath, and bolt spell, which uses the Spell Aiming skill and becomes available with 20 ranks Elemental Lore, Air training. This second version, commonly referred to as Tonis Bolt, hurls a churning bolt of air at the target and is activated using EVOKE.

The stun roundtime is determined by the endroll success margin. Stun RT (in seconds) = (ER - 100) ÷ 2.

Usage

  • PREP 505 | CAST {target} or INCANT 505 to cast this spell normally
  • PREP 505 | EVOKE {target} to cast Tonis Bolt (requires 20 ranks of Elemental Lore, Air)

  • INCANT 505 EVOKE to evoke this spell once using INCANT
  • INCANT 505 CHANNEL EVOKE to channel the evoke version of this spell once using INCANT

  • INCANT SET EVOKE 505 to always evoke this spell using INCANT 505
  • Using INCANT SET CHANNEL followed by INCANT SET EVOKE will always channel the evoked version of the spell using INCANT 505

  • This spell can be cast at clouds to disperse them
  • Self-casting the CS version will cause a column of air to form around the caster and blow their hair in all directions; a 'hair dryer' of sorts that has no mechanical effect

Lore Benefits

Tonis Bolt

20 ranks of Elemental Lore, Air unlocks a bolt version of the spell and is cast using EVOKE. In addition to hitpoint damage, this spell uses the Unbalance critical table, producing injuries along with frequent knockdowns and stuns.

Damage Factor Bonus

Training in Elemental Lore, Air also increases the spell's damage factor (DF). Total DF bonus with 200 lore ranks is .100.

Air Lore
Ranks
Damage Factor
Increase
1 to 50
.001 per rank
51 to 100
.001 per two ranks
101 to 200
.001 per four ranks
  • Damage factor truncates at three decimal places.

Channel Damage

CHANNELing a bolt spell imposes a 3 second hard roundtime in exchange for a higher chance of hitting a vital area and subjects the attack to less critical randomization. The critical randomization floor is raised by 1-2 ranks (depending on the actual critical) and the chance to hit every location is the same at 7.7%.

When a bolt is CAST/EVOKEd without CHANNELing, it has a little over 16% chance to hit the eyes, head, or neck. A CHANNELed bolt has over a 30% chance. Most of those locations will also result in a critical kill for ranks as low as 5 or 6, while it will take 7+ against the chest, abdomen, or back. If it is determined to be a rank 9 critical wound, critical randomization can lower that all the way down to a rank 5 (typically non-lethal against vital spots). If the same bolt is CHANNELed for the same rank 9 critical wound, crit randomization will not lower it less than a rank 7 (typically lethal against vital spots).

The roundtime imposed by channeling cannot be reduced by haste effects.
