The Blacksmith's Companion was released at Evermore Hollow 2022 by GameMaster Netz at the Ironmonger's Smithy. These modify the base description and long description of brawling weapons, polearm weapons, two-handed weapons, blunt weapons, and edged weapons made with the forging system. The wielder must have forged the weapon themselves for the Blacksmith's Companion to work. The patterns in the book are not consumable, will last forever, and cannot be changed or removed.

Tier 1

The off-the-shelf Blacksmith's Companion allows you to have 3 standard slots per category and 3 custom slots total in the entire book.

Analyze

You analyze the dog-eared booklet and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

This book is a Blacksmith's Companion.

It can be altered but must remain a book.

You can OPEN, CLOSE, TURN, READ, and GAZE at it.

When you want to apply a pattern, GAZE BOOK WITH slot number. Hold your weapon in your left hand, stand in a workshop with a grinder, then LEAN COMPANION. After some time your pattern will be applied to your weapon.

The patterns in the companion may not be changed or removed. Only a skilled merchant may add patterns.

You get no sense of whether or not the booklet may be further lightened.

Tier 3

The Tier 3 Blacksmith's Companion allows for 5 standard slots per category and 5 custom slots total.

Additional Information

Each Blacksmith's Companion is largely the same, regardless of what kind of weapon it is modifying. There are four possible categories: Embellishments, Finishes, Names, Grips. Each one can have up to 3-5 patterns added to the Blacksmith's Companion by the scribe in the shop depending upon the tier of the book.

  • Embellishments can be decorative or describe the quality of the weapon. For example, a plain dagger could be embellished into a silver-etched dagger.
  • Finishes or textures can be applied to the weapon's base metal. This brings out the visibility of the metal as well. A simple short sword could become a shiny steel short sword.
  • Names will rename a base weapon to an allowed alternative name. For example, you can rename a dagger as a stiletto.
  • Different ornamentation or qualities can be applied to a weapon's grip, handle, or hilt. A basic broadsword could become a broadsword with a spherical bronze pommel.
