Areas of Interest at Rumor Woods:

The Aspen Grove has multiple Inn Room-like tents scattered throughout the area as the Aspen Grove itself is just like an Inn. There is a Tavern w. Tables, drinks and food.
Summit Academy is a college. It has an Ellipse at its heart that is for socializing and getting warm drinks.
Cysaelotar was built by Aelotoi visitors and is a natural area filled witha variety of wonders.

Announcement 1 - Theme

This season’s theme draws inspiration from sunbaked sands and wind-carved horizons, bringing a new palette and a new spirit to the woods. As always, our offerings will remain varied, but many of this year’s highlights carry a distinctly desert flavor.

The tournament returns with a new rivalry: Scorpion versus Jerboa.

Each side will bear its own colors:

A beige jerboa on a field of myrtle green,
A jet black scorpion on a field of copper,

This year’s festival mount will be the scorpion, accompanied by new lore released alongside it.

For a special twist, the Fox Hunt will change its quarry for one year only. Instead of the fox, participants will have the chance to win a jerboa pet.

Prefer not to run the hunt? No worries. The jerboa will also be available through Ewe Vixen.

Sands are shifting. Rivalries are stirring.

Rumor Woods awaits.

Announcement 3 - Diriko

The last of the scaffolding had come down three days prior, and the landing smelled of fresh-cut stone and linseed oil. The arrow slits had been fitted with glass, their new panes catching the pale alpine light and scattering it in clean lines across the floors. The writing desk, dark and well-oiled, sat precisely where Diriko had placed it on the first day, as though it had always belonged there.

She received the dean of Summit Academy as she received everyone, with stillness, with patience, and with tea that she had prepared before he had finished climbing the stairs.

He was not an unkind man. She had taken care to note that in the years since her arrival. He managed the Academy with the weary competence of someone who had long since traded ambition for endurance, and she respected that quietly, as she respected most things quietly. He accepted the tea, settled into the chair she had placed for him, and began.

Sylinar's name entered the room like bad weather.

She listened without expression as the dean laid out his grievances with the careful precision of a man who had rehearsed them on the stairs. Attendees arriving with devices in need of attention. Requests submitted and unanswered. Correspondence returned unopened or not returned at all. The reputation of the Academy, he said, resting his teacup on his knee, was not well served by a man who could not be found when he was needed. He had sent word four times. Four times. Sylinaar was nowhere to be found.

Diriko folded her hands in her lap and let him finish.

When the last of it had settled into the room, she rose in a single smooth motion and moved to the nearest arrow slit. Below, the grounds of Summit Academy spread themselves in the late afternoon light, the old hedgerows casting long shadows across the cobbled paths. A groundskeeper moved along the far edge, tending to the snow and ice in turn. A student crossed from the east dormitory with her nose in a book, nearly walked into a post, and corrected herself without looking up.

Diriko watched, and said nothing.

The silence stretched. Behind her, she heard the dean shift in his chair. The small sound of his teacup being set carefully on the desk. Another shift.

When she turned, her smile was patient and warm, the smile of a woman who had seen a great deal and found most of it more interesting than alarming.

"I understand your frustration," she said, returning to her place with the unhurried ease of someone navigating familiar waters. "Sylinar's absence has been an inconvenience, and I do not diminish that." She settled, smoothed the front of her sky blue robe, and met his eyes with her own, clear and steady. "But I would ask you to set that frustration aside, because it is no longer necessary."

The dean opened his mouth.

She continued, gently.

"I worked at that man's side for longer than this Academy has stood. What he knows of enhancives, of charge and capacity and permanency, I know also. What he can do with a device brought to him in need, I can do here, at this desk, in this tower, which is no longer his." She paused, letting her words sink in with measured stillness. "Your attendees need not wonder where to bring their concerns. They need only climb these stairs."

She folded her hands into the sleeves of her robes and let the silence return, though this time it was a different kind entirely and she did not let it linger nearly as long.

"More tea?" she asked.

The famed erithi Diriko, will be available in Sylinaar's tower throughout the festivities to offer the same services that Sylinaar does at Ebon Gate.

Beneath the shifting sands of the Sea of Fire and Southron Wastes, as well as the suffocating canopy of the southern jungles and elsewhere throughout Elanthia, a silent watcher lies in wait. The scrape of chitin against stone and the sharp whistle of a raised stinger descending are often the only warnings a traveler receives before encountering one of the more intimidating members of the arachnid world -- the scorpion. Scorpions have occupied the dark corners of Elanthia since the ancient ages, outlasting empires and surviving cataclysms that claimed far softer creatures.

Fox Hunt - This year you will have a 50/50 chance to find a Songbird Egg instead of a Bugle. Starting next year, you will only be able to find a Songbird Egg.
Pixie Hunt - This year, you'll have a chance to find a Jerboa Rainstick instead of a Bell.

Slowly, over the week, we will be releasing information about scorpions and adding them here. Once we have finished posting the information, we will open the forum for discussion. Please refrain from asking questions until we've finished sharing. Sharing is dependent upon release from QC, which is why we will be trickling the data.

Saddles - Yes, scorpions will be getting saddles. I should be able to tease these tomorrow. You can look for them in the shop called "Insurmountable". Much like tortoises, there will be two varieties. In nature, they are Tehir or Faendryl in origin.

Scorpion Mounts - Sunscar Sanctum will house the 6 types of scorpions available. They are:

This year's Vault Item is the return of the candy-making machine; however, very soon now, folks will notice that the very bottom of the analyze has a small addition to it:

You hold a gnomic candy-making machine etched in blue against a gnomic candy-making machine and contemplate merging them!

[This will permanently consume a gnomic candy-making machine etched in blue and cannot be undone. If you are sure, ADD machine to machine again within 30 seconds to confirm.]

You press a gnomic candy-making machine etched in blue firmly against a gnomic candy-making machine, aligning the two machines at their bases. A grinding series of mechanical clicks, snaps, and internal shifts follows as components from both devices interlock and fuse. A gnomic candy-making machine etched in blue is consumed in the process, its workings drawn fully into a gnomic candy-making machine. When the sounds finally cease, a small lever has appeared along a gnomic candy-making machine's side frame.

A new line will be added to the analyze:

[Dual-mode is unlocked. FLIP the machine to toggle between candy-making and resin-molding modes.]

You grasp the small lever on the side of a gnomic candy-making machine and pull it decisively downward. A rapid series of mechanical clicks, sliding panels, and locking gears follows as the device reconfigures itself, components shifting into entirely new arrangements. When the sounds finally cease, what was once a gnomic candy-making machine has become a gnomic resin-molding press.

You analyze the resin-molding press and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

Introducing the Gnomic Candy Press, now in resin-molding mode!  Brought to you by the ingenious burghal gnome duo of Fryc and Shives, this device has been modified to produce resin figurines, sculptures, and beads in addition to its original candy-making function.

How does it work?
It's easy!  With these simple steps, you too can be an amazing artisan!

Step 1: PUSH a CANDY ROLLER into the press.
Step 2: POUR some FLETCHING GLUE into the press.
Step 3: TINKER with the press to create your resin items!

Each application creates 10 pieces in your tray.  The type of item produced depends on the roller currently installed:

Figurines are produced by rollers featuring humanoids, monsters, and animals.  It will create 5.

Sculptures are produced by rollers featuring inanimate objects.  It will create 5.

Beads are produced by rollers featuring abstract shapes.  It will create 10.

To remove glue from the press, TURN the press to open the release valve.

To switch back to candy-making mode, make sure the press is completely empty and FLIP it.
Pour a grot t'kel potion onto a roller, then PUSH it into the press to unlock a chance at creating a magic figurine or sculpture.  For each one produced, there is a 10% chance it will become magical, allowing it to have magic IMBEDDED within.

Item Composition

Figurines are named for their design:  a grizzly bear figurine, an elven warrior figurine, and so on.  Sculptures follow the same pattern:  a leather boot sculpture, an iron kettle sculpture.
Beads take the shape name directly:  a star bead, a crescent bead, a spiral bead.

Roller Compatibility
All candy rollers are compatible with both modes of this device.  If a roller predates the dual-mode update, you will be prompted to return it to your roller holder to refresh it before use in resin mode.

Alterations
You may alter your device, but the LOOK is hard-coded, so please make sure your short and/or long description make sense.

You grasp the crank handle of a gnomic resin-molding press and begin turning it, setting the internal mechanism into motion.  Fletching glue pours from the glue basin into the mold channel, filling the circular impression as a small warming coil heats the resin to its working temperature.  Rhimar rods press against the basin the moment the cycle completes, cooling the resin rapidly as it sets.  As the clockwork pieces cease their whirring, a series of freshly cast beads clatter into the tray near the device's feet.

Compact and sturdy, the press features a central resin basin flanked by two narrow feed channels.  A flow control valve at the base governs the release of glue, should any be loaded into the mold channel, which is positioned directly over a series of a circle-cut metal rollers.  A long crank handle extends from the side, ensuring smooth operation, while a wide footer provides stability.  A small lever along the frame suggests the device has more than one purpose.  Affixed to the frame, a small plaque bears the inscription:  "The Resin Press of 5126, a Fryc and Shives Invention."

You remove a circular bead from in a gnomic resin-molding press.

You think you could cut a circular bead into a silver-chased circular bead with a small steel-tipped lathe with an oak handle, which can then be used for weaving.

Blank Candy Maker Roller Rod
A blank metal rod is a blank roller rod awaiting a design.  It has not yet been shaped into a specific form.

To choose a design, follow these steps:

Step 1:  GLANCE at the rod to browse all available candy roller designs.
Step 2:  WHISPER to the rod a {number} to select your desired design.
Step 3:  WHISPER to the rod a {number} again within 30 seconds to confirm and permanently transform a blank metal rod.

Once transformed, a blank metal rod becomes a fully functional candy roller bearing your chosen design and a randomly selected metal.  This action cannot be undone.

A blank metal rod may not be altered until after it has been transformed into a roller.

* Will the figurines, effigies, and sculptures work in the Spidersilk Apothecary if you have a tinkerer spider?
Yes
* Can the beads be dyed?
Yes, both before and after they are used with a weaving lathe.  It causes the bead to lose all description and become just a "color" bead.
* If you did not get a candymaker last year, can you get two this year?
No, this is the upgrade based on the new model that was announced last year.
* Are vault items attuned to character or account?
Only one Event Vault may be redeemed per run of an event per character. The Event Vault itself is not attuned until it has been REDEEMed. Once redeemed, contents are typically attuned either to the account or to the character, depending on the item. Special items are always character attuned.
* Your Storage Case will automatically update to reflect the new resin design nouns.  You'll need to LOOK at it twice to get it to properly display the update.  Here is an example of the output:

Trained riders will now be able to fight from the saddle!  Mounted combat is unlocked per character at a price of 50,000 raikhen.  This unlock will be available from the stablehands in various towns.

Stay Mounted in Combat
* Attack and cast war spells freely while mounted.
* You no longer get dismounted when attacked or when entering combat.
* Getting knocked down will still dismount you.

Passive Bonuses
* +10 DS while mounted.
* Height advantage on attacks.
* Three New Abilities
All three are accessed via the MOUNT verb (e.g., MOUNT CHARGE).

MOUNT CHARGE - AoE 
* Spur your mount into a charge that can hit multiple creatures in the room.
* Targets are knocked down and may be Disoriented or Staggered.
* Uses an SMR roll against each target.
* You are dismounted and your mount departs after the charge.
* 60 second cooldown
* 5 seconds of roundtime

MOUNT TRAMPLE - Single-Target 
* Direct your mount to trample a single creature or player.
* Target is knocked down and may be Terrified or Feeble.
* Includes a follow-through attack with your equipped weapon or a spell after the trample.
* You stay mounted after trampling.
* 60 second cooldown
* 3 seconds of roundtime

MOUNT ESCAPE - Emergency Extraction
* Your mount charges in, scoops you up, and carries you to an adjacent room even if you're stunned, prone, webbed, or rooted.
* Does not work while unconscious or dead.
* Must not be mounted.
* Daily cooldown (resets at midnight).
* Your mount departs after depositing you safely.
* Does not move your group.
* The destination room may have hostile creatures; escape guarantees extraction, not safety.

Restrictions While Mounted
Some combat maneuvers (CMANs) and abilities cannot be used while mounted.  List is subject to change as messaging is reviewed:
Vault Kick, Bearhug, Dirtkick, Leap Attack, Sweep, Tackle, Groin Kick, Footstomp, Hamstring, Headbutt, Garrote, Subdue, Spin Attack, Whirling Dervish, Rolling Krynch, Acrobat's Leap, Kneebash, Dust Shroud, Swiftkick, Divert, Cutthroat, Eviscerate, Prop Up (Shield), Charge (Polearm), Twin Hammerfists, Spin Kick, Cyclone, Vanish, Silent Strike

Some abilities cannot target a mounted rider:
Bearhug, Sweep, Hamstring, Garrote, Subdue, Cutthroat, Throatchop, Footstomp, Groin Kick, Nosetweak, Kneebash

AMBUSH and WAYLAY are always blocked while mounted, regardless of combat unlock. You also cannot HIDE while mounted.

As a result of these changes, ALL players with mounts will notice the following changes:
* The summoning device is now wearable.  When dismounting, the device will be worn automatically instead of going to an empty hand first.,
* You will no longer be considered "sitting" while mounted.

Songbirds Are Here! ,
Now in Elanthia -- Songbirds -- found in the new Rumor Woods shop, Song Sung Blue.
Each songbird hatches from a unique egg with its own combination of body plumage, wing accents, crest color, tail feathers, and eye color -- over nine million possible appearances.  No two birds should look quite the same.

Hatching,
Your songbird begins life as a simple egg that hides its colorful inner shell and bird.  Simply EXHALE on it to bond, and watch as the shell cracks and your new companion emerges, shaking off fragments and greeting you with its first chirp.  The eggshell becomes a tiny whistle adorned with feathers in your bird's colors -- your way to call them back whenever you need.

A Companion with more life!,
Songbirds aren't just cosmetic.  They're living their best life, and they act like it.

They get hungry. Feed them foraged seeds or live insects to keep them healthy and vibrant.  A well-fed bird is colorful and lively; a neglected one grows thin, patchy, and eventually falls comatose -- though a meal will always bring them back.,
They hunt on their own. A hungry bird will snatch bugs from the ground when it spots them. (Bugs on Parade),
They react to the world. Your bird notices nearby creatures (and often tries, adorably, to look intimidating), investigates other players, and behaves differently around people it recognizes as friendly versus strangers.,
They worry about you. If you're wounded, your songbird will worry and try to help you, plus more!,

Personality,
Your songbird has opinions about the people around you.  It'll chirp friendly greetings and drop tiny gifts at the feet of people it likes -- and pointedly turn its back and fluff its tail feathers at those it doesn't.  It might land briefly on a friend's shoulder to say hello, or tuck its head under its wing to ignore someone it finds disagreeable.

Pet-to-Pet Interactions,
Songbirds are social creatures.  When two songbirds meet, they might burst into a spontaneous duet, preen each other's feathers, or chase each other in playful aerial spirals.  They also interact with other pet types -- riding a fox's tail, landing between a lamb's ears, stealing shiny things from lizards, and engaging in dramatic aerial showdowns with dragonflies.

For Bards,
If you're a bard, your songbird is your duet partner.  It listens to how you play and matches your style -- singing a mournful accompaniment to somber melodies, chirping rapid-fire alongside fast tempo pieces, or belting out a rousing harmony when you play something inspiring.  It'll even try to sing along during loresinging (emphasis on try).

Message Delivery,
Write a message on a slip of parchment, and your songbird will carry it across town to another player -- up to three times a day. It'll swoop down to the recipient, chirp brightly, and drop the note at their feet before winging its way back to you.

Shoulder Perch & Verbs,
Wear your songbird on your shoulder where it'll nestle in, preen its feathers, and occasionally nod off. You can also PET, RUB, TICKLE, KISS, HUG, and POKE your bird (results vary). And yes -- very rarely, your shoulder companion will leave you a little... surprise. Nothing a good RUB won't fix.

How to Get One,
Songbird eggs are now available at Rumor Woods in the shop Song Sung Blue .

You have two paths to your feathered best friend:
Natural Eggs -- Take your chances with nature. Your bird's colors will be a complete surprise -- you never know what combination you'll get until that shell cracks open.,
Magically Encouraged Eggs -- For those with a specific vision in mind, these eggs have been coaxed into producing a particular set of colors. Pick your palette and hatch with confidence.,

Tier 1/OTS - comes with some fluff verbs and you can TURN it to pick between slashing, piercing, or crushing standard ability flares (Category-B).  Point-and-click is enabled with this feature, titled Modularity.

Tier 2 - Coiled Retrofit unlocks a WAVE maneuver ability that deals slashing, piercing, or crushing damage as set by TURN.

Tier 3 - Arcane Pneumatics unlocks Category-D flares that can be toggled between air and steam with TINKER.

Tier 4 - Ensigiled Cylinder unlocks a POINT maneuver ability that deals air or steam damage as set by TINKER.  If it hits, air applies the Slowed debuff and steam applies the Vulnerable debuff.

This Rumor Woods, the Basketifier is getting an additional unlock.  This new tier, Tier 5, will unlock the ability to have Tableware additions to your basket.

After unlocking the basket, you will see a new analyze addition:


SPECIAL TABLEWARE UNLOCK
Because your basket has been unlocked to the 5th tier, you are now able to add utensils, plates, saucers, or napkins with special certificates.  To see which you already have installed, please GAZE at the basket.
In Basket Form:
WHISPER - To obtain a single copy of the item.
GAZE    - To see the full list of unlocked tableware items.
In Table Form:
* Upon becoming a table, your tableware items will be stacked on the table.
* GET will allow you, or anyone using your table, to obtain a tableware item.

All tableware items are marked as junk to allow you to throw them away when you are near trash barrels.  This includes the trash basket stored under your table when it is out.  Throwing away a tableware item does not destroy those contained in your basket.

In addition to this new tier 5 unlock, you may purchase tableware vouchers that will add the specific type to your basket.  For example:

* You glance down to see a monogrammed white voucher in your right hand and a lace-edged slate blue napkin elegantly embroidered with kissing wrens in your left hand.

You analyze the white voucher and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
Basketifier Tableware Voucher
A monogrammed white voucher is designed to allow you to add specific types of items to your basket.  This particular voucher has been created to allow you to add a napkin to a Basketifier basket that is at least Tier 5.

Alterations
Any willing merchant may modify this voucher, however, you can also ADD a napkin that is predesigned to your voucher.  [Syntax: ADD {my} {tableware type} to {my} voucher.]  Be warned, this will consume your item.  Your tableware item may have a long or show.

With praticed ease, you lay a lace-edged slate blue napkin elegantly embroidered with kissing wrens in the center of a monogrammed white voucher.  It slowly gets absorbed into the piece, leaving nothing behind.

You point your white voucher at a monogrammed white voucher, allowing the magic stored within the tiny piece of paper to do its thing.  After several seconds, the voucher turns into motes of light that descend upon the basket, dissolving into its form.

Lastly, GM Vanah and Elysani paired up to create an NPC that will work on adding long descriptions to the aforementioned items.  This NPC works the same as the other +long description NPCs, charging a nominal fee for the work.

From the land of miscommunication and additional lettering, I humbly present a new Rumor Woods shop for 2026: Dessert Vibes!

Found in an auspicious driftwood shack off a broad caravan trail, Confectioner Brixxior and his financial backer, Gentleman Hoorne, invite you to enjoy a taste of the wastes.

Within and upon our very clean surfaces, you'll find a plethora of confectionary delights that you'll want to preserve in your basketifiers for generations to come.  Sweet, sweet scorpions?  Check.  Sugary serpents?  You bet.  A marzipan jerboa?  So cute you must devour.  A candied troll toe?  Uh oh.

The main attraction, however, is a new fun, fluffy, and sugar-dusted sartorial delight: Tasty Hands Clothing.

Tasty Hands Clothing are front-worn aprons that can be stuffed full of tasty treats.  You can use one of a few different verbs to interact with any confections stored inside.  For example, here's what happens with you FIDGET with an apron:

You reach into the pocket at the front of your candy pattern apron, running your hand over some links of greasy sausage.  You then bring the greasy sausage up to your nose and inhale with all your might.  Closing your eyes, you sigh deeply as the fragrances of the sausage lingers in your nostrils and on your hands.  Eyes still closed, you quickly slip the morsel back into your apron.

Want to change targets, just TURN your apron!

You've decided to turn your focus away from some links of greasy sausage and instead focus on a candied troll toe.

Now, sample the delicate flavors within to your heart's content without consuming a charge of the food!  

Hoorne reaches into a sugar-dusted candy pattern apron and carefully selects a candied troll toe from within.  Bringing the toe up to his mouth, he takes a big lick.  He takes a deep breath, his eyes unfocused as if he is contemplating the flavors of the toe.  Then, nodding in satisfaction, he slips the toe back into his apron.

This will allow you to enjoy delicious flavor messaging to your heart's content!

You reach into a sugar-dusted candy pattern apron and carefully select a candied troll toe from within.  Bringing the toe up to your mouth, you take a big lick.  Oh no.  Was that a mistake?  A wave of sweet sugar leads out a funky, metallic aftertaste that lingers on the tongue.  Notes of wet garbage, blooming fungus, and pungent blood soon overwhelm the senses.

Nodding in satisfaction, you slip the toe back into your apron.

Tasty Hands Clothing items can be altered, but must remain something reasonable and front-worn.  They come fully unlocked for a mere 1,000 raikhen.

Rumor Woods 2026 - Dhu Impress

Whether you just like to smell the roses to collect flora as an occasional hobbyist to a professional botanist, we bring you  Dhu Impress, a new shop for Rumor Woods 2026!

Find that special blossom you've been searching for, put it in your flower press and give it a turn -- voilà -- a dried, permanent specimen for you to affix into your journal.

Organize them by genus, color, location... however you desire!

Created in 2004, the Dhu Impress flower press was built for the famed voyages of the Dhu Gillywack.  It was sold with a portfolio that allowed you to store the flowers on the center of pages and then you could show them off to folks.

Twenty-two years later, we were asked to add an analyze to them, and update them we did, so that they could be offered again.

The Dhu Impress flower press is unchanged in its functionality.  You place a flower inside, turn to press it, and then you can add it to your keepsakes (journals for this run).

The journals, however, has been updated with some new tricks.

Previously, you could turn the page, show the book, and place the flowers only.  Now it has been updated with the follow actions:

You gingerly close your journal, taking care not to crease any of its pages.

* glance my journal
: You glance up, your fingers pausing in their absent tracing of the journal's cover.
: Firstperson glances up, his fingers pausing in their absent tracing of the journal's cover.

You carefully open your journal, turning to the first page.

Teaser 11 - Scorpion Saddle

Insurmountable saddles will be introduced at Rumor Woods this year as part of the release of Scorpion mounts.  While they behave similarly to Saddle Me Up saddles, they are more closely related to Cog and Zephyr saddles.  The scutix is a Faendryl innovation similar to the gnomish Hailx, at least in regards to it lying flat when not on the mount and 'unboxing' when on the mount.  Original crafters of the scutix called them a chitin-craft, though that design style has since fallen out of practice due to life expectancy issues.  The design is lightweight.  The vurziod, a forgewright saddle, is a Tehir innovation.  Comprised of both metal and leather parts, the design features a high back, hide padding, and forward railings.  The design is rigid and sturdy.  

Both scutix and vurziod can be unlocked via certificates to expand their fluff verbs.  They will be sold in the Rumor Woods shop Insurmountable.

Lore
:The Scutix - A Faendryl Chitin-craft Saddle
The name scutix is deceptively simple, meaning little more than saddle in the Faendryl tongue.  The design it describes, however, is anything but.

Originally fashioned from the great chitinous plates of deceased wastes scorpions, the earliest scutix was a triumph of pragmatic elegance.  The plates fit the mount's natural contours seamlessly, cradling the rider while protecting their back beneath an articulated shell.  To the eye, rider and scorpion seemed almost one creature.

The pheromones embedded in the harvested chitin told a different story.  Imperceptible to the riders, the scent spoke plainly to every scorpling within range: here was a host.  The resulting swarms were catastrophic for mount and rider alike.

Modern scutix are carved from carefully shaped wood, treated and finished to mirror the living chitin beneath them; glossy where the mount gleams, textured where the natural plates ripple.  The best craftsmen spend as much time matching the color and sheen of a specific mount as they do the saddle's construction.  When the articulated plates are folded open for mounting, even a trained eye may struggle to find where the scorpion ends and the saddle begins.

Note: scutix is both a singular and plural word.
:The Vurziod - A Tehir Forgewright Saddle
In Tehir, vurziod draws from roots that mean stinger, finger, and strength in equal measure, with seat woven somewhere beneath all three.  Scholars have settled on "stingseat" as the working translation, though any Tehir present for that decision would likely find it incomplete.

What the name describes is a saddle built not around the rider, but around the mount.  Where other cultures design riding equipment to subdue or conceal, the vurziod is fitted with the precision of someone who regards the creature beneath them as a partner rather than a beast of burden.  The Tehir do not consider the sandfinger tamed.  They consider it convinced.  A willing partner.

The saddle follows the natural segmentation of the scorpion's mesosoma, sitting cleanly along the tergite grooves rather than strapping across them.  A series of hook clasps, which retract flush when the saddle is unengaged, are set into each groove sequentially.  Once positioned, a rear tension knob cinches the whole assembly firmly from behind.  The leading edge is placed precisely behind the carapace junction, leaving the scorpion's median eyes unobstructed.

The seat itself is high-backed, padded in local hides, and flanked by a forward rail.  Two rigid stirrups extend outward on jointed billets, adjustable to the length of the rider's leg.  The rigidity is deliberate.  A scorpion's gait is not a horse's gait, and a stirrup that gives with the motion rather than holding against it will teach a rider bad habits quickly.

When the tension knob is seated, and the clasps have found their grooves, the vurziod becomes less a saddle than a connection, the final expression of a bond that began before the first molt was shed.  Built for the unforgiving rhythms of the Sea of Fire, it holds the rider not by force but by fit.  After all, precision and trust, among the Tehir, amount to the same thing.

Thanks to the assistance of Elysani and Naiken, Vintage Visions has been updated with an entirely new room, and additional wares have been added to the print room.

Mailbox addition certificates have been added to the offerings.  Their price has been drastically reduced.  The new cost is 12,500.  This certificate, like others, can be customized by a merchant, though there are two designs currently on display.

Trash barrel certificates have also been added to the offerings.  These also have two pre-designs but can be modified by a merchant.

Music Box Permanency, -inator permanency, and tub permanency slips have been added to the offerings in this front room as well.

We have removed the design slips (also known as bungalow slips) as recent issues with them (beyond recent discussions on pricing) have required us to evaluate how this offering is handled going forward.  There have been numerous issues with their application from both a staff and player standpoint.  I’m confident we’ll be able to figure out a resolution.

In the second room, two pre-designed foraged item props are on offer.  They rest amid miniature shelves.  Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Book-inator shelves are here.  However, for avid readers, you may wish to obtain a miniature bookcase.  These items will create bookcases with THREE book-inator shelves in them.

Teaser 13 - Spell Books!: Volume 2: The Sequel: The Return of the Features

"Faster!" his mentors begged him. "How are you going to defend yourself when there's a kobold biting your neck by the time you've gotten to the right invocation?"

Sigh.

Dunvold was never a fast reader. While other wizards were busy levitating rocks and conjuring flame, he was still sounding out "The Wheels on the Wagon Go Round and Round: A Primer on Circular Motion and Enchanted Transportation."

His first combat exam was a disaster. By the time he'd stumbled through "I hereby summon thee, O crackling arc of—wait, is that an 'i' or an 'l'?—of light-en-ing," the training dummy had already crossed the arena and bopped him on the head. Twice.

"Perhaps you'd be better suited to alchemy," suggested Professor Burnwood gently, after Dunvold's protective ward fizzled out because he'd accidentally read "shield" as "sheld" and created a small pile of clamshells instead.

But Dunvold was stubborn. Every night, by candlelight, he practiced. First with children's spellbooks. Then young adult spellbooks with slightly more complex incantations. He read aloud to his familiar - a deeply unimpressed toad named Tad — until his tongue no longer tripped over phrases like "effervescent transfiguration" and "perpendicular banishment."

The breakthrough came on a Tilamaires.

He was reading a particularly dense tome about elemental manipulation when he realized he wasn't sounding out the words anymore. His eyes were simply... knowing them. The symbols flowed like water, the syllables rolled off his tongue like thunder, and suddenly—whoosh—a column of fire erupted from his palm.

"Tad, did you see that?!"

Tad blinked once. Slowly.

Several updates for Spell Books are coming to Rumor Woods 2026! This year, we have a few player request features and two new features, which will be deployed shortly before opening on Friday. They are:

* You may now `PONDER` to a specific slot (e.g. `ponder <#> <book>`).

* NEW: You may unlock additional uses of `STARE` (1750) via a voucher, capped at the item's Tier (5x/day max at Tier 5). Speaking of Tier 5...
* NEW: Tier 5! At this Tier, you may `WAVE` a book at a target to sequentially invoke spells in rapid succession! The first spell has a 100% chance to fire, the second 75%, the third 50%, and the fourth 25%. 10 minute cooldown.

Pricing is 50k for Tier 5, 125k per additional use of `STARE` (1750). The upgrades should be available when Rumor Woods opens.

Choices, choices.

Dunvold was bad with choices too.

Here he stood at Fist Class Plane Ticket - which was neither first class, nor a plane of existence, nor sold tickets, but Dunvold had learned long ago that wizarding establishments had peculiar names. The shopkeeper, a hunched woman with seventeen pairs of spectacles perched atop her head like a glass crown, watched him with the patient resignation of someone who had seen this exact scene play out a thousand times before.

Left or right? Dark or light blue? The two vouchers sat on velvet cushions, each no bigger than a thumbnail, each humming with a different frequency that made his teeth itch.

croak said Tad, unhelpfully.

"I know. You're hungry. I'm hurrying as fast as I can," replied Dunvold, shifting the frog from his left shoulder to his right. Tad's weight was negligible, but his opinions were heavy.

The dark blue voucher pulsed like a heartbeat - quick, insistent, urgent as a messenger sprinting through castle halls. The light blue one shimmered with barely contained chaos, like bottled lightning, like the heart of a storm, like the moment before a sneeze.

"Both have their merits," the shopkeeper offered, adjusting three of her spectacles at once.

"That's not helpful," Dunvold muttered.

"Wasn't trying to be helpful. Trying to be honest." She tapped the counter. "You've got about thirty seconds before Rumor Woods closes and you'll have to come back next year."

Dunvold had to make a choice. Time was not on his side.

His hand hovered between them, trembling like a compass needle that couldn't find north.

croak said Tad, and this time it sounded almost like a question.

The Jerboa

Summoned by a rainstick, this lovely little rodent is a true friend and companion.  Special thanks go to those that helped me make the jerboa come alive.  GMs Elysani, Gyres, and Xynwen helped with most of the messaging, while GM Ivry helped with some messaging and coding.  Here are a few things to expect with the jerboa:

You coax your Sea of Fire jerboa down from your shoulder, and she hops willingly into your waiting hand, curling her tail around your thumb.

You crouch down and lower the Sea of Fire jerboa, but she springs away before reaching the ground, bouncing lightly as she lands.

Small with soft reddish brown fur, the jerboa stands upright on elongated hind legs, her tiny forepaws tucked close to her chest.  The fur pales along her belly.  Her head is delicate and narrow, framed by large, translucent ears that rise like thin petals, each veined and faintly pink.  A long, slender tail trails behind her, ending in a dark, tufted tip.
There are multiple types of jerboa, lesser, greater, Southron Wastes, Seareach, dune, desert, wasteland, ironstone, northern, southern, jungle, and Sharath.
They come in a multitude of sandy shades.

•	A three-toed reddish brown Sea of Fire jerboa nuzzles your neck lovingly.
•	Just one enormous eye is visible as a three-toed reddish brown Sea of Fire jerboa peers cautiously around a tendrilous black bat flower, the rest of her body kept well out of sight.

Watching the Sea of Fire jerboa closely, you flick your fingers at her in a teasing cadence, first this way, then that.  The rodent freezes, attention fixed on the movement, before abruptly bouncing away.  Just as quickly, she leaps close and bounces over your hand, kicking your knuckles with her tiny feet as though scoring in an impromptu game of tag.

You offer a length of deep purple shockroot to a three-toed reddish brown Sea of Fire jerboa, but she recoils with a tiny sneeze.

You offer a three-toed reddish brown Sea of Fire jerboa a handful of round hazelnuts, and she seizes them without ceremony, stuffing them between her front teeth and bearing down.  A sharp crack rings out, followed by a pause in which the Sea of Fire jerboa sits perfectly still, her eyes wide.  Then she is in motion again, her tiny jaw working through a rapid series of smaller crunches.  Her whiskers fan and retract with each new crunch, her cheeks puffing and shifting as she gnaws away.  A few fragments tumble from the corner of her mouth, and she retrieves each one, stuffing the bits deliberately back in without ever once breaking her rhythm.
