The weaving system was released in 2006 alongside the "Secrets of the Wavedancer" event. Weaving gives the user the opportunity to create wearable or held items and accessories with flowers, herbs, pelts, leaves, gemstones, feathers, and ribbons.

Weaving Tools

Weaving requires multiple weavable items, which are frequently available at various pay events and festivals.

The completed woven item made via the weaving system is called a Woven Chain, and it can take on many different forms depending on what was used to create it, how many items were used, and what noun type is selected as part of the creation process.

Multiple weavable items can be stored inside of a weaving tote, which can be used to bundle like items together. Unlike other "in-ators", weaving totes do not store the contents weightlessly, and each bundle counts as an item for the purposes of lockering the tote.

Weaving tools allow a character to turn certain found objects into weavable items. While not necessary to engage in the weaving system, they allow for a greater variety of weavable items than those available at pay events or festivals. Individual weaving tools work on different types of items such as dropped feathers, skinned critter pelts, found ribbons, foraged plants, and treasure system gems which can be turned into beads. Lathes from the set can also be unlocked to apply more cosmetic options to the gemstone beads made. Weaving tools can be stored inside of a special belt.

Secateurs from the Weave a Little Dream of Me Collection I are special tools that can be used on completed woven items to add a fluff script to them. Unbe-Weave-able Mount Tool trimmers work just like the secateurs, except they convert completed woven items into accessories that can be worn by mounts. They are an optional item intended to elevate woven items created via the weaving system.

Weavable Items

Weavable items take on a wide variety of forms when sold off the shelf. They can be altered by a merchant. Some merchants that specialize in weaving system items will alter a stack of multiple weavable items at once. When altering a weavable item, bear in mind that there are restrictions on length. You can preview how a weavable item will appear as part of a completed woven item by viewing its ANALYZE information.

You analyze the vivid orange marigold and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
A talented merchant can alter this weavable marigold. Merchants will require that the marigold can logically be woven together with a duplicate of itself or other weavable items and make sense for eventually forming an item like a garland or anklet. Appropriate items are flowers, ribbons, leaves, string, and the like. Nothing big/bulky. No "gemstone-mimic" weavables (if it can be confused with an actual gemstone, then it's a no go). No long and show descriptions are allowed at this time.

When weaving, only the adjective and noun, and sometimes part of the article, will matter, so bear this in mind. Right now, this marigold, when woven, will show up as a "gold-tinted vivid orange marigold," and if there is more than one, you will end up with some "gold-tinted vivid orange marigolds."

To get the full benefit of this marigold, you can try to WEAVE it WITH another similarly weavable item. You can also BUNDLE (and BUNDLE REMOVE) identical items.

You get no sense of whether or not the marigold may be further lightened.

Weavable items can be created via weaving tools from a variety of found objects.

Material Tool Needed Notes
Feathers Pierced with an awl Feathers dropped by a wizard's familiar or animal NPC
Gemstones Carved into a bead with a lathe Most gemstones found as part of the treasure system
Plants Trimmed with snips Flowers, leaves, and other non-herb plants or plant parts found via foraging or from a Foraged Item Prop
Pelts Cut with shears Soft critter skins and pelts obtained via skinning; carapaces, knuckles, shells and other hard objects obtained via skinning will not work with shears
Ribbons Trimmed with scissors Ribbons found as part of the treasure system or created via a Ribbonator 2000

The Ribbonator 2000 is capable of making several types of ribbons. This includes both unscripted ribbons, which need to be trimmed with the weaving tool scissors, as well as ribbons that are already weavable items. This latter feature is a higher tier unlock.

Woven Items

A woven item, also called a Woven Chain, created via the weaving system requires multiple weavable items in order to be completed. Depending on how many weavable items are used, the end product's description may vary. For example, it will appear as "loosely woven" when created with very few items and "intricately woven" when created with very many.

The following table lists the completed woven item options available and the number of items needed in a weaving chain for various types and styles.

In-Process Woven Item
You analyze the woven chain and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
This is an in-progress chain formed from weavable items. Merchants will not alter this item under any circumstances.

You can try to WEAVE chain WITH more individual weavable items. You can also try to TURN and PULL the chain.

You get no sense of whether or not the chain may be further lightened.
Completed Woven Item
You analyze the woven bracelet and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
This is a Woven Chain (i.e. it was created via weaving!) A talented merchant can alter it but only with heavy caveats: the noun cannot change unless it is to alter it back to its default wording (this item's default noun is a "bracelet"), and the long description is currently unable to be altered. You can add a show that does not contradict the hard-coded LOOK.

You get no sense of whether or not the bracelet may be further lightened.

How to Weave

At its core, weaving involves combining multiple weavable items into a chain of woven items via the WEAVE command. The completed woven item type can be changed at any point in the weaving process via TURN. Once enough weavable items have been added to the woven chain, it can be turned into a completed woven item via PULL. A completed woven item cannot be changed into a different type of woven item.

Beginning Your Chain

The two weavable items you choose to start your chain will form the long description of your created woven item. The show of the completed woven item will display how many items you used to weave your creation as well as what types of items and how many of each.

You can begin your chain with any two weavable items. This is done by WEAVE MY {ITEM #1} WITH MY {ITEM #2}. By default, if both weavable items are different, the object entered as ITEM #1 will appear before ITEM #2 in the chain regardless of which hand holds which item. If both weavable items used are identical, the woven chain will indicate that there is only one type of material in it.

>LOOK CHAIN
The woven chain has 2 things woven into it, among which you see one five-petal baby blue dewdrift and one heart-shaped misty silver leaf.

You will need to TURN the chain in order to change it into an item.

Continuing Your Chain

Once you have begun your chain, adding items to it is relatively simple. You just need to decide what you want to add and what you want to make. From there, you WEAVE CHAIN WITH {ITEM} until you have enough of everything that you want on your chain.

The chart above lists the creations and styles for each creation, based on the number of items woven into your chain. The maximum number of items you can weave into your chain for any creation is 50.

Choosing Your Creation

In order to choose what you want to make, you need to TURN CHAIN to select a type of woven item. You can TURN CHAIN until you reach your desired item, or you can TURN CHAIN TO {OPTION} if you know exactly what you want to make.

A list of valid options be viewed by attempting to TURN CHAIN TO an option that does not exist. The options listed are as follows:

Please select one of the following: ankle-cuff, anklet, armband, armbands, basket, belt, bouquet, boutonniere, bracelet, chain, choker, circlet, collar, corsage-p, corsage-w, crown, garland, girdle, headband, headdress, necklace, strand, veil, or wrist-cuff.
Please remember that corsage-p is for pinworn items, and corsage-w is for wristworn.

Once a woven item type is selected via TURN, that selection will appear in the woven chain's LOOK description. A freshly woven chain will not yet have a woven item type selected and must first be TURNed for this additional line to appear.

>GLANCE
You glance down to see a woven chain of five-petal baby blue dewdrifts and heart-shaped misty silver leaves in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.

>LOOK CHAIN

>LOOK CHAIN
The woven chain has 5 things woven into it, among which you see a few five-petal baby blue dewdrifts and one heart-shaped misty silver leaf.

Looking over the chain, you realize you could PULL it to make circlet.

You can preview if you have enough items in your woven chain to make the currently selected woven item type by using PULL.

If you have not yet added enough weavable items to your woven chain to make the selected woven item type, it will tell you that you need to add more before you can finish it.

If you have enough items in your woven chain, you are ready to finish your creation and will get a message prompting you for confirmation. This confirmation prompt will also indicate how densely woven your completed woven item will be, depending on the number of items added to the woven chain. Refer to the woven item chart for the quantity restrictions on woven density for each woven item type.

>PULL CHAIN
[You are about to turn the woven chain into a simply woven bracelet. If you are certain you wish to make this permanent change, PULL the chain again in the next 30 seconds.]

Finishing Your Creation

Once you have used WEAVE to add all the necessary weavable items to your chain and are ready to finish your creation, you need to PULL CHAIN to complete it. To complete it, you must confirm by using PULL CHAIN a second time.

This step is final and permanent. Make sure that you have your in-process woven chain exactly as you want it before confirming!

>PULL CHAIN
You gather the ends of the chain and carefully weave them together to form a simply woven bracelet of five-petal baby blue dewdrifts and heart-shaped misty silver leaves.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

>GLANCE
You glance down to see a simply woven bracelet of five-petal baby blue dewdrifts and heart-shaped misty silver leaves in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.

>LOOK BRACELET
The woven bracelet has 5 things woven into it, among which you see a few five-petal baby blue dewdrifts and one heart-shaped misty silver leaf.

If you accidentally add too many weavable items to a woven chain than a woven object type can support, you will not be able to complete it via PULL:

>LOOK CHAIN
The woven chain has 14 things woven into it, among which you see one cluster of soft white baby breath, a pair of gold-tinted vivid orange marigolds, a few five-petal baby blue dewdrifts, and several heart-shaped misty silver leaves.

Looking over the chain, you realize you could PULL it to make bracelet.

>PULL CHAIN
You consider the bulk of the woven chain and determine it would be too cumbersome to pull into a bracelet.

You will need to TURN CHAIN to a different woven object type capable of supporting that number of weavable items if you want to complete it.

Featured Material Order

Featured materials are the weavable items added to the woven item that will appear in its final long description. While all items used to create the woven item are included in its show description, only two can be featured in its long description.

The materials featured as part of the woven chain's long description are the same ones that will be featured in the completed woven item's long description.

Using Similar Items

It is possible to use multiple weavable items with the same description. If both weavable items used are identical, the in-process woven chain will indicate that there is only one type of material in it.

>GLANCE
You glance down to see a blade of frost-tinged grass in your right hand and a blade of frost-tinged grass in your left hand.

>LOOK CHAIN

You will need to TURN the chain in order to change it into an item.

Completing a project with just a single type of weavable item used will cause the completed woven item to reference just that one material. Otherwise, there is no difference between it and other completed woven items made from multiple materials.

Using Multiple Items

A completed woven item can only feature two materials woven into it as part of its long description. While more than two different weavable items can be used as part of its construction, which ones appear in the completed woven item's long description is determined in a specific way. As a general rule of thumb, the two items with the greatest quantity added will be featured in the long description, although there are caveats. Regardless of which materials are featured in the completed woven item's long description, all materials added will still be included in the woven item's show description.

When the in-process woven chain is first started via WEAVE {ITEM #1} WITH {ITEM #2} while holding two different weavable items, the object entered as ITEM #1 will appear before ITEM #2 in the chain regardless of which hand holds which item.

You will need to TURN the chain in order to change it into an item.

Adding a new type of weavable item to an already-started woven chain will not change its description so long as the new item's quantity is less than or equal to the two currently featured materials.

However, if the new type of weavable item increases in quantity greater than either of the two previously featured materials, it will now be featured instead of one of those two materials.

>WEAVE CHAIN WITH DEWDRIFT

You will need to TURN the chain in order to change it into an item.

The order that different materials are featured in the long description can be modified by careful planning.

Once a woven chain has been started and is in process with two or more items, the determination of which items are featured (and in which order) for its long description is prioritized in the following way:

  1. The material with the greatest quantity will always be featured first in the long description's order.
  2. If two materials are tied for the greatest quantity, the first one featured will always be the first material to reach that amount.
  3. If three or more materials are tied for the greatest quantity, the first and second ones featured will always be the first and second to reach that amount. Other materials will not be featured if they were third or later to reach that tied quantity.
  4. If material #1 and material #2 are tied as the greatest quantity (and thus featured in the long description) and material #3's quantity is increased greater than material #1 and material #2, then the order of featured material changes. Material #3 becomes the new first material featured, material #1 becomes the new second material featured, and material #2 is no longer featured at all.

No matter what, all materials used will still show up in the completed woven item's show description.

This table shows how a woven chain's long description changes depending on which items were added and when:
