Powdered Gems (11/2007)

Subject: Alchemy Recipes Updates

A large number of Alchemy recipes has been updated.

The core of this update addresses the difficulty of collecting the large numbers of gems requried for training Potions and Trinkets skills. The majority of Alchemy recipes that previously used whole gems have been changed to use powdered versions of the same gem.

Additionally, the Alchemy shops in pure guilds will now stock a selection of powdered gems for sale. The gems available in a given guild are dependant on realm, and the requirements that profession has. If there are powdered gems that seem to be missing, and yet required in an Alchemy recipe, please post here and I will be happy to look into it.

Along with this update, the previously missed changes to Minor Spiritual recipes should now be live, including boil or simmer in many recipes that lacked either before.

As usual, ASK the skilled masters in your local guild hall to UPDATE your recipes books to have any recipes you have written updated.

The following recipes have been adjusted to be taught at rank 50 and to include the CHANNEL process to support training at and beyond rank 50 in the Trinkets skill. All players will be assigned to see a skilled master at rank 50 in Trinkets to receive one of these recipes. Skilled masters will update old versions of these recipes in recipe tomes as usual.

Additionally, to address the same issue in the Potions skill, a new recipe has been added at rank 50 for Wizard and Sorcerer. A similar recipe is forthcoming for Clerics and Empaths. All players will be assigned to visit the skilled masters at rank 50 in Potions to receive this recipe.

Again, this issue remains OPEN for Clerics and Empaths at or beyond rank 50 in Potions, but a recipe is currently in the works. Hopefully, we'll have it for you ASAP. :)

Ayanad Crystals Galore (2/2008)

Alchemists of sufficient rank to infuse mana into their solutions (rank 30 general alchemy) will find three new recipes that should help them (and others) progress through general alchemy.

Each of these three recipes effectively takes one type of ayanad crystal and uses it to produce two crystals of the next lower tier through a bit of time and coin.

Each recipe is structured as follows: add crystalline solution, add an essence shard, *, infuse mana.

The asterisk (*) in the recipe is replaced with the dust that is extracted from a given type of ayanad crystal. Faintly shimmering dust has been introduced as an extract of n'ayanad crystals, while faintly radiant and glowing dusts remain extracts of t'ayanad and s'ayanad crystals respectively. Fainly glimmering dust from ayanad crystals yields nothing of use.

To reiterate, the three new recipes are as follows:

ayanad: add crystalline solution, add an essence shard, add faintly glowing dust, infuse mana

s'ayanad: add crystalline solution, add an essence shard, add faintly radiant dust, infuse mana

t'ayanad: add crystalline solution, add an essence shard, add faintly shimmering dust, infuse mana

Again, these recipes yield a cluster of two crystals on tier lower than the crystal used to create them. Clusters may be separated by using either of the following syntaxes:

GET {item} FROM {cluster}

-or-

GET {number} {cluster}

As an example, if you create "a cluster of ayanad crystals", you can use either "GET CRYSTAL FROM CRYSTALS" or "GET 1 CRYSTALS" to remove a single crystal from the cluster. Lose crystals cannot be added into existing clusters, or clustered together with other loose crystals.

These recipes are considered rank 30 recipes for training purposes, and can be used as 'tough' recipes. With these recipes in place, the recipe for essence shards has been reduced in effective rank.

Yes, a single n'ayanad crystal can effectively be used for eight (8) 'tough' infuse reps, yeilding a total of eight (8) ayanad crystals.

Phase II, Scene I (2/2008)

75 new recipes have been added to the alchemy system. This represents a fraction of new recipes to come over the next few weeks. Training NPCs will start teaching these new recipes immediately.

In addition, most alchemy products created from this point forward will now be purchased by the alchemist shop in local towns. Items which are part of the normal treasure system (e.g. oak wands, white crystals...) will be purchased by the pawn shop.

Please post in the appropriate topic if there are any huge issues.

Enjoy!

All right, enough silliness for one day. I'm just glad to see you folks have still got a sense of humor, even after the exposure to my lame jokes. No more gross-tasting sauce or muffins; none of us are Betty Crocker.

I haven't updated in a while. Here goes.

I have 73 new recipes that are ready to go any time. They just need a green light from QC. This batch includes some high-power versions of items you've already discovered, plus a lot of items that have been requested here and in other folders (items that you didn't know had already been approved). There is a big gob of stat enhancing items, which are always crowd pleasers.

The rank breakdown looks like this:
General items: A bunch in the mid-50s
Cleric potions: Ranges from 25 to 62
Cleric trinkets: Ranges from 18 to 62
Empath potions: 28 to 62
Empath trinkets: 18 to 62
Sorcerer potions: 32 to 62
Sorcerer trinkets: 31 to 62
Wizard potions: 26 to 62
Wizard trinkets: 31 to 62

As you can see, there's still more work to do. After this will eventually be one more big dump of recipes (probably another 70 total) that will fill in some of the apparent gaps, like sorcerer potions in the 20s range, etc. But there will be plenty of items to choose from at any point to train on, because we all know the thirst for climbing the rank ladder.

The library side questy thingy is close to being ready. I need to do a lot of textual polishing, but it's been spitting out recipes to me for a while now.

Screen shots!

>search potions
Potions, potions, potions. That's all you can think about at the moment. Hopefully some former contributors to this library cared about potions as much as you do now. You pore over the shelves, looking for promising sources...
Finding a sizable selection of material, you return to a reading station, ready to begin. You should now READ what you have found, and occasionally PONDER the implications.
Roundtime: 9 sec.

You've read a great deal of this selection and you have a fairly decent understanding of it.

>read
You read more of the texts you've collected.
>
While studying the text, you come upon a crucial piece of information!
You inquire about a particular parchment, based on the clues you have drawn from this text. Without even consulting his catalog, an assistant librarian says, "Ah, yes. That would be in section 'Eda', shelf 'Noj', rack 'Beq'."

>search eda noj beq
There is a lot of mention in this reading about higher awareness through self-purification. Would you rather SEARCH for books on astronomy, meditation, or crystallography?
>
>search meditation
Having found a few connected threads in your research, you try to find common ideas that might point to some lost bit of knowledge.
>
You locate several manuscripts that should provide some vital clues.
>
It appears that you are on the track of finding a recipe that will create some kind of talisman.

You find a few texts, but they don't seem strongly enough tied to your research focus. Perhaps you should do some more reading.

All of this research is causing you to lose focus to mental fatigue. You should review your materials again.

Ow, my neurons.

Boosts to item charges (5/2009)

A number of items have gotten an increase in charges/uses/sips/rubs/pours/whatevers:

Another pair of items will be undergoing a change in the near future, namely the sneezing powders. Their charges will also be increased, but perhaps more significantly, I expect to alter the formula for each so that they will require fewer essences of fire -- a lot fewer. The notion is not lost on me that this has the potential to instill hard feelings in some folks. Let's be kind to each other when discussing.

Alchemy Dye Alteration Confirmation (3/2010)

>So this is the fourth merchant whom I've tried to have talked into making me a "glowing white leather alchemy bag" after I provided glowing white dye, made using glowing dye additive. After the first wouldn't touch it, I even dyed the bag myself! It's currently a glowing white cloth bag. -Fleurs

The policy regarding alterations using glowing dye created through alchemy has been clarified with the GM crew. The intent of the glowing additives is to dye items a glowing color. Future alterations requested when a glowing dye is provided should only be declined if the merchant has an in-character reason for doing so.

Note that this does not change the policy on what can or cannot be dyed, as certain materials will not hold a dye.

Alchemy Dye Additive Adjective Change (8/2010)

Until now, dye additives would replace a dye color's adjective with the additive's adjective, so for example "a light red vial of dye" would become "a glittering red vial of dye". This has been changed so both adjectives are combined (e.g. "a glittering light red vial of dye"). The dyed item will also have both adjectives, of course.
