A promissory note (also, chit or scrip) is a written promise of payment issued by the maker of the note, in this case one of the many banks of Elanthia. Notes are generally accepted at banks as well as many town and festival shops.

Notes are frequently used in trade by adventurers in order to avoid issues with encumbrance and to keep monies safe from pickpockets.

Notably, raffle tickets cannot be purchased with notes. There are also certain contraptions or places that may take only silver, such as a darkbox or some treasure piles.
