It is said that a bell crafted of mithril with a dreamstone clapper is what allows people, particularly clerics and empaths, to sense a recent death. The bell was created by the Arkati, Eonak, at the request of Lorminstra. Any adventurer, not just clerics and empaths, is capable of hearing the toll of this bell, should they decide to listen (by entering the command SET SHOWDEATHS ON).

Dreamstones enhance telepathic powers and it is known that crystal amulets are magical items that are crafted to imitate the properties of a pure dreamstone amulet, and are crafted by imprinting the properties of dreamstone into a crystal rock.

Behind the Scenes

Dreamstones are purely fictional. The only other notable appearance of a dreamstone is in the Super Nintendo game Chrono Trigger, by Squaresoft. In Chrono Trigger, the dreamstone is a red crystal-like rock that conducts electricity 15-20 times better than silver and is capable of holding an electrical charge for extended periods of time. The sword, the Masamune, was crafted of dreamstone.[1]
