Maluverre Sil'Andruthile is a scholar of the Grey Obelisk, one of the Illistim societies. He eventually revealed that he was aligned with Gosaena and part of a longstanding Illistim cult dedicated to her, in which he at one time served as its leader.
An eccentric and talkative scholar, he became a pivotal character in the Griffin Sword Saga, although his initial involvement was that of a neutral party content to observe and advise those who chose to enjoy his conversation. He often entertained guests in his home off of Erissian Var in Ta'Illistim. Early in the storyline, the wrote a news article offering an initial accounting of the elven perspective of the war, which previously had focused only on the west yet had made a sudden turn eastward.
When Ta'Illistim itself was besieged, Maluverre finally chose to drop his stance of neutrality and aid the Resistance in defense of his home. He ferried them aboard his airship to the flying miscere'golab. While he did not take part in the fight that destroyed the creature, without his aid the defenders would not have been able to strike it - nor safely escape before its disintegration. Following its destruction and the war withdrawing from the east, Maluverre traveled to Solhaven "on holiday". There, he resumed his former role of neutral conversationalist, offering vague advice and hints of rumors to any who chose to speak with him.
Maluverre's alignment with Gosaena became significant toward the end of the storyline when he was revealed as the Keeper of the Present: one of three emissaries alongside Sylvirria Azarielle and Volierre. Centuries before, Maluverre had belonged to a secret Illistim cult dedicated to Gosaena, which militantly revered what it defined as her two aspects: the Right and Left Hands, which represented her compassionate or ruthless approach to final death, respectively. It was during his time in this cult that Maluverre met Sylvirria, a gifted cartographer whose esoteric interests mirrored his own. The two fell in love, and eventually Sylvirria divulged that she had been searching for the site of one of Gosaena's first temples, which was believed to predate the elven empire. After a significant breakthrough in her research, she left alone to find it.
In the intervening time, Maluverre had ascended in power within the cult and was appointed its spiritual leader. Due to the timing of his ascension, he was also responsible for transitioning the cult's symbolic focus from the Right Hand, of benevolence, to the Left, of ruthlessness. Sylvirria's return shortly after this point was not favorable. While she had been successful in finding the ancient temple, something had happened there that had caused her to change. She had become the Advent. She had black feathered wings that had grown from her back, and she was plagued with visions of the future. She acted erratically and with a destructive power that was alarming. When she refused to divulge the location of the hidden temple, the Left Hand attempted to assassinate her, yet were ultimately unable to do so even as she stood there waiting for an arrow to pierce her that could cause her no harm. Maluverre was bound by the doctrines of the cult to show no compassion when its council issued judgement. Sylvirria was imprisoned within a crystal, where she was held in stasis. Maluverre himself entombed her within it, though given their shared past, he could not bare to continue in his role and stepped down as the cult's leader.
In the time that followed, Maluverre managed to piece together the clues to find the temple that his beloved had visited. There, he, too, became changed, and as the Keeper of the Present, he was the method by which all memory of those who ascended into Gosaena's silent ranks were never remembered once they had gone. He became how they had disappeared from society and the pages of history evermore. And with this, he was able to pass by anyone, anywhere, unremembered, which was a talent he used to great effect. Maluverre secreted away the crystal containing Sylvirria, hiding her in the basement of his home in Ta'Illistim. There, he hid in plain sight, with members of the cult unable to recognize him. While he tried many times to wake Sylvirria, he was never able to do so. Centuries passed before the events of the Griffin Sword Saga.
All of this was finally revealed as the third emissary made himself known. Volierre, who became a member of the cult much later, had also found the hidden temple. And he, too, became changed as a result, becoming the Foundation. Though the cult had bid him find Maluverre and Sylvirria, his role as Foundation would not have permitted him otherwise. He finally located Maluverre in Solhaven, and for the first time, Maluverre recognized that someone could actually see him in spite of his unusual powers. All three emissaries were parts of a ritual that each had started independently of one another, and they were all bound to complete it together. Maluverre brought Volierre and a group of witnesses with them back to his home in Ta'Illistim via airship, where he revealed Sylvirria, still imprisoned in the crystal. Volierre was able to awaken her as Maluverre was not. Sylvirria refused to participate in the ritual right away and first took flight, bearing two scythes of black and white. With them, she utterly destroyed the undead and demonic armies that were sweeping across Elanthia in the final days of the Griffin Sword Saga. The armies had been sent by the Dark Alliance as its leaders prepared to finish their full corruption of the reassembled Griffin Sword from within their sanctuary. Upon returning to Maluverre and Volierre, Sylvirria agreed to finally complete the ritual - which was intended to raise one of them as an Angel of Gosaena, destined for the Void. Sylvirria was the one fated for that role. Before she left, the ritual completed, she gave a silver sickle to an adherent of neutrality.
In the wake of the sorrowful farewell, Maluverre had one final thing to do. Boarding his airship once again, he ferried the Resistance to the floating sanctuary of the Dark Alliance, where they fought the final forces. In the end, the same sickle that Sylvirria had given them was used to destroy the Griffin Sword. Maluverre has since faded into obscurity, withdrawing from public sight.
