Synopsis

Mayoral candidate and Steward of the Coffers Alendrial delivers a public statement on her campaign. She's seen tyranny and oppression and wept beside the persecuted in a life that's taught her to appreciate the true gem of Wehnimer's Landing and instilled within her the courage and tenacity to protect it. Sacrificing decency for depravity is not an option, and shields and swords are equally important to leverage at necessary times. Freedom must be maintained and will endure from diplomacy, shared values, and proven trust. She says the Landing has never been more ready to craft our own involvement in the future of the region while the fledgling barony is in its infancy, and the Landing doesn't need a war that creates more orphans than opportunities.

Alendrial states that the other candidates, Amos and Thadston, have done good things for the town and she won't diminish them after there have already been months of disparaging comments, cynicism, and hostility. However, she contends that they're not the leaders we need at this moment in Wehnimer's history. She says a divided town is vulnerable and we're too busy clinging to differences, having lost sight of our similarities that outweigh and outnumber them. Alendrial concludes by asking everyone to remember her words, but more importantly remember why they stay in Wehnimer's Landing and why it is our hope. She looks forward to serving and standing beside everyone.

Idle Chatter

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Nalbon disk, the granite Sluggard disk, the Christielle disk, a gargantuan cloudy grey tiger, the Korpacz disk, the Guennwhfar disk, the flaming Nairena disk, a fuzzy brown bandicoot, the Spharai disk, a large acorn, the Zeysa disk, the Azyel disk, the Xieka disk, the Laekia disk, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, a chubby ivory ceramic narwhal with an arathiel-beaded horn, a silver-shaded fluffy manul, an austere off-white page, an austere off-white page, a large acorn, a round silver-banded barrel, an herbal remedy donation bin, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it and an old well.

Guennwhfar exclaims, "Mine!"

Nairena says, "I belong to myself."

Leafiara muses, "Oh, back shortly."

Speaking to Guennwhfar, Nairena says, "No you wont."

Guennwhfar says, "Well, maybe yes, maybe no."

Speaking to Guennwhfar, Nairena says, "Maybe im looking for someone to keep me and my bed warm at night."

Guennwhfar says, "Well doh, we have been there before."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk asks, "You got a puppy too?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Tayler says, "That's Ziggy, he's everybodies puppy."

Guennwhfar asks, "No not recently; and whose fault is that?"

Speaking to Pukk, Tayler says, "What I said but to you."

Speaking to Tayler, Pukk asks, "Oh. That's your puppy?"

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara says, "Yeah, not mine... I only have a fox and a wolf pack."

Speaking to Guennwhfar, Nairena says, "We established borders."

Tayler says, "Ziggy the puppy and Zenos the cat."

Nairena runs her hand over the wet corded grey fur of a sharp-nosed grey puppy with long corded fur.

A sharp-nosed grey puppy with long corded fur wags his thin tail happily and licks Nairena's hand.

Nairena exclaims, "Ziggy!"

Speaking to Tayler, Pukk says, "Okay. You always have the stuff. I'm used to that."

Nairena says, "Best name ever."

Pukk says, "I feel better."

Leafiara says, "Hmm, where did I put his bugle..."

Speaking to Pukk, Tayler says, "I don't have all the stuff."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I'm thinking about making you the Cryheart for tonight."

Awaiting Alendrial

A town clerk's voice shouts in the distance, "Lady Alendrial will be outside of Moot Hall shortly to make a campaign announcement. She expects to arrive in a few minutes."

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara exclaims, "Your call, Herald!"

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "You need to stay in one place long enough for me to do this."

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara says, "I was just getting my fox bugle."

Pukk recites:

"Everybody go East!"

Faiyth says, "I still need to see this other guy..."

Aerocus asks, "Campaign?"

[Town Square, East]

Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions. Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night. You also see the web-draped Missoni disk, a lazy wild deep red dog, a downtrodden wasteland spirit that is flying around, a black imperial wagon with a glowing blue-white pylon on it, the Moot Hall and a large purple wooden barrel.

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I cheated."

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara exclaims, "Dastardly!"

Aerocus exclaims, "Campaign anncoument?!"

[General] Rysul exclaims, "YES YES YES!"

[General] Rysul thinks, "Life is wonderful."

Thrassus says, "She is going to run for Mayor."

Pukk says, "Stormy is going to announce that she is also running for Mayor."

Aerocus says, "Mayor."

Stormyrain states, "Absolutely not."

Aerocus says, "Of defense sure."

[General] Sylthie thinks, "Highly debatable, but do go on."

Tikba uncertainly says, "I thought she already announced that she is running for mayor."

Pukk exclaims, "Don't listen to her. She's a politician now. Vote for Stormy! A person we can trust!"

Tayler says, "Maybe not officially."

Leafiara says, "She did--or, well, a clerk announced it for her."

Speaking in Sylvankind to Tikba, Kelfyr says something you don't understand.

Faiyth says, "Maybe she wants to announce we're all getting free cookies."

Pukk exclaims, "Free cookies?!"

Speaking to Leafiara, Tayler says, "Oh... yeah, I guess the clerk did out her."

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr says, "I'm going to sit down and teach you the old tongue."

Pukk says, "Cookies are the best."

Speaking wryly to Kelfyr, Tikba says, "I already speak the old tongue."

Tayler says, "Which old tongue? There are many."

Speaking to Tikba, Kelfyr asks, "What, modern Elven?"

Speaking to Tayler, Stormyrain says, "There is only one."

Tikba calmly says, "Aelotian."

Kiyna says, "I think all the tongues are pretty old... though I guess it's relative."

Kelfyr says, "Really coming down out here."

Speaking to Raelee, Pukk asks, "Miss me?"

Speaking to Pukk, Raelee says, "No."

Faiyth asks, "Why is it always raining when important stuff is happening?"

Speaking to Raelee, Pukk says, "I knew it."

Speaking to Kiyna, Stormyrain offers, "I imagine from your perspective that is very true."

Nairena yells, "The gloves are off!"

Speaking to Faiyth, Kiyna says, "Arkati have a bad sense of humor."

Speaking to Faiyth, Kelfyr says, "Helps clean the blood away faster."

Mourdeyan says, "T'make your life miserable."

From nearby, you hear Rysul yell, "Did they get wet?"

From nearby, you hear Guennwhfar yell, "Get back here Nairena~!"

Speaking to Faiyth, Tayler says, "Keeps the umbrella merchants happy, they have a racket."

Mourdeyan says, "An mine....and his, and hers."

Faiyth says, "True Landingiates just get damp.."

Mourdeyan says, "Not me...part cat, hate the rain."

Tayler says, "My magical teleport cloak just transports all the water that falls onto it someplace on the glacier, so next time you slip and fall, think of me fondly."

Goldstr says, "I jess say Yes Dear to Sister-in0arms Lady Aimriht."

Tikba lightly says, "It is coincidence. It is always rainy around midnight in the Landing, and that is when our busy public servants have time to meet with us."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "The fact that Raelee didn't try to use me as some sort of magic experiment means that I'm wearing her down. In another couple hundred years. I might be able to make her smile."

Kelfyr says, "Could really use a gazebo out here or something."

Tikba uncertainly says, "Though I do not know why it always rains late at night."

Faiyth says, "So I know who to blame for that broken high heel..."

Pukk says, "Weird weather does that."

Speaking neutrally to Pukk, Raelee asks, "Are you absolutely certain you are not a part of an experiment?"

Mourdeyan says, "I could be brother in arms."

Pukk says, "Of course I would know....."

Speaking to Faiyth, Tayler says, "You'll have to speak with my Barrister about that, Ordim."

Mourdeyan says, "Keep folks guessin."

Speaking to Tikba, Missoni says, "Perhaps the moisture from the heat of the day gathers, and when it cools..."

Pukk says, "Wait.."

Aerocus says, "What kind of party is this."

Faiyth says, "Make a claim against yer glacier insurance? Will do..."

Pukk exclaims, "It's the not-knowing that is going to bother me the most!"

Speaking to Aerocus, Faiyth says, "Free cookie party."

Speaking helpfully to Aerocus, Tikba explains, "It is a campaign announcement."

Aerocus says, "Whoa."

Pukk exclaims, "Cookies!"

Speaking to Aerocus, Tayler says, "The worst kind of party, a political party."

Aerocus says, "You had me at cookie."

Pukk exclaims, "I'm all better now!"

Mourdeyan says, "Cookie woul'be fine."

Speaking to Pukk, Raelee says, "I will make note of that."

Faiyth says, "Hopefully it's not raisin ones..."

Pukk says, "I just felt a bit of my soul leave."

Mourdeyan says, "Campaign doesn taste near as good...cept maybe raisin."

Aerocus asks, "The question what do I get for my VOTE?"

Speaking to Aerocus, Kiyna says, "Praise and adulation..."

Faiyth says, "Not killed."

Speaking to Aerocus, Leafiara says, "Can probably find out soon if there's a debate or town halls or something."

Tikba removes a green sapphire from in her suede purse.

Tikba offers Aerocus a green sapphire.

Mourdeyan says, "Always a town hall."

Speaking to Kiyna, Aerocus says, "And that's THE TYPE OF CHANGE WE NEED."

Aerocus accepts Tikba's green sapphire.

Faiyth says, "Bribery... I see you."

Faiyth says, "I'd have held out for a blue one.."

Speaking amusedly to Aerocus, Tikba says, "Now you must vote."

Pukk says, "See if Xorus was mayor. We wouldn't have any of this corruption or crime or anything."

Pukk says, "Everybody would be animates."

Kiyna says, "I take bribes. You won't necessarily get anything from me for them, but I take them."

Aerocus says, "Hardly a bribe, the citizen 'er are hard working and busy I' m a proxy for their concerns."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr says, "I assume Alendrial probably announcing a town hall, and perhaps giving some opening statements on some stuff, since she's been out of the spotlight for so long, not too many people know her, vs say Thadston's or Amos's opinions."

Tayler says, "Surely not EVERYONE would be animates."

Aerocus says, "This sapphireis fredom."

Pukk says, "Except him and Lylia."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara exclaims, "Certainly hope that's the case!"

Speaking in Faendryl, Xorus says something you don't understand.

Xorus says, "Naturally."

Tayler says, "I think it's illegal to reanimate other Faendryl."

Faiyth says, "Definitely gonna have to see this Amos feller..."

Missoni says, "It is not."

Pukk says, "Xorus doesn't care. He's Xorus."

Alendrial's Announcement

Lady Alendrial just arrived.

Faiyth says, "So she finally brought the cookies.."

Alendrial smiles.

Alendrial bows.

Aerocus says, "Oh."

Alendrial says, "Good evening, everyone."

Mourdeyan says, "Evenin."

Leafiara cheerfully greets, "Good evening!"

Speaking to Alendrial, Goldstr says, "Evenin M'lady."

Alendrial says, "Sister-in-arms. Congratulations."

Alendrial nods at Mourdeyan.

Mourdeyan says, "Thank you very kindly, I was honored."

Mourdeyan smiles at Alendrial.

Alendrial nods.

Mourdeyan asks, "How fare ye this evenin?"

Mourdeyan cocks her head at Alendrial.

Alendrial says, "I appreciate you all coming this night, especially in the rain."

Alendrial says, "Such is our way."

Alendrial smirks.

Mourdeyan nods.

Alendrial says, "I am well Mourdeyan, thank you."

Alendrial says, "As I've officially kicked off my campaign, I have prepared a statement if you will."

Alendrial says, "It is important to let my own voice be heard, before others decide it for me."

Mourdeyan says, "Indeed."

Alendrial smiles.

Alendrial recites:

"In the spirit of Wehnimer's Landing, it is important that you hear first from me, long before my opponents can shape history to fit the perception they would wish for you. "

Alendrial recites:

"Some might say I am not a child of Wehnimer's. That is true, I am of human and elven blood, born in Idolone to a mother who loved me, and a father who called the sea his family. But I would argue that one does not need to be birthed inside these walls to cherish the promise of Wehnimer's. On the contrary, I have seen the darkness of tyranny and oppression. I have wept beside those whose flesh had been flayed by the whips of prelates. I have held children as they passed beyond the Gate simply because of their blood and the madness of the world around them. If anything, my life has taught me to recognize and appreciate the true gem that is Wehnimer's Landing and has instilled within me the courage and tenacity to protect it."

Goldstr says, "As shoul be."

Alendrial recites:

"But at all costs? No. I am not the Mother you know today. If we sacrifice our decency for depravity, then we become no different than the monsters beyond our gates. If we build a tower of freedom on the bones of others, then how much better can we be? A shield is as equally important as a sword and one must have the strength and wisdom to leverage both at the exact times they are necessary. Freedom is earned, but it is also maintained. To do so requires more than inked pamphlets, or raucous gatherings, or rooftop parades. It requires more than flowery words, airy promises, and plentiful banquets."

Mourdeyan says, "Here here."

Alendrial recites:

"Freedom endures when there is mutual respect, gained from diplomacy, gained from shared values, and proven trust. None of which are a river that flows in one direction. Instead, they are roads of cobbled stones, allowing north to south, east to west. Every direction. Strength is a mechanism for peace, not for conflict."

Alendrial recites:

"Some might say I am a child of the Empire. Of this, it is still true. But no child is defined by their parents, anymore than the city from which I was born should determine my future, my level of compassion, or my capacity to lead. The Barony of Darkstone is inevitable. The time for discussion passed years ago, of which I presume by design. But while the fledgling nation is still in its infancy, the value and position of Wehnimer's Landing has never been more ready to craft our own involvement in the future of the region. "

Alendrial recites:

"Will we act the petulant child who shakes fists at the sky and cries that life is not fair? To do so only ensures our great town misses out on potential and invites scorn and belittlement that is not fitting to fall upon our people. Do we wave our swords and waggle our tongues and threaten blood and battle? To do that only exasperates the situation and pushes us into a war that creates more orphans than opportunities. "

Alendrial recites:

"I will not take this time to diminish my political opponents. I think we have seen far too many months of disparaging comments, over the top cynicism and befuddling hostility. I can tell you many a good thing Amos has done for this town, regardless of what you think drives him. I can tell you many more a great thing Thadston has done and has sacrificed. Each in their own way has shown the capacity to take decisive action and lead. But are they the leader we need at this moment in Wehnimer's history? "

Alendrial recites:

"I would tell you that they are not. You know it, deep down, beneath the emotions, beneath the worry, beneath the strings of loyalty, you know it. If you elect me, I will not be your Mayor forever. I do not seek a crown. But I want our streets filled again with the hawking of merchants, the laughter of children, the squall of seagulls from the bay. I want our neighbors' hands to be calloused from toiling in the farm, or building homes along south ring road, not from sleepless nights gripping a blade and leaping at shadows. "

Alendrial recites:

"We are vulnerable when divided. We are too busy clinging to the differences that roughen our edges but have lost sight of the similarities that connect us all. The latter far outweighs and outnumbers the former. This election season, remember my words, but most of all, remember why you stay in Wehnimer's Landing. Whether you came here, or were born here, it is now your home. If you vote for Wehnimer's Landing, then we truly have a path forward."

Alendrial recites:

"I am Alendrial DeArchon and I look forward to serving and standing beside you."

Alendrial smiles.

Alendrial bows.

Speaking in Faendryl, Tayler says something you don't understand.

Pukk says, "Wow. All that was good! Except with you said the good things about Amos...but the rest..."

Leafiara cheers, "Hear, hear!"

Alendrial says, "There will be no questions tonight, the hour is late, and I've work to do. But thank you all for your attendance and attention, and perhaps in just over a week, your votes."

Mourdeyan says, "Much to think on."

Alendrial says, "I look forward to the town halls."

Alendrial says, "Goodnight."

Lady Alendrial just entered the Moot Hall.

Discussion Afterward

Pukk exclaims, "Good night!"

Leafiara earnestly says, "Very excited. Thank you for your courage and wisdom."

Pukk says, "She didn't throw a chair that is always a plus."

Tikba says, "She certainly has many advantages over Thadston."

Kiyna says, "We're still in the chair splinter zone. Careful."

Mourdeyan says, "We'll see how this shakes out."

Tayler asks, "Pretty words are well and good, but has anyone seen her under pressure?"

Tikba wryly says, "I fear if Thadston wishes me dead, hiding will not avail me."

Pukk says, "I was hoping to ask her if she would allow kobolds to join Landing if they seeked citizenship."

Goldstr exclaims, "Whew!"

Speaking to Tikba, Pukk says, "Don't try to hide in a inn. He will just barge in there and have you killed."

Speaking to Pukk, Leafiara says, "To be fair, that was a tavern."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "Doubtful."

Goldstr says, "She impressed me."

Aerocus says, "T'kirem clan seattles issues by bare wreslting a bear."

Speaking to Tikba, Pukk corrects, "Tavern."

Mourdeyan says, "Just patrol fr bandits, never seen em out there."

Aerocus says, "And it's also a pun."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "I slept there so much..."

Vaemyr says, "Her ideals are many of the things I've tried to say for a year, I wonder how she'll actually do with getting our disparent factions re-aligned since we haven't had much luck otherwise."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk says, "And we really need to work on those guys guarding the door. I mean really...Oh here's Thadston..oh he knows the password everything must be okay..."

Tikba neutrally says, "She is clever, and attentive."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara asks, "...isn't every candidate expressing ideals you've tried to say for a year?"

Tikba mildly says, "Much like Elidal in that way."

Speaking to Leafiara, Vaemyr asks, "Is thadston?"

Stormyrain says, "She is far more calculating and intuitive than Elidal."

Aerocus says, "Are there going to be debates? that's when the rolton meets the shear."

Speaking to Vaemyr, Leafiara says, "At one time. Perhaps not by now, fair."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Tikba admits, "You may be right. I have only met her twice now."

Stormyrain says, "She lacks the naivete Elidal has."

Tayler says, "Seems entirely too reasonable, a solid, "People's choice"."

Goldstr says, "If she do become Mayor, I would hope Thadston be her council."

Perigourd says, "I think you mean idealism."

Speaking to Tayler, Kelfyr asks, "Is that how far we've come, that there is a too reasonable?"

Speaking to Tayler, Stormyrain says, "She has significant history here."

Pukk says, "If Thadston was her council then all he would say is "Smash chair!"."

Leafiara says, "We'll see who emerges as the people's choice, but she's certainly mine."

Speaking to Leafiara, Tayler asks, "Well, you dislike Amos and Thadston had you hung... so I suppose the only choice, no?"

Speaking to Perigourd, Stormyrain says, "If you are responding to me, no I meant naivete. He's extremely young. Of course he possess that, and it leads to his idealism, and neither are a negative trait. He certainly has not been a Baron before."

Speaking to Kelfyr, Mourdeyan says, "If she's too intuitive, and too reasonable she may upset individual agendas."

Pukk says, "Besides. Somebody told me that Thadston is in love with Lylia so much that he married a statue of her."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Perigourd says, "Few have."

Speaking to Tayler, Leafiara says, "Oh, even if her opposition were more favorable, there aren't many I'd prefer."

Mourdeyan says, "Many will vote on that premise."

Stormyrain says, "I admire the job Elidal is doing, and the heart with which he is doing it with."

Xorus says, "One can hardly fault him for that."

Vaemyr says, "We do need to stop beating ourselves up though, creating more enemies for ourselves, and start building strength for what's to come, whether it be whatever the Barony ends up disturbing in darkstone, or building economic strength, or creating claims and laws in our territories to protect our interests."

Leafiara says, "I don't even think she's yet mentioned her bravery in acting to protect people against Chaston's crusades."

Speaking to Xorus, Stormyrain says, "It is not a fault, it just--is."

Tikba politely says, "Elidal has certainly been effective when it came to discussion with the Landing, at least."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Xorus says, "I meant Thadston marrying the statue of Lylia."

Speaking to Leafiara, Stormyrain offers, "Yes she took a strong role, with Ayred at her side, of moving those in danger out of danger."

Tikba says, "I cannot fault his success."

Speaking to Xorus, Stormyrain says, "Oh! Yes well, one cannot fault him for that certainly."

Stormyrain amusedly asks, "Which of us would turn that down?"

Xorus says, "Gutstorm certainly sees the sense in it."

Mourdeyan says, "But Elidal isna runnin for Mayor."

Leafiara agrees, "Guts is very envious."

Pukk says, "They both have that stoney stare that seems to look right through you."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Vaemyr says, "I think Elidal is an has been a good leader for his people. And I think he can be a friend to the landing in the future, but he is the barony's leader first certainly."

Tikba politely says, "I think Elidal would like very much to be a good leader for his people."

Tikba mildly says, "We must hope for all our sakes he can be so."

Mourdeyan says, "Well, we're off t'patrol for bandits."

Pookia exclaims, "Same!"

Pukk asks, "Pookia is now going to throw chairs?"

Xorus says, "When everyone tires of these moderate candidates, I will be sure to begin funding deat... paramilitary groups for support."
