by Leafiara Autumnwind of the TownCrier

Short Summary

 • Rooks kill militiamen to lure out Rone and adventurers fight back
 • Stormy's killed, but Rone resurrects her and slays Rooks
 • Rooks kidnap Leafi, then release her, and she says they only made threats
 • Prax reveals he set Leafi up to deliver a poison to Rysus, having had it presented it to her as a cure to his curse
 • Prax says the poison's side effect has made Rysus more erratic and violent
 • Most of the Landing turns on Prax for not revealing or clearing this plan with anyone beforehand, saying blood is on his hands

Detailed Summary

 • Rooks take to the rooftops holding a dozen bound and gagged militiamen as Rysus calls for Rone over the amunet. Though Mayor Lylia, Stormyrain, Shinann, and others call for the Rooks to release the soldiers, Rone doesn't show at first and the Rooks cut the throat of one militiaman.
 • Adventurers take to the roof of Moot Hall and other buildings and battle the Rooks, though some cut the other militiamen's throats and flee. In the bedlam, Rone eventually appears and kills a Rook, drawing excitement from Rysus. Rysus asks in thoughts what would make Rone mad, right before answering his own question as Stormy is killed off.
 • Stormy is brought to triage in the square, but Rone drags her off, then uses his gauntlets to heal and resurrect her. As others check on her well-being, a slew of Rooks swarm the area and attack all gathered. Casualties mount on both sides, but the Rooks' numbers grow until eventually Rone whirls into a blur and kills them all, then vanishes.
 • Shortly afterward, Rooks rush in and seize Leafiara, escaping with smoke bombs. Searches begin, but several minutes later she's found at Land's End Road, saying they only made threats.
 • Before anyone inquires further, Prax is heard over the amunet and soon joins Mayor Lylia and others to speak in the Raging Thrak Inn.
 • Prax affirms the claim from Stephos DeArchon that Rysus had been cursed by Naimorai when the Rooks attacked the Hendoran outpost the year before. Prax says Rysus had contacted the Silver Kings, a criminal group in the Empire, looking for a cure, but the contact hadn't been as private as Rysus wished. So Prax arranged to have a concotion delivered to Rysus via Leafiara, since he (Prax) had discovered that although she isn't one of the Rooks, they tended to listen before shooting in her presence.
 • Prax says that the concoction wasn't a cure, though it made Rysus feel alive for a while, and that he's been poisoned and will seek more. Leafi says she did suspect it might not be a cure and says that getting more of the solution was what the Rooks were just threatening her over. Prax justifies it as "the safest way to eradicate him, without murdering our own townspeople to get to him," but says that a side effect is his erratic, violent behavior--which Lylia notes was similar to Drangell. Prax says he hadn't thought to share this information before, but had to now so that everyone can prepare for what's to come.
 • Wolfloner and Stormyrain say this night was Prax's fault; Lylia says it was Raznel's; Prax says it was Rysus'. Wolfloner says Prax deserves death and Stormy asks if he's admitting to conspiring to use one citizen to poison another citizen--and that the side effects resulted in the death of militiamen. Prax tells Wolfloner he'd rather have the blood of Rysus than Cosima on his hands; Wolf says he's of the same cloth as Cosima. Prax tells Stormy that he'll see to monetary compensation of the militia members' families, to which she spits on the ground before him and leaves.
 • Hapenlok says the Landing had no problem taking Dennet Kestrel's blood money; Leafi says they did have a problem, but Dennet was clever enough to cover up what he did; Prax says not to confuse his transparency for not being clever. Hap nonetheless praises Prax for doing what previous town leaders couldn't do regarding Rysus.
 • As pressure continues from Lylia, Shinann, Evia, and many others in the crowd that Prax should have revealed this plan before enacting it, Prax says he can see some errors were made in retrospect.
 • Leafi says Prax is a target of Rysus and the Rooks now for revealing this so publicly, but Prax says the Rooks won't stand behind Rysus much longer, just as they'd turned on Drangell; Leafi asks how he knows that history even though he was away from the Landing, but he says he's never truly been away. [Assumed to be implying that he continues keeping an ear on the news, not that he never physically left.]
 • Prax says that history is shaped by those who do what must be done when others cannot, then says that he still hopes to cure Larsya and will be happy to return south afterward.
 • Archales, Shinann, and Lylia ask how long the poison will take and Prax says it could be months worst case, but he'd expect weeks, and Rysus' condition has escalated more quickly than he thought. Lylia asks if there's any way to stop him and Prax says he doesn't know.
 • Realk suggests using a second poison to hurry along Rysus' death, but Leafi says that's out since Prax is revealing everything in the trophy room, where the Rooks likely have eyes and ears.
 • Prax says he hopes he can count on everyone's help in the Bleaklands, for Larsya's sake if nothing else.

Militia Hostages - The Rooks' Rone Trap

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see an herbal remedy donation bin and some stone benches with some stuff on it.

Dark hooded figures move hurriedly across some nearby rooftops.

[Several adventurers begin to check some of the rooftops, but nobody reports finding anything. Eventually, however, everyone spots...]

In the distance, some dark hooded figures in silver beaked masks rise up on the edges of rooftops.

Upon the rooftops, each dark hooded figure leans down and pulls up a Wehnimer's Landing militiaman, bound and gagged and slightly squirming against the bonds, while others appear dazed. The moonlight gleans along the blades at their throats.

Madmountan says, "Well, alrighty then."

Lauranathalasa says, "That's not nice."

(Lylia raises her voice to be heard over the thunder so it carries to neighboring rooftops.)

Roelaren says, "Nooo."

Balley softly says, "Someone is not happy."

Leafiara yells, "What'cha doin' up there?"

Lylia commands, "Do it, and you forfeit your lives."

Evician asks, "Seriously?"

A muffled voice calls from a rooftop, "Rone oh Rone...where could you be..."

Shinann yells, "Release that guard safely."

Stormyrain stares upward.

Leaiara says, "Ah... bait."

Roelaren says, "Indeed."

Evician says, "Oh I see....crossfire."

Stormyrain loudly snarls, "I have no idea where Rone is, but I'm right here, why don't you come try that with me?"

Roelaren says, "Go Stormy get em."

Soon, every other dark hooded figure joins in, holding up a militiaman in uniform and bound in ropes and gags. Nearly a dozen uniformed militiamen stand tied up across various rooftops.

Balley softly says, "Since when do they need hostages."

Evia says, "Rone is busy in a pub rehearsing his new group, Rone and the Ronettes."

Hapenlok mutters, "So much for not fighting."

Roelaren says, "Oh come on don't do that."

Archales: "That is quite the sight."

Nazarr yells, "We don't HAVE Rone!"

Archales: "Someone should do something..."

Rysus: "Shall we make one bleed then Rone?"

Xorus says, "They seem to be of the opinion that the man in the mask has a soft spot for town militiamen."

Evia: "Someone should."

The voice of Cruxophim bemusedly inquires, "Cleaning house?"

Elphieya: "This isn't good at all."

Speaking in Elven, Roelaren says, "Ye are a bunch of cowards and low lifes."

Lylia loudly says, "Some of you have families. I know who they are."

Speaking to Xorus, Hapenlok says, "He seems to have killed enough of them in the recent past."

Evician says, "Evening Crux."

Balley softly asks, "Or finding partners?"

Hapenlok says, "Or maimed."

From behind the Moot Hall, Cruxophim's voice calmly greets, "Evening."

Leafiara: "Rysus, this is pretty far on the foolish side of your plans unless you have a real solution to Rone's gauntlets."

Roelaren yells, "Cowards, low lifes!"

Evia asks, "So...authorities, whatcha gonna do?"

With a quick slice, the throat of one militiamen is opened, and the dark hooded figure pushes him off the rooftop, a trail of blood falling his descent.

Shinann exclaims, "No!"

Evician yells, "COWARD!"

Beldannon yells, "Time to kill some Rooks!"

Roelaren says, "Nooooo."

Rysus: "One down! Eleven to go!"

Balley softly says, "Wow such cocky Rooks that have to look big and scary."

Archales asks, "What did you guys do to tick them off?"

Stormyrain: "This is what the so-called King of the Rooks does? Kills townsfolk?"

Evician says, "Nothing, they think we have Rone."

Zosopage says, "Rysus is proud of what he is doing."

Lylia says, "Ensured the town's prosperity. Made them less dependent on the Rooks."

Hapenlok mutters, "Looks like I'm doing some work for free."

Speaking to Evician, Leafiara muses, "No... they think this will draw Rone out, wherever he is."

Roelaren: "Ye are cowards and low lifes."

Balley softly says, "It sounds like a power trip."

Evician says, "Arrogance if nothing else."

Roelaren: "All of ye."

Stormyrain: "This is what you have come to? You kill the people you say you protect? These are who the Rooks are, Wehnimer's. Those of you who say they are necessary, you see what they are doing now. They are turning on you."

Lylia: "Rysus. Some of your people have families. I know who they are. You have used children as a shield. Do not think I am so much better than you in this regard. You hear me, Rooks? I see you, Jase. Your daughter is four, is she not?"

Speaking frankly to Archales, Leafiara says, "I don't think it'll work since it hasn't yet."

Balley softly says, "He is another coward."

Speaking to Leafiara, Archales says, "I'm a firm believer in persistence."

Beldannon softly says, "Cowards should come down and let me kill them."

Beldannon softly says, "Rysus is a punk always has been, maybe we should have killed him and let Drangell live."

Balley softly says, "Have to hide behind others."

Roelaren says, "They are cowards."

Beldannon softly says, "That is a jest of course."

The Symbol of Need begins to burn in your mind and an image appears before you of Zosopage...

[Moot Hall, Rooftop]

Dark slate runs across the roof of Moot Hall, providing solid footing and an impressive view of the town square below. To the west, the great oak tree in the center of town rises up, partially obscuring the western side of the bazaar. You also see a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that is lying down, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a wooden hatch and a wooden railing.

Also here: Hapenlok, Zosopage

Speaking to Archales, Leafiara says, "So am I, but if Rone actually -does- come out they're in serious trouble."

Beldannon softly says, "Drangell was much worse but still two birds of a feather."

Confrontations

[Several, having seen the Symbol, proceed to the rooftops and a battle begins.]

[Moot Hall, Rooftop] Dark slate runs across the roof of Moot Hall, providing solid footing and an impressive view of the town square below. To the west, the great oak tree in the center of town rises up, partially obscuring the western side of the bazaar. You also see a large pink pearl, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a wooden hatch and a wooden railing.

Also here: Great Lord Nazarr, Mayor Lylia, Stormyrain, Shinann, Chaoswynd, Zosopage who is immobilized

[The gathered adventurers kill the Rooks and continue searching other roofs.]

Hapenlok: "King Rook, don't think for a single second that I have forgotten about the unfinished business you and I have."

Cruxophim: "Maybe they just have a poor leader."

Shinann says, "We need one alive."

Stormyrain says, "Nothing else that I see."

Rysus: "The only unfinished business Hapenlok is your growth spurt!"

[And eventually more Rooks do begin advancing on the roofs...]

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure ambles in.

[...as do other hooded figures, and combat resumes.]

Nazarr says, "There are other rooftops."

Hapenlok: "Ha. Ha. Ha. I look forward to finishing the job tonight."

Zosopage says, "Hold I have one."

Lylia: "Those of you who love the town and not its self-appointed 'king' still have time to lay down their arms."

Leafiara reminds, "You just said you need one alive..." [context being that Shinann was attacking like the rest]

Zosopage says, "I had one frozen."

Shinann: "Rysus release my guards and take me."

Balley softly says, "They are cowards."

As adventures take to some rooftops to confront some Rooks, some nearby Rooks begin cutting the throats of other militiamen, tossing them off the rooftops and then fleeing.

Shinann: "They have done nothing to you."

Shinann: "Stop..."

Rysus: "Oh Rooooone...."

[Pursuits continue across town rooftops.]

Shinann: "We do not know where he is... take me. I will put my weapon up."

Hapenlok: "That'll only mean Shinann plus twelve."

[Eventually...]

[Tykel's Arms, Rooftop]

Citizens pass by below, moving among the multistoried wooden buildings and shops. A dark alleyway separates the weapon store from the local bathhouse nearby. You also see a grey-beaked dark hooded figure and a wooden railing.

Also here: Great Lord Nazarr, Grand Lady Roelaren, Zosopage

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure ambles in.

Leafiara says, "Hold."

[She binds the other one.]

Shinann: "They are on the rooftops."

Leafiara says, "There... we have 'em."

[The Rooks break out rather quickly, but Leafi repeatedly binds them.]

The ghostly voice of Nazarr says, "I don't think so."

Lauranathalasa asks, "We killing?"

Speaking calmly to Nazarr, Leafiara says, "We've got this."

Speaking to Lauranathalasa, Leafiara says, "No."

Lauranathalasa says, "Ok."

The ghostly voice of Nazarr says, "Immobilizing doesn't seem to be working."

A voice from the crowd echoes, "Murder! Murder! Someone call for the night watchman!"

Speaking thoughtfully to Chaoswynd, Leafiara says, "That one was your fault."

Speaking to Leafiara, Chaoswynd says, "Yes, it was."

[But battle against several more approaching Rooks continues.]

Speaking curiously to Stormyrain, Leafiara asks, "Any plans for arrest?"

Stormyrain appears to gain succour from the unnatural energy!

With a loud snap, a blast of energy bursts from Stormyrain's misty black sword-breaker!

... 35 points of damage!

Hard blow to chest breaking ribs!

Hard to breathe!

The dark hooded figure rolls over and dies.

Leafiara says, "Shinann did want one alive..." [as Stormy and Cay continue to attack]

Saranja: "Rysus, the Huntress pursues and punishes betrayers like you... and so do Her followers... this will not end soon, or well, for you."

Stormyrain growls, "She can take one then."

[And eventually Stormy, Cay, and Zosopage kill off all figures.]

Stormyrain kicks some dirt on a dead dark hooded figure.

Speaking to Gryzzlbok, Chaoswynd says, "Sorry about that."

[Battles proceed on other rooftops, but...]

A dark hooded figure rushes along a nearby rooftop and suddenly the air ripples around him. In a blur of motion, a white armored figure appears and with two black-bladed hatches, slices the hooded figure in half then vanishes.

Leafiara slowly says, "Well, here we go..."

Leafiara wryly says, "Rone."

Rysus: "He's come to play!"

Leafiara: "Well, your lure worked. But do you actually have a plan, Rysus? Because arrows through the head didn't do him in last time."

Archales: "It did work."

[Pursuits continue around town...]

Rysus: "Now what would make you the most mad little Rone..."

[Shortly after...]

Stormyrain just bit the dust!

[Wehnimer's Landing, Rooftop]

The tops of buildings stretch out across Wehnimer's Landing, dwarfed by the wooden palisade walls rising up to enclose the town. Below the edge, a network of cobblestone roads winds between closely-spaced shops. You also see a black handaxe, an angular fire wyrdling, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that appears dead, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that appears sympathetic, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that appears dead, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that appears dead and a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that appears sympathetic.

Also here: a sympathetic High Lady Lauranathalasa, Chaoswynd, the body of Stormyrain who is lying down, the body of Shinann who is lying down, Hapenlok

Shinann just bit the dust!

Rysus: "Maybe that?"

Roelaren: "Still cowards all of ye."

The Rone Resurrection

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see an herbal remedy donation bin and some stone benches with some stuff on it.

[Shinann and Stormyrain among others are brought back to the square for triage.]

Shinann asks, "Did someone say that Rone showed up?"

Speaking to Shinann, the ghostly voice of Stormyrain says, "He did."

Nazarr says, "He did."

Speaking softly to Shinann, Elphieya says, "Yes."

Hapenlok: "Oi, Queen Rysus? i think you missed a target. heh."

Rone just arrived.

Rone grabs Stormyrain's body and drags it west.

Hapenlok: "But you got one of the more annoying ones."

[A few people pursue and find...]

[Wehnimer's, West Ring Rd.]

The lane to the east leads into the heart of town and the main square. The back wall of the grocer's shop borders the road, its wide door surrounded by piles of rough gunny sacks and stacks of wooden crates, some empty, others still to be unpacked. You also see a tall mithril postern gate.

Also here: the body of Stormyrain who is lying down, Rone

Speaking wryly to Rone, Cruxophim offers, "Need a hand?"

The ghostly voice of Stormyrain says, "I'm fine."

Leafiara remarks, "The square's usually the best place for resurrections."

Rone points his gauntlet at Stormyrain and runes flash with a bright light. The air begins to swirl around Stormyrain and oddly, her wounds close up and she is healed and restored to life.

Laij: "Rone stole Stormy's body."

Stormyrain inclines her head.

Stormyrain dusts herself off.

Leafiara slowly says, "Or... that can happen, sure."

Speaking to Rone, Stormyrain says, "Thank you."

Cruxophim neutrally remarks, "Curious."

Speaking softly to Rone, Chaoswynd says, "A bit of warning would've been appreciated. In any case, you have my gratitude."

Nazarr says, "That's an ability worth having."

Stormyrain says, "I could use a few spells."

Leafiara wryly says, "If I knew that was all it took, I wouldn't have spent so much time in cleric schooling..."

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure just arrived!

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure ambles in.

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure just arrived!

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure ambles in.

Leafiara calls upon the local spirits and directs them through the area...

Leafiara gestures.

A sense of peace and calm settles over the area.

Shinann: "She is safe."

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure ambles in.

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure ambles in.

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure ambles in.

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure ambles in.

A grey-beaked dark hooded figure ambles in.

[But a sanctuary is to no avail as mass chaos and battle breaks out...]

You also see a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a smooth bone wand, a red spinel, a pale-faced coppery barn owl that is flying around, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that is lying down, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a tiny kitten, a lanky fire wyrdling, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that appears dead, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that is lying down, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that appears rather calm, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, an amber-eyed tawny range wolf, an angular fire wyrdling, the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, a vengeful mountain spirit that is flying around and a tall mithril postern gate.

Also here: Magister Raelee, a stunned Great Lord Evician who is lying down, Xorus, Dame Evia, Relic Hunter Madmountan, the body of Yoojin who is lying down, the body of Mayor Lylia who is lying down, the body of Lady Wintersylph who is lying down, High Lady Lauranathalasa, Chaoswynd, Shinann, Stormyrain who is lying down, Rone

[And the Rooks' numbers continue to overwhelm...]

You also see a thorny vine, a black handaxe, a smooth bone wand, a red spinel, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that is lying down, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a tiny kitten, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that appears dead, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure that is lying down, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, an amber-eyed tawny range wolf, an angular fire wyrdling, the palm frond-shaped Leafiara disk, a vengeful mountain spirit that is flying around and a tall mithril postern gate.

[Until at last...]

Rone spins around in a blur, appearing here, then there then everywhere around the area. The hooded figures drop dead.

Speaking to Rone, Lylia says, "You could have done that when it spared my life too, you know."

The ghostly voice of Yoojin asks, "How many did I kill??"

Madmountan says, "All of em."

Roblar disappointedly asks, "Dat it?"

Speaking to Rone, Leafiara ventures, "So I suppose your gauntlets don't have the same abilities as Malluch's to move around through the fog, do they?"

The air seems to bend and shimmer and Rone vanishes out of the corner of your eye.

Leafiara remarks, "I guess that does work too."

Lylia flatly says, "Well. So glad I was here to keep a lid on things."

Eoghain asks, "Who was that?"

Hapenlok says, "Interesting."

Speaking to Lylia, Hapenlok complains, "I'm supposed to get paid for this now."

Speaking ruefully to Hapenlok, Leafiara says, "Join the line. I'm still waiting on the bounty from the last Rone."

Kidnapping

Suddenly, dark hooded figures rush in and grab Leafiara! They throw down some mist-filled orbs and vanish as a cloud of smoke swirls out from where they stood.

Stormyrain: "Leafiara can you hear us?"

[Voln - Stormyrain] "Leafi, can you hear us?"

Stormyrain: "Anyone have eyes on Leafiara?"

[Voln - Leafiara] "I can."

[Voln - Stormyrain] "Are you ok?"

Roelaren: "Unseen force on her."

Stormyrain: "Thank you Roe."

Kashern: "So is the invasion that bad?"

Elphieya: "It's not good."

Hapenlok: "If by bad, you mean annoying?"

[After some minutes...]

Saranja: "This goes beyond annoying, Hap... tis time to put an end to the Rooks."

Some dark hooded figures appear near the North Gate, then rush off.

[Wehnimer's, Land's End Rd.]

Vigilant night guardsmen scrutinize the citizens and travelers arriving and departing through the wide gates spanning the land route into Wehnimer's Landing. The cluttered streets of the city to the south are a far cry from the deceptively calm expanse of the wilds of Elanith outside. Two daunting towers survey the countryside and protect the town, flanking the road to the east and west. You also see a large wooden barrel and the town gates.

Xorus glances at Leafiara.

Leafiara weakly greets, "H-hi..."

Evia says, "Hihi."

Lylia asks, "Are you well?"

Xorus says, "Well. That was interesting."

Leafiara stammers, "I am..."

Leafiara slowly assures, "Yes... I should be just fine."

Evia says, "She looks like she punched someone in the face."

Lylia asks, "What happened?"

[Voln - Stormyrain] "Is anyone with you Leafi?"

Leafiara explains, "Just a threat... they might have been trying to lure Rone again."

Praxopius: "Evening."

[Voln - Evia] "She is inside the North Gate"

[Voln - Leafiara] "Yes... I'm here at Land's End now..."

Evia: "Helloo."

Xorus: "Evening, Praxopius."

Bronwen gives Leafiara a playful bite.

Leafiara stares at Bronwen.

Zosopage: "Evening, Praxopius."

Lylia: "Evening."

Speaking distantly to Bronwen, Leafiara says, "Time and a place..."

Shinann says, "Praxopius."

Speaking concernedly to Chaoswynd, Leafiara asks, "Do I--do I look alright, I--hope?"

Speaking slowly to Leafiara, Chaoswynd says, "What happened."

Hapenlok: "Apparently, Saranja, people shirked from that task. Said they couldn't kill their own kin."

Hapenlok: "Since a great many of them were considered townborn."

Speaking to Chaoswynd, Leafiara says, "Just some threats... they might have been thinking Rone would come..."

Prax's Plot

As the rain seems to be slowing, Praxopius comes into view, wheeling himself through the gates.

Hapenlok: "So welcome to what my life used to be in this town."

Praxopius sighs.

Praxopius asks, "I've heard some militia were harmed by Rooks in another display?"

Evia says, "Yup."

Lylia coldly says, "Another display, and I hope to make it the last."

Nazarr says, "Their throats were cut and they were flung from rooftops afterward."

Lylia says, "They are free to speak. Managed dissent is one matter. But this is insupportable."

Bronwen says, "That seemed unfriendly."

Speaking quietly in Sylvankind to herself, Saranja hisses, "Vengeance!"

Praxopius says, "I do not wish to see unneeded harm come to others who protect our town."

Lylia says, "Join me if you wish."

Lylia says, "Nor do any of us. The Rooks overstep themselves."

Praxopius wheels in near Lylia.

Praxopius joins Lylia's group.

Praxopius asks, "Inside please?"

Lylia says, "Of course."

Bronwen asks, "Inside?"

[Mayor Lylia proceeds to the trophy room.]

[Raging Thrak, Trophy Room]

Tiny smudges of soot mar the fieldstones used to create the grand fireplace in this cozy room. A collection of plaques hangs above an immense grey marble mantel cluttered with trophy cups and bowls. Fashioned from a single stone slab, the hearth extends to an impressive black bear rug with its maw frozen in a silent roar. Several overstuffed wingback chairs, each covered in deep jewel-tone chintz, are scattered about the room. Against the back wall, a tall glass-front curio houses several ancient mementos and a thrak hide curtain hangs nearby.

Praxopius says, "I need to share some information."

Speaking slowly to Praxopius, Leafiara asks, "Are there... new developments with Larsya?"

Praxopius says, "Captains."

Praxopius says, "I think you would wish to be here as well."

Dergoatean: "Is Prax about somewhere?"

Praxopius: "Trophy Room."

Leafiara: "He is here in the trophy room..."

Stormyrain strainedly mutters, "I have families to notify and bodies to prepare."

Shinann asks, "I am sorry... what?"

Praxopius says, "I will be brief."

Praxopius says, "Rysus was cursed by Naimorai when the Brotherhood led an ill-advised and ill-fated strike against the Hendoran Outpost last year."

Leafiara agrees, "That is what Stephos had told us..."

Lauranathalasa says, "How convenient."

Hapenlok says, "Another one touched by her."

Praxopius says, "He recently resurfaced, full of life and mobility."

Lylia murmurs, "I wondered about that myself."

Praxopius says, "You see, he had made contact with a group known in the Empire as the Silver Kings."

Praxopius says, "Seeking a cure to what ailed him."

Pronia says, "Mmmm the Kings."

Nazarr says, "Who are the Silver Kings, please? I do not know that name."

Xorus says, "A criminal organization."

Praxopius says, "That contact had not been as private as he wished."

Leafiara wonders, "How would they be able to help? Even many of our best minds had trouble undoing the witch's curses in the past."

Speaking to Nazarr, Stormyrain murmurs, "The equivalent of the Rooks, in a way, in the Empire. But..more nefarious, and larger in size."

Praxopius says, "I am sorry Leafiara. But I arranged for a unique concoction to be delivered to Rysus, via you."

Praxopius says, "After awhile, I discovered while you are no member of the Brotherhood, they certainly listen before shooting in your presence."

Speaking in Sylvankind, the voice of Saranja harshly grates, "More treachery?"

Leafiara raises an eyebrow in Praxopius's direction.

Praxopius says, "It was no cure."

Realk exclaims, "It's a trap!"

Hapenlok murmurs, "I haven't met this man officially until tonight, but I already like him."

Praxopius says, "Oh, he felt alive, for awhile. I am certain."

Leafiara admits, "I'd thought not, actually... that it wasn't a cure..."

Praxopius says, "But he has been poisoned and is dying. And he will seek more."

Speaking softly to Praxopius, Elphieya asks, "Rysus is poisoned?"

Shinann says, "I hope he dies."

Madmountan says, "Oh, he's seekin' it alright."

Praxopius says, "He'll fade in time. Like a poisoned weed in a garden."

Shinann says, "I wish it."

Leafiara says, "That is exactly what he threatened me to find, yes... as I said."

Lylia notes, "He was already poisoned by Naimorai."

Praxopius says, "Honestly, the safest way to eradicate him, without murdering our own townspeople to get to him."

Speaking to Praxopius, Lylia says, "Tonight, he sounded as mad as Drangell at times, and Drangell was a scourge."

Praxopius says, "However, a regrettable side effect of his diminishment..."

Praxopius says, "Is his erratic, violent behavior."

Roelaren says, "He sure did a piece of work on us tonight."

Leafiara agrees, "Actually... that -is- a very close comparison..."

Nazarr says, "And his followers did as well."

Hapenlok says, "The most dangerous person is a man dying, looking to settle accounts before he goes."

Lylia says, "That explains a great deal."

Nazarr says, "He has nothing left to lose."

Praxopius says, "I had not thought to share this information previously, but given what happened tonight..."

Speaking darkly to Praxopius, Wolfloner asks, "So ultimately what occurred tonight is of your doing after all?"

Speaking slowly to Praxopius, Stormyrain inquires, "So you are responsible for this?"

Hapenlok says, "In charge of a band of rogues and cutthroats."

Praxopius says, "I felt it critical we all know what we're up against."

Pronia says, "Careful Praxopius."

Lylia says, "I believe, rather, it was ultimately Naimorai's doing. Or Raznel's, however you wish to see her."

Speaking harshly to Praxopius, Saranja grates, "He dies too slowly..."

Praxopius says, "No, ultimately, Rysus is responsible for this."

Speaking to Praxopius, Lauranathalasa says, "There could have been a better solution then what occurred tonight."

Speaking to Praxopius, Lylia agrees, "Yes, in a sense."

Praxopius asks, "Is there?"

Praxopius peers quizzically at Lauranathalasa.

Praxopius says, "I feel like we've seen many try."

Praxopius says, "Come and go, and try and fail."

Stormyrain slowly asks, "You're telling me that without the knowledge of the town's leadership or Mayor--you decided to use one of our citizens to poison another citizen, unlawful though he may be, and the side effects of that caused the death of my men?"

Speaking to Lauranathalasa, Lylia says, "People have sought Rysus' death for years now. Remember when Thadston led them to the Rooks' nests? All those children dead..."

Praxopius says, "Rysus will be gone in time. We will need to be prepared for the erratic behavior in the meantime, and the vaccuum of power in the end."

Speaking darkly to Praxopius, Wolfloner says, "You shirk your own responsibility in this matter. As so many of your imperial kin do. Blood is on your hands tonight you jackal."

Praxopius says, "I leave that to those more skilled in such."

Speaking loudly to Praxopius, Stormyrain repeats, "You're telling me that without the knowledge of the town's leadership or Mayor--you decided to use one of our citizens to poison another citizen, unlawful though he may be, and the side effects of that caused the death of my men?"

Speaking darkly to Praxopius, Wolfloner says, "You deserve to die."

Roelaren says, "It appears so."

Pronia says, "Again, careful Praxopius."

Speaking to Wolfloner, Kildar says, "Off with his head."

Lylia snaps, "Do not threaten people in front of my very nose."

Speaking darkly to Praxopius, Wolfloner says, "All that blood tonight is on your hands."

Praxopius says, "Surely Wolfloner, you would be the first to understand that specific missions call for specific difficult tasks."

Stormyrain evenly says, "I'm waiting to hear the answer to my question, Sir."

Praxopius says, "I'll gladly wash the blood of Rysus off my hands over Cosima's."

Praxopius nods at Wolfloner.

Speaking to Praxopius, Leafiara inquires, "Was it the Rooks who attacked you those many weeks ago when we found you lying in the streets, as some thought?"

Praxopius says, "I do not know."

Praxopius looks over at Leafiara and shakes his head.

Speaking incredulously to Chaoswynd, Stormyrain asks, "Am I not speaking?"

Praxopius says, "It is understandable for you to be angry."

Praxopius nods at Stormyrain.

Speaking darkly to Praxopius, Wolfloner says, "Cosima and you are of the same cloth."

Pronia says, "State your resolution, Praxopius."

Speaking incredulously to Shinann, Stormyrain asks, "Are my words garbled?"

Speaking slowly to Stormyrain, Chaoswynd says, "No, you certainly are. And quite clearly."

Speaking coldly to Praxopius, Lylia says, "Poisoning is more a Nalfein specialty, but I do not object to it when it removes an imminent threat. But this... I should have been made aware. And this erratic behavior you mention to me now, it has cost the deaths of many."

Nazarr says, "And is likely to cost even more."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Hapenlok says, "Perhaps if we had settled accounts ourselves when the oppurtunity presented itself, and it did, numerous times, it wouldn't have had to come to this."

Praxopius says, "A regrettable event."

Speaking softly to Stormyrain, Elphieya says, "You are clearly speaking. He simply does not wish to answer your question and is choosing to hide behind his ramblings."

Xorus says, "There is no law here so far as I am aware regulating the distribution of narcotics and potions."

Lylia hollowly echoes, "Regrettable."

Praxopius says, "I heard your question."

Xorus says, "Shantytown would become violent with withdrawal if it had poppy."

Praxopius nods at Stormyrain.

Lylia says, "I knew those guards. I knew some of those Rooks, too."

Realk says, "Heard or listened, there is a difference."

Praxopius says, "Such is why I've mentioned what I have tonight."

Praxopius says, "So we can prepare and prevent other situations from occurring."

Speaking coldly to Lylia, Saranja says, "Surely there is no need for a trial of this man... we all heard him."

Nazarr says, "I heard a free and open confession before many witnesses."

Lauranathalasa says, "How can we prepare if you don't share your knowledge until after the fact."

Praxopius says, "Now you can prepare."

Praxopius says, "For what is to come."

Speaking to Praxopius, Stormyrain snarls, "That will not bring my men back. They were husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers. How dare you come here and make these decisions without the blessing of our leaders."

Speaking darkly to Lylia, Wolfloner says, "Time to arrest that jackal."

Praxopius says, "I will see the families of the militia members receive monetary compensation, which I know is nothing in comparison to their loss."

(Stormyrain spits on the ground in front of Praxopius' chair.)

Elphieya softly asks, "What good is a warning after the blood has been spilled?"

Stormyrain raises her voice in rhythmic song, commanding the aid of the elements.

Stormyrain skillfully begins to weave another verse into her harmony.

Stormyrain sings a song of revelry, reminding you of days long gone. Lost in the song for a moment, your vision blurs slightly and you think you see Stormyrain raise her arm in a toast. You blink to clear your head and find that Stormyrain has vanished!

Archales says, "This crowd is turning..."

Speaking to Praxopius, Shinann exclaims, "Silvers!"

Evia says, "I am very upset."

Lylia coldly says, "Silver is cold comfort."

Praxopius says, "It is only logical for such emotional reactions to occur."

Hapenlok says, "We've had no problem taking blood money from Dennet."

Leafiara wryly says, "Dennet tried it too, you know--"

Leafiara nods absently at Hapenlok.

Realk says, "Right, let's all go make some hot dinner, and eat our losses away."

Speaking darkly to Praxopius, Wolfloner says, "You now have a price on your head. Hopefully the night will not pass without your own throat being cut."

Hapenlok says, "Interesting how the tides turn."

Speaking flatly to Hapenlok, Leafiara say, "Well, no, we didn't really like it then either. He was just clever enough to cover up what he did..."

Pietra quietly asks, "Isn't this Rysus someone you all want to be rid of?"

Praxopius nods at Pietra.

Pietra glances down.

Pietra merrily asks, "So what's the big issue here?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Hapenlok says, "I commend you for making the choice that our leaders couldn't make in the past."

Praxopius says, "Don't confuse my transparency for not being clever."

Praxopius nods to Leafiara.

Leafiara takes a moment to observe Praxopius.

Leafiara says, "Oh, he liked that word too..."

Leafiara nods.

Realk says, "And your pride in the cleverness is what makes you untrusted."

Speaking to Pietra, Lylia says, "If you cut down an unwanted tree, and it tears down homes as it falls, perhaps you should have been more careful in removing it."

Speaking to Pietra, Lylia says, "This is the problem."

Praxopius says, "You can trust me in this."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Lylia asks, "Do you think I have done too little against Rysus, then?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Roelaren says, "Informing the leaders of the town would have been a wise thing to do, at least so they could be more prepared with what would happen due to it."

Nazarr coldly says, "You have just demonstrated that we cannot trust you at all."

Shinann asks, "Trust an Imperial... where have I heard that?"

Pietra says, "But if the tree feller is skilled, the tree will fall amidst the others..."

Dergoatean says, "Trust is a funny word after all we've been through."

Speaking to Lylia, Hapenlok says, "I'm talking more distant past than you."

Speaking quietly to Praxopius, Saranja says, "Logic demands your blood for our brothers' blood... do not fall back on logic."

Lylia pointedly says, "Yes. Informing the leadership would have been wise."

Speaking softly to Shinann, Wintersylph says, "From an Imperial."

Speaking darkly to Lylia, Wolfloner says, "He is a pawn of the imperials. Do not waste your breath on him."

Praxopius says, "In retrospect, I see where some errors were made."

Speaking to Lylia, Hapenlok says, "It's like I've told Pup, if we don't see to our affairs, others will see to it for us."

Pronia says, "Logic is a weak man's harbor."

Praxopius says, "But I also had the choice not to say anything."

Praxopius says, "I am no Dennet."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Lylia says, "I am not Puptilian."

Giantphang says, "Hello mister everybody."

Nazarr says, "Logic is a fine weapon. What he is using is not logic but rationalization."

Speaking frankly to Praxopius, Leafiara confides, "I don't have anything against you even though I'm a prime target now, but--"

Pietra says, "And I'm not anyone either."

Speaking quietly to Praxopius, Saranja says, "Sad praise indeed."

Speaking to Lylia, Hapenlok says, "This is an object lesson for all. clean up your messes."

Speaking pointedly to Praxopius, Leafiara says, "You're a prime target now too, of Rysus and the Rooks. You're telling us all this openly in the trophy room."

Praxopius says, "The Brotherhood will not support him for long."

Leafiara says, "There's no doubt they have eyes and ears here."

Praxopius says, "It is why they turned on Drangell originally."

Speaking icily to Hapenlok, Lylia says, "I could say the same to you. Do not make me bring up what you do not wish to think about yourself."

Shinann says, "This does not bring back my soldiers."

Roelaren says, "None of us are safe where the Rooks are concerned,"

Speaking curiously to Praxopius, Leafiara asks, "And how do you know all of this--when you were away for decades?"

Shinann says, "None of it."

Speaking to Lylia, Hapenlok says, "Oh, I plan on seeing to that matter, soon enough."

Leafiara says, "About Cosima or Drangell..."

Praxopius says, "One is never truly away, away."

Praxopius says, "Wehnimer's Landing is my home."

Lauranathalasa says, "Sure doesn't feel like it."

Evia says, "One cannot be responsible for essentially the murder of half a dozen or so people and just wave it away with some sort of screwball logic, no matter the intention."

Speaking darkly to Praxopius, Wolfloner says, "Not for long."

Hapenlok casts a warning glance at Wolfloner.

Hapenlok chants a short phrase, embers leaping from his fingertips, as he clenches his hand into a smoke-shrouded fist.

Praxopius says, "History never recounts those who guarded the status quo."

Speaking darkly to Hapenlok, Wolfloner says, "Back down."

Speaking to Wolfloner, Hapenlok challenges, "You first."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Shinann says, "No..."

Praxopius says, "History is shaped by those who do what must be done when others cannot."

Speaking agreeably to Praxopius, Leafiara concedes, "I'll give you that one."

Lauranathalasa asks, "Don't dictators say that?"

Speaking quietly to Praxopius, Saranja asks, "And you bring blood home? And JUSTIFY it?"

Nazarr nods at Lauranathalasa.

Nazarr says, "All the time."

Zosopage says, "Sometimes keeping the status quo is what must be done."

Realk says, "So by that note.. you won't be written in history because you waited till AFTER to try to do the right thing."

Speaking to Wolfloner, Hapenlok murmurs, "I need him alive. And undamaged."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Lauranathalasa asks, "He owe ye money or something?"

Speaking darkly to Hapenlok, Wolfloner says, "You are going to be disappointed."

Praxopius says, "I understand your feelings, and I regret what happened tonight."

Speaking to Praxopius, Archales asks, "How long will this poisoning take to do its work?"

Speaking softly to Praxopius, Elphieya says, "Regret does not bring back those who were lost."

Madmountan says, "Kinda like how me killing a bunch of little kids is why the Bleaklands is Talador instead of the Emperor's backyard. Things are hard to deal with sometimes."

Praxopius says, "Soon it is my hope we have a cure for Larsya, then onto better things, and I will gladly return south."

Speaking to Pronia, Zosopage says, "I'm speaking in general and not to any particular point."

Speaking to Praxopius, Leafiara says, "No one can foresee every outcome. I don't hold it against you, though others do."

Lauranathalasa cheerfully says, "I miss the pirate lady."

Praxopius shrugs at Archales.

Praxopius says, "His behavior has escalated more quickly than I predicted."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Elphieya says, "It is not that he could see every outcome. It is the withholding of information until too late that is what I object to."

Praxopius says, "Perhaps an overlooked possibility due to his original curse from Raznel."

Speaking to Praxopius, Lylia says, "Is there a way to put a quick end to him? We must deal with facts as they are, and it does no good to weep over the past."

Speaking to Praxopius, Shinann says, "You talk as if this were another experiment."

Realk says, "That's partially the problem, you can't predict how everything is going to play out all the time, full disclousre from the start is better for all parties."

Nazarr says, "You should not have your liberty at all. You should be thrown in prison for facilitation of murder. You did not know this would happen. But you knew of the possibility."

Speaking stiffly to Lylia, Saranja says, "I must leave before I hurt our... guest. Excuse me."

Speaking to Saranja, Lylia says, "I appreciate your forbearance."

Speaking to Praxopius, Shinann asks, "Were you looking for a way to cure yourself and used someone else to test it on?"

Saranja just went east.

Lylia coldly says, "I might be inclined to do the same, if we did not need to know more."

Praxopius says, "No."

Volwulf says, "Tis a very volatile situation... naturally emotions are running high."

Hapenlok says, "And the ironic part of this situation? I'm the least emotional one here."

Praxopius says, "I believe I shall turn in for the evening."

Hapenlok cheerfully says, "Drink up, the world's about to end."

Praxopius says, "I certainly hope your aid can be counted on for our trip to the Bleaklands."

Evia exclaims, "I would just like to know where is the justice for the dead of this night!"

(Lylia puts a hand on Praxopius's wheeled chair.)

Praxopius says, "If not for me, but for Larsya."

Lylia says, "A moment, if you please."

Nazarr coldly says, "May you dream of all those who died tonight because of you."

Madmountan says, "Always up for the Bleaklands."

Pronia says, "Hah. You all spit and snarl. Prax beguiles. Pitiful."

Lylia asks, "You did not answer my question. Is there a way to stop him now that he has become erratic?"

Speaking to Praxopius, Dergoatean says, "Certainly. Unless we come up with some brilliant plan of our own and decide to execute it without informing you."

Speaking to Praxopius, Lylia says, "You have gotten us here. I need information."

Praxopius says, "I will dream of the future lives spared and the children who will not fall into the ranks of the Brotherhood of Rooks."

Praxopius says, "I will weep for those lost, but I hold hope for those unseen we have saved."

Speaking softly to Hapenlok, Wintersylph says, "Only a moment ago you were ready to meteor Wolfloner, that sounds pretty emotional."

Nazarr says, "The Rooks are very much alive, with or without Rysus. If he dies, they can find another leader."

Leafiara says, "We haven't saved any... yet."

Praxopius says, "I do not know of a way currently, to stop him."

Speaking to Praxopius, Roelaren says, "Come up with a plan instead to aid us in what is coming our way."

Praxopius says, "We must let it run its course."

Speaking to Kildar, Lauranathalasa says, "You missed it."

Leafiara absently says, "Work to be done..."

Speaking to Wintersylph, Hapenlok says, "No, no, no, silly. You can't conjure meteors indoors."

Lylia flatly says, "Wonderful. You have given me another Drangell."

Lylia glares at Praxopius.

Praxopius says, "I am."

Praxopius nods at Roelaren.

Speaking to Praxopius, Hapenlok says, "A pleasure to finally meet you in person, by the way."

Speaking softly to Hapenlok, Wintersylph says, "Good point."

Praxopius says, "The imperial ships."

Praxopius nods at Roelaren.

Praxopius nods at Hapenlok.

Praxopius asks, "You wished a word?"

Praxopius peers quizzically at Lylia.

Shinann says, "She asked you how soon we will be rid of Rysus."

Praxopius nods.

Shinann asks, "Right?"

Lylia says, "I have gotten what I wished. I asked if there was a way to end this. You answered. I shall seek my own ways, if you have none to offer."

Speaking softly to Shinann, Elphieya says, "And the answer is not soon enough."

Praxopius says, "It could be weeks, or still months."

Evia says, "If our intentions are really nice, looks like we can do as we like and the law will turn a blind eye."

Lylia nods at Shinann.

Elphieya softly exclaims, "Months?!"

Praxopius says, "Worst case."

Praxopius says, "Given his recent turn, I suspect not."

Roelaren asks, "Months more of this?"

Hapenlok mutters, "It's the Landing. Always assume worse case."

Praxopius says, "I would predict weeks."

Giantphang exclaims, "The law!"

Giantphang rubs his constable badge.

Realk says, "Surely there is another poison that could work with it to facilitate it slightly faster."

Giantphang exclaims, "Not gots blind eye right now, miss phieya fixed it!"

Nazarr says, "Your knowledge appears to be somewhat limited. You also did not predict that he would be this strongly affected so quickly."

Roelaren says, "He will be on a rampage now knowing what was done to him."

Shinann says, "No cure... right? I do not want him to have a cure."

Lauranathalasa says, "Surely if ye made Giantphang the constable, I should be the town's treasurer."

Speaking to Praxopius, Xorus says, "I do not care about any of this, Rysus was a dead man unwalking. I will see you in the Bleaklands for greater things."

Speaking to Roelaren, Hapenlok says, "Like wellington."

Praxopius nods at Xorus.

Praxopius says, "Excellent."

Speaking softly to Shinann, Wintersylph says, "Says the healer."

Praxopius says, "I will keep you posted on when we intend to travel to the Bleaklands."

Praxopius says, "Goodnight."

Shinann says, "Yes, says the healer."

Dergoatean says, "Good night."

Speaking thoughtfully to Praxopius, Leafiara says, "If you had picked a more private location to reveal all of this, there would probably have been some potential to give him a fake cure as poison, but... that's out of the cards now."

Lylia tersely says, "Yes. As much as you disgust me at this moment, I know there is other work to do."

Speaking musingly to himself, Archales asks, "So... I guess letting him die all on his own, alone, is off the table?"

Lauranathalasa exclaims, "I hope so!"

Shinann says, "I have families to see."

Speaking to Archales, Lylia says, "If the Rooks abandon him, he will do just that."

Speaking to Praxopius, Hapenlok says, "In the future, I hope we can speak more."

Nazarr says, "If."

Roelaren says, "Nothing wrong with what a healer has to say."

Giantphang exclaims, "Mine is shiny!"

Giantphang taps a fake tin constable badge that he is wearing.

Praxopius nods at Hapenlok.

Leafiara distantly says, "There's no doubt they already know..."

Praxopius wheels away.
