Minor Elemental Edge is a spell that imparts a temporary bonus equivalent to a +15 (3x) enchant to plain (non-magical, non-blessed, non-flaring, non-weighted) weapons, including runestaves and unarmed combat hand and foot gear. The duration is 20 + (3 × Wizard Base ranks) of the caster, and each swing reduces the remaining number of swings by 1 even when the attack misses the target. An "edged" weapon is usable by characters of any level or profession as normal level/enchant bonus restrictions do not apply. The +15 bonus applies to both attack (AS) and defensive strength (DS).
War mages of any level gain an additional benefit from the spell when it is EVOKEd with a weapon in hand. Evoking will add an enhancive effect to any weapon (i.e., they can be enhancive, weighted, enchanted, flaring, etc.), adding +10 to skill bonus, as determined by the weapon (e.g. a dagger will grant +10 to Edged Weapons skill bonus). Training in Elemental Lore, Earth will increase the enchant bonus. This effect is self-evoke only; others will not receive the bonus if the weapon is passed to them, and only wizards may evoke Minor Elemental Edge, even when invoked from a scroll. A couple of notes on the enhancive benefit:
- If 1x trained in Thrown Weapons, the spell will always grant Thrown Weapons skill regardless of the weapon held when evoking (unless it is UCS gloves/boots).
- While the bonus can be applied to UCS gloves and boots and brawling weapons, only one will apply; the effect does not stack. Similarly, two-weapon combat mages can only gain the enhancive boost from one of their weapons at a time. The appropriate UCS equipment must be edged for the appropriate attack type. Thus, when using KICK, boots must be Minor Edged to get the bonus and vice versa for gloves for the other UCS attack types (JAB, PUNCH, GRAPPLE, and SMITE).
The regular and evoke versions do not stack.
