Bolt spell customizations, also called custom bolt messaging, are a type of advanced spell customization that changes the attack messaging on a bolt spell as it is being cast to attack a target. Pre-written custom bolt spell customizations are available at various festivals, pay events, and at Bayview Villa on Mist Harbor. Fully custom bolt spell messaging is delayed service when the player is writing their own. Bolt spell customizations are typically part of the Player Customization System and is managed via the CUSTOM verb.

In the case of Fire Spirit (111), only the attack line is customized as part of a bolt spell customization. The fireworks can be changed via the Custom Fire Spirit service.

Cone of Elements (518) casts the applicable individual bolt spells at each target, so if a wizard customizes Minor Fire (906), then casts Cone of Elements with Minor Fire, it will use the custom Minor Fire messaging. Major Air Bolt doesn't exist as an individual spell, but it can still be customized for when it is cast via Cone of Elements. Cone of Elements by itself can also have its own bolt spell customization.

Bolt spell customization consists of two parts:

  • The verb (e.g. hurl, toss, throw, fling, breathe, exhale, direct)
  • The object that is cast or thrown at the target

Examples of bolt spell customizations include the following from options available at Rumor Woods:

Fire Spirit (111): Character flicks her wrist, spinning a glinting cog licked by coppery flames at a giant rat!
Web (118): Character gestures and launches a sparkling network of incarnadine webbing at a giant rat!
Holy Bolt (306): Character awkwardly propels a stream of intensely noxious swamp water at a giant rat!
Hurl Boulder (510): Character stomps her foot on the ground, directing a jagged chunk of granite at a giant rat!
Cone of Elements (518): Character spins in place, throwing a wave of raw mana outward at a giant rat!
Disintegrate (705): Character weaves scattered tendrils of black mist at a giant rat!
Balefire (713): Character launches a flame-haloed orb of void black plasma at a giant rat!
Minor Water (903): Character staggers, hiccups, then flings a spray of rum-infused dirty water at a giant rat!
Major Cold (907): Character rapidly flicks assorted shards of mirrorlike ice at a giant rat!
Empathic Assault (1110): Character sketches a quick rune in the air, sending myriad plasma moonspikes at a giant rat!
Telekinesis (1206): Character agilely slings a barrage of elegant teapots at a giant rat!
Arcane Blast (1700): Character expertly focuses beams of white-hot arcane energy at a giant rat!
Major Acid (1710): Character lets loose a conical spray of sizzling citrine acid at a giant rat!

Additional examples of pre-written messaging can be viewed in the character customizations category, such as with the Rumor Woods 2024 bolt spell customizations.
