Revision as of 23:06, 8 June 2015

Blink weapons were sold at the Ebon Gate 2009 auction.

Items

  • a mithglin mace
  • a mithglin handaxe
  • a mithglin battle axe

Description

  • Not infused: A tiny golden eyelid, which is open, is inlaid into the bottom of the pommel.
  • Infused: A tiny golden eyelid, which is open, is inlaid into the bottom of the pommel, and a faint blue flicker dances around the weapon.

A willing merchant should be able to add Base description, Long description, or Show description alterations to these weapons.

Properties

  • 5x (The original auction releases were 5x mithglin. As of RtCF 2013, there exists the possibility of the Blink ability being added to weapons that do not match the original release qualities).
  • Teleportation: By poking the weapon, the eye set into the pommel will blink, sending the wielder into an adjacent room. This ability can be used six times a day. Touching the weapon 24 hours after the final charge is expended resets the charges.
  • Blessable: Because the infusion flares are script-based, the blink weapons are able to be blessed.
  • Bonding: A recent update has enabled Sanctify (1625) to be used by a Paladin to bond with a blink weapon. Because the weapon's infusion flares are script based, a Paladin bonded with a blink weapon will gain Consecrate (1604) flares.
  • Enchant/Ensorcell: 2013 updates have enabled these spells to be usable with Blink weapons. 405 is also usable to determine the enchant/ensorcell status of said weapons.
  • Spell infusion: The weapon can be infused with an offensive spell that the wielder is capable of learning without the benefit of spell knowledge enhancements. The infusion of one spell will last until another spell is cast at the weapon and is accomplished by casting the spell at the weapon. High level spells may take multiple attempts before the infusion succeeds. Flares draw no mana from the wielder. Note that the weapon will not flare unless the wielder is capable of learning the infused spell without the benefit of spell knowledge enhancements. (So a sorcerer can infuse Mana Disruption (702) in a weapon, but if a Paladin wields it, it will not flare)

Subject: Blink Weapon Updates

So, you see a blink weapon:

>glance You glance down to see a falchion in your right hand and nothing in your left hand. >l my falc A tiny golden eyelid, which is open, is inlaid into the weapon. You see nothing else unusual.

Then, you see a potion and a blink weapon:

>glance You glance down to see a falchion in your right hand and a potion in your left hand.

The following happens:

>pour my potion on my falchion You pour your potion on the falchion. As the liquid coats the surface of the falchion, a misty aura fills the air surrounding it, dancing around your fingers as you gesture over it with a soft incantation spilling from your lips. Small runic symbols flare to life at various points along the surface of the falchion, their blurry edges wavering in response to the cadence of your voice and the liquid in these areas absorbing quickly beneath the surface. When the last of the liquid has vanished, the symbols dissipate and the falchion appears faded. You scrutinize the falchion, notice nothing amiss, and conclude that the tempering seems to have been successful. You estimate that the falchion should be ready to enchant 20 to 21 hours.

>prep 405 You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Elemental Detection spell... Your spell is ready. >cast my falchion You gesture at a falchion. The layers of essence permeating the falchion unfold before you to reveal the familiar patterns of a tempering enchanting project, which you recognize as one of your own. It is currently tempering and on the final step of the enchanting process. You notice no aura indicating enchantment.

>prep 925 You trace a series of glowing runes while chanting the phrase for Enchant Item... Your spell is ready. >cast my falchion You gesture at a falchion. Visible wisps of essence dance across the surface of the falchion as you chant quietly, your sure gestures guiding them to slowly coalesce into a pair of small softly glowing runic symbols. The two lone runes flicker momentarily, the intensity of their glow increasing as their form sharpens into crisp, clean edges. Suddenly, the symbols erupt in a cascade of tiny prismatic motes of light, encompassing the falchion to form a shimmering layer over its surface. Slowly, the radiant shell sinks into the falchion, leaving behind a faint, fading aura.

>prep 405 You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Elemental Detection spell... Your spell is ready. >cast my falc You gesture at a falchion. The underlying patterns of essence within the falchion indicate that it has been enchanted, and you notice your own enchanter's mark on it. You recognize the vibrant red aura surrounding it as indicating a weak level of enchantment.

Not to leave another group of people out...

>inc 735 You begin drawing a faint, twisting symbol while softly intoning the words for Ensorcell... Your spell is ready. You gesture. You sense the build up of necrotic energy within you has reached the point necessary to permanently ensorcell an item for the first time.

>prep 735 You begin drawing a faint, twisting symbol while softly intoning the words for Ensorcell... Your spell is ready. >channel my falc You channel at a falchion. You sense that the falchion has not yet been permanently ensorcelled and that you can only fail if you are horribly unlucky.

[If you would like to proceed with this ensorcellment attempt, re-channel the spell at the falchion within the next 30 seconds.]

>prep 735 You begin drawing a faint, twisting symbol while softly intoning the words for Ensorcell... Your spell is ready. >channel my falc You channel at a falchion. Having probed the falchion already, you begin to channel your stored necrotic energy at it. You carefully regulate the flow of energy in order to attempt to overcome its natural resistance while not simultaneously overwhelming yourself...

You make an excellent attempt!

Success! You manage to breach the falchion's defenses and pour in enough of your stored necrotic energy to permanently fuse it to the falchion's very structure.

>l my falc A tiny golden eyelid, which is open, is inlaid into the weapon. A strange necrotic haze radiates from the falchion.

>prep 405 You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Elemental Detection spell... Your spell is ready. >cast my falc You gesture at a falchion. You sense that the falchion has 1 layer of permanent necrotic energy upon it.

Cliff's Notes: Wizards will be able to Enchant blink weapons, and Sorcerers will be able to Ensorcell them. Elemental Detection will be usable on blink weapons.

Cliff's Notes Footnotes: I was going to wait until RtCF to release these updates... but they're already live (like, now). Thanks to GM Modrian for a quick QC on them, and SGM Mestys and company for a quick reply on some other questions that I had.

Enjoy.
