House of Nalfein

The House of Nalfein is one of the seven original elven noble houses, founded by Zishra Nalfein in the 1440th year of the Elven Calendar (about 52,700 years before present day). Their seat of power is the City-State of Ta'Nalfein in eastern Elanith. The crest of the House of Nalfein is an onyx rose on a field of jade, the royal jewel is a black pearl, and their heraldic statement is "Elegance and discretion are the essence of civilization."
Culture
"The line of Zishra Nalfein founded Ta'Nalfein, which has always been a center of Elven politics. The Nalfein are fairly adept at everything, but they have always been the masters of stealth, whether in the field or the council chambers. Their politics are particularly ruthless, as they let little stand between themselves and their desires. The Nalfein are also apt to take up the life of a wandering merchant, traveling the world to trade in both goods and information."

The name Nalfein is commonly believed to come from the same root as naefira, the elven word for rose, and the Nalfein elves often use variations of roses as their symbols.
The Nalfein elves pride themselves on worldly knowledge. They are prolific traders in both merchant goods and information, and among all the elven houses they see the most practical value in learning about other cultures. They are also great appreciators of aesthetic beauty in both nature and crafts. Ta'Nalfein is renowned for its terraced gardens, rose wines, and artisanal glasses.
Due to their political connections and ruthless methods, the Nalfein have been accused of manipulating many historical events to their advantage. Most infamously, the Nalfein were suspected of precipitating a war between the Houses of Faendryl and Ashrim that resulted in the destruction of the Ashrim Isles. The human-led Turamzzyrian Empire has fought two major wars against them in the past.
The House of Nalfein is currently ruled by King Gaendel and Queen Rhosyn. They have at least one child, Leisette.
Verbs
FANSPEAK is a covert means of communication via movement and placement of a held fan, often used by Nalfein elves in foreign lands to send messages to each other without others understanding or even noticing the signals.
