Mass Blur (911)

|
Mass Blur is a utility spell that increases defense by causing one's form to blur. The nature of this spell is such that if a wizard targets oneself with the spell and is leading a group, then all the members of the wizard's group get the benefits of the spell.
This is one of three spells, collectively and colloquially known as "massies", which provide a defensive bonus, affect all members of the caster's group, and remain persistent after the group is disbanded. As such, it is quite common for groups to form in public places specifically for the purpose of casting these spells. The other two such spells are Mass Elemental Defense (419) and Mass Colors (611).
Factors Affecting Mass Blur
- Training in Wizard Base spells increases the duration of this spell.
For each rank of Wizard Base spells known, the duration of the spell is extended by 30 seconds from its base 900 second duration.
If cast from a scroll the duration is the 900 second base time plus 30 seconds for each two ranks of Arcane Symbols.
If cast from a magic item the duration is calculated as found here.
Spell Usage
- CAST or INCANT while leading a group to protect each member of the group.
- Self-cast only.
- Stackable.
This spell provides the defense equivalent of 20 ranks of the Dodging skill, and its benefits last the full duration of the spell regardless of whether the group stays intact after casting.
