Should Tephra's race be "Gargoyle family creatures" (which currently is an actual page that has "stone gargoyle" and "lesser stone gargoyle" on it) or a different race entirely? I could make a page for "Gargoyle" and make a list of notable gargoyles (the Windfellow's Retreat gargoyles) with a mention of the huntable stone gargoyles. - This is a good question and a tricky situation. There are other NPCs that have their race pointing at creature pages or creature categories right now such as Aahlara (blood eagle), all the krolvin link to Krolvin, Mirayam (Golem family creatures), Stiletto (Goblin), Thrayzar (Orc family creatures), and Tseleth (Lich). Using what seems to be general convention, then, it would make sense to make a redirect page from Gargoyle to Category:Gargoyle family creatures and use Gargoyle as the race in all the Windfellow's Retreat NPC boxes.
- You would not need to expand on the Gargoyle page, but instead just redirect it to Gargoyle family creatures. There is already a Windfellow's Retreat NPCs page which could be linked under Resources on each related NPC storyline page. However, by adding Windfellow's Retreat as the storyline, all of the gargoyles would already be gathered in Category:Windfellow's Retreat which means that the separate NPC page is superfluous, unnecessary, and could be deleted. The list of gargoyles should, in my opinion, be placed in the informative text in the Windfellow's Retreat Category under a level two or three heading for Non-Player Characters. Additional information could be added to the Category:Gargoyle family creatures page about gargoyles and link back to Category:Windfellow's Retreat with information on how there were gargoyle NPCs. Instead of creating more and more distinct and isolated pages, it makes sense to me to instead flesh out existing pages with deeper, concise information and create rich internal linkbacks that guide people to the information they need.
- I'm going to take this situation back to my supervisor and ask for clarification. Therefore, this information on how to list non-playable races may be changed in the future. However, this is what would be consistent with what already exists. MOD-GSMOTTE (talk) 09:21, 18 April 2021 (CDT)
- So to make sure I understand...
- 1) Take the info on the NPC page and put it on the Windfellow's Retreat category page.
- 2) Add information to the gargoyle family creatures page, linking back to Windfellow's.
- 3) Ultimately, make a page for each NPC gargoyle (and then remove them from the Windfellow's Retreat category page).
- Right? WINTERDAWN (talk) 22:26, 18 April 2021 (CDT)
- It looks like you got started already. I would not copy information in the format it was in from the NPC page to the Windfellow's Retreat category page. That would not make sense for a category page (nor does it make sense for an NPC page). That's more of an info dump page. I would create a page for each NPC gargoyle and then create a list of the gargoyle NPCs with simple links on the Windfellow's Retreat category page similar to Category:Wehnimer's Landing Storylines. Then I would make a linkback from the Gargoyle family creatures page to the Windfellow's Retreat category page with a simple sentence that says something along the lines of: "Gargoyles have also been used as Non-Player Character races such as at [[:Category:Windfellow's Retreat|premium festival Windfellow's Retreat]]. I hope that clears up what I meant. MOD-GSMOTTE (talk) 23:21, 18 April 2021 (CDT)
- Oh, before I forget... Remember too that some are going to use Help:Storyline NPCs and others are going to use Template:Merchants. Some may use both.MOD-GSMOTTE (talk) 23:24, 18 April 2021 (CDT)
- Thank you for the clarification! The Wehnimer's page is actually the page I used as a model for the Windfellow page when I did a deeper investigation into how other storyline pages did it. I've been viewing this as a first pass thing. I know in my own personal logs I have alternate descriptions, and I can find some of the merchant ones. For now I just wanted to get things in a state that people can start messing with adding info. Hopefully. I also want to get the logs of Tephra's storytelling events up too, and I see how to add it to the category (I think). We'll see. WINTERDAWN (talk) 23:56, 18 April 2021 (CDT)
