Loresong

You see a huge cavern with a pool of molten lava in the middle of it, glowing bright orange and dark red. A giant vat is suspended over the pool, and a network of bridges and causeways surround the vat. Dwarves are busy at work, sweating in the intense heat.

The dwarves seem excited by their current project and the ore that is heating in the vat. Finally, some of the smelted ore is siphoned off into molds to make bars. As the molds fill, a mage traces a series of glowing runes while chanting an incantation, imbuing an enchantment into the liquid metal.

The vision shifts to a large workshop with a stack of mithril bars piled to one side. Dwarves wearing heavy aprons pump the billows on large forges while others hammer on anvils. They appear to be crafting war hammers from the enchanted mithril.

Dwarves of the Schneckgren clan are gathered, excited by the arrival of a shipment of new weapons. The clan leader steps forward and places the fine war hammers into the care of a priest of Eonak.

The vision fades and then becomes clear again. The priest is in a temple and, one by one, places each weapon on the altar, invoking a blessing. When the priest completes the rite, he stamps a golden anvil into the haft of each war hammer.

The vision shifts again, and a small crowd is gathered around the clan leader. The leader presents the hammers to the veteran warriors of the clan, stating the great weapons are to be used to protect their holdings.

You see a frenzied battle in progress at one of the Schneckgren outposts near a gold mine. Villagers are in a panic, quickly gathering a few possessions and preparing to flee the horde of orcs that threatens them.

The veteran warriors are at the forefront of the battle, wielding their mithril hammers to cut a swathe of destruction through the orcish forces. The orcs keep coming in ever-increasing numbers. It becomes clear the warriors are trying to hold the orcs at bay as their clan members make their escape down hidden tunnels.

A vision of battle unfurls again within your mind. Many of the outnumbered dwarves have fallen, and more die at the hands of the invading orcs. A signal is sent down the tunnel that the last of the local clan have fled down the escape route.

One lone dwarf remains at a narrow section of the tunnel, valiantly giving the escaping people more time. He takes on orc after orc, even though he is bloody and spent, his comrades in arms already having given their lives.

As the final signal comes echoing down the corridor, the dwarf presses a small rock protruding from the hewn stone wall. A loud groaning and rumbling comes from all around, and then the tunnel collapses, burying the last dwarf and the orc army under tons of rock. The battle is thus ended, and the remaining clan is safe.
