Voln Fu is a slang term referring to, collectively, Charl's Throw I, Charl's Throw II, Kai's Punch, Phoen's Kick, Kai's Blow, and Phoen's Blow, all symbols obtained in the Order of Voln.

Each of these symbols provides an attack issued by the THROW (verb), PUNCH (verb), or KICK (verb) commands. Each attack is based on a character's MB, the attack strength value for Order of Voln martial attacks.

Roundtimes

Throw and Punch each cause a 3 second roundtime, while Kick causes a 4 second roundtime. If the Voln Fu user fails his or her attack significantly, the roundtime generated can be enormous. For example, a level 6 Voln Fu user kicking a banshee might incur a 30 second roundtime with the side effect of chronic death.

THTs and DFs

Much like a regular melee weapon, Voln Fu attacks have both a DF value and a (hidden) AvD value. The AvD of Voln Fu is calculated directly into a value called THT, along with some other factors, like the effects of a Spirit Barrier spell.

The THTs and DFs for Throw, Punch, and Kick against the different AsGs are as follows:

(missing template)

MB Calculation

MB is dependent on a character's stats, skills, active spells, and other factors.

Throw MB = Brawling Skill * 20/17 (rounded) + Perception Skill/20 + Agility Bonus/2 + Dexterity Bonus/2 + Strength Bonus/5
Punch MB = Throw MB + # of Completed Voln Steps
Kick MB = Throw MB + # of Completed Voln Steps

Other Factors that affect MB

  • When Voln Fu is employed against the living, do not add the # of Completed Voln Steps to the MB.
  • Some spells that give melee AS bonuses increase MB by the AS bonus divided by 5. This includes Symbol of Courage.
  • The spell Mobility gives +20 MB.
  • Armor affects MB by: -(Action Penalty + 1).
  • Encumberance negatively affects MB.
  • Ranks in Combat Maneuvers allegedly increase MB by +1 per 10 ranks.
  • Spells that reduce AS (such as Spirit Barrier) do effectively reduce MB; assuming the opposite of this is a common misconception. The reduction comes in the form of an increase of the THT of the attack.
