Landing Events - 2018-11-30 - Marshal Proceedings (log)
Eoantos 30-Eorgaen 1, 5118
by Leafiara Autumnwind of the TownCrier
Summary
- Thadston arrives with news that Glethad is being monitored and will likely be permitted to do his work--which he revealed after some persuasion of the hands-around-throat variety to be recording what he learned in the Ithzir plane. He will work closely with Captains Stormyrain and Shinann to see measures of security and observation.
- The Town Council will be implementing lasting improvements to Shanty Town, using years of generous donations, and Thadston says it's strategically important to prove a healthy alternative to the Rooks before they rebuild--as they haven't gone away, but are quiet.
- Mayor Lylia brings up how the wealth earned by building Praxopius' ships has also contributed to the Shanty Town improvements, but Thadston says not to count it so fortunate and brings up reports that after the attack on Glaoveln, bone spires burrowed up in various spots along the western coast of the Empire and killed hundreds with the green miasma. However, they now seem contained. Goat asks if the one beneath Darkstone Bay is still underground and Thadston assumes so, but says to be cautious.
- Thadston tells the Mayor and Captains that they're stuck with him, as Thrayzar is recovering but still unstable in whatever's afflicting him.
- Thadston says he'll begin planning on hunting down Raznel, unwilling to wait for her next move, and to that has sent word for Pylasar to return. Balley asks where Raznel is and he says she was last seen entering the Bleaklands, but no one can be certain where she is now.
- In the wake of Grishom Stone's strike on the Wyrdeep Forest, Thadston says he has a hunch that we shouldn't think the Empire hasn't noticed. Ysharra raises the question of how they'll respond and with whom, and Thadston adds with how many.
- Concluded with his news, Thadston says he still owes Magister Raelee a visit to gather "the Magister's notes"--presumably referring to Dennet Kestrel's notes from his extended time in the Bleaklands, which he said he'd wanted when he first returned.
- Balley asks if a vision she's seen of a lady in black in an abandoned mansion surrounded by fire means anything to Thadston and he says visions and seeing are for children, telling her that powerful magic, healing, and wielding a sword are more valuable for a battle against the witch; Stormyrain says that scrying has been helpful in the past against Grishom and Raznel.
- Thadston says the witch will die and "I don't care how many bodies we have to climb over to make it so," then winces at a seeming pain in his side before wishing everyone a good night.

Glethad's Work
[Town Square Central]
This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see some stone benches with some stuff on it and an herbal remedy donation bin.
[Over the amunet...]
Thadston: "Eve."
Thadston: "I'll be along shortly to discuss some recent developments. Maybe the Mayor's office? No one wants to stand around in snow."
[Moot Hall, Mayor Lylia's Office]
From a dais, the maoral desk and an ivory and velvet curule seat loom over two carved wooden chairs. Tapestry rugs cover the hardwood floor, their patterns complementing the arched windows flanking the desk. A stag's head stares at a panoramic fresco mounted opposite it. In a corner near the bar, a scarred witchwood perch rises to the high ceiling, while several feet away, a black iron stove rests against the west wall and is topped with a silver kettle. You also see a varnished modwir door, a maoral bookcase and a small maoral sideboard with some stuff on it.
Also here: Warchief Archales, Maags, Mistress Velana, Lyrna, Great Lord Repaire, Conquerer of Reim Neovik, Cabal, Event Planner Beyrn, High Lord Gnaeusprimus, Land Pirate Maylan, Bernadette, Mister Pukk, Ysharra who is sitting, Melikor, Stormyrain, Conquerer of Reim Claudaro, Dergoatean, Khobra, Severine, Chaoswynd, Meggiemae who is sitting, Azuryn, Sorranie, Shinann, Maiden Leafiara, High Lord Tetreves who is sitting, Gypsy Scribe Balley, Sir Cryheart, Mayor Lylia who is sitting, Vice Chancellor Xorus
Lord Thadston just came through a varnished modwir door.
Thadston twists his head slightly, cracking his neck. He looks relieved.
Cryheart says, "Evening Lord Thadston."
Thadston nods.
Thadston says, "Evenin'."
Balley softly says, "Hello Thadston."
Thadston says, "Captains."
Thadston nods at Stormyrain.
Thadston nods at Shinann.
Speaking to Thadston, Lylia says, "A pleasure to see you. It has been some time."
Thadston asks, "Any more interplanar refugees fall from the sky?"
Lylia says, "Only the one."
Cryheart says, "Nothing I hae noticed."
Thadston says, "No? Good."
Speaking to Thadston, Maylan greets, "Lord Thadston man!"
Cryheart says, "Other than Glethad."
Thadston nods at Maylan.
Thadston says, "Glethad is somewhat awake. He's being monitored."
Ysharra says, "...some turkeys in a bad humor, but they're from this plane..."
Cryheart says, "A good idea."
Thadston says, "I am likely going to permit him to do his work after some observation."
Ysharra says, "...I think."
Speaking to Cryheart, Dergoatean asks, "Glethad is back?"
Cryheart says, "He dropped in from the sky."
Cryheart says, "The other eve."
Cryheart says, "Literally."
Dergoatean says, "I would say he shouldn't be in this town, but Stone already sees everything here anyway."
Speaking to Cryheart, Dergoatean asks, "Like an implosion victim?"
Thadston says, "At first he didn't wish to reveal what work he intended to do."
Cryheart asks, "And what kind of work do ye think he is doing?"
Thadston says, "But then he couldn't breathe very well."
Thadston says, "And he seemed willing to share."
Dergoatean asks, "And what's that?"
Speaking to Dergoatean, Ysharra says, "Like those kappa subjects you dark artists use for your research, indeed."
Cryheart says, "More like a fiery crystal sphere."
Speaking to Thadston, Lylia says, "These things happen."
Speaking to Thadston, Maylan says, "You'll have to teach me that trick sometime."
Speaking to Ysharra, Dergoatean says, "It's for science."
Thadston says, "He's determined to make record of things he learned while in the Ithzir plane."
Speaking to Dergoatean, Ysharra says, "And fun."
Thadston says, "I am..."
Speaking to himself, Dergoatean says, "Te klaloc lethe ram lette..."
Thadston looks out the window for a moment, as if recalling something.
Thadston says, "I am inclined to allow him to do so."
Speaking to Thadston, Dergoatean asks, "Will you have much to add?"
Thadston says, "We will see." [Might or might not be a response to Goat.]
Leafiara muses, "Well, it could be interesting and helpful."
Lylia says, "You and he have something in common, after all...however unwillingly it occurred."
Thadston says, "But I will be working closely with the Captains to ensure certain measures of security and observation are adhered to."
Thadston nods at Stormyrain.
Thadston nods at Shinann.
Shinann folds her hands behind her back.
Stormyrain folds her arms over her chest.
Shinann nods at Thadston.
Dergoatean says, "Hopefully stepped up a bit from the days of Grishom and the brass tower."
Thadston asks, "This displeases you?"
Thadston peers quizzically at Stormyrain.
Speaking lightly to Dergoatean, Leafiara says, "Even he said as much."
Speaking to Thadston, Stormyrain says, "I haven't had enough time with Glethad..while he was able to breathe..to ascertain my true opinion of his work, but as you say--you've decided to allow it."
Lylia notes, "Captain Shinann has also sought magical assistance in this matter, which of course is something I am certain Captain Stormyrain would also find agreeable."
Thadston says, "I am always willing to listen to my Captains, should you provide alternative ideas."
Thadston nods at Stormyrain.
Speaking to Thadston, Dergoatean says, "I wonder what complex, arcane magic was employed that might've interrupted Glethad's breathing."
Speaking to Thadston, Stormyrain says, "As you say."
Thadston says, "My hands around his neck."
Thadston nods at Dergoatean.
Speaking to Thadston, Dergoatean exclaims, "I am shocked - Shocked!"
Ysharra says, "Not that complex."
Speaking to Thadston, Leafiara praises, "Practical."
Speaking to Dergoatean, Stormyrain murmurs, "Keep up."
Lylia says, "Admirably direct as ever."
Maags says, "'parentlies there is much to catch up on in town happenings."
Thadston says, "But that is only the beginning of the news."
Maags says, "Build a bigger gate."
Improvements in Shanty Town
Thadston says, "The Council has met, perhaps for one of the final times before year's end..."
Thadston says, "We'll be undergoing, at least, with generous donations for what seems like years, to try to implement some lasting improvements to Shanty Town."
Maylan gawks at Thadston.
Maags exclaims, "Is Maylan here!"
Maags exclaims, "Oh!"
Maags beams happily at Maylan!
Ysharra asks, "As in tearing down the shanty part of it, at last?"
Thadston says, "I cannot say for certain what it will look like, or how long it'll take, but everyone was in agreement something must happen."
Speaking eagerly to Thadston, Maylan asks, "Truly?"
Thadston nods at Maylan.
Leafiara comments, "Good timing after part of it was set on fire a few nights ago, anyway."
Speaking to herself, Maylan says, "Oh my..."
Speaking to Ysharra, Melikor asks, "There's another part of it?"
Maags exclaims, "Pink roofs!"
Speaking to Melikor, Ysharra says, "Yes. The people who live in them."
A snow white raven suddenly releases an ear-piercing shriek!
Thadston says, "Strategically, it makes sense too, with Rysus gone. It is important we provide a healthy alternative before the Rooks rebuild."
Speaking to Leafiara, Claudaro says, "Makes clearing room for the improvements easier... all part of the plan."
Speaking to a snow white raven, Ysharra says, "Darling, hush."
Thadston says, "But they have not gone away. They are just quiet."
Speaking to Thadston, Dergoatean says, "Here's hoping."
Bone Spires
Lylia mildly says, "How fortunate, then, that Praxopius' coffers were deep and that the wealth earned in our shipyards will serve a more lasting purpose."
Thadston says, "Do not count it so fortunate just yet."
Thadston nods at Lylia.
Thadston says, "You will no doubt receive some reports soon."
Thadston nods at Lylia.
Thadston says, "I've happened to collect mine sooner."
Speaking to Thadston, Lylia replies, "You and my advisor are always rays of sunshine."
Thadston says, "It's been said, not long after the attack on Glaoveln..."
Thadston says, "Within weeks later, bone spires burrowed up from the ground along various locations along the western coast of the Empire."
Thadston says, "Witnesses claimed a green miasma...a rolling mist, killing hundreds."
Ysharra says, "The ones we saw after Kragnack's final death."
Leafiara says, "Falzcrow did say something like that might have happened..."
Claudaro says, "Maybe they'll take affirmitive action then, rather than play with the Krols."
Thadston says, "There's been no more reports. It seems now contained. No new incidents."
Thadston says, "But I will issue some measure of caution."
Lylia quietly says, "I was aware of this miasma on the shores of Glaoveln, and we lost many more even after the battle was won because of it. Kragnack was able to deliver a parting blow before he succumbed to his own injuries."
Thadston says, "A spire was burrowed beneath our own sands here nearby."
Dergoatean asks, "The one in Darkstone Bay stayed put underground?"
Dergoatean nods at Thadston.
Thadston says, "We assume, for now."
Thadston nods at Dergoatean.
Thadston says, "But we should be ever cautious and prepared."
Dergoatean says, "Good and bad news."
Maags says, "Should put a ring of rocks around it."
Maags says, "That could hurt."
Ysharra says, "His dire tidings didn't seem like simple dying wheezes. He was earnest about this."
Thrayzar's Condition
Thadston says, "And..."
Santiel asks, "Are you talking about that large crystal I seen at the black sand?"
Thadston glances at Lylia.
Thadston glances at Stormyrain.
Thadston glances at Shinann.
Santiel asks, "Or whatever it was?"
Thadston says, "You are still stuck with me for now."
Thadston says, "Thrayzar is recovering. Eating more, drinking more."
Lylia warmly says, "Oh, a pity."
Thadston says, "But he's still unstable."
Thadston says, "In...whatever you want to call it."
Leafiara cautiously asks, "Mentally or temporally?"
Thadston says, "That's happening to him."
Speaking to Leafiara, Stormyrain says, "Yes."
Lylia says, "I am, of course, pleased to hear that Thrayzar is recovering, albeit slowly. Perhaps it is something that fades with time. So to speak."
Shinann says, "I have seen it... when I have checked on him. Which has been each day."
Lylia says, "But we are most fortunate to have someone so capable in his stead."
Thadston says, "I.."
Thadston rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Lylia stresses, "Someone hale and in fine fettle."
Witch Hunt
Thadston says, "I have also decided we will begin to work on plans to hunt down Raznel again. I am not willing to allow us to wait until her next move. To that end, I've sent word for Pylasar. For him to come back."
Speaking excitedly to Thadston, Leafiara exclaims, "Finally!"
Dergoatean says, "So we might see him tomorrow, a thousand years from now, or last Tuesday."
Maags says, "We has missed him. Not her tho."
Lylia smoothly says, "Excellent. I am glad you read my most recent missive on this."
Shinann says, "Good."
Balley softly asks, "Any idea where she is?"
Speaking eagerly to Thadston, Leafiara says, "Just give us word any time you need anything that might help."
Thadston says, "She was last seen entering the Bleaklands."
Speaking to Ysharra, Dergoatean says, "It's ... hm, it's very complicated."
Speaking to Ysharra, Maags exclaims, "Everything is doubled!"
Thadston says, "No one can be certain. Yet."
Speaking to Dergoatean, Ysharra says, "I'll take your word for it. Especially ones I don't understand."
Between a Stone and an Empire
Thadston says, "Also, there is no evidence of this yet..."
Thadston says, "Merely my hunch."
Thadston says, "With Grishom Stone inside of the Deadfall...and his strike on the Wyrdeep..."
Thadston says, "Do not think for an instant the Empire has not noticed."
Dergoatean asks, "You don't think it's the very last we've heard of the matter?"
Lyrna says, "Hunches may not always be right, but they have value."
Balley softly asks, "Will Stone come out if we find Raznel so we have to deal with them both?"
Ysharra says, "The main question is how they'll respond."
Ysharra says, "And with whom."
Thadston says, "And how many."
Speaking to Balley, Stormyrain says, "I'm certain Grishom sees Raznel as a hedge-witch of no consequence with the Star in his grasp."
Balley softly says, "Sorry I am just curious since I have not much experience with Stone and never had any with Raznel."
Ysharra says, "I would think at the least..."
Ysharra says, "The Hall would be part of that response."
Tetreves says, "How did you..."
Preparing
Balley softly asks, "Would either of them have any reason to be around an abandoned Mansion?" [this comes back later]
Thadston winces.
Lyrna asks, "An abandoned mansion?"
Thadston says, "That's all I have for tonight."
Speaking to Balley, Leafiara guesses, "Another vision?"
Speaking to Maags, Ysharra says, "Both of you bounce around so much I suppose this makes sense."
Balley softly says, "I have had visions lately with a lady in black."
Cryheart says, "That is good info."
Balley softly says, "In an abandoned mansion surrounded by fire."
Thadston glances at Raelee.
Thadston says, "I still owe you a visit."
Speaking to Ysharra, Maags says, "Easier one can see."
Speaking to Thadston, Leafiara repeats, "Anything you need regarding Raznel, let us all know."
Speaking to Thadston, Lylia says, "Thank you for bringing us word on so many fronts."
Thadston nods at Raelee.
Thadston says, "For the Magister's notes."
Thadston nods at Raelee.
Thadston nods at Stormyrain. [Perhaps a whispered exchange; no obvious response.]
Speaking to Thadston, Raelee says, "I have not forgotten."
Balley softly says, "I know some in here have heard me in my readings as of laste."
Maags says, "I do not care for Raznel more than I do not care for jus about anything."
Balley softly asks, "Cry it was in yours right?"
Cryheart rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Speaking to Thadston, Santiel asks, "Should we expect a conflict when the two meet up?"
Cryheart says, "Been awhile."
Cryheart nods at Balley.
Balley softly says, "Or was it Chamorr's or both."
Thadston asks, "What two?"
Cryheart says, "But possible."
Speaking in Faendryl, Lylia bluntly says something you don't understand.
Lylia nods at Thadston.
Santiel says, "The witch and Stone."
Balley softly says, "I wonder if they will make us take sides."
Speaking in Faendryl, Thadston says something you don't understand.
Thadston nods at Lylia.
Speaking in Faendryl to Lylia, Khobra remarks something you don't understand.
Stormyrain repeats, "Grishom wouldn't bother with Raznel, I'm sure he sees her magic beneath him now. Like a hedge-witch compared to his power with the Star."
Thadston shrugs at Santiel.
Lylia wearily says, "They have different methods, intentions, and manners in all regards. That they share the same time, at least for now, does not mean they are aligned or in opposition."
Santiel says, "The need for power drives people to forget common sense."
Speaking to Stormyrain, Dergoatean says, "I think we're all hedge-witches, at best, to Grishom."
Bernadette softly says, "It be like a drug fer some."
Speaking to Dergoatean, Stormyrain says, "I don't think some of us even reach that level, but yes."
Speaking to Santiel, Lylia says, "Only for those unaccustomed to power."
Speaking to Thadston, Balley softly asks, "This mansion I saw was on a cliff with a dead tree, does that mean anything to you?"
Pukk quietly says, "Well, that was fun."
Thadston says, "Visions and magical stories of deciphering the future are for children."
Thadston nods at Balley.
Thadston says, "That's what it means to me."
Balley softly says, "I was just trying to help."
Speaking to Balley, Dergoatean asks, "Have you ever been over to Stone Manor?"
Balley softly says, "You shall not hear more."
Xorus says, "Without knowing her ultimate goals, it is difficult to say how the witch might clash or aid Grishom."
Speaking to Balley, Dergoatean says, "We should try to row you over there, see if it reveals anything."
Balley nods.
Maags says, "Maybes if she feels betrayed by Stone she will tries to be on our side against him."
Thadston asks, "Trying to help?"
Thadston peers quizzically at Balley.
Maags exclaims, "Not that we would takes her!"
Lyrna says, "It seems unwise to discount a source of information because you don't ... believe in it...?... there is more to the world than we understand."
Thadston says, "Then pick up a trade that's valuable to our upcoming fight with the witch."
Balley softly says, "Just trying to say what I have seen in my visions repeatedly. You see I am a seer."
Thadston says, "Learn powerful magic. Learn to heal. Learn to wield a sword and kill."
Leafiara remarks, "She's good at two of those."
Thadston says, "Don't talk to me about colorful cards, water bowls and licking your finger in the wind."
Thadston waves his hand in a dismissive gesture.
Lylia says, "Let us turn our attention to the facts before us. We know where the witch was last seen. We know the Bleaklands present their own challenges."
Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra says, "I wonder what the Igaesha would have to say about either subject."
Speaking to Thadston, Tetreves asks, "How do we know there will be a fight?"
Stormyrain casually offers, "Scrying has been helpful in the past in our battle against both Grishom and Raznel. And some of us who practice the craft have been around centuries longer than your lifespan will ever be."
Speaking to Ysharra, Lylia says, "A good question."
Thadston shrugs.
Speaking to Stormyrain, Dergoatean asks, "You know, that scrying mess I got myself into a few years ago?"
Speaking to Dergoatean, Stormyrain says, "I remember it."
Speaking to Stormyrain, Dergoatean says, "Things have changed subtly, in the last months."
Thadston says, "Don't ruffle your feathers and scry me a river. If you want your water bowls and runestones, fine, but don't expect me to chase ghosts."
Speaking to Stormyrain, Dergoatean says, "It was always him looking in on me, after that first incident. If not controlling me."
Stormyrain lightly says, "Oh no, just shadows of witches you think you see."
Speaking to Thadston, Ysharra says, "Some ghosts can be quite potent."
Balley softly asks, "Dergoatean take me to the mansion please?"
Speaking to Stormyrain, Dergoatean says, "Lately it feels like it's sometimes working both ways."
Lylia says, "Seeing through any means must also be informed by the knowledge of our other senses. I shall listen for word of her, see if I can catch the scent of her foulness. There are other means to find her, and I see no need to insist upon any set position tonight."
Thadston glances at Stormyrain.
Speaking to Dergoatean, Stormyrain says, "That could be helpful."
Pukk quietly says, "No, don't have to chase ghosts. There are plenty of them in the graveyard."
Speaking to Balley, Dergoatean says, "Can you find your way to the Isle of Four Winds? I can take you if you can get yourself to Gardenia Commons - after we're doen here."
Lylia adds, "We are, after all, of one mind: The witch must be dealt with."
Balley softly says, "Ok."
Speaking to Stormyrain, Dergoatean says, "If I am not misinterpreting, of course."
Ysharra says, "I'm curious what her father is up to, as well."
Speaking to Stormyrain, Dergoatean says, "It's vague, so far. I feel obvious things from him - a desire for power, a connection to the Star."
Thadston says, "The witch will die."
Speaking to Dergoatean, Stormyrain says, "It is possible. Grishom does not do much to hide himself...he fancies anyone that might be able to mentally track him as no threat."
Thadston says, "I don't care how many bodies we have to climb over to make it so."
Speaking to himself, Tetreves says, "'Sounds like a witch hunt."
Speaking to Stormyrain, Dergoatean says, "That seems our only chance at overcoming his power - his hubris."
Speaking to Thadston, Maylan says, "I'm not so very good at climbing."
Speaking seriously to Tetreves, Leafiara says, "Better believe it."
Speaking to Melikor, Ysharra says, "Indeed. A lot of ghosts to be made."
Thadston winces, moving his hand to his side momentarily.
Cryheart asks, "Still hurts?"
Thadston says, "Goodnight everyone. Enjoy the quiet snow."
Lord Thadston just went through a varnished modwir door.
