Benediction is a utility spell that adds to both the generic attack strength (AS) and non-bolt defensive strength (DS) of the caster and member's of his/her group. If the caster is not leading the group, it is necessary for him/her to cast this spell at the group leader. Maximum group AS/DS bonuses are +15.

  • Only spell ranks up to the character's level count toward these bonuses.

AS Bonus

  • This spell provides a base bonus of +5 generic AS at spell rank 7.
  • There is also a +1 AS bonus for every two cleric spell ranks trained past rank 7 with a maximum bonus of +15 AS at rank 27. This bonus applies to both the caster and group members.
  • Additionally, there is a +1 AS (self-cast only) bolt spell bonus for every two ranks past rank 27. The maximum bolt AS bonus is +51 at level 99 with 99 spell ranks. (See also: Benediction (307) updates (saved post))
  • A simple way to determine the bolt AS bonus is to subtract 2 from the mana cost.

DS Bonus

  • This spell provides a base bonus of +5 DS at spell rank 7.
  • There is an additional +1 DS bonus for every two cleric spell ranks trained past rank 7 with a maximum bonus of +15 DS at rank 27. This bonus applies to both the caster and group members.
  • This spell does NOT provide a DS bonus against bolt attacks.

Mana Cost

  • The base cost is 7 mana plus 1 additional mana per bonus point past rank 7. The maximum cost is 53 mana at level 99 with 99 spell ranks.
  • Since the bolt AS bonus for this spell is capped by spell ranks up to the character's level, there is also a cap on the mana cost.
  • Maximum mana cost formula: round ( level / 2) + 3
E.g., level 65 character: round [ ( 65 / 2 ) + 3 ] = 35.5 rounds up to 36 maximum mana with 65 or more spell ranks.

Proximity

While the spell initially benefits all members of the cleric's group, proximity to the cleric is necessary to maintain the benefit, as it is the strength of the Cleric's conviction that bolsters their inherent abilities. Mechanically, the game intermittently checks to ensure that a character is in the room with the cleric that initially cast Benediction - if not, the spell expires.

Training in Spiritual Lore, Blessings, provides for a chance for the group to receive a +15 AS bonus on a given attack. The chance of success is 1% at 6 lore ranks, and has a maximum of 15% at 195 lore ranks.

The messaging for this lore benefit is as follows, seen prior to making an attack:

Pearly light flares up suddenly from within you, lending strength and focus to your attack!
