Morgulis Faendryl is a necromancer from the Clerisy of House Faendryl. He was hired on contract to travel to the Darkstone Bay region in Koaratos 5126 Modern Era, where he was to assist the Extrachthonic Cartographer's Guild task force in countering the Ithzir. The Harrowers sought a specialist to help them study a captured "dark Ithzir", which was displaying intrinsic necromantic qualities. This was necessary for understanding the nature of the threat. It was suspected there was a deep relationship with the shadow entities in the Ithzir incursions, and the Harrowers needed to determine if they have the same origin. There was a question of whether they were Ithzir corrupted with shadows, or some kind of imitation Ithzir made from animate matter.

Morgulis is a specialist in the study of demonic necromancy, or extraplanar necromancy in general, which is highly restricted under the laws of House Faendryl. Morgulis holds hostile and dismissive views toward politics. He considers such issues beneath him. Morgulis is a middle class careerist whose sense of superiority is bound up in prestige status symbols of the Clerisy. He is fluent in Common but regards its native speakers as gutter trash.

In July 2026:

Morgulis smirks, "Spare me your misguided layman's idolatry. Thalita Trevil is little more than an amateur, a dilettante who dabbles in the abyss."

Morgulis remarks, "This shadows counterfeit of an Ithzir is impressive enough. Merging the extraplanar and animate matter is a form of demonic necromancy."

Morgulis sneers, "Do not be a crude simpleton. There is no inherent contradiction between the kinds, the shadows themselves may well have Ithzir roots."

Morgulis says, "The Ithzir are fundamentally reincarnations. There may be little more to this than transmogrifying them with shadows."

Morgulis says, "Fools are impressed with complicated magic, and just as easily fooled with cantrips and parlor tricks. They lack the refinement to know the difference. Toothless infants gumming shiny objects in their mouths. Any idiot can make something complicated and incomprehensible by smashing it with a hammer."

Morgulis scoffs, "You god botherers. The Arkati are so very much less than us. They are the illusion of depth in a puddle, unfathomable from being so shallow."

Morgulis spits, "Charlatans with this ur'vissi sophistry! Whenever someone makes up their own words for a thing, professing it is not merely that thing, but too profound to be understood, you may be quite certain they have no idea what they are talking about. That they are saying nothing at all, and convinced of their own nonsense."

Morgulis smugly preens, "If you must know, I was solicited for an endowed chair at Korthyr Academy, but it would have involved too much instructing. I studied under a Scholar of the Valences for my tertiary sabbatical, which short-listed me for a clerkship with the Basilican Sorcerer, and my work is in contention for the Thanris Prize."

Morgulis sneers and indignantly curls his lip in disgust.

The shadowy Ithzir in the gibbet writhes and clacks as Morgulis indifferently rips around in its deformed and reforming flesh.
Questions and Answers

In July 2026:

ARALYTE:
Morgulis snidely says, "I cannot be bothered to care about some missing Palestra. It was most prestigious having the Extrachthonic Cartographer's Guild call upon me for my mastery in the study of demonic necromancy. Perhaps the Palestra would find its resources better spent by assigning all of these Blades to my own work."

BLEAKLANDS:
Morgulis sighs with some irritation, "That Harrower Vortelis is right. The 'Bleak' soil is transmogrified ebon-swirled primal venom-blood. There was some blood witch involved in making it, a chaotic mess of varied magicks. This witch was undoubtedly taught the black arts by demon worshippers from the southern wastelands."

BLOOD MAGIC:
Morgulis scoffs and mocks, "Oh! But do you give the blood to me freely? Beware spilling it! The spatter might resemble your child! Avoid stepping on cracks, take three steps backwards, and throw rock salt over your left shoulder. It is vulgar, irrational, unschooled, reckless sympathetic magic, blindly wielding inexplicable forces like a toddler hurling up red paint. Make a doll in my likeness and stab it through the ears with knitting needles so I do not have to hear any more of this nonsense."

EMPIRE:
Morgulis sneers arrogantly, "What little imagination it takes for Faendryl to be wasted in politics rather than the pursuit of greatness. Those who cannot do, become Nalfein. Truly. It is not worth the time of any great mind to care for institutional politics, much less the irrelevant details of those who live beyond our borders."

HARROWERS:
Morgulis smugly says, "The Harrowers are all fine and well, competent technicians, as far as that goes. But there is no genius in it. They are merely a more daring kind of bug collector, the ilk who try to contribute minor minutiae to the Enchiridion Valentia. I am in the Book of Records some 17 times out of pure idle happenstance. What is the collection of trivia and mere trivialities in other valences, when one can sunder and forge the very fabric of being? If only the Basilica were more far sighted."

MORGULIS:
Morgulis favors you with pure and utter disdain, "While this is undoubtedly the very highest moment in your own life, fleetingly brushing up against the kind of fame that actually survives into history, it is truly insignificant to the extent that my fame precedes myself. Be satisfied with basking in my presence. I do not give autographs."

NECLERIINES:
Morgulis waves his hand, brushing you off dismissively. "That is the most trivially obvious example of demonic necromancy. Vathors make them from a confluence of their so-called 'hellfire' with corpse flesh of our own world. Necleriines may be made in a similar fashion by warlocks and blood mages who understand the principles of the dark essences involved. What is more interesting, not that I imagine you would have put it together yourself, is the similarity of their face liquid to the v'reen morphs."

PARAGONS:
Morgulis scowls at you, "What an utterly insipid word for it! You are speaking of seizing the locus of power over a whole demi-plane, becoming a demi-god, over the very constitutive essences of the valence itself. Much as a primordial demon 'god' of the infernal realms. That is a matter of demonic necromancy, far beyond the likes of you."

PATRIARCH:
Morgulis exasperatedly sighs and responds, "Honor and Glory to the Patriarch."

VRUUL:
Morgulis raises an eyebrow and remarks, "Ancient Marluvian necromancy. No one knows for sure how ancient. They do ritualistic sacrifices of still living victims, pouring black ichor from urns, harvested from caustic blobs. Then they put the mutilated bodies in tall stone jars with extraplanar fungi, perhaps demon blood, as nutrients for the foul necrolytic fluid. The vruul are 'pickled' for millennia into leathery gargoyles. Simulacra. Like blood golems or homunculi. What would you know about it?"
