Prayer of Holding is one of the first spells taught to burgeoning Clerics, allowing them to interfere with the power controlling undead monsters. Creatures thus held are rendered immobile, unable to attack and given a substantial penalty when attempting to defend.
While the spell remains in effect, the bound undead are held rigidly in place. Thus, if the cleric wishes to knock the creature prone (either by use of a weapon, spell damage, or Unbalance), this should be done before casting the spell.
This spell is in many ways similar to the Major Spiritual spell Bind, but has a lower cost and works only on the undead.
- Duration
- The duration of this spell is based upon the spell endroll. The minimum duration is 8 seconds (101 endroll).
- Cost
- Prayer of Holding has a cost in mana equal to half the level of the creature, divided by two. It should be noted that while the cost scales up when CAST, there is no change in cost when invoked from a Holy Receptacle. Thus, many higher-level clerics hunting undead will prepare one or two gems containing this spell to conserve mana.
