Ta'Vaalor was one of five remaining city-states in the Elven Nations.
After the opening of the trail across the Dragonspine Mountains (via Zul Logoth) which connects the Elven Nations to the adventuring lands of Wehnimer's Landing, Solhaven, Icemule Trace and River's Rest, Ta'Vaalor also became frequented by adventurers. In the case of Ta'Vaalor, most of these adventurers were relatively inexperienced, and many travelled on to other areas that they found more challenging there after gaining some skills there.
It was separated from Ta'Illistim and its environs by the Lake of Fear. A free ferry service (funded by King Tyrnian of Ta'Vaalor) crossed the lake every half hour or so. Passengers can bribe the ferry captain to speed the journey along at the price of 5,000 silvers worth of gems or notes, or 2,500 for citizens.
Ta'Vaalor was built as a fortress on an island with drawbridges, right in the middle of the Mistydeep River. There are four bridges total, each leading to a different part of the outlying area. The natural moat makes the city very defendable.
Among the city's other wandering residents were a dwarven recruiter, a sleek golden ferret, a light-robed erithian woman, the Guard Captain, a middle-aged blonde elven priestess, a ragged old blind man, and a white-robed acolyte.
On Phoenatos 26, 5109, King Tyrnian decreed that a permit was needed for visitors to Ta'Vaalor. Specifically, non-citizens needed such a permit to be able to trade in the town shops. It was still possible to visit the town without the proper papers. The permit needed to be updated on a monthly basis and could be attained from the clerk attending to citizenship issues at the Wyvern Keep.
Any Vaalor elf and full citizen of Ta'Vaalor had the opportunity to join the Crimson Legion, the official army of Ta'Vaalor. Members of the Legion had the opportunity to attain some of the following ranks or titles:
- Crimson Legion Reservist
- Squire Legionnaire
- Legionnaire
- First Legionnaire
- High Legionnaire
