Samarak the Grim was the first chieftain of the Grot'karesh Hammer Clan. Rumors claim his clan was founded by the survivors after the Battle of Maelshyve, many having been cast out of their Bear and Wolf clans. He settled his people and founded the city of Kilanirij, located in the Southron Wastes.
