Summary

As Mayor Thadston meets with Landing defenders, he quickly says the town council's decision to remove Amos as the Steward of the Guilds was "naive, rash, personal, ill-thought out, poorly executed, horribly timed, and frankly, stupid," but will never fault their distrust and dislike of Amos, who he calls a problem needing to be carved out with a sharp blade instead of fire, lest others get burned.

Moving on to the krolvin situation, Thadston's heard that Tyrrax wants a truce and Amos delivered to him. He says that Amos hates slavery more than he hates Thadston and losing profit, so he's willing to work with Amos if he is--but that's also why we need to get the Lalk Morgil, not Amos nor Tyrrax. After hearing out a spirited conversation on all sides from those gathered about Praxopius' secret warehouses, the necessity or redundancy of the ceasefire, the workings of Kharusa's shackles, and more, Thadston concludes that we want to rescue Kharusa and Rian if possible, but for now he'll simply agree to Tyrrax's truce; all other plans hinge on Amos' agreement.

Meanwhile, regarding the consideration that's been given to help willing citizens evacuate into the Hendoran outpost under Lady Larsya, Thadston says he'll speak with her soon and Breshon is due to return next week.

Thadston Arrives

[Vornavis Holdings]

A thread of smoke rises from the stone chimney of a farmstead on the road's north side, and the scent of a wood fire hangs in the air, masking the other odors common to a holding where chickens nest about the yard and hogs sleep beneath the nearby fruit trees. Alone of four holdings along this stretch of the road, this thatch roofed house shows signs of habitation. You also see a half-elven brigand and a human robber.

[General] Thadston thinks, "Evening."

[General] Lylia thinks, "Good evening to you."

[General] Vaemyr thinks, "Evening Mayor."

Leafiara says, "Ah, Thadston's about..."

[General] Stormyrain thinks, "Mayor. Merry eve."

[General] Pukk thinks, "Good evenin."

[General] Pookia asks, "Did you get a new chair?"

[General] Kiyna thinks, "There he is."

Leafiara says, "Guess I'd better hurry along..."

[General] Thadston thinks, "I'll be conducting a town hall meeting in a few moments. It will be in the Moot Hall, Council Chambers. It's upstairs, all the way to the east and through the archway. There's plenty of space in the room for a meeting, the councilors weren't using it."

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Shaylas disk, an emaciated black horse, the Aurien disk, the Blades disk, the translucent Braugi disk, a fluffy white cat, a resplendent obsidian black raven that is flying around, a small raven that is flying around, a weathered haon box, the Stormyrain disk, a white flask, a white flask, the translucent Moglan disk, the Mogui disk, a large acorn, a frosted Elven chocolate muffin, a pale-faced coppery barn owl, a white flask, a smooth bone wand, a silver-traced carved mahogany cart with some stuff on it, a round silver-banded barrel, an herbal remedy donation bin, some wide stone benches with some stuff on it and obvious signs of someone hiding.

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "Actually we did, when we voted on removing Amos."

[Moot Hall, Assembly Room]

In this large assembly room meetings are convened to deal with the affairs of the town, and the locals hold their religious and social events. There is ample room for benches, long tables and other furnishings befitting special occasions. Sconces for torches, chandeliers holding many candles, and broad windows impart a warm, friendly glow of good fellowship to this space. You also see some wooden benches, a double door and a louvered door.

A rich merlot carpet stretches from end to end of this large, spacious chamber, which is aglow from the moonlight shining in through several arched windows along an entire wall. Large, verdant green plants rest in terra cotta vases in each corner of the room, and the walls are decorated with detailed paintings of nearby historical landmarks. A circular table sits in the center of the room, surrounded by several wooden chairs. You also see the Aurien disk, the Wolfloner disk, a small raven, the Stormyrain disk, the Blades disk, a resplendent obsidian black raven that is flying around, a fluffy white cat, a heavy oak door, a tall white ash door, a tall cherry red door, a tall modwir door, a wide burnished oak archway and obvious signs of someone hiding.

Placing her hand over her heart, Lylia sighs dramatically.

Speaking drunkenly to Lylia, Gutstorm slurs, "Me will make shore to be more attentive of me shurouninsh."

Lylia says, "And it is good to see you too."

[General] Dendum thinks, "There are no moon in sky this night...very unlucky sign."

Speaking drunkenly to Blades, Gutstorm whispers aloud, "Dat how ye play it cool, ye need to try it shum time."

Blades says, "You're doin great."

[General] Geijon asks, "I told Thadston when he was knight commander, I told Casiphia when she was Mother. For all your angles it doesnt matter. In the end who guards the door to your home. It us, the Gryphons and the Landing. We'll die. Do you think about it?"

[General] Chandrellia thinks, "Not really."

Mayor Thadston just marched stiffly through a wide burnished oak archway.

Thadston nods.

Thadston says, "Evening everyone."

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "Evening mayor."

Lylia says, "Good evening to you, Mayor."

Speaking drunkenly to Thadston, Gutstorm slurs, "Jush sho yw know, Lylia made a MUCH better entransh den yoo."

Goldstr says, "Evenin Mayor."

Speaking to Thadston, Dergoatean says, "I notice you left out the 'good' in that greeting."

Lylia says, "All is forgiven, then."

Pietra whispers something to Pukk.

Speaking to Gutstorm, Chandrellia says, "Uumm thought you didnt see her come in."

Thadston says, "I'll leave the mention of good depending on how things end tonight."

Thadston smirks at Dergoatean.

Speaking drunkenly to Chandrellia, Gutstorm whispers aloud, "Me am playing it cool."

Thadston says, "Marshal."

Thadston nods at Stormyrain.

Chandrellia says, "I see."

[General] Geijon asks, "Chandrellia. Is that our worth to you?"

Speaking to Thadston, Stormyrain greets, "Mayor."

Thadston asks, "Am I?"

Thadston peers quizzically at Stormyrain.

Vaemyr says, "I'm sure it'll be good for at least some folks."

Thadston asks, "No vote has been held to remove me, has it?"

Thadston smirks.

[General] Chandrellia asks, "Sir Geijon, this is neither the time nor the place to discuss your opinions on your soap box, perhaps at a later time yes?"

Thadston says, "It doesn't get old."

Thadston winks.

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "We can take one now we got a quarem."

Dendum remarks, "Not yet."

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "Think that requires the Stewards to do that."

[General] Leafiara thinks, "Perhaps we can focus on this one when it's not an hour away from a deadline to send a letter to Tyrrax."

Leafiara says, "No, the Judge." [OOC note: I'd have to go back and review. Not sure if it's the Stewards or Judge who currently remove Mayors, but in the previous system it was the Judge.]

[General] Peggyanne exclaims, "Your soap comes in a box?!"

Speaking jokingly to Thadston, Pukk says, "Well, we haven't voted you out yet. So I guess you're still mayor."

Thadston glances at the wall which is covered in windows.

Lylia quips, "We have decided that Stormyrain is to be mayor in perpetuity. We held a meeting. Did no one inform you?"

Thadston says, "Would you look at all of those windows."

Chandrellia says, "I'll be in my office."

[General] Dendum thinks, "Ahh...now council remembers Krolvin."

Thadston looks over at Chandrellia and shakes his head.

Cryheart asks, "When was the last time they were cleaned?"

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Wait dont vote Thadshtin out, he may show up wit like 8 warchipsh and hold dem over our headsh like da utter fella."

[General] Geijon thinks, "I'm glad our lives our convenience on time."

Thadston says, "You should be here."

Thadston nods at Chandrellia.

Speaking to Lylia, Stormyrain mutters, "Absolutely not."

Speaking to Thadston, Wolfloner asks, "Looking for things to break already?"

Thadston says, "There's a very tough lesson learned from leaders."

Blades says, "I'm goin to have some requests then."

[General] Pals thinks, "I've heard of Soap on a Rope... but not Soap in a Box.."

Speaking to Stormyrain, Lylia says, "I would never wish it upon you."

Through a heavy oak door, you hear Gutstorm yell, "Pukk where da drinksh?"

Leafiara raises an eyebrow in Thadston's direction.

Leafiara says, "I do apologize that we didn't consult you in advance."

Speaking to Thadston, Wolfloner says, "The classic example of the kettle calling the pot black."

Speaking to Thadston, Geijon says, "He beat your ass."

Leafiara says, "We, especially Fahlo, thought that our campaigns made our stances clear with ample time--"

Ycelacie offhandedly says, "Amos isn't even here and all I hear is his name."

Thadston says, "He beat me once. Doesn't mean he would again."

Speaking to Thadston, Leafiara agrees, "I do hope not."

Leafiara grins.

Thadston says, "There's no need to debate the reasons behind going after Amos. I do not like the man. Not at all."

Speaking politely to Chandrellia, Ycelacie says, "Thanks."

Leafiara nods.

Thadston says, "Nor do I like the Rooks. But going after Amos and the Rooks, hurts other townspeople in the process."

Speaking to Thadston, Geijon says, "Mayor. I don't like being diminished in your favor."

Thadston says, "So you cannot go at the problem with fire, or others will be burned."

Vaemyr says, "He still provided us help the other night, and he's done well by many merchants in town, regardless folks should at least remember that, and his help and ships could be important in preparing for the Krolvin."

Leafiara says, "A fair point."

Thadston says, "You need a sharp blade to carve them out."

Speaking to Thadston, Dendum remarks, ""You will make the Moot Hall scapel at the throat of citizens? Because all you speak of are citizens of landing."

Thadston says, "I'll throw no chairs tonight. Well, a strong chance."

Lylia says, "You would think that the phrase 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' did not translate into Common, but it clearly does."

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr asks, "Only people tonight?"

Leafiara carefully says, "I wouldn't necessarily bet on that, depending how informed you are of the current situation."

Speaking innocently to Thadston, Ycelacie says, "I never heard your plan for how we..."

Speaking drunkenly to himself, Gutstorm whispers aloud, "Shaysh da man who troo him chair outta winder da utter night and hit shum byshtannersh wit boken glash."

Speaking laughingly to Thadston, Ycelacie says, "Avoid trouble."

Leafiara says, "The town's somehow collectively established, accidentally broken, fought over the accidental breaking of, and then re-established a truce in a span of three nights."

Thadston says, "Amos is no friend of mine, and our town would be better without him. But he is surrounded by people in this town we do, or should, care about."

Leafiara nods absently at Thadston.

Thadston says, "But, that should be behind us now. What's done is done, and you'll need to live with your decisions, much like I have."

Dergoatean says, "I'm hearing that the mayor wants to solve problems by subtle and surgical means instead of brash and direct ones."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Lylia me'd git ye a drink but none deez countersh hab da Abshinch dat ye like."

Chandrellia mutters, "Well those in the Consortium, the smaller merchants get nothing from him."

Dergoatean says, "And I'm wondering what year it is."

Thadston touches a shard of metal in his arm.

Tyrrax's Requests

Thadston asks, "So the krolvin puppy wants a truce, eh?"

Thadston asks, "And Amos delivered to him?"

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "If I may."

Speaking to Thadston, Geijon says, "You are fond of making excuses."

Lylia says, "He does, although I suspect his 'truce' is more a matter of arming himself more fully."

Thadston peers quizzically at Geijon.

Thadston asks, "What are you going on about now?"

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "Yeah so he can go get more of Fortney's creations to wage more war."

Thadston peers quizzically at Geijon.

Geijon turns to face Thadston.

Thadston glances between Geijon and the windows. All. Of. The. Windows.

Speaking drunkenly to Thadston, Gutstorm slurs, "Me will help ye."

Speaking to Thadston, Geijon asks, "Who was wrong?"

Pukk says, "Somebody better make sure nobody is standing out there."

(Kiyna peers out the window and makes gestures at the people below to clear the area.)

Thadston turns an inquisitive ear toward Chandrellia.

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Tyrrax does wish a cease fire as of right now, as you read in my letter, several of believe him at his word for wanting it destroyed, there are however a few concerns."

Geijon grits his teeth.

Vaemyr says, "He may want it destroyed, but he also wants the power that created things like the metal manticore that raged the lands last year."

Thadston asks, "What're the concerns?"

Thadston nods at Vaemyr.

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "If I am not mistaken and anyone is free to correct me on this, but we aren't sure if he actually wants it destroyed or to take power as a Krolvin."

Vaemyr says, "Don't even think for a moment that wrath won't come here if we let him have those things."

Xorus says, "It is more likely he wants it so he can threaten other krolvin into following him."

Thadston says, "We've already seen what he's been capable of with some of Praxopius's things."

Dergoatean says, "He has mentioned a few times that he _wants_ the blue suffer, rather than wants it destroyed in front of him."

Thadston says, "So instead of destroying it, he wishes to hold it as blackmail, and leverage it against the other krol to fall in line behind him."

Dergoatean says, "Which I hope we agree is right out the window."

Vaemyr says, "Yes, he has said, and I quote "Lark Morgil will be mine"."

Dendum says, "Krolvin do not rise unless they have power over other Krolvin."

Leafiara says, "Well... letting him have it without destroying it is indeed out the window."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "The mentalist he keeps on chains is there against her will, this we know for fact."

Thadston asks, "Is that what you're saying?"

Earthdiver says, "That seems like the obvious plan."

Speaking to Thadston, Goldstr exclaims, "Other Krol and US!"

Earthdiver says, "But it doesn't matter if that is his plan. The possibility of it precludes giving it to him."

Kiyna quietly says, "Lalk Morgil..."

Dergoatean says, "But given that... why are we bothering with this truce? It's clear we're not going to satisfy what he thinks the deal is."

Ycelacie asks, "Why would we consider giving it at all, or Amos who is just a step in that direction?"

Speaking pragmatically to Dergoatean, Leafiara says, "A means of buying time. At least that's my thought."

Ycelacie says, "I said we, I meant you."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Yes, there have been hints that he wishes it use it against other Krolvins, but it hasnt been stated for a fact, just hearsay and little quips."

Speaking to Ycelacie, Vaemyr says, "We shouldn't, we should give nothing to him, it only makes him stronger, each loss he takes with nothing he's gained however, makes him weaker."

Dergoatean says, "And further, he will never be satisfied that the whole town has no hidden copies of the recipe in their minds or on paper, unless we have he mentalist splatter the heads of each and every person in this town."

Speaking to Leafiara, Dergoatean says, "From the last skirmish with the pylons, I thought he needed to buy time more than we did."

Earthdiver says, "Tyraxx is in a bit of a logical bind. If we find it, then the recipe is potentially duplicated in a hundred minds."

Leafiara says, "One thing I would caution... even though I agree with Vaemyr that Tyrrax's strikes have seemed to get progressively weaker, we can't write off that he has a trump card he's not used. The krolvin at Glaoveln had an undead kraken on their side."

Lylia says, "Yes. We forget that the halfling, Kharusa, is as much a weapon as a tool as long as she serves him. Which she appears constrained to do."

Speaking sarcastically to Vaemyr, Ycelacie says, "The rest of your council do not seem in agreement."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Might I be bold enough to say, Mayor, that if we wantto put a true thorn into the Krolvin we need to remove the mentalist from his posession."

Thadston rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Vaemyr says, "Not to mention, something was affecting his portals at the end of their attack the other night, either he has a limit, or the magic we saw on the bay was affecting them."

Earthdiver says, "Rescuing her is of paramount importance. She is his best route toward finding the formula."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Without her, he has pretty much nothing."

Dergoatean says, "I hate losing hostages, but it makes little sense to bend to his will in the interest of their safety, when it endangers a hundred times as many other people."

Kiyna says, "If we take away Kharusa, his means of getting information through brute force is lost. He'll have nothing but the old krolvin book of strategy left, and we are in a good position to defend on that front."

Lylia stresses, "And again, she is a weapon."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Dendum remarks, ""Nothing but Krolvin with magic fleet and bag full of magic power."

Thadston nods at Kiyna.

Speaking to Dendum, Dergoatean asks, "Magic power, you say?"

Speaking to Dergoatean, Dendum says, ""He has the ring."

Dergoatean says, "Oh, power, not powder."

Thadston says, "We want the halfling, he wants Amos."

Vaemyr says, "I actually think getting back our last townsfolk should take priority, as much as I would also like to rescue Kharusa, he's been acting as a scribe for Tyrrax, he could have key information on this true goals."

Dergoatean says, "Of course."

Thadston says, "I doubt he'd trade..."

Speaking to Dendum, Chandrellia says, "If you are referring to his rings of portals, in the last skirmish they seem to be fading with magic, it is my beliefe that they need to be recharged somehow."

Earthdiver says, "She is far more valuable."

Rhaladin says, "Cept da small issue o' her bein on a ship we gots need clue where is. Better tae take her out when he brings er ashore."

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Me kin prolly shave da halfalin agin, me very shneaky."

Rhaladin says, "Nae clue."

Lylia says, "I am not certain he can trade, not without taking off her shackles. They are attuned in some way to her."

Thadston asks, "He has a scribe?"

Vaemyr nods at Thadston.

Gutstorm drunkenly slurs, "Rian Larson."

Speaking to Thadston, Vaemyr says, "Our last missing citizen."

Lylia says, "Yes, a half-Elven man he took from us."

Xorus says, "He wants to use the halfling on Amos regardless."

Speaking to Thadston, Chandrellia says, "Yes sir, a former Militia soldier."

Leafiara says, "Yes, Rian Larson, a miltia member."

Thadston nods.
