This log and summary is from the weekly player meet up on Tuesdays at the Stumbling Pebble Bar II hosted by the Defenders of Mist Harbor on 01/11/2022 from the viewpoint of Kayse Thaellian.
Lormesta 11, 5122
Summary
- Jaysehn asks Landrai if she is having any trouble sleeping. She admits she always has trouble sleeping and that it's nothing abnormal. Jaysehn's inquiry is due to Mist Harbor townsfolk complaining that they have been having trouble sleeping due to nightmares. Jorgarn had been mentioned it in his letters to adventurers while Greth told Jaysehn, Akenna, and Kayse one afternoon that he has been having nightmares surrounding someone he cares about.
- It is mentioned that a young orphan named, Morlid, is also having dreams. He mentioned in them there is a fat, puffy monster with only one eye that seems to have been cut in half lurking outside his windows. The boy claims he is only having these nightmares when there is a storm. Vaemyr offers that with what the orphan has been through it is expected he would have nightmares. Alosaka suggests storms always invoke fear in children and perhaps there is no cause for alarm and is quick to blame it on overactive imaginations.
- Jaysehn admits at first that he was ready to dismiss it as a young child's nightmare until he discloses him, Akenna, and Kayse saw a bulbous creature in the rain after speaking with Greth. The three chased it through town, but with the rain it had disappeared into the night. Akenna mentioned it was flying, swimming and misshapen. Others asked if anyone else had seen it. It was noted the trio heard a child's scream that night as well after the creature disappeared.
- Guarrin inquires if the teeth surrounding the Isle were ever fixed. Akenna mentioned she has collected a barge full of obsidian to start the repairs, but was waiting on Ceyrin to help her and he has disappeared.
- Darcena suggests that someone speaks to the townspeople about their dreams. Kayse adds to the documentation process suggestion and notes that anyone having dreams should be writing them down and keeping a journal. Alosaka volunteers to collect people's stories and Kiyna as well. Darcena also inquires if anyone paints or draws and Kayse hesitantly volunteers to sketch something up of the monster.
- Darcena states if there is anyone who has an idea they want to enact or put into place who hasn't been heard yet, please feel free to mention it or speak to her.
- There is also talk about contacting a follower of Ronan to help with the townsfolks' dreams/nightmares. There is some hesitation involving any Dreamwalkers but Falvicar, Regwen, Katiesa, and Luxelle are mentioned as possibly candidates.
- Jaysehn also mentioned a rumor from the Iyo trader Uhlen, who gave him with a vague and cryptic warning that something was buried below the old Voln citadel ruins.
- Jaysehnn asks Jisandra and Delindra if they wish to see where the orphans are being kept. A group travels with to see the monastery. Jaysehn also points out the citadel ruins and mentioned a few years ago he found a page that said ROT on it in blood.

Trouble Sleeping?
Jaysehn whispers, "So....we need to inform the group of what we saw the other night." You nod faintly at Jaysehn. Jaysehn whispers, "I don't want to start a panic...so I might look to you to calm things as I explain." You quietly whisper to Jaysehn, "All joking aside, I can assist where needed." Jaysehn slowly empties his lungs. Jaysehn says, "But...there was some trouble in town the other night." (Kayse takes her cup of coffee and pushes it close to Greth.) Delindra raises an eyebrow in Jaysehn's direction. Jisandra peers quizzically at Jaysehn. Speaking to Landrai, Jaysehn asks, "My Lady...may I ask an odd question?" Speaking to Darcena, you say, "He has not been sleeping well." You furrow your brow, probably adding a wrinkle or two in the process. Speaking to you, Darcena asks, "Too much work?" Guarrin gazes thoughtfully at a small plaque mounted over the bar. Darcena peers quizzically at you. You look at Darcena and shake your head. Landrai softly says, "Of course." Landrai nods at Jaysehn. Jisandra raises an eyebrow. You inform, "He told us the other night he is having bad dreams." You nod at Darcena. Darcena scowls at Greth. Speaking to Landrai, Jaysehn says, "Jorgarn mentioned in a letter some of those who donated to the orphanage fund a lack of sleep by residents of the island. Greth here....well...you can see yourself....he's not sleeping either." Speaking to Landrai, Jaysehn asks, "Any trouble with sleep in your abode?" Landrai softly says, "I always have issue sleeping." Jaysehn smiles. Jaysehn says, "That was Akenna's answer too." Speaking to Jaysehn, you ask, "Are you?" Jaysehn looks over at you and shakes his head. Jaysehn says, "None." Landrai softly says, "I only sleep well when Talinvor is home." You quietly whisper to Jaysehn, "Are we waiting for Akenna?" Jaysehn whispers, "I'm going to see if she's coming...Phalyn is here." You agree with Jaysehn.
Dreams and the Monster
Jaysehn says, "So....there seems to be some concern in the town about an odd coincidence affecting the locals." Guarrin flashes a wide grin at Alosaka. Darcena peers quizzically at Jaysehn. Speaking curiously to Jaysehn, Kalyrra asks, "Why would donating to the fund affect one's sleep? Or am I misunderstanding?" Ordim narrows his eyes. Delindra cocks her head. Speaking to Kalyrra, Ordim suggests, "Concern about where the money is going!" Jaysehn nods at Kalyrra. Ordim nods enthusiastically at Kalyrra! Kalyrra stares at Ordim. Ordim folds his arms across his chest and with a shrug, grins deviously. He must be up to something! Jaysehn says, "I thought it an odd response from Jorgarn too...but several people have reported a response to their personal donations in which he thanks them by letter...and then hopes they are sleeping well, as no one here on the island is." Jaysehn says, "For those who don't know...Jorgarn is the local constable." Jaysehn smiles at Akenna. Jisandra furrows her brow. Speaking to Jaysehn, Jisandra murmurs, "That is most unusual indeed." Speaking to Jaysehn, Vaemyr says, "Oh could you go more into about the sleeping trouble? I can't say I had heard about that." Jaysehn says, "Gladly." Jaysehn says, "I didn't think very much of it at first.....but the other night a small child wandered into this bar while a few of us were resting." Alosaka raises an eyebrow in Jaysehn's direction. Jaysehn says, "He complained of a lack of sleep...and monsters." Jaysehn glances at Greth. Vaemyr ponders. Speaking to Jaysehn, Yardie says, "The lack of sleep seems to be a thing going around." Furrowing his brow in thought, Guarrin strokes absently at his greased neatly trimmed, full beard. Speaking to Jaysehn, Alosaka asks, "Any child we know?" Jaysehn says, "Greth here was comforting the lad...." Ordim shifts his weight. You nod encouragingly at Jaysehn. Yukito collects a slim burgundy leather journal from a large compartment inside the amaranth kit. Speaking to Alosaka, Jaysehn says, "A....young boy. He lost his mother to the krolvin. She was militia." Speaking to Akenna, Jaysehn asks, "Do you remember his name?" Akenna says, "Morlid is his name." Jaysehn asks, "Mordlin?" Yukito put a slim burgundy leather journal on a cask-faced white oak bar. Jaysehn nods. Yukito carefully removes his ivory feather quill from behind his ear. Jaysehn says, "Morlid. That's it." Alosaka says, "Mm, I haven't had anyone like that in any of my classes." Akenna says, "He's going to be a magician." Akenna appears to be struggling to keep a straight face. Guarrin furrows his brow. Speaking to Jaysehn, Vaemyr asks, "I mean with what he had been through nightmares don't sound all that surprising, but you say this is affecting a lot of people?" Jaysehn says, "At first...we were ready to dismiss it as a young child's dream....Akenna here gave him a spent gold wand." Ordim glances at Akenna. Yardie says, "You're freaking me out." Akenna wrinkles her nose. Jaysehn says, "We were just describing a situation that developed here a few nights ago." Evii nods appreciatively. Speaking to Jaysehn, Evii says, "Don't let me stop you." You slowly and deliberately empty your filled lungs. You think to yourself, "No, one seems concerned" Jaysehn says, "The boy described the monster he was dreaminmg of....or claimed to be dreaming of. A creature that lurked outside its window. With a fat, bulbous face, and a single slit eye." Darcena looks thoughtfully at Jaysehn. Darcena says, "Interesting." Jaysehn nods at Darcena. Kalyrra blinks at Jaysehn. Jaysehn says, "And...this is of note...." Alosaka furrows his brow. Guarrin raises an eyebrow. Jaysehn says, "The boy claimed he only had the nightmares when the storms were here." Darcena asks, "Is everyone dreaming of this same creature?" You say, "No, different things it seems." Alosaka doubtfully says, "Storms are known to inspire fear in children." Jaysehn says, "We thought it just a dream....but..." Speaking to Darcena, you offer, "Perhaps what is MOST terrifying to them?" Darcena nods slowly at Alosaka. Jaysehn glances at Akenna. Akenna says, "We saw it." Akenna says, "We think.." Jaysehn nods. Akenna shifts her weight. Jaysehn says, "We think." Darcena blinks at Akenna. Ordim raises an eyebrow. Jaysehn says, "Kayse was here as well." You confirm, "Yes, we all did." Jaysehn glances at you. Darcena suspiciously asks, "Did you smell it?" Guarrin raises an eyebrow in your direction. Darcena asks, "Or was it an illusion?" Ordim giggles. Alosaka asks, "Was there a storm?" Jaysehn says, "No....we chased it. And yes...there was." Akenna says, "It was too far away, I couldn't catch a scent." Ordim asks, "Everyone afraid of the dark all of a sudden?" Ordim giggles. Darcena nods slowly at Akenna. Guarrin begins chuckling at Ordim! Jisandra cocks her head. Darcena asks, "Was there anything else unusual about this creature? Was it threatening?" Darcena doubtfully says, "We were worried about the Iyo at first and thought they were a threat." Darcena murmurs, "This Isle is strange." Jaysehn says, "It fled through the town...the shape matched the boy's description....and then it leapt into the western harbor and swam away into the storm." You report, "It was bulbous and awkward and not graceful." Akenna says, "No it was just... mishapen and...flying." Evii nods thoughtfully. Alosaka asks, "Possibly a prank? Some island youth with a mask?" Arenglae gives a sidelong glance at Alosaka. Ordim glances sharply at Darcena. Vaemyr nods at Darcena. From outside, the rumble of thunder can be heard. Jaysehn glances up. * Alosaka says, "Oh, flying. Well." Speaking to Darcena, Vaemyr says, "That's a good thing to note." Speaking to Akenna, you add, "And it swam, no?" Akenna nods at Jaysehn. Darcena nods. Speaking to Akenna, Yardie asks, "When did you find this out?" Akenna nods to you. Ordim blinks. Guarrin furrows his brow. Vaemyr says, "Seems a bit stormy tonight too huh." Speaking to Yardie, Akenna says, "A few nights ago." Evii frowns. Akenna says, "When it was storming." Jaysehn says, "We asked at the fountain and the commons...." You state, "We saw it. All three of us. Restday, I believe." Jaysehn says, "See if anyone had seen or heard anything." Jaysehn says, "But no one did." Jaysehn says, "Or...at least...no one responded." Jisandra furrows her brow. Speaking to Akenna, Yardie says, "I was going to mention that. I told you the rain is a problem."
Delegating Tasks
Darcena says, "Perhaps someone could interview some of the residents and see if there -are- any threads of commonality between the dreams." Darcena says, "Or even between the dreamers." Darcena ponders. Speaking to Darcena, you say, "This is what I suggested." You nod enthusiastically at Darcena! Speaking to Darcena, Jaysehn says, "Good...you get Greth." Jaysehn points at Greth. Darcena says, "Ah, no. I am not doing any work." Darcena says, "My plate is full." Jaysehn says, "Well. I'm not getting growled at." Speaking to Jaysehn, you offer, "I can ask questions, it is what I do." Darcena amusedly says, "I am certain that Greth will not growl at anyone." Darcena steadily warns, "And if he does, I can certainly be called in to growl right back." Evii giggles softly at Darcena. Alosaka says, "I have collected stories before, in the Landing. I will be happy to do so again here." You reason, "But we should tell them all to write these visions or dreams down." Darcena mutters, "Wouldn't be the first time I've had to browbeat him to be sensible." Darcena folds her arms over her chest. Kiyna says, "I wouldn't mind bandying words with locals. That I could do." Jaysehn nods at Alosaka. Cryheart grins at Darcena. Jaysehn nods at Kiyna. Darcena nods slowly at Alosaka. Darcena asks, "Perhaps you two could work together?" Darcena glances between Kiyna and Alosaka. You furrow your brow, probably adding a wrinkle or two in the process. Akenna says, "I would just be careful, some people find their dreams to be...personal." Speaking to you, Darcena asks, "And perhaps you?" Darcena cocks her head. Kiyna nods. Alosaka nods respectfully. Darcena asks, "I wonder... Do we have an artist here?" Darcena asks, "Someone who sketches?" Darcena casually glances around the room. Darcena asks, "Or paints?" Speaking to Jaysehn, Vaemyr says, "I might try and track down one of the people who've seen these nightmares, If they are magical in nature I might can recognize some of the side effects." You shift your weight. Speaking to Darcena, Alosaka says, "Poorly." Obelin sheepishly admits, "There do seem to be some sketchy characters." Delindra ponders. Speaking to Vaemyr, Jaysehn says, "The boy has a father still." Speaking amusedly to Alosaka, Darcena says, "I'd prefer someone who does so well." You remove a thin cloth-bound notebook from in your oval vanity case. Vaemyr nods at Jaysehn. You carefully open your cloth-bound notebook, revealing the smooth pages of vellum within. Speaking to Vaemyr, Jaysehn says, "He might be good to try to track down. Didn't get a name though." Alosaka grins. You turn to the next page of your notebook. You're now on page 3. Darcena says, "Someone who could work with Kayse, Akenna, and Jaysehn to create a sketch or painting of the creature they saw." The page, written in Common, reads as follows: Large brush strokes create floors of dark brown checkered marble that stretch along the expansive chamber. Shaded browns and blacks create walls of polished earth that rise up to encompass the area in earthen solitude. Russet and orange palletes blend to make stone constructs, a mix of clay and stone, stand like silent sentries along the cavern. The center of the room is spacious, but the outer walls are cluttered with dozens of crates, boxes and blocks of granite. Suspending from the ceiling are rows of crystal-like spheres that are painted an aqua blue. To the corner of the painting, a large crystalline coffin sits along a sturdy stone workbench and a huge black stone dais. Kiyna says, "I've a particular kinship with the urchins and the homeless. Got a lot in common. I could start there." Darcena looks thoughtfully at you. Speaking to Kiyna, Jaysehn says, "I can show you where we have the orphans housed." Speaking to Darcena, Jisandra murmurs, "That is a good idea." Ordim nervously giggles. You show Darcena your cloth-bound notebook. Kiyna nods at Jaysehn. Speaking to you, Darcena says, "That is ... well. Striking for all the reasons you are aware of. But also nicely done." Yukito signals, "I'm having a hard time following.. so.. there is an actual creature causing bad dreams of some kind... associated with the storms in some way? In a nutshell?" Speaking to you, Darcena asks, "Would you create a sketch for us?" Jisandra adopts an agreeable expression. You hesitantly say, "I am unsure what we saw.... it is not like anything I've seen before." Arenglae signals, "Mass hysteria, more like." Darcena says, "Perhaps if you talk it over with someone else here, they might be able to help you recollect." Darcena shrugs slightly. Akenna says, "It was unusual, for certain...rather bulbus." Ordim signals, "Perhaps, I think I've picked up that the town is having bad dreams. In talking to some of hte dreamers, the militia got themselves all excited and started seeing monsters in the dark." Speaking to Darcena, you say, "I might need to see it again, which is asking a lot." You chuckle. Darcena nods slowly to you.
Involving the Arkati
Darcena mutters, "We should find someone who has a close affinity with Ronan too, to be part of the dream-asking." Speaking to Darcena, Yardie says, "Isn't Jaysehn." Speaking to Darcena, Jaysehn says, "That would be excellent...I know no one. And I've been searching." Darcena says, "Ah, Regwen is one I know of." Darcena nods at Jaysehn. Jaysehn asks, "Oh?" Speaking to you, Arenglae says, "Yours." Jaysehn nods at Darcena. You suggest, "Luxelle, Katiesa, Falvicar..." You nod faintly at Arenglae. Darcena says, "Oh yes, Kateisa and Falvicar as well." Alosaka says, "Or perhaps of Sheru, considering these are nightmares." Yukito laconically comments, "Hmm." Yukito signals, "I see." Yardie glances at Alosaka. Speaking to Alosaka, Darcena says, "That is a good observation, too." Jaysehn frowns at Alosaka. Speaking to Darcena, Guarrin mentions, "I have worked with the dreamwalkers before." Jaysehn slowly empties his lungs. Akenna worriedly says, "I'd rather deal with Ronan." You say, "There is a halfing in Wehnimer's who is that of Shreu." You agree with Akenna. Speaking to Yardie, Darcena says, "I am more thinking of other people whose expertise we can also tap into." Speaking to Alosaka, Jaysehn says, "Its a ...fair point." Darcena smiles at Yardie. Jaysehn nods at Guarrin. Speaking to Guarrin, Darcena asks, "Oh?" Darcena nods slowly at Guarrin. Darcena says, "I had forgotten." Speaking to Guarrin, Jaysehn says, "That's...of course." Jaysehn nods at Darcena. Ordim signals, "I suspect the hysteria, as mentioned before. The town is always quick to assume the worst and make a mountain out of nothing." Speaking to Darcena, Guarrin adds, "I would prefer not doing so again." Speaking to Darcena, Yardie says, "That's always a good thing. I'm not certain about Sheru, though." Guarrin says, "But, if no one else is able." Guarrin looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs. Vaemyr signals, "From what I followed, there are reports of nightmares, they met a boy who had seen this one-eyed bulbous monster, Jaysehn and a few others saw something resembling that a few nights ago in a storm." Speaking carefully to Guarrin, Darcena says, "It is wise that you know your limits, Guarrin." Talinvor signals, "That is always the case. And will drag unrelated incidents looking for meaning." Jaysehn says, "An expert on dreams....Ronanite or otherwise...would be a good idea." Darcena says, "Perhaps you can be of use in another way." Ordim signals, "Still, better they chase shadows and their own tails than get involved in the real dealings." Jisandra nods at Jaysehn. Jisandra ponders. Darcena furrows her brow. Alosaka says, "The masters of dreams are jealous of their domains. Be certain you beseech the correct master, or things may go astray." You cautiously say, "I think some people are cautious of working with some of the Ronites. From...past experiences." Guarrin says, "I was going to ask if there was a shrine to niima here." Evii quietly offers, "I'll keep my ears open around the Inn, see if the other waitresses have heard anyone talking about anything strange over dinner." Speaking slowly to Guarrin, Darcena says, "I know Akenna was mentioning some labor earlier." Speaking playfully to Guarrin, Darcena teases, "And you are Muscles." Speaking to you, Jaysehn says, "Those are...fair cautions to hold." Speaking curiously to Ordim, Talinvor asks, "Did others have dreams?" Darcena appears to be struggling to keep a straight face as she glances at Guarrin. Ordim signals, "This monster scare could be used to good effect to keep them away from the jungle and other holdings." Guarrin begins chuckling at Darcena! Speaking to you, Yardie says, "Now you tell me." Yukito signals, "The commonality is interesting. Especially if they had not spoken to each other before describing it." Akenna asks, "Ronan knows and battles the horrors of the night, who better to call on?" Speaking to Darcena, Guarrin says, "I can gladly do some work." Darcena nods in agreement at Evii. Talinvor signals, "I thought just you and I did, Ordim. Or at least.. maybe you?" Evii nods appreciatively at Akenna. You agree with Akenna. Vaemyr signals, "Anymore than that is pure conjecture, but I think at least worth investigating, we sorcerers have a reasonable affinity with curses and nightmare-like magic so I might can recognize if that type of spell is affecting townsfolk." Jisandra agrees with Akenna. Speaking to Talinvor, Ordim says, "Apparently I was the only one that dreamed of getting lost in the dessert. Not sure what everyone else is dreaming of." Ordim giggles. Delindra nods at Akenna. Speaking to Evii, Darcena says, "You are so warm and disarming, that I'm sure someone may wish to speak with you." Arenglae signals, "I do not intend to get involved with the dealings on this Island. It does not concern me or mine." Yukito signals, "Speaking cynically, I would be surprised if Ronan had anything to do with it. Shocked, really." Ordim signals, "I don't think the others are dreaming of having forced mind control extracted from their heads by caves and the ghost of Selbi." Speaking to Ordim, Delindra says, "It does sound like it was a good problem to have. You could always eat your way through the dessert." Delindra flashes a wide grin. Jaysehn says, "The storms ...and the sleeping troubles worry me." Speaking to Guarrin, you say, "I suppose a patron of Lumnis could always be an option as well. Considering it is still affairs of the mind." Vaemyr agrees with Yukito. Speaking to Delindra, Ordim says, "I tried for a good first few hours, then my tummy hurt." Jaysehn says, "I hope it is not the Eel's influence." Ordim's cheeks take on a slightly flushed tone. Ordim hangs his head. (Talinvor rubs his fingers against his right temple, his lips curling into a slight frown.) Jisandra furrows her brow. Akenna says, "There is always Rohese." Jisandra asks, ";worried More storms?" Speaking to Guarrin, Darcena says, "I like your thought regarding Niima as well. She's certainly more approachable than Charl." You nod at Akenna. Darcena gazes in amusement at Guarrin. Speaking to Akenna, Yardie asks, "Rohese?" Speaking to Jaysehn, Guarrin says, "Another concern. I was hoping niima might keep such things away." Yukito signals, "Understandable. Still. It is appreciated that you keep abreast of events, Arenglae. Thank you, Sister." Jaysehn nods at Guarrin. Guarrin grumbles at Darcena. Speaking to Darcena, Guarrin mutters, "Understatement." Speaking to Guarrin, Jaysehn says, "As did I...but....something is interfereing with her hold on the island." Speaking to Yardie, Akenna says, "Yes.. I believe Lumnis is whom she is aligned with as well." Speaking to Guarrin, Jaysehn says, "We had a ritual go awry in her shrine last week." Ordim signals, "And should your position change, there is plenty of the island to be split up between those that walk in the light." Evii raises an eyebrow in Jaysehn's direction. Jisandra blinks. Guarrin raises an eyebrow in Jaysehn's direction. Alosaka raises an eyebrow in Jaysehn's direction. Akenna furrows her brow. Speaking worriedly to Jaysehn, Evii says, "That doesn't sound good." Speaking to Jaysehn, Guarrin asks, "Truly? To Niima? How?" Lyracellan agrees with Evii. Alosaka says, "This is why I prefer to leave the gods alone."
